  1. Well it is obvious that Coach Haile's coaching style varies a lot from Coach Hess's. First off though ninth grade ball is a different thing than varsity. Practices are not half as intense and games are not either. Ninth grade players were not asked to put in as much time practicing as they do now either. Haile though doesn't have near as an intimidating yell as Hess does. He has his own yell if you have seen him coach that is not quite as strong. He isn't as big a perfectionist as Hess is either. A head coach should be though. You have to remember that Hess was coming from boys to girls. Thats a big adjustment when it comes to relating to your players. You can't yell at girls like you can guys and you can't motivate them the same way. So he had to adjust was he started loosing players.
  2. Layup- Thanks but I knew Whited was retired. If you go back and look at it you are the one who brought up the past not me. I was just not going to let you try and bash Coach Whited. Don't hate on the man on just cause he was great. By the way you need to quit saying he quit at Riverdale, he didn't quit. What do you want me to explain about that? How you hate the fact that the man won so many games with no talent. I got a question how come you said "...you Cafe Coaches". Why aren't you a cafe coach? You are real one or something.........
  3. The spoiler- I didn't know I had said anything about Whited recently in this thread. Sorry bout that. I'm not living in the past though and I have not said anything that would indicate I am. I only answer questions about that time period...I don't compare the too or try not to. So I am not hurting anything with my comments or anyone. I made the comments I did about the guys team to prove a point to benchcoach. What I said bout the guys team was just some facts to prove that point. I support the guys and I want to see them do well. I watch them play all the time. I don't know really where I stand on Slatten just critical really not on a side. I support him and if he's at White County I hope he is winning games cause I want White Co. to be successful. I don't agree with all he does and how he does a lot of things but I don't say he is clueless and killing the team. I just question what he does. I just thought I would clear all that up for you. I wish the guys the best of luck and I"ll be at their next game like I was their first 7 or 8. Benchcoach- I don't know what it really matters actually. Why do you think it matters? Do you think he isn't as dedicated as he should be because of it? Think he doesn't care as much? He is as dedicated as any coach out there and wants this team to win more than anyone. Why do you think it matters? See if you can answer one of my questions this time too.
  4. Benchcoach- I don't know if I would is the whole geam but I'd say its the whole game but it sure can decide the game. That wasn't my question though. I'd appreciate it if you would answer my question though. You keep saying Hess should play his best players in crunch time. Who is he not playing that you think should be playing? Thanks for the answer. Cookeville fans looking at Coach Hess? First off so what, but I mean cookeville's coach is notorious for being a hot head and getting technical fouls. A lot more known for her temper than Hess is for his. You say we should change our offensive scheme but I think its our execution and maybe more our defense also really. I say our execution because they were running the same offense at the beginning of the season and scored over 60 points in 3 of their first 4 or 5 games. So it seemed like the offense was affective but now the girls don't seem to execute good screns and good cuts as often as they were early. I know you are wondering why I said defense cause we aren't giving up that many points a game and didn't give up many tuesday. I think the defense is good but they are not forcing the turnovers they were forcing early on in the season. There offense gets rolling when they are getting turnovers and getting in the open floor. Best offense is a good defense kind of thing. I do agree with you partly though. Hess has some plays that I think are more effective than others. It does seem like lately he has been running more of those. So i don't know if he needs to change the offense but use more of it and get his other stuff in that he was running the first few games. Offenses with a spread floor and more cuts towards the basket, rather it be basket cuts or cutting off screens. It lets the girls free lance more than a flex for example. They should be putting up 60 a game. More post touches would help to I think. Tell me what you think he should do offensivley.
  5. lakeguy123- Have you ever considered why Cookeville JV may have played like crap? Perhaps because sparta's play caused them to, I don't know its just an assumption. If cookeville's JV is so good why don't they move some of those great players up to varsity. They struggled against what is supposed to be a weak White Co. They could use some of those JV superstars that didn't show up tuesday. I know your JV team can't be that good.........cause your varsity team isn't. So I mean you can call White Co. terrible or awful or whatever all you want but remember when you do that you barely could beat them.
