  1. Skunk.... I haven't been on CoachT in two years almost. I just wanted to say thanks for the kind words that I saw for the first time. You thought of me when my dad died, and that means a lot to me. Are you on Facebook? I'm there a lot. Please keep in touch. My email is Stokomo@live.com

  2. I wish the new coach and the falcon faithful good luck in the future. I have been in and out of the loop the past few years. I heard the new coach is from Florida. Is that correct.
  3. I had to wait and see what all the hoopla was before I made a comment, because a wise man once told me to not speak unless I knew what I was talking about. I don't know yankee and from his anxious posts criticizing someone who definitely isn't the real Coach Ian Morrison I actually played for in the 8th grade at John Sevier Middle School, could help him ease his anxiety a bit. The resume of Coach Morrison is quite impressive but the screen name you are barking at yankee ain't it. It may be a mythical name that someone uses to garner attention and it got you flustered. Coach Morrison helped mold this "fine young man" you see replying to this useless thread. You talk about dedication to the game.....we couldn't start practice until HE made 100 straight free-throws, and let me say that we never had to stay late. Anway.....this thread mostly was about Coach Whittemore and some having views of hatred still. Some will ALWAYS think what they want to believe about his coaching style and said "intentional" ruff-play. I had the pleasure to room and play on the same team at King College, had coached 13 years AAU before I started coaching with Todd at Volunteer for five years. Todd has always had love and passion for the game, more than a lot of coaches around here. It's true that he is a coach 1st but he loves kids and would give ANY kid the shirt off his back. I witnessed Todd take in several young men...feeding and clothing them.... One of the managers for our team didn't have the fortune of a family with good finances, so Todd took him under his wing for four years and it was this young man's dream to play in a game. Todd made that dream come true his Senior year and he actually scored 4 points that night. His passion and drive can look like intimidation and cockiness to some, but you don't know Whitt as well as the one's closest to him. He will also tell you that we did not see eye-to-eye on a lot of things and philosophies of coaching (he's a post and I'm a point guard) but one thing this man isn't is a dirty coach. The people who know me and who coached me like Ian Morrison and Buck VanHuss, will tell you that I will not defend or stay in a program that teaches dirty play. My exit from coaching was due to my job situation, being promoted to an I.T. Specialist and traveling a lot doesn't give the time needed to help coach young men. I'm not hear to toot anyone's horn, but I do know the game and how chemistry, flow, leadership, and most of all....fundamentals are key elements to building a championship caliber program. Whitt got the best out of his players, even when they didn't possess athletic skills needed to be competitive. I wish my friend only the best of what GOD has in store for him in the next chapter of his life. To all others that believe otherwise......believe what you will, but move on and support whoever the next coach will be at Volunteer...... If you can't do that, then find a program you can support and stop hating, it only rots you from the inside/out. GOD Bless!!!!!
  4. I will agree with you on that one WACO......and replying to the whole South thing, I spoke with a friend of mine that I played ball against in the 80's. He is an avid Science Hill fan that graduated from another Big 8 (Big 9) school. The KFC Chicken thing went way beyond what one would deem tasteless. Over the years, there have been numerous situations to where racial slurs, epithets, and what-have-yous rear its ugly head. Can anyone else remember two situations that involved South students vandalizing to the point of no return in the 80's? In 1986, the week of the DB vs. South football game saw South students spray paint a huge "S" on the front lawn of DB by the front of the VanHuss Dome. It wasn't the "S" that was bad but what accompanied it......underneath the red "S" was the "N" word in black spray paint. And in 1989, after DB thrashed South, they spray painted the "N" word and other slurs over Michael "Faulkerson" Dulaney's Murial in the back of the VanHuss Dome. It does dis-hearten me to see that we have not come that far from the 80's. One can only ignore ignorance such as those incidents. I have friends from South so I will say that one should take each case separately and make a judgment on the individual, but the AD should tighten ranks to try and avoid incidents like the KFC Bucket thing....
  5. This may be just what the Dr. ordered for DB. Although I wish it weren't against Maryville with such a rich tradition in winning and DB having to go to the Black Hole. But!!!! Stranger things have happened. DB has absolutely NO pressure in this game. With it being the #2 vs. #7 draw, I predict an upset!!! Remember this for your NCAA March Madness brackets..........DB 24, Maryville 20.........
