  1. Thanks for the props folks. It's been a good year, indeed. All the glory goes to Jesus Christ, not me. B/C a J/C <>< OD21 (Alan Knox)
  2. If all three of you squads dip below 8 I will be very impressed. That's killin it...the fact that I'm skeptical - let that be motivation for ya!!! Best a luck to all the 32 relay fellas this Friday. B/C a J/C <>< OD21
  3. Now, please understand that I'm not claiming this guy is the undisputed, much less contender for the state title in either the 100 or 200, but with all the buzz about Coker, Thompson, Earvin, Bentley, and the others, there's some little short kid by the name of Joseph Slater from (I believe) coffee co. that won the 100m and placed 2nd in the 200m at today's AAA sectional for the Chatty region @ Red Bank. I apologize that I can't offer the official times for both races (even if I did they'd be handheld) but I trust that those that are concerned, skeptical, or excited for this kid will seek out the times posted somewhere on this beautiful internet sometime in the next few days. Lest someone asks, Joseph is AAA, in the Chattanooga region. So, any thoughts about this kid, or predictions for the AAA 100m in general? B/C a J/C <>< OD21

    800

Hey there, LHS! Um, if you can remember - if you can't that's fine - but when and/or what meet did this happen at? Did Carroll beat Hill just a few days ago or earlier in the season? Thanks for your time. As far as AAA goes, I believe we're looking at Kincaid from Karns, Hudson from Oak Ridge, and Hill from Siegal...of course, there are plenty of cats that have broken 2; but I believe these three fellas are the only ones in the 1.57 or better range for the OPEN 800. That's - obviously - not to say that there aren't other people out there capable, these are just the dudes I'm aware of. Course, this is just AAA that we're talking about. Peace, <>< OD21
  5. A shame there aren't any printed results but did come upon a link of pictures... Try here and see where it gets ya. Peace, <>< OD21
  6. Anjare' Washington killed everyone. As far as overall results go - and Kenwoodrun I'm sure can verify/correct - in the girls I think Kenwood got either 1st or runner up, and in the guys Riverdale got first, and it was either Kenwood or Tullahoma with runner up. Please correct me if I got something wrong. Anybody have printed results?
  7. Will be interesting...but DJones didn't run the 2mile @ Great 8...he just ran the mile cause he didn't want to burn himself out...knowing he'd hit Kenwood this weekend. Best of luck to him, but if he does half-way in the 2mile, it's gonna take some killer strength to break 4:23 a few races later in the 16. Best of luck to him anyway. Peace, <>< OD21
  8. Looks like all you 3200 runners might wanna go over and shake Bumbi's hand for staying out of the 32...heh heh. Of course, the funny thing, he could run all three distance races and win them all...even with the very short periods of time between distance races. On second thought, instead of shaking his hand, you might want to slip him some cash for his grace and mercy. Heh heh Best a luck to everyone. Peace, OD21
  9. Um, I saw something about it a few minutes ago on News 2 from Nash [it's just past 5:00 here]. I'm pretty sure it involved Kenwood's cross country squad...I came on here to see if Kenwood's coach had mentioned anything. I pray everyone is okay. I'm not sure on most of this, but I do know there were injuries, and I think they were to the bus driver...I think they may have said an assistant coach got slightly injured. I am rather sure, though, that they said no players were hurt. I believe they also mentioned how some following vehicle got caught up in the crash as well. Sorry the info is so fuzzy here...if someone could clear it up...keep the squad in your prayers and the families of the people involved, though. Peace, OD21
  10. Actually, I think he got 6th in both events...but nothin to take away from him. He's still got another year, though. And you're right, bout everyone in the 100 and 200 were underclassmen. Heck, a soph got 2nd in the 100 and 1st in the 200 [partially since Pearson didn't run]. BEST a luck to ya Chi, next year. Peace
  11. Yep. [Especially if he goes all out.] Will he catch Dusty though? [?] Peace
  12. Guys state quali'z Dawkins got 110 and 300 hurdles 4x4 Team 4x8 Team Calvin Brazier open 4 There may be more, but that's all I know Peace