  6. layup- You said in one of your post that you just want the facts to be known. Well in one of your post you said that "Whited showed what happens when you don't have talent..........you do not win". I mean let the facts be known and correct yourself. If it was like you said and Whited didn't have any talent in those teams after his state championships thats fine, but check the records Whited won over 24 games both years with NO TALENT. So I guess someone showed that you could win with no talent. Go back and check and tell me if I read that right.
  7. I read just fine thanks. If i need any tutoring though anytime soon I'll be sure and call you. I don't see how people can't see why Coach Whited retired. Everyone always says the talent was running out, thats what they said when Jolly, Gribble, and Austin graduated. No one gave that team a chance and a lot of people saw Whited gone then. He stayed though and won 25 or so games with a team that everyone thought would be awful. Then he basically had a couple of guys talk him into staying one more year for them. He was probably 95% sure that was his last year before that season started. The team played a terrible game and got blown out against a team they had previously beaten. It was the second half of the season and Whited announced his retirement after the game. He told his players that cause he thought they might use it for motivation. He told them how bad he wanted it his last year and how hard he was going to work and he wanted them (seniors primarly) to do the same from then on out and rededicate themselves pretty much. Whited had a son that was about 2 at the time and he was making much more money in real-estate. He spent so much time with basketball that you couldn't understand, and he wanted to spend more time with his new son and his wife. So he did what was best for him and his family. There you go man..........inside scope from Hard Copy. I mean if that is quiting on the team then I'm confused. One more thing, if Whited came back and had all his players he would have been 1st or 2nd in a watered down district 7AAA last year.
  8. Layup- Nice post, you made a point and turned around and contradicted it. You just said that just players couldn't win a state championship, to take up for Slatten. Then you try to make it sound like the players won it for Coach Whited. Its like you said players aren't going to win it by themselves......thats crazy. Whited had Jolley and Gribble, not the Yarboroughs, Henderson, or Slay (but he beat them all). Whited's teams were not the most talented teams in the tourney either year. You said Whited shows what happens when you don't have talent......you lose? Really? Go back and check his records then........he won at least 24 games both years after the state championships Sounds like he was still winning to me and you said yourself that he didn't have good talent then. So if he wasn't any good how did he win that many games with no talent like you said? Thanks for making my point for me........
  9. "Ran off" 15 players his first couple of years you are right. Funny that you don't see all those girls quiting now though. Maybe those girls couldn't handle Hess since all their life they had not been yelled at and actually worked hard. Haley and Dycus may have had some trouble with him but I mean it couldn't have been to much cause he is still there coaching. I know its not near as much trouble as another coach at White Co, but I never hear you say anything about him. That other coach ran off bout 10 players last year but you continue to support him. The guys team has been capable of winning every game they have played this year. Talent wise 1-6 they have not been outmatched by much at all in any game. That coach still is like 2-6 but you support him. Not to mention losses to several smaller schools, you criticize Hess when he beats small schools but the guys loose to them.. So I guess I just don't get why you have no problem with him but don't like Hess.
  10. I will have to say that I agree with some of the points brought up. I don't know if I understood why he brought 5 girls off the bench for the last 3 minutes of the first. Its a risk throwing out that group when cookeville still has their first line up in. However, I can understand what he might have been thinking. I've seen that second group come in and score 15 points in the last 3 minutes in a quarter this year. Playing a team as good as cookeville in cookeville though, that was a very risky move. Benchcoach, I don't see why you think Hess is out of control on the sideline. There are a thousand coaches in Tennessee that are more out of control than he is, and one at his on school even. I thought the girls should have won the game even though having a poor game. Like I said they still have a lot of improving. I got a question for benchcoach to, you keep saying at crunch time you should be playing your best............who is Hess not playing that should be playing?
