  1. Yawn. Another Single A game in Chattanooga. Chattanooga is becoming the king of Single A teams. Not in quality, but in numbers.
  2. It's great to see more schools with bowling team. Way to go, Signal Mountain. It is odd, however, that their coach is from Red Bank. Red Bank has no bowling team.
  3. WOW! It looks like a college campus.
  4. Kudos Juan, you nailed both of them. Chattanoogan.com.
  5. Congrats to Coach Hensley. Never said he wasn't a good coach, he is, just said I didn't care for him on the baseball field.
  6. OK, I'll try and take these one at a time. Yes, I do understand that I am a nobody in the Chattanooga baseball area. Nah, not really interested in being anybody in particular. Just kind of your average old man, I guess. Nope, no life. And, yes I do continue to strive for average. Why not? Am I not allowed to offer an opinion about a coach? As an assistant coach, I found him to be a jerk. And as far as my perfomance goes, I guess I'll just say Coach Pharr thought I did okay during his Sectional game this year at Farragut. I think I'll just go on what my assigner believes. Nope, not crazy about him either. Umpiring has nothing to do with liking the coaches or not anyway. And if you think anyone umpires or officiates for the money, you're insane. But take heart, umpiring has lost much of its allure to me anyway. It's becoming way too expensive with the price of gas, time away from your regular job, etc. to make it make sense anymore. LOL, and how hard would it be to replace someone as bad as me anyway.
  7. The Weekleys used to coach UT-Chattanooga and it was the Grand Reopening of Warner Park.
  8. If I were you, I would contact all your area minor league teams, Jr. colleges and colleges to see if they are going to be purchasing a new one in the near future and see if you can either buy their old one or if they would like to donate it to your program. At least, that's what we did.
  9. Good for Farragut, I guess.
  10. I hope you're wrong. I don't know Mulder, but I can't stand Hensley. MVM, it sounds like Tyner needs to be rebuilt or something or at least updated. If memory serves me, Tyner can accomodate about twice the students it currently has. And Indian is right, the new East Hamilton HS would not be large enough and I don't think students close to the VW plant near Ooltewah would be zoned there anyway. All in all, it's probably a good problem to have, I guess.
  11. I don't know. I spoke with Steve at Ridgeland during their tournament which I was working. Steve was coaching his summer team, the Chattanooga Baseball Club and we spoke at length, primarily about the Ooltewah job. He laughed at the speculation that he might go to Ooltewah, but did not indicate in any way that he was thinking about doing what he did. I would almost bet that his replacement is already in the program at Soddy Daisy. What ever happened to Greg Vandergriff? I know he was very interested in coaching a few years ago.
  12. They do, Les Hegwood, he is an English teacher and coaches Cross Country, also.
  13. I don't follow your connection between what happened at Hixson with Coach Eller and Steve leaving Soddy Daisy. Anyway, we now have Grace, CSAS, Notre Dame, Hixson, Sequatchie County and now Soddy Daisy without head baseball coaches (and some may have been filled, I just haven't heard). I just find the recent events involving coaches leaving to be somewhat troubling. With a bunch of new coaches next year, it will certainly be an interesting year umpiring in 2009.
  14. Steve Garland resigns at Soddy DaisyChatt. Times-Free Press. What's going on? Garland interview.
  15. Hixson and Sequatchie Co. coaches resign What's going on? Ooltewah was vacant, now CSAS, Hixson and Sequatchie County all need coaches.
  16. LOL, yeah, I love to work with people that have a chip on their shoulder all the time. Proving yourself and having a bad attitude and being hard to work with are entirely different things. Best of luck to Brian.
  17. I don't know, I think it was more of a timing and logic thing than anything else. A position became available at a school that had an opening and had a FIELD! Remember, Hitchcox didn't even have a field at Notre Dame. And to imply that he left ND because he had very little returning does not speak well of him at all if it is true. What will he do if Ooltewah graduates a bunch, leave? It's a good move for him. Personally, I don't really like him. He seems to have a chip on his shoulder all the time, but time will tell. Now, who goes to Notre Dame?
  18. I don't think an attempt was made to throw you into the CRAZY PARENT category. My post was only advice to any parent with a 6 year old wanting to start concentrating on only 1 sport. I have seen many, many kids get burnt out on starting playing this young and was only offering advice from my experiences. However, all that being said, even if your 6 year old wants to play baseball primarily, sometimes you just have to be his parent, not his friend and say NO. I'm old now, but I started playing when I was 12, played through HS, Jr. college and then college. I was absolutely SICK of baseball in my senior year of college. Best of luck and remember YMMV.
  19. Agreed, he can do his own parenting. 6 is WAY too young for organized, travel baseball, softball, soccer, etc.
  20. I second that. 6 or 7 years old is way, way too young to being even thinking about travel baseball. My goodness, this is actually kind of scary.
  21. And who might that be? I heard the only teaching position available or open was in Math. There's not a lot of HS baseball coaches that teach Math. Oh, and it ain't going to be Garland. I spoke with him at Ridgeland during their tournament and he just laughed. So, who is it gonna be?

    Kat

Congrats to Kat. It seems like she should have gotten this award last year. Wasn't she hurt in the first or second week of the season this year? How can she receive this award for this year?
