  1. LC09...LC dominated field play. I never said anything about limiting shots I just said LC didn't have 15. It was one of those games where Lc dominated the field play and had several hard Kicks into the Kingston defense. There weren't 15 shots on goal, period. Day stopped everything but the hopper by Mitch. That takes nothing away from the set piece but your field still stinks! You deserve better and so does your competition. You won't do well if you play a game based on long ball bad hop once you get past this region. A passing game requires good pitch. Lobby for it! Good luck as you go forward. And by the way...we both have fans that need counseling. I can't believe our AD's let the poor sportsmanship happen. ZIZou...The officiating needs to be worthy of a championship game. It wasn't! Twinkles...Kinston was lacking on offense for sure. They still had their opportunities. CAK is a great team and is one of my picks for the state title. FRA is the other.
  2. We just got through watching theKingston LC tape and I am afraid we didn't count anywhere close to 15 shots for LC. We did see a badly called game on the worst playing surface in our District. The LC score was on a good set piece but Day had it covered except for a really bad hop. Come on LC, your team deserves better than that cow pasture for a field. Ugly soccer but hard fought. Congrats to LC. They deserved the win. Is it just me, or has the officiating gotten totally weird this year?
  3. This is an instance that may show how soccer is discriminated against. I'll wager that the tape will show nothing that doesn't happen on evey single play in an American Football game. (If there is even a foul conclusively shown) There needs to be some differentiation between aggression in the course of play and stopping and taking a swing at an opponent. A two game suspension is definitely harsh. Can anyone remember a football player getting suspended for swinging an arm in the course of play?
  4. It should be a great game, and I wish I could be there. This game will determine the standings. Scott County is a game team but they are rebuilding this year so They shouldn't affect LC. Kingston won at SC 8-0 in a game that they kept to a passing drill. The Scott players work hard, though, and kudos to #24. He got an unfortunate red card for a late challenge but he worked the hardest of anyone on his team. There is no slam dunk for the district this year so everyone had better play hard in every game. This is how soccer ought to be.
  5. Rankings are always suspect, but I think you can look at them in groupings and find some meaningful info. The LC Sweetwater game was a shocker until you look at LC's schedule and realize that they have been playing nearly non stop with weekend tounaments bracketing a week of regular season play. I think they were just plaiin tired and East Tennessee is just packed with dangerous teams. The non east team that deserves watching is FRA. All this speculation is fun but we'll all know the answers in a couple of weeks. Bottom line is LC stays in the top five to be respected whether they get a ranking or not. It's a great game! Have fun.
  6. The video shows no contact ever occurred between Day and the Oneida player. The Kingston defender got hammered, however. Oh well! No harm. Good game anyway. Districts await! Kingston beat Gibbs 2-1 tonight in a well fought contest. Gibbs is dangerous. Have fun Thursday if the game is played then. Should be a good one.
  7. Kaz, Check the video! Day's cleat were to the left of the attacker and defender, not in front. His knee is up in the classic keeper position. Lousy call, but there were several both ways. This was the worst, though. Glasd it had no outcome on the game. How did the Gibbs game go?
  8. I must disagree with SassyPants6, the goalie lead with his cleats on the foul that resulted in a PK attempt. It was a dangerous play, and it could have easily injured the Kingston defender as well. Oneida missed a golden opportunity to pad their 1-0 lead at the time.
  9. " Ruben "The Magician" DeAraujo will not get back in time to play for the Indians in their match with Kingston" That's too bad. I hope things went well for him and his family back home. This is a great rivalry! I hope both teams can be at full strength by Districts. It will be a great game anyway, even thought both of them will be missing starters.
  10. "Wouldn't there have to be several modifications including the substitution rule? Without a modification for extra substitutions, the chance of switching is slim and none. " The sub rule has exceptions for lower levels and allows unlimited subs if so designated. Our state orginization gets to choose what rules it will use. We need to push to go FIFA or actually USSF would be the proper designation. Several States already use USSF rules. We need Soccer people making the decisions at our State level. Get behind it and lets get this changed! Call your district Rep and lay the grounwork for next year. I have.
  11. "Also, if you are a high school ref and do not call what the TSSAA says should be a yellow card you should not be allowed to officiate." This comment ignores the fact that TSSAA does not give clear written policy on the foul language call. I am a USSF ref. I don't do TSSAA matches and won't until they adopt FIFA rules. I will not run a DUAL nor will I ever give a football offsides signal. I will card any player who directs abusive language at another person whether any of the seven dirty words are used or not. I do speak to players when I hear profanityas an expletive. That seems to take care of things and we play on.
  12. From the NFHS web site: Profanity – The NFHS Soccer Rules Committee recognizes that many state associations have adopted a zero tolerance policy. The committee continues to encourage each state association to implement policies that address this important issue. Great! Where is the written policy we are supposed to go by? This would seem to say that the policy has to be across the board and apply to all sports. TSSAA could not legally write a policy that would single out soccer. I can't wait to see how many football players get tossed this fall!