  11. Warrior Dad- "Wonder what it is like to have to WORK to be the best?" I don't know what you were trying to imply by that statement and I hope it wasn't what it sounded like. I mean it sounded like you were implying that those teams that won those state championships didnt have to work to be the best. Let me assure you those teams worked and worked until they couldn't anymore. No one has spent as much time in the gym as those teams. Thats a fact I know. So don't try to make it sound like those teams just sat around and won it all cause it doesn't work like that.
  12. So tell me what is your problem with Hess? You need to quit holding that personal grudge against him. You don't get on here and bash players and call out names. You are right about that and I apologize for saying it like that. However, when you get on here and repeatedly say that the team is not playing good, that they should be a lot better, and things to that nature then you are bashing that team. Its a given though to say those things though cause that is what this board is for, for us fans to say what we think. However, when every post you make is talking about how they are not doing something and NEVER anything good about them, then you are bashing that team. You are right distict schedule is coming and we are going to see what the girls are made of. I'm sure you will be in attendance tonight, I know I will be. By the way the girls have played a team that is anything but weak in Campbelle Georgia. That team has as much talent as anyone the Warriorettes will play.
  13. YOu asked who are these girls from these ragged counties? You said that no one cares bout them cause no one knows who they are. Then you sit there and admit that all these girls you think are awesome, that no one knows about them. So if you are going to get on here and knock every girl mentioned on this thread cause they are not known and are from counties that you don't know. Then a lot of people can sit here and knock your post but you wouldnt like that would you? So if you can't make a better post than that.......save it man cause no one wants to here you get on here and bash people.
  14. I see your point now with King bringing more overrall size. She would bring more of a physical presence to the paint, like she does off the bench. I don't see how you think she moves better and shoots better. King moves smooth but is not quick by any means and she is very capable of knocking down the open shot, but I wouldn't think she is any more capable than Brittany Farley. For years that was all Farley could do was shoot, now she brings more of a total package to the game and that is why she is starting. I think another reason king comes off the bench cause Hess wants her to bring that physical presence to the paint, but with that comes foul trouble in a lot of games (depending on how they are called). I don't think Hess goes wrong with starting either one of these girls though. Both of them are great basketball players and both of them are going to see starter minutes really. When the game comes down to crunch time he will play whoever is playing best that day.
  15. Why dont' you answer any of my questions? Act like I try to avoid yours and you never answer any of mine do you?
  16. I mean come back to reality benchcoach. You are not going to blow out every team you play are you? Who won the coaching battle? I'd say Upperman did, seeing as how the game was close and it shouldn't have been. I mean lets look at Uppermans success over the past few years, Its not like their coach isn't a great coach. YOu asked who's fault it was that the girls play down against weaker teams. I don't know is it the coach Hess's fault or the girls? A coach can only do so much, at some point the girls have to do something don't they. The coach can prepare a great game plan but its up to the players to execute that plan. Its up to the players to play at the same level night in and night out, cause believe me i'm sure the coaches are trying to get them too. You act like the coaches tell them to play down or something. Its the coach's responsibility to get them ready and to direct the action on the floor. However, the coach can't go out there and make a girl play harder or smarter can he? I make excuses? You can call them that if you want to. Its the truth though. Do you want our team to be as good as they can be right now and not improve any at all? While other teams continously improve as the season goes along. So you think Lewis being hurt didn't affect the teams play any? The girls have looked really good at times and average at other times. Maybe I'm just making up more "excuses". I'd rather make up "excuses" than bash the coach and team though, like yourself. I don't think it matters what the girls and coach Hess do this year, cause no matter what you will still bash Hess and whine about something. I can't imagine what you will say when the girls loose one. I mean you complain so much when they are 6-0.
