  1. So what was your point in Pitts if he didn't take them to State? You proved no point at all, just that coaches are good or not, and it is not because of WHERE they coach. Again I say good luck to ALL East TN teams in the State.......
  2. I took the liberty to read some posts by Bearden fans and then went back and did some research. Here's what I found: Bearden fans are not scared to speak first about winning and later seeing how hard it is, as in: 03-04 - went 26-8 losing in the Regionals 04-05 - went 19-9 losing in the Regionals 05-06 - went 32-5 losing in the State 06-07 - went 22-10 losing in the Regionals 07-08 - went 30-4 losing in the Sectionals (Sub-State) 08-09 - currently 33-2, season yet to be finalized...... Analysis: Since the 03-04 season, Bearden has boasted a record of 162-38 while making the Regionals each year, the Sectionals (Sub-State) twice, and the State once. This is their best chance to win the Gold Ball, and I will cheer all East TN teams to win. Just remember.....it is yet to be written how this story ends.
  3. FYI....so did Carey Daniels! Your point being?
  4. Where is Bearden ranked nationally? In 1990, Science Hill went 37-1, winning the State Title, & only losing to Oak Hill that year (should have won that game too). They finished ranked #2 behind #1 Oak Hill. I'm not sure but the way some Bearden fans brag on here, we all would know if Bearden was ranked anywhere near the top 10. /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />
  5. Yes Rebel....you guys do take it seriously, and congrats on your recent success. But when you have a 24 court like Memphis does in different areas of Maryville, let me know and I will change my stance. When I coached AAU, I made it a point to take my team at 3am to these courts and show them the seriousness that these kids play with. /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" /> Who's hungrier for the Golden Ball? We'll see soon!!!!!
  6. Jumpshot... I never need a weak excuse to get my point across. Don't assume! Because I never said what YOU are trying to take out of my post. If you took the time to read other posts that I have stated about Memphis, you would know that I have witnessed from both sides year in and out that Inner City Memphis does put more of an emphasis on Basketball than East TN. Why do you think it is a hotbed for the sport and many recruiting officials go there on a weekly basis? I have also stated that Memphis has 24 hour courts in the summers, something that East TN doesn't. Everyone has the same chance to rise above their circumstances and I would never give a kid an outlet that easy to claim ignorance or immorality. I'm a stats and facts guy, so you can do the math on the crime part of your rebuttal. I will say this though......take a survey of high school kids and ask them what they do on the weekends, and I will almost guarantee you that the higher percentage of kids in Memphis will say they play basketball vs. kids from the Eastern Hills. There are no wrongs or rights in this situation. Just pointing out differences.....as stated in my previous point. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
  7. You never earn the right to talk down to anyone. And winners don't have to talk, their game does it for them. A bragger will always end up lonely. Just ask T.O., Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, and the likes there-of. There was one kid who played on my AAU teams years ago that I will not name due to being a kid then, but he was probably the most talented PG to ever grace the hardwood in the state of TN. His attitude and the fact that he couldn't keep his mouth shut caused him to be isolated. He helped Science Hill win two State Titles and thought his you-know-what didn't stink, until adulthood smacked him in the face and found out that after those cubic walls of high school, noone gives a care what you did in the past. They say 1 is the loneliest number that you have, and that is true when you walk the walk and have stink in your talk. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
  8. Bearden has had a great season so far this year and will most likely make it to State unless a severe lapse of focus on their part. But to say that Bearden is hands down the best team ever from some of these posters is mind blowing. There have been many over the years that garner attention like Bearden, and Bearden must win it FIRST to be considered just one of the great teams of all time. People are quick to forget White Station's loaded team from top to bottom for a few years. I know the western fans don't give East TN any respect when it comes to basketball, but Science Hill went on a tear in the early 90s. In 1990, they went 37-1, in 1994 they went 37-2, and 1995 they went 37-3 while winning state championships all those years. In 1991, they went 34-2 and lost in the State Cahmpionship game by one point (55-54). Pitts rotated five in and out. It didn't matter who was on the floor, the Hilltoppers took care of business each and EVERY night. Going 74-3 in their back to back State Titles and blowing out their opponents (79-62 in 94 & 77-56 in 95) is worthy to be called one of the greatest teams ever. Where Bearden will stack up, don't know yet. Their final chapter to the story hasn't been written yet. GOD Bless!!!! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  9. COngrats to Science Hill on their Regional Championship. They avoided the buzz saw in Bearden that beat the brakes off Oak Ridge 93-43 if the coacht board is correct!!! /ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" /> The brackets for these teams are as follows: Oak Ridge at Science Hill Morristown East at Knox Bearden
  10. For years, many have said it is over for DB as far as talent goes. DB has a large pool to draw from with the diversity at the school. They will reload again, but it may take a little bit longer this time around. MAybe not...we'll see.... /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />
  11. To TN High, more specifically CAPPY.......it's been a pleasure swapping intellects and what have you's. This is round two (boys) and the last for you my friend. I hope that you will continue to frequent these boards in the future. If you are serious about AAU next year, look me up. GOD Bless you & yours!!!!!
  12. sorry didn't get to you sooner. I meant they have a web streamer... Congrats to Morritown and Da Hill!!!!!!!