    1600

Section 2-AAA Thursday, May 15, 2003 Riverdale High School 1600: 1.) Jeff Taylor (sr) [bradley cent.] 4.23 2.) Tray Hurst (sr) [mcminn co.] 4.24 3.) Alan Knox (jr) [coffee co.] 4.25 4.) Zach McCool (jr) [rhea co.] 4.31 Peace
  14. Exactly. It's all about priorities, man. You hear coaches stressin each year before the season about how 'this is the year, and this is what we're gonna do'. It usually ends with: Remember fellas, Sports is the 4th most important thing, next to school, then family, then most of all, God. Hobbies and chicks come 5th and 6th priority. The truth is, this is never the case. It's all about winnin, and when the season gets rollin, sports is top priority-throw the rest out the window. We all wanna set aside what really matters for the temporary-for the practices, the games, the conditionings, the free-time-whatever. Everybody forgets about what really matters in life. We wanna put God in a box, disregard our family, and throw away our grades just for the sake of a W. Man, you can't take sports with you. You can be the most sought after prep athlete and get injured. Do all those rings really stack real when your health is failing you? I mean, for real, we all wanna live our life, live it up, have fun while we can, and we die, we die. Priorities, man. You put God first and everything falls in line. And life may be runnin fine without Him right now, and if we think we can live without Him, that's cool, right? God bless America. Think God takes that lightly? And we expect a genie to come out of a bottle and bless our country, give Him a high five, and we don't do anything for Him. We never go out and put our belief into action; we think a church visit or two seals the deal. We must be Christians. Yet, we show up to every practice, do everthing coach says, and even practice on our own time, so we definitely athletes. How can we expect God to act when we don't even step? You know, if we put half as much energy, half as much time, half as much faith, half as much priorities in God as we do sports, we'd start to see the big picture. Nothing lasts forever, and reality proves that. All I'm sayin is, sports is all gravy, but we gotta realize that sports is not ALL. But for some, sports is all they think they have and that's what's sad. We think if we don't get that scholarship, if we don't maintain that winnin status, we can't cut it. In God's eyes, we shoud all be losers, cause we can't measure up to Him. Instead, he's faithful when we ain't, he gives us chances when we don't even give em to ourselves. Man, we all runnin the race of life, whether we want to or not. And when we check ourselves, it's clear-ain't none of us measure up-the next man is always better. When the finish line smacks you in the face, how you gonna be runnin? Some gone be runnin away from God. Some gone be runnin after God. Some may even be runnin for God. But lemme tell you this. The only ones that's gonna win is the one's runnin WITH God. Evaluate what your standin for, and be real with it. When you about to die, don't call God's lifeline all of a sudden. Ride all the way right now, or don't ride at all. Peace, OD21
  15. Heh heh, profound, I must say.
  16. football fanatic: If I'm not mistaken, Joseph Slater clocked a 11.49 at Stan McNabb and close to 11.00 flat last Friday at District 8. They've got cams at the T-town so I'd say the times are pretty accurate. I'm quite sure about the Stan McNabb time, but not 100 percent on the District 8. If I find out for positive, I'll let ya know. Peace
  17. Lincoln Co.'s Nettie Halcomb smashed everyone today @ T-town (District Meet). 11:40ish on the 2mile, 5:29 on the mile, and 2:27 in the open 8. Remember, she did all this on the same day. What's crazy, is no one was even close in any of these races. She was barely outta breath...and I'm pretty certain that, if pushed, she'll have a chance to compete respectfully at state. Of course, if she laid back and just focused on one race, who knows? Like I say, she wasn't pushed today. You gotta give her credit. [Oh and, for the people who all want times for this district, lemme just restate myself when I say that this district is by no means anywhere close to the speed or skill of East Tn, Nash, or Memphis teams. The cat who started the thread just wanted to know who the standouts were from THIS district. Our times won't hold a candle to the big track meccas across the state; if someone backs up 'claims' with times, it's not to say 'Hey, this district'll smash anyone' (cause we won't) If someone puts up times, it's just to better support and define the quote 'standouts' of THIS district.] Peace
  18. As far as distance goes: Yeh, Shelton's good, but not just in the 3200. He's also fabulous in the 1600 and 800. Of course, he's a senior, and Hurder's only a soph. I'll tell you what though-that other Oakland soph isn't too bad either. Kevin Huie? (I think that's close to his name. He ran in the 10's and a sub 5 mile all in the same day @ Stan McNabb. Columbia's got a good distance runner, but he couldn't make it to Stan McNabb. Oh yeh, another thing, T-towns also got an awesome distance runner in junior Casey Thomas; he excells more in XC but don't be surprised if he takes the baton next year from Brad on the 2mile in the district. From what I hear, Lebanon's got some stellar frosh distance runner but I haven't seen any action. If you're gonna count Oakland and Riverdale in this area, lemme throw in Cookeville's Justin Birdwell. This kid is fast...in the 32, 16, and the 8. Don't get me wrong, though...I'm not saying this district even comes close to the Knoxvilles and the Memphises, and so on, but if you're from this area, these are the cats to watch. Peace