  17. Benchcoach- It was obviously not a great game for the Warriorettes. The offense struggled and the defense fell apart a couple of times. Lewis being hurt didn't help the offense any or defense for that matter. Thats no excuse though cause that team is very deep. It seems to me that the girls don't play as sharp against weaker teams. Execution not as good offensivley or defensivley, sloppy ball handling, and poorer decision making. Thats something that you expect to see more with that younger group, but not with his experienced people. I don't see why you say talent is being wasted? What talent is not getting to play that should be? The girls have to continue to improve but what team could not improve anymore the rest of the year and win the state? One or maybe two at the most and probably none of them actually. District play is starting, so now you can get a look at how good a team is or isn't. I'm going to support them myself, you can stand wherever you want on that. Jimbo44- We'll see all in good time I guess. No need to talk all that mess bout it. We'll let the game talk it out.
  18. The girls are as good (if not better) than their 6-0 record. Hickock is a very good player, and fast enough to stay with any guard in the state. However, the best player on that team is Natalee Anderson. She proved how she can score by putting up 27 in a game earlier, and more importantly she can effect the outcome of a game as much as anyone and not score. Lewis I think is great though. She has really increased her offensive play by improving her ball handling and adding a very good mid range game. Also has become a factor on the glass and on the defensive end. Farley is just fine I think. She has become a little passive on shooting the ball and needs to get back to looking to score. I don't see how you get more height with King in the line up with Sunday instead of Farley. I think King is a great player and I love watching her play but I mean she is no taller than Farley and like I said Farley can get it done and done well. The depth is definantley there which is great. Hacker will get more and more time as she continues to play like she has been and game situations call for her more also. She has to keep improving her floor game though, her ability is great and it often takes over but she is young and it shows some too. Coach Hess is doing things right I think, only time will tell though. He has changed the offense and defense from the past years. He still runs some of his old stuff but with a lot of new looks especially defensivley. He's cut the girls loose to play uptempo a lot now. They are capable of putting up a lot of points. The biggest problem I see is that they tend to play down against weaker teams and up against better teams. You expect a team to have a lot of problems early in the season though, and you expect a team to need to improve also. I mean you can't expect a team to be at a championship level at the beginning of the season. You won't to be improving as the year goes along and playing your best as the tournament comes around. This team can play with anybody and are capable of going a long way if they play like they can.
  19. I agree with you she is a fine coach. However, you always seem to think that we are out coached don't you? I mean do you think we will out coach anyone this year?
  20. I would think that the Warriorettes would have to be favored in their game. The main reason being the fact that like at least 4 of Uppermans starters (in not all 5) from last year are no longer there. They will play very hard and be a well coached team though and if the Warriorettes don't come to play it could be interesting. However, the Warriorettes are capable of blowing open any game and should do so tomoorrow.
  21. I'm not sure what kind of team maryville has this year really. I do know though that the Lee kid going to florida is the real deal though. I'd like to see who gets to chase him around all game and try to slow him down. I don't know if DB has a good enough defender.
  22. I'm not a hundred percent sure about what Hog-Eye is but I have an ideal. What I was told was that Hog Eye is some little community or something on the out skirts of livington. I'm not sure how long ago but once upon a time they had a really competitive team (always do really) and all the girls were from that community of Hog Eye. I have no ideal if there is any truth to that or not though. Just what I was told by some people from livingston. Sounds crazy to me.
  23. First off if you can't see Daniel Johnson is a huge difference in Sparta's success then you don't follow it to well. Crossville should have beat White Co. it was expected by those who know high school basketball. Coach Buck's team define hustle and hard work. They play the game like it should be. Don't worry bout talking all that mess over there though cause you got a lot bigger problems than White Co. All in good time.
  24. I"m with you on this one.White Co. is a very talented team. They are earning there respect. They should be ranked soon if they keep playing like they are.
  25. White County has two very good shooters in Amanda Lewis and Natalee Anderson. Anderson scored 27 the other night hitting 5 or 6 threes i can't remember for sure. Both of these girls can feel it up and shoot in 40% range from three. Anderson just doesn't get enough shots all the time cause she is a combo guard. She shoots 14-15 times she would put up a lot of big nights like the other one. Lewis is capable of having a big night every night.
