  1. You're going way back huh Scott! /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" /> I still see those ole boys from time to time, so yeah I could secure that side of the sponsorship. But since you are BIG MONEY, then I can leave all that up to you right? /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
  2. Tell you what....by next year, I will be ready to coach AAU again unless I get a head coaching job around here in the TSSAA market....yeah right. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" You scout along with WACO and I promise that I will coach em. I've really missed the games and the guys. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> Maybe Tri, CAP, WACO, and myself could start this webbie thing and charge $30 for membership dues and some procedes go back to investing in these athletes within our own area. These kids need exposure to the best to see they can stack up evenly with others. Let's make it happen cause in three years, I'm switching to girls AAU. My 10 year old will be ready to take my coaching by then. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />
  3. The coach who replaced VanHuss was Steve Shipley. I graduated with his brother Ken in 87. VanHuss didn't stop, he was forced out and died the summer before completing what was told would be his last year.
  4. The 04-05 season saw DB go 16-9, losing in the first round of the District to South 63-48, and the 01-02 season saw DB lose to Cocke County 64-61 in the first round of the Regionals. Yes DB has had worse days. They just need to win two straight to qualify for the Sub-State. Win Saturday and they will be back home.... /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  5. Again, you look at skewed stats with no level playing field. Ridgeway and White Station dominated their area and the state. Until there are more equal terms of the TSSAA playoffs, there will always be ONLY TWO teams maximum that can come out of Memphis. Here's a solution.... When the season starts and all the Memphis school teams have their roster, let them travel East and play in the Big Nine, the IMAC, the Watauga Conference, etc.... put two Memphis teams in each conference here in the East and see how many of our own from East TN make it out of the Regionals....
  6. My GOD!!! The dead has arisen!!!!! Welcome back to the Big Nine board fellas. Please tell me that you (CAP) will be on here next year even without your kids gone from THS. /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" /> /excl.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":excl:" border="0" alt="excl.gif" />
  7. After reading this post, I had to see an eye doctor. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> One set of parenthesis, no "I's" capitalized, no names capitalized, one period to shorten the word conference, and six exclamation points after one word. /wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" /> The rest of the post had T9 texting issues with abbreviated words. And I'm still trying to figure out who the BEARCATS are. /unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> I didn't know we had BEARCATS in the Big Nine. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
  8. The baseball board must be getting lit up. Even Tri or CAP haven't commented or given any info on the game. Oh well...... just goes to show that life is short... Love hard, play hard!!!! GOD BLess!!!!
  9. I'm from the Hills of East TN, and the numbers you jost posted are a little skewed. Yes only 17 teams out of 54 have played on Saturday, but the way the TSSAA has the seedings and sectionals, there can only and always be two from each Sectional. On any given year, Memphis could have anywhere from 2 to all 8 in the elite 8 playing in Murfreesboro each year. If the seedings were more like the NCAA Final 64, where you send teams from the same conference to different areas, then Memphis could clean sweep some brackets. Let's face it, basketball is a top priority in Memphis. In East TN, school, morals, and these teenagers going out with their girlfriend or playing Wii are more important than basketball or any sports for that matter. Not saying one way of thinking is better than another, just pointing out the differences. GOD Bless!!!!!
  10. Wow!!! SCience Hill must have a "gag-order" on here. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" Congrats to da Hill and good luck to all Big Nine teams in the Regionals!!! GOD Bless!!!!!
  11. Give you a hint............you might not be surprised to see who beat them in their back-to-back losses at home.......and for the record, one of them is not Science Hill!!!!! /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  12. CAP is way ahead of me on the reply. There are many camps that these kids can look into, but as CAP knows, not many are for Seniors. By the time athletes are Sr.'s, scouts have either already assessed them or are too wrapped up into finding the Soph Sensations out there. It is sad to say that Sr.'s get over-looked for younger meat, but that the nature of the business. And it is a business after high school. College coaches don't get paid millions of dollars for nothing. Anyway......tomorrow night should be excellent to watch. Can the Vikes slow-roll there way to victory? Can the Hill continue their impressive late season run? Will DB regroup and set up tee-pee in their own home or be run off their reservation by the Southern Rebels? Hey Tri!!! When was the last time DB lost two straight home games? hmmm..... /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" GOD Bless!!!!!