    Oakland

Jim Hurder (Soph) ran a 4:47 or so at Stan McNabb this past Saturday, and another cat from the Oak (Soph) - Kevin Hewie or something? - got sub 5. They both got 10:40's in the 2 mile. Some short kid won the open 800 @ Stan McNabb with a 2:04. Sorry, that's all I got, but I'm sure you'll be hearin more as the season rolls out. Peace
  20. Uh, lemme see. I think Slater got 11.49; but I'm not positive, but I can confirm that he got 1st. As far as 4x4 goes, T-town got that one, and if I'm not mistaken...T-town's Calvin Brazier won the open 4. Also, LC's Nettie Holcamb (sp?) won the 2mile with a low 11. Some Macon County chic won the 1600 with a 5:45. Guys 3200: T'towns Shelton got like 10:24 and 2nd and 3rd place were both Oakland, each in the 10:40's. Some short black kid from Oak also won the open 8 with something around a 2:04. I'd never seen him before. Nothing blazin though, to be realistic, but I guess if you're from the region, it matters more. It was pretty nice though to see Slater, a kid lucky to be 5'9" overcome the 6'4" likes of Columbia, Riverdale, Oakland, and Tullahoma. Peace
  21. StevenW: Missile got 2nd in the 400 for Regionals at Red Bank, but he dq'd/false started in the 200m at Red Bank. He got 8th at state. Peace
  22. Yeh, man; Blackman is a AAA high school in Murfreesboro (Rutherford Co.)...It's one of the three major Murfreesboro high schools, along with Oakland and Riverdale. Btw, you probably know, but just in case...Murfreesboro is located almost exactly in the center of TN; it's kinda btwn Nash and Chattanooga. If you told me some city on the extreme east or west of TN, I might not know about it, but I'm glad to help since I live basically close to Murfreesboro. BTW, while we're on the "longer T&F season" I'd say this: As long as I'm healthy, I don't mind the length, but as I get better so does everybody else. Having a "TN-Universal" Indoor League would be quite a large jump, but at the same time it'd be quite hard to ease into it and still get anything going. I look at it this way: XC gives you enough running in the fall, if you wanna stick with it over the winter; fine-on your own time...and then you got from late Feb to the end of May for Track season. That's plenty of time as far as running goes, and if you want a longer Track & Field, you're starting to cut into my summer vacation time...and that can't happen. Besides, you've got sunburn, heat cramps, dehydration...ok-it's not much different from right now. I say let somebody else decide, and I'll stay passive.
  23. Well, I don't got anything fantastic yet, cause guys is today...of course, by now sum guys already won the 2mile (10:54 a.m. CT). I'm still at home...I hope I can still get down there to watch sum races but I'll be kinda busy today. Anyway, I talked to a chic at graduation last nite (she's a frosh, though) an she did the pole vault...she said that Nettie Halcomb got 4th in the 2mile by only 2 tenths of a second...but Nettie's just a Junior, so congrats to her, there's always next year. And then something about that Brentwood girl didn't win 1st! She suppossedly jacked the bar up too high or something and then scratched the next triple. Oh well, if everyone else is too tired or lazy tonite, I'll try to give you a good recap of the boys' running events...that is, if I can make it down there. Peace, OD21 [Edited by Opedawg21 on 5/26/02 12:34P]
  24. Yo TJohnson, primo, whatever...that's incredible, and you ran a what??? 4:25 mile the other day? Wow. I guess the Knoxville area is just pure smoke when it comes to the mile...and 1:56 woulda qualified for our region (Region 4) easily. 1st place was 1:59, but I guess you know that. Best a luck in the 4X4 saturday, what leg do you run?