  6. not looking good.... Fourth quarter score 26-8 in favor of Farragut. They look good in their West Coast formation. We look lathargic and not very focused tonight. This is a change fro mthe past opening games so hopefully, if these guys can get some intensity, the playoffs might turn out differently this year......
  7. WACOJACO=MJ the picture gave it away........
  8. Hello all! I am glad to be back in the swing, if not for a moment though. I've looked at Comp's remarks & plowboy's defense of him, and each person is entitled to their own opinion. Jimmy-The-Greek was fired from CBS for comments deemed racist in the 80's. He said that blacks were athletically superior because we were "bred" to be strong during slavery. He was WAY wrong if you know about science and the human body. A little free education......Genetics, in the form of having a higher proportion of "fast-twitch" fibres and more testosterone than whites, may predispose a black individual to run fast. But biology alone does not make champions. As well as graft, focus and a winning mindset, the forces which combine to set those fast-twitch fibres twitching in the direction of the school's sport cannot be underestimated. Over the years, most whites came from the upper northern parts of the world, colder climates yet good enough for vegetation to grow food. Africa is mostly a dessert-land in which Africans have to hunt and chase for food. You see, Jimmy-The-Greek was right as well as being so wrong in his assessment. It wasn't slavery, but a climatical difference in how our bodies are made. There are exceptions to every rule, but there are truths to what has been said. And don't think school recruits don't know this when it comes to filling a position for their team.
  9. Do I have a story for you sometime. Maybe I can talk to your son and provide some personal life situations of my own. I went through the same thing your son is going through. The one thing ALL kids need to understand is that if it was meant to be, it will be no matter the situation, but YOU can NEVER hold back your future for the sake of another no matter how much you THINK you love them or vice-versa....... It's funny that you have Mr. Jennings helping out. Turns out that Les Robinson was recruiting me for ETSU and I declined, choosing King College instead and the rest is history with Mr. Jennings going to ETSU that year. ETSU was a door mat so I thought at the time. If I had a crystal ball to show me what was in store from 87-91......lol /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  10. Baseball season, baseball thread, and still the same ole putdowns. Please tell me you're not an adult???!!! Sometimes you have to grow up and leave the nest. Stop sitting in your mom's basement and googling Nick-At-Nite reruns. Or better yet.....do something great yourself so you don't have to put others down hiding behind a screen name.......
  11. My GOD!!! The dead has arisen!!!! Where you been my friend? I thought I was going to put an APB out for you...... /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" /> So are you into the summer circuit yet? Hope all is well with you & yours..... GOD BLESS!!!!
  12. This has gotten way off topic now. I'll have to start a new thread and call it "Bashers' 'Corner" and let you guys duke-it-out!!!
  13. I didn't see where anyone has rated him. I must be missing something here. Where is the rating scale that you speak of? He is a coach, coaching in the Eastern part of Tennessee, and qualified for state. He was selected to be an assistant coach to the Jordan Brand All-American Game April 18 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. I didn't know they had a rating scale before selecting an assistant coach. Maybe someone should've done a rating scale at your job before they hired you. Maybe an IQ test would have been a better choice in your case. I've seen too many people talk about a coach and their disabilities rather than their qualities. It is much easier to put down someone and makes you feel better about yourself. The plain truth is that each person, as yourself, that uses these tactics to talk against someone only does so because of their own short-comings. Feel free to talk about me as much as you like, because you do not sign my paycheck or evaluate me for a promotion. And if you were my boss, I would still say the same things to you if he thought as childish as you do now. Over-Rated vs. Under-Educated = One Heck of a Mess!!!!
  14. The system is good; it just was executed properly. I agree, at the end of the game, your best five MUST be in.
  15. Sorry but I have to reply to this statement. Science Hill won the state title with 4 Seniors, 3 Juniors, and the rest Sophs. There is no excuse for being a Senior or a Sophomore when playing on Varsity. Experience does play a part, but I started all four years at DB and handled the pressure. If you are competitive and have the drive, you don't care what classification a player is. Especially by your Sophomore year, you should know the system well enough to handle your own.
  16. Did anyone stop to think that maybe, just maybe, they got beat by a better team? Period! Everyone wants to give their two cents worth to why their team, or foe team, didn't win it all. Guess what? Only one team, every year, in each classification will take home the golden ball. Many items go into the success of a team. The program itself and their strategy, talent, FUNDAMENTALS, CHEMISTRY, and ATTITUDE!!!!! all make up a championship caliber team. Many teams have a good strategy and talent, but not many teams have the rest of the recipe to make a champion. I do agree with having your best five in the last quarter in a close ball game. The best five is what makes up all those ingredients. Many people go on talent, but that is wrong unless they also have the other attributes to be considered one of the best five. You can go five and five; it wears down the oponent while your guys are well rested, but you need to have a certain point in the fourth quarter where the best five THAT WORK TOGETHER are on the floor in critical times!!!!