  13. You can never under-estimate the importance of a true PG. You are right CAP that most coaches have one system that they work til they die. I like to assess what talent I have to work with and develop a system that will work the best. CAP Again has seen the otherside of the mountain and the wealth of talent it holds. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />
  14. Everyone always wants to knock off the teams that have glorified success. DB is such a team with its history of winning and dominating these hills. But! They are only dominant around these hills. Even with the 90's SUPER SQUAD that should've, could've, and would've won two gold balls with ease but didn't! DB has always had its share of "politics" hindering the program. Think about what we could have had...George Pitts. Not many people on here remember Pitt's availability. fOR MANY REASONS IT NEVER MATERIALIZED.... Pitts is a proven winner wherever he goes and for DB not to do "WHATEVER" it had to do to get him was a grave mistake. Not knocking any coaches that have coached for DB, but when you have a chance to get the BEST, you pull out all the stops. Morgan is a great coach no doubt. He has taken them to the state numerous times and won his state title in Va. For whatever reason, DB is not a "big-game" winner. Could it be the pressure? I don't think so. When you get out of these hills, there are teams like Science Hill and DB EVERYWHERE out West. The BIG difference is that they all play each other so they have the whole season playing "Big-Games" night in and out. It becomes a matter of routine for them. Anyone from around here will have a higher stake at each level of tourney play, then the "Big-Games" climax at the Sub-State and State finals. Maybe DB needs to make a round-robin venture out west and take one week, play three games (Tues, Thurs, and Sat) in Memphis against top quality teams. They have the money to do it, just need to schedule it. Just a thought through STG's /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> ......GOD Bless..... /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  15. Where do I start? DB has played inconsistent this whole year, never finding a groove. But etathlete, they are not one and done. And if they win and the Hill wins, TN High has the #1 seed from Region 2, while the two powerhouses will more than likely be sending one of themselves home in round two of the regionals. I will always say this...if you have a good PG and fundamental skills, you can beat talent any day. It's all about the flow. The game is 15% skills and 85% mental. You have to understand the game from a mental stand-point, and having a good guard that can control tempo will always work in your favor. TN High just learned from the two losses during the season against DB. The signs of a SMART team, maybe not the most talented (see DB & Science Hill), but SMARTS will keep you in the thick of things come tourney time!!!! GOD Bless!!!!! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" /> PS.....if TN High wins, then they will be with DB in the regionals.....hmmmmm /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
  16. What was Cap's stat line for the night? /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> Triple Double? Way to go old man!!! /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" Didn't know you still had it in you!!!! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  17. Does the South win give Central or Boone the motivation they need to stage another upset? Or will the higher seeds become more focused and play like they are capable of? Stay tuned to the same Big Nine thread, yada yada yada.....God Bless!!!! /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />
  18. Congrats to South for making the Regionals!!!!
  19. Could there be an upset on the horizon?
  20. Halverson is DB's best shooter; McConnell is a good shooter but needs time to set up; and Sylvester is the most athletic that can get streaky and go on a tear. They key for DB will be to get "CONNECTED!!!!" Team chemistry is EVERYTHING, especially this time of year. You can have the best five players on the court at any given time. But unless they are "flowing" together, they are just five players playing individually. Time warp with me to 1992......... That summer the AAU nationals were held in the Tri-Cities, with the final four at South. The TN Travelers had a LOADED team with locals Damon Johnson, Shane Williams, Shane Carnes, & JaMichael Mills. Great individually but could not ever get the chemistry down. But their talent got them to the final four. Along comes a little Indiana (Hoopsters) team and did not have near the talent the Travelers had. This Indiana team was well coached, played great defense, and had TEAM CHEMISTRY. They flowed together like a well-oiled machine. They also upset the Travelers and eventually won the Nationals that year. My point being.....you can have the best team and best group of individuals on the team, but unless you have TEAM CHEMISTRY, you are prone to being upset at any time!!!! GOD Bless and enjoy these games we are blessed to have in our area.... /sleep.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="-_-" border="0" alt="sleep.gif" /> STG report coming soon.... /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />
  21. The Death Match ended in Volunteer squeaking out a three point overtime win. Both teams at times were sloppy but they gave their all. Volunteer finally hit their freethrows, going 5-6 in overtime. Cameron Trent probably saved the game and had two BIG blocks with under ten seconds to go. Crockett seemed to be headed for their first victory against a conference foe, jumping out to an eight point lead in the second quarter, but the Falcons erased that lead and held a five point lead of their own at intermission. Crockett made a run in the third and took the lead, and it went back & forth the rest of the way. Turnovers were rampant in the fourth quarter. Next up for the Falcons are the Hilltoppers. GOD Bless & good luck......
  22. The reason for my turnaround is that South is the #4 seed and East matches up well with them. Central does not match up well with TN High this year. The top two go without saying. I will say that the best game, besides if DB and the Hill match up again, of the District Tourney will be tonight's WWF match between Crockett and Volunteer. This game will be one to watch, and I'm not joking on this one. These two teams will put it all on the line in tonight's Valentine's Day Death Match. Betta getcha popcorn ready!!!!! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" /> GOD Bless.......
  23. No doubt Cappy, I was never takinga shot at Justin. There does need to be others surrounding him, or whoever is at the PG position. And you asked earlier to name another PG better..... That's just it, there are not many, if any, true PG's aside from Corey. I can't remember many others but DeShaun was great for TN High. I think Whitcher understands the importance of the PG position. Ask him, Burns, and even Pitts what a Pg is to them. I will bet you that all of them will say the PG is like an assistant coach, or some term close to it. He runs the show like the QB in football. When I played for VanHuss, he didn't have to call plays or set defenses. That was my responsibility and he had faith that I would make the right decision. Many coaches today have taken that area away from the game, because they don't feel confident and want that "power" rush of calling the shots. There are times when you need to take control as a coach, but it is a thing of beauty when you work hard in practice, know your game plan, and the coach watches while the team executes without the coach having to say much. In my years of coaching, the best PG to ever play for me in AAU was.....sorry guys from Science Hill or DB.......Nathan Norman, and he was from Elizabethton. The kid executed a game plan like a NY orchestra playing on broadway. BTW..... I'm changing my forecast for upsets. I think there will be no upsets this year, and the four top seeds will make the final four of the Big Nine. It's a game of matchups, and the four top seeds have done weill against their opponents. GOD Bless!!!!!
  24. hands down your winner.... /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />
  25. You are talking to a "true point guard" and there is nothing bad against Sylvester on this issue. I think he has done the best job he could at that position. But.....he is not at his natural position. Sylvester can create for himself, but has issues creating for others. What I look for in a PG is his ability to control tempo. Corey is great at establishing Tn High's tempo every game. That's why they are in every game they play. The PG position is the most important one on the floor. You have nicknames like Floor General, Sergeant, and the Colonial to name a few. Yes the PG will lead the team in turnovers, but 7 is too high a number. I preach that more than 10 turnovers is too much. Volunteer avgs around 20 per game. If you do the math, then that is 20 less shots. Let's say that you hit 50% from the field. That would leave ten made shots, and a 20 point difference. Not many teams will lose by more than 20 points. The most important aspect of the PG position is his assist-to-turnover ratio. You want a PG to have a 2-1 ration. That would mean Sylvester would have to dished out 14 assists in that game. In my hay-day, I had a career 4-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio (avg 8AST & 2TO per game). So you shouldn't be so surprised at my comments, as I think like a "true point guard."