  13. This thread is a dead issue. You have fans and refs that will always be on other sides of the fence. Why? Because fans cannot understand that, for the most part, refs come to do a job and go home. They take time, not a profession at this level, out of their busy lives to help our youth and do something they like, or love, to do. There are a FEW refs that, given the right team or circumstance, will cheat. Most of the time it is because a coach and that ref don't like each other. Other times it can be that ref went to school at one of the teams playing. There are many avenues that may alter their calling, but by in large, refs do a good job. Everyone makes mistakes. Take your vehicle for instance. Some vehicles are lemons off the lot. My wife's dad worked for GM in Detroit, and he said to never buy a vehicle that was made on Mondays or Fridays. Most of the lemons came from those days. The first two or three letters tell which day your vehicle was made. Anyway....my point being that everyone will make mistakes in whatever job they do. Fans make the mistake of going to games, thinking that if they really get on the ref or opposing team that it will help their team to victory. That is the furthest from the truth and will do the exact opposite!!! Refs are human and have emotions too. Evoke the wrong emotions and you're asking your team to have to play twice as hard to win, just because you've been a jerk at the games. Just enjoy the games and let the players, coaches, and refs decide the outcome. GOD Bless!!! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  14. WXSM should carry the TN HIGH game, and 1400 WKPT and 92.5 WHCB should carry the DB/Hill game.
  15. DB +16 TN High +12 DB should show up to play their best basketball of the year. If not, it will be the other way (-16) and players will have to watch the game in their own house....
  16. Excuse me WACO, "Eastern TN" Powerhouse teams....
  17. Sad to say but one of these two Eastern Powerhouse teams will be trading in sneakers for cleats tonight. And for some, it will be their last game as a high-schooler. I remember my Senior year, we were put out in the semis of the Regionals by Marty Story and Greeneville. It was a bitter loss, because we didn't show up to play and got beat by the most points (19) ever on a team I played on. Those last two minutes were like an eternity sitting on the bench when Buck gave some younger players some experience. That game will always stick in my mind, because we were supposed to go state that year but got beat by Science Hill in the Championship of the Districts that paired us with Greeneville. The same situation here with DB & Science Hill the two powerhouses. TN High should represent the Big Nine with a win tonight. GOOD Luck to all, play hard like it's your last game (it could be!!!), and above all else, HAVE SOME FUN!!!! GOD Bless!!!! /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" /> Who's hungrier? We'll find out......
  18. I'm glad this is a forum where people's identities are hidden. After some of the responses from so-called Longhorn Fans, I know that Austin would be embarassed to call these people fans of J.C. Some of the things that have been said on here are absolutely insensitive. You must realize that you are talking about KIDS!!! Atwood would never condone what is being said by frauds claiming to be fans of his team. I have known the coaching staff for years, have hung out with them, and have listened to Atwood give our team a pep talk before the Regional game a few years back. If you are a TRUE Longhorn fan, then you should think about who you represent and how your attitude will come off to others, because you are, whether you like it or not, a reflection of Atwoods, the Johnson County community, and the school. To fans other than Johnson County, Longhorn07 does not represent the team, coaching staff, or community at large. He, or she, is just crying out for attention and getting it the wrong way (at the expense of KIDS, tarnishing a great program, and great community). The best thing to do is to ignore and not respond to his an others who speak from the wrong end of their opening. GOD Bless!!!!
  19. Buck was NEVER "officially" fired!!! /mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad.gif" /> He was told that the upcoming season would be his last. He was being forced into retirement. The summer before his last season, Buck died. Do some research and find out who the VP was at "THAT" company and it will shockingly suprise you. You are talking about 19 years ago, so there is no more to this story. Buck's legend speaks for itself. He has always been in my eyes the BEST coach to ever walk the lines. I learned a lot from him and Pitts...... /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  20. I ate crow from saying it would be a blowout. South made a game of it but came upshort. Still doesn't take away from their success. My bad WACO....and just where have you been lately? /sleep.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="-_-" border="0" alt="sleep.gif" />
  21. Congrats to South for making me eat crow!!! You played one heck of a game and represented your school and the Big Nine proudly!!!! Way to turn your season around!!!!!
  22. I understand that, but when you have "THAT" company wanting the VP's son starting with the FAB four, then you have what happened. You don't have to buy a thing. I was there and know what went on. And Buck was loved by all, and should have had the Dome named after him. That doesn't stop progress and what some people wanted. Buck will always be one of the best coaches to ever coach this game. I remember when he was chosen to be Assistant Coach for the US Men's Olympic Festival in 1987 with Head Coach "Lefty" Dreisel and other Assistant Coach John Kreese. There are so many memories that I have with him that some would have you in the floor laughing so hard! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> I also remember the summer of my freshman year, I started with the first squad and Buck was disciplining me for making a mistake. At that time I was real young and didn't want to hear it. The head of College Officials took me to the side and told me that I should listen t EVERYTHING that Buck had to say cause as far as he was concerned, Buck was the best coach ever! That stays with me to this day. That's how much he was respected in the Country!!! Anyway...getting off on a tangent........ /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
  23. Did you read my post? I said he was being forced out. I know because I played for VanHuss and still was around a lot when Ryan Black and all the others were freshmen. After Ryan's freshman year, the staff told Buck that the following year would be his last. Politics played a major roll in that. If you can think back that far, guess who was VP of "THAT" company then. After Buck died, "THAT" company all of a sudden hosted the Thanksgiving tourney at DB again. The Arby's was too big for DB to bring back the Christmas tourney, so they held it during Thanksgiving weekend.
  24. I 1/2 agree with that TCSF.......Science Hill will blow out Morristown and South will get blown out early for both games. Neither lower seed team matches up well with the higher. I hope to be wrong about South, but their match-ups don't favor them. I would love to eat CROW on the South game. /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" /> Prove me wrong boys!!!!!! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  25. I'm sure we can work out something. I'll make you an offer "you can't refuse!" /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