  17. What difference does it make anyway? Some may agree or disagree with the 5 in 5 out method. But! THere are many ways to run a program, and to my knowledge, Pitts did it better than anybody and won three state titles in the process. So don't say it doesn't work, you just have to know if it can work for your program.
  18. It took you a whole month to reply to my message? I see you have been to punctuation class. Maybe next time we can use CAPITAL letters where they should go. Just messing with ya!!!! /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />
  19. How many times will someone say this? A true fan of the game of basketball will know that it takes much more than great talent to produce a winner. There must be team chemistry and I'm a firm believer in a true PG. The most important fact and ingredient needed is FUNDAMENTALS. You can have all the natural talent in the world that GOD has blessed you with, but if you don't have the fundamentals to go with it, you can be beat by a team with not much athletic skills but good, sound fundamentals. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" /> I have said this in the Big Nine thread that DB and all of East TN teams should take a week and go on a "western circuit". Take Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and play three games in Memphis to get an idea of what the best teams have to offer. Your confidence level and skill level will rise after you have played in the best area of the state. As for Bearden, they just got beat. Every team that made it to State didn't make it by a fluke. Each team can win and that's what happened. I make no excuses for any team that lost. There can only be one winner, and for the losers to make excuses, it shows their maturity level. Just say "I got beat by a better, hungrier, and more prepared team." /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" /> /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
  20. Now that's cockiness to reply from your own quote. Do you talk to yourself in third person? "I bet he does." No he doesn't. "What would you know?" Shut up! "No, You shut up!" /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  21. Maybe now we can put to rest all the hype about Bearden being one of the greatest teams in TN ever. It takes more than talent to be one of the greatest. The most important ingredients are a good PG and Chemistry, both of which Bearden lacked and it showed.
  22. Did someone overlook you saying Red Bank would have a top 25 ranking if they won those two games at 22-12? Please tell me you were joking right? /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  23. I don't think Bearden is low class in this scenario. I do believe that they do get away with some show-boating and other issues that seem to be personality and taunting. Blevins is one of the best coaches out there that hasn't won the gold ball. I wish him well this week. I spoke with my Aunt, who is on the Knox County Board, and she has been to games of Bearden and told me that the players "flip" their jerseys to show off like the Pro sports athletes do. I see some in Region 1 do the same thing. This is more of a societal problem than just Bearden. Our youth are imulating glorified athletes more and more. We, as parents, are responsible for how our own children act. Coaches can only control so much. Many issues of a personality thing is all about how a parent raises their child. I only wish one of my daughters would go around "flippin" their jerseys and showing off. They know at a young age that I would come out of the stands and truely embarass them for acting that way. Some, not all, of today's youth have no fear or respect of their elders. And yes you do have to put fear in your kids. Not I'll beat you fear, but an understanding of consequences for their behavior. GOOD luck to all!!!!! GOD Bless!!!!!! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  24. tomatoe, tomattoe, who really cares about the blind draw. You guys think that they just come up with this to appease the East? They did the blind draw years ago and for a long time. The reasoning is that when the final eight are in place, rankings go out the window, and to win it all, you must beat everyone you face anyway. So why the whining and bickering? Only die-hard fans know where their team got put out last year. Noone remembers the final four contestants but those fans of their respective schools. They only remember the Champion and maybe the runner-up. In the State Finals the saying goes......"If you're not first, you're last!!!!" /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" /> Who's hungrier?! We'll find out this week!!!!!
  25. So that player happened to be outstanding. I still don't get your point about Bearden making Pitts great. Pitts is a great coach because he knows and understands the game, not where he coached. Using that same analogy....Buck VanHuss coached Skip Brown, a two-time All-American at DB, went to Wake Forest again a two-time All-American, drafted by the Celtics, Inducted into the College Hall of Fame, and was Dick Vitale's top twenty college players. Although Buck is one of the greatest high school coaches ever, he didn't MAKE Skip....Skip was a great athlete. A coach is there to build a good system and get the most out of the talent they have. And Bearden has some great talent...Good luck next week!!!!
