  1. Quick question? Why is waverly playing greenbriar to see who plays Elizabethton in the opening round? Maybe I missed something.
  2. It always starts with your feeder programs as well. Look at Sullivan East. You have Mary Hughes who produces most of their good players and you have a great middle school coach and one of the best teachers in the game Mark Mason. Hampton is another prime example. Small school competes with good aaa and AA schools year in and year out. They always have a very good feeder program that gets their kids ready for high school. I think two of the most important things in basketball till this day is setting a standard for your team and holding them accountable year in and year out to the highest extent. And the second thing is player development. I see so many kids these days who you go watch and they haven't gotten any better skill wise from the time they was a freshman till the time they graduate and a lot of that comes with how much time you put in your game from the time March ends until the time November rolls around. Not pick up a basketball in November and hope that it falls into place. Bottom line is you have very small schools like Cloudland and Hampton who compete with the best year in and year out in this area and to be truthful probably have less talent to chose from than Volunteer does. They just do a good job of taking what they have and make it work.
  3. I don't even follow volunteer basketball but I saw them play twice this year and there was talent there. They just seemed very undisciplined to me.
  4. Hands down Brooke Rhodes from Cloudland.
  5. What are some good things teams are able to do up until official practice day starts just curious?
  6. As far as Unaka goes they lost alot of kids off of last years team. I do know that they lost a pretty good catcher in Mccinturf to Chatt State,Their #2 pitcher Huskins to Milligan College and their # 1 pitcher Anderews who I am not sure if she is playing college ball or not. I know Walter State was looking at her but not sure if it fell through or what happened. But they did lost about 85 to 90 percent of their power at the plate,And some very good defensive weapons as well. University High returns mostly every starter back including their ace,Not sure of her name but when she is on they are a very tough ball club. Almost every starter returns for them as well,Because I know last year they were very young.Cloudland returns every starter from last years team finishing 3rd in the conference behind Unaka and University High,Those will be your top 3 teams out of District 1A.
  7. I dont see why everyone is putting so much stock in Oakdale? You guys got beat by Oneida and got beat by a Kingston team who only beat a horrible Cumberland Gap team by 1 point. the top 2 teams in district 1 and Cosby out of district 2 would beat any team in district 4 by 20 or more guarantee you.
  8. Does anyone have any information on any Junior Varsity tournaments around the Upper East Tennessee area that might be possible to enter?
  9. Fisherman is right. I have played and coached against many of John Dyers teams in the past and I can tell you they will not back down in the paint and they will make you run the floor and play defense. East has always had small teams but they play hard on both ends of the floor. If you remember Sullivan East used to be in the Big 9 conference so its no stranger to them to have to guard bigs inside. Dyer puts alot of emphasis on playing defense so I dont think this will be a big issue. But I do think Elizabethton will be a very tough team to compete with in that conference and do believe they have a little more talent than Sullivan East.
  10. I agree Elizabethton will be good IMO I see them splitting with Sullivan East. But I think in the long run East is just a little bit better than Elizabethton. I think Easts strong non-conference schedule will play a big role on what success they may have and coach Dyer always seems to reload every year and has his kids playing hard for 32 minutes night in and night out. Dont sleep on Unicoi though they will be tough as well.

    Hampton

Uknowit2 IMO both Cloudland and Unaka are a year or two away. Both teams are mostly made up of talented Juniors and pretty good Sophmores. I think this is one of those years where you can expect to see two things. 1. I think that any team in the conference can lose 2 games and still share or win the conference. 2.There wont be any team go undefeated. Every team in the conference this year is pretty well balanced. I dont put much stock like some people do on how a jv team finishes prior to the upcoming season. Alot of kids/teams develope a whole lot over the summer and it's hard to tell what's in store for each team until November roles around. Coaches pretty much will tell you and im a firm believer in it but you honestly dont know how good you are going to be until mid december early January which is when you want to start playing your best basketball. But I do believe this is going to be a very exciting year for every team in the conference amd pretty much expect to see a battle every night from each team. But I will give my prediction on how I think the outcome will look for each team. 1.Cloudland- Very athletic with a good Junior and younger class. Very consistent at going to the state tournament. But as usual I think defense will be their biggest focus as it is every year which will help them get back to Murfreesboro. 2.Unaka- They are alot similar to Cloudland.Very good Junior and Sophmore class that plays hard on the defensive end of the floor and has alot of athletes returning. 3.Hampton- This team is pretty much made up of good role players from last years team. Lost a good crop of seniors from last years team but I think this team has the tools to be a good team after Christmas but its one of those processes where it's going to take alot of teaching and developing kids how to get ready at the varsity level. 4.North Greene- They return a very good guard in the Britton kid to go along with good athletes. Ted always puts a good group of kids on the floor that are diciplined and plays hard.North Greene will be one of those type of teams that could upset anybody if you dont show up to play. 5.University High- They return the Crowe kid back and usually had pretty good shooters. You just never know what they are going to have coming in transfer wise prior to the season so it's hard to gage or predict how they are going to be. Feel free to let me know your opinions and good luck to everyone this season it's sneaking up on us fast.
  12. 2md behind Sullivan East.
  13. I am assuming your kid doesn't get alot of minutes. Ryan Arnold is one of the most underrated coaches in this area period. His team plays hard and competes night in and night out and he has a very high knowledge about the game. Why dont you tell me the last time Daniel Boone has played in a Substate game? When was the last time Daniel Boone won 18 games beat Science Hill twice and Dobyns Bennett once all in the same season? Not to mention Tennessee High and Unicoi as well. Look save your crap for someone who cares regardless of your freedom of opinion you are just setting yourself up to look like a complete idiot.
