  1. There's a reason that scrimmages don't show up on the regular season record because they are..... scrimmages. We would have Paul Love playing in the field during scrimmages, fullbacks playing forward, forwards playing wings. It's an opportunity to try players at different positions, try different sets and combinations. You also try to scrimmage teams you don't see in the regular season so as not to disclose strengths and weaknesses to opponents. Trying to assess your team's prospects for the regular season based upon scrimmage wins and losses is really really stupid!

Is this the same Eddie Yah who's on leave from ManU? I heard he had to finish high school so he's going to go to Science Hill because of its outstanding academic reputation and then it's back to ManU and the all England championships. I've heard he might make it possible for SH to get out of the region this year.
  3. Sounds like McCallie might want to reconsider fielding a team this year. I wonder if it's too late for the guys to sign up for lacrosse?
  4. Let's see. Ted Turner and I share the same alma mater and I'm not talking about brown.
  5. i agree that no season is made up of all 50 states. but if you're saying the season made up of CA, TX, LA, NY and FLA is the same quality as the spring season in which tn plays, i'd have to disagree. just by virtue of the fact that ca, tx, ny and fla are 4 of the most populous states in the country is going to make them much more competitive than tn in any given year. when you take into account the quality of athletes (you pick the sport) those states regularly produce, i doubt if our best teams could break the top 20 in ca, tx and fla. again, i'm not disparaging tn soccer just pointing out where the pro talent comes from year in and year out. also, take a look at parade all americans. i know we can put together some terrific select teams from time to time but the subject is high schoo soccer.
  6. Not to belittle but to clarify. I enjoyed being on a team that was ranked nationally. And as a bonus we were able to provide Knox Catholic with the biggest single acheivement of their athletic history when they could claim they had beaten a nationally ranked team. Small price to pay to help out friends out in K'ville! I never did receive that thankyou note.
  7. Relatively few states play their high school seasons in the Spring. The states that produce the vast majority of high school all americans and consistently whip our select teams in interstate soccer tournaments play in the Fall or Winter seasons. So when one of our teams is ranked "nationally", that's nationally if the the nation was made up of 6 or 7 states and didn't include Texas, Louisiana, California, Florida, New York, to name a few. Not to disparage the level of play in our state but you have to put Spring national rankings in perspective. My team was ranked nationally while I played.
  8. Deadliest! We're talking soccer not Iraq. I've been playing for 13 years and have yet to see anyone get killed.
  9. When was the last time a local Chattanooga team beat either McCallie or Baylor? Date and Score.
  10. When was the last time ND beat McCallie? Was it in this century?
  11. No, but I imagine you would rank Soddy and Ooltewah ahead of UTC. Come to think of it, you wouldn't be too far off.
  12. Eats Democrats for breakfast. There are no Democrats at Mc. Can't afford it. Well maybe a teacher or two but that comes with the territory.
  13. Cause he's crazzzy and has huge hands! Great for pass reception; bad for brain surgery.
  14. uncfan knows his football and has the ring to prove it and several rings for other sports over his carreer at mc. He would be playing football now but decided to concentrate on premed. I think we spent too much time on the bus our senior year travelling around the state because local teams aren't playing mc anymore. He came to Mc on an academic scholarship in the 7th and put on 120 lbs by the time the was a senior and got real fast. I think he was also a merit semifinalist. hey uncfan, if you get around to reading this give me a call. Scary to think you might be operating on some of these folks one day. Chill! Peace and Love. The 'Heels could use you.
  15. There will be approximately 11 players on defense and about the same on offense. Many of their mommies, daddies and girl friends will be in attendance which will incentivize them to play their best. Since very few if any actually go to the coacht website, they don't realize that 68% of the "experts" are expecting MBA to win. So, they will practice dilligently, listen to Coach Potter and play their best because they don't want to face Coach Potter on Monday if they lose. Coach Potter will tell them that they are the underdogs but if they play with abandon and up to their capabilities, they might just win. Of course, by this time, there are several posts from this website on the bulletin board explaining that MBA has beat McCallie a lot, that McCallie's opponents were not very good and that MBA's players are in better shape and will wear McCallie out in the fourth quarter. Anything I forgot?
  16. I think we need to get a concensus what the geographic boudries of East Tn are. They kind of look like NE Tn to me based on the teams in the initial post. If that's not the case, some input from the Bobcats would help.
  17. You're 100% correct! I don't know if McCallie should even show up Friday night. I mean, heck, 62% of experts have already picked the BIG RED to win. You don't mind if they hang your post in the McCallie and Knox Central locker rooms, do you?
  18. I just looked at Farragut's schedule. So far it's even weaker than Soddy and Ooltewah's which is a major feat. Farragut's first 5 opponents have only 4 wins among them. There is some seriously weak teams in East Tennessee!
  19. Soddy, Ooltewah and Farragut's 13 opponents to date have a combined record of 16-48. I think about the only thing you can say with certainty about all three is so far they have had extremely weak schedules and that this is isn't the strongest year East Tennessee has had in football.
  20. The combined record of Ooltewah's opponents to date is 8-14. All the teams so far are Ooltewah's size or smaller. The combined record of Soddy's opponents is 4-17. All the schools played are same size or smaller.Boyd's opponents records to date is 15-9. All are larger than Boyd. McCallies opponents' combined record is 13-9. All are same classification or larger. Maybe when Soddy and Ooltewah play Oak Ridge and Farragut, we can actually #### if they're for real. In the meantime, beating up on inferior teams says more about scheduling than quality.

  22. Ayanga Okpokowuruk is from Nigeria. Fortunately, Jason Hall, now starting for UT, talked Ayanga into playing football as a ninth grader. His father had never seen a football game and when he did thought it was too violent for his son to play! Because of seriously good grades and SAT's. Stanford, Duke, etc are after him. Too bad, he could go to UT and singlely raise the average IQ of the football team by 5 points.
  23. MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Middle Tennessee head coach Steve Peterson announced the signing of McCallie School standout Ryan Moore to a national letter-of-intent on Monday. Moore, a lefthanded pitcher and first baseman, went 9-3 with a 2.40 ERA and 92 strikeouts on the mound this season. He also hit .350 with three homers and 40 RBIs for McCallie, which reached the semifinals of the TSSAA State Tournament. "We know he comes from good stock. His father, Mike, played for Coach Stanford," Peterson said. "I've known Ryan since he was a baby and have followed his career." Moore also starred in football for the Tornado in Chattanooga, but chose to continue his career in baseball. "Ryan has put most of his attention into football throughout high school but has decided to be a baseball player," Peterson added. "He has a tremendously strong lefthanded arm and will just now put his full efforts into baseball. He has all the tools to be an outstanding player."
  24. I've heard Briarcrest, but I've heard Father Ryan is going to get out. To be in the Super Seven is a very expensive proposition. I bet almost every Super 7 schools' administration would trade the Super 7 for playing a local schedule of AAAA and AAAAA teams with the occasional trip to N'ville or Memphis. Last year McCallie played in Memphis and Florida on successive weekends. The travel schedule is expensive, detrimental to academics and deprives the schools' fans of watching their teams.
  25. After going coed, the Red Raiders became girlymen!