  14. Hampton isn't a bad baseball club. Coach Hardin has did a good job of working hard with their boys and they was close to making it into the regionals last year very much improved.
  15. what do they have this year I know they always bring a crowd which will be good for bristol. I wonder if white station will be attending? It would be nice to see #16 pg in the nation according to rivals Joe Jackson play.
  16. Does anyone know who will be competing in the Arbys Classic this season any new teams to the list.
  17. I guess the old statement is true then when they say you must play all 4 quarters not 3 in a half huh? The bottom line is this. The fans at Hampton need to quit putting so much pressure on these younger kids refferring to the Ward and Hughes kid. Are they good ball players yes but the Hampton poster's on this board and other members as well has built so much hype around these 2 boys that they dont know what to think. For 1. They are 15 year old kids who have alot of growing up to do on the court. Let them play through their mistakes and play up to their expectations and not the expectations of what people on this board want them to play up to. 2. Every athletic program knows their goal coming into the season is to win a state championship correct me if I am wrong. I believe you have to be realistic when it comes to expectations though. If you expect 2 sophmores to make or break Hamptons future once again and I quote "you must be realistic". Their freshman and sophmore years are growing periods basically as I call it (feeding goldfishes to a tank of sharks) They have many players on that team who will contribute more than what others think if people will quit expecting so much out of this young team. Logan Andrews,Dylan Hill and Jacob Jones all have the capability to make good basketball players but it's like I said before the more you expect out of these kids this early in their careers the more dissapointed you Hampton fans will be. Like I said before and this goes for Hampton,Cloudland and Unaka. Here in a few years these fishes will turn into sharks and be able to swim in the ocean.
  18. Until Unaka learns how to take care of the basketball and realize's how valuable each possesion is and get some type of offensive flow going then you will see the same result as you did against Cosby. It's not like that they play the toughest schedule they have played in years past. Outside of Science Hill and Johnson County there is not a game they shouldnt win or atleast a team they shouldnt compete with. But until they find some kind of chemistry offensively and learn to take care of the basketball in cruical games you can expect what you saw against Cosby.
  19. And exactly how many state tournament and sub state appearances did coach bowling lead his girls to ? /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> And daddy's girl i think you should bite your tounge when you make a statement by calling the WVC a weak conference. You take University High out of the picture and those other 4 teams in that conference can beat or play with your best girls competition around here on any giving night.
  20. Nice to meet you Mr Hollowell thanks for the introduction.I was just stating a comment I had heard from a source in Greeneville. And considering he is 1 of the top 5 coaches in upper East Tennessee it would have made sense.
  21. Not what I had heard from a reliable source but I know for a fact the other 4 or 5 school's had made contact with Kenneth.
  22. To be specific Science Hill's girls, Elizabethton's girls, Greeneville's girls, assistant boys position @ Daniel Boone High. And from what I heard North Green's program thought he would be a good fit for their girls as well.
  23. I would have to agree with cbizzle no one in their right frame of mind will get rid of him after all he has done and the success he has had up there at Unaka. If he goes it will be on his own leave.A few Parents may not like him but for the most part the ones that do respect what he does. And which he is not there for the parents he is there for the kids. And when you can get what he has gotten out of 8 to 9 players as young as they are and still be successful then people throughout the program and this area key on that and realize that he knows the game of basketball and that he wins with what you give him plain and simple.
  24. Well if I had to pick the way the regional bracket would go tommorrow if we was playing it would go as this. Region 1A you have Cloudland 5-2 - who is tied with hampton for second place whoever wins will move in as second place in the WVC. University School- 4-1 seems as if they will finish first in the conference and go in as the # 1 seed Hampton- 5-2 like I said tied with Cloudland whoever wins will finish 2nd place most likely. Unaka- 1-6 will play North Greene in the play in game to see who moves on to the districts. North Greene- 1-5 Plays Unaka to see who moves on to districts. I will go out on a limb and say it will go in this order for the regionals. 1.Univeristy High 2.Cloudland 3. Hampton 4.Unaka For Region 2 you have Hancock County- 8-1 who is tied with Cosby. Cosby- 7-1 who is tied with Hancock Washburn who is 5-3 Jellico who is 2-5 1.Hancock County 2.Cosby 3.Washburn 4.Jellico so it seems like the matchups will go as followed. #1Hancock County vs Unaka#4- Hancock County is way tougher than Unaka and about slipped by them last year with returning 4 starters and the way their playing Hancock moves on. #2 Cosby vs Hampton#3- Hampton is way to physical on the inside for Cosby to matchup with. #3Washburn vs Cloudland#2- Cloudland wins this one to smart of a team and playing really good basketball at the moment. #4 Jellico vs Univeristy School#1- University School to quick and to many weapons. So by projecting all of this it will go like this. Hancock County vs Cloudland- Cloudland Hampton Vs University High- University High I will go out on a limb and say Cloudland pulls off the upset just for the fact Ned Smith will find someway to stop and contest Josh Padgett and slow down the pace of the game which Cloudland seems to be on top of their game when things are going that way. Good luck to all the Region 2 and Region 1 teams and have a safe trip /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  25. North Greene has improved tremendously however the districts are not played at North Greene there for their homecooking advantage will not be able to take place. On a neutral floor they are your typical North Greene team but I agree with (dogtruth) if they come ready to play they have a shot at beating Unaka we will just have to see who get's better and who gets worse come mid late February.