  13. The Law says "offensive OR insulting Or abusive language and/Or gestures." I still read that to be directed at someone and not a stand alone expletive.
  14. "Foul and Abusive language" is pretty straight forward now that I think about it some more. It can't just be foul! It has to be foul AND abusive. This would pretty well nail the door shut on the argument that you can card a player just for uttering an expletive. In order to be abusive, language must be directed at a person. It also does not require that an obscenity be used. It is the mean spirit of the language that violates good sportsmanship. As an argument, this one is over. No foul for the word, card for foul AND abusive! Now if we can just get the ref's to read the law. That might be hard since we can't get TK to read the letter clarifying the hands on the back foul. It says very plainly that placing the hands on the back of another player is not a foul unless an obvious push ocurs, but the whistle gets blown time and time again.
  15. "I don't like that they get away with it in the Premier League in England, and I don't like it here. " See the problem with this? You've sanctioned a player and coach for what you think, not what the rule says. The rule doesn't say anything about what words can be said and which can't. It involves invective directed at someone. I think most refs mean well but we need some consistency across the board for all sports. Try this example: A player mishandles a ball in a bad situation resulting in loss of possession and says, to himself, "You sorry piece of dog muffin!" A player gets fouled and turn to the offending player for the other team and says, "You sorry piece of dog muffin!" Go read the rule and tell me what the appropriate action is.
  16. "Soccer should be held to a higher standard " Sorry, that one won't fly! We are talking about a disciplinary situation where the School is involved. TSSAA is wide open to a law suit on this one. A school must hold all of its athletes to an equal protection standard. That means everyone must be treated the same. Some TSSAA refs have an inane read of the foul language rule. I read the rule to state that the foul is "cursing" as opposed to an "expletive". Cursing, as in F___ you, directed at someone should be cautioned. A kid that messes up and utters an expletive directed at no one deserves no such thing. In addition I have seen kids carded who actually never said anything and I have seen the wrong kid on the wrong team carded. That's just ___in' wrong. :>)
  17. Here's the basic unfairness to the red card rule as applied by TSSAA: The acts of unsporting behavior by a soccer player that would bring about a caution would never be noticed on a football field. I have seen players throw a couple of punches and merely be sent back to the huddle. No basketball player that collected five fouls has ever been suspended from the next game as a result. Still having said that, I think the refs don't throw enough yellows! They almost always wait until after control has been lost and are trying to get it back. Those of you who play division 1 club ball know what a good ref looks like. he handles problems early and quickly, often with no more than a smile and a comment explaining the acts that will not be tolerated. Refs don't want to send a kid to a school disciplinary hearing for something that should merely be a teachable moment, so they hold the cards until something egregious happens. Then it's too late. We need to work on this and come up with something that looks like a reasonable solution.
  18. Just to correct the record, the Kingston Sweetwater score was 4-1. Bivens had the score for Sweetwater on a good shot from a difficult angle. Drew McMIllan had three goals against Sweetwater that game. Counting the Redmond tournament, Drew has 19 goals making him Kingston's all time scoring leader. Luck to all! We'll see what really matters at District Touney time.
  19. Thomas Scarborough got his collar bone broken on an evil take down at Beech. He is probably out for a month. They lost another starter for disciplinary reasons. Can the rest of the team step up? They have the talent so we'lll see how badly they want it this year.
  20. It is too bad that Columbia Acadamy and Kingston could not have been at full strength for this game. CA packed it in on defense and had a great counter. The first score was a great shot from outside. The second shot dribbled in, but those count too. The third score was a pk. My stat sheet has 2 shots on goal for CA plus a pk, and ten shots for Kingston. All of them seemed to go right at the Keeper. it was one of those nights for Kingston. Congrats to CA. I have to say, though, that this was the worst officiated game I have seen since AYSO. The whole tournament was that way for us. Good refs seem to go bad the instant they take off the USSF shirt and put on TSSAA. They don't call fouls and they quit giving cards, it seems, except for language. When I get to be King of the world, the first thing I will do is to outlaw the dual ref. T-Bro is off getting xrayed. he'll be out for a month.
  21. Soddy has some good stuff. It will be interesting to see how this game goes. Kingston popped two goals in on Soddy at the end of the game and was glad to get them. Soddy passes well and has some quality players as does Ooltewah. soddy delivers a more sustained attack but its no where near as physical as Ooltewah on defense. Soddy's game is prettier to watch but when the whistle sounds, Ooltewah could be there. The level of our game is going up in east Tennessee so have fun, kids! Wish I could be at this one. I can make no call as to who is better. Play it out and let us know.
  22. I agree that most, but not all, the refs I see in tssaa are ussf also. That is just not the problem. I am pushing for USSF or FIFA rules to be used, not National High School Federation rules as we do now. That would eliminate the two ref situation, which frankly does not work and exposes the kids to a rougher game, much less under control. As far as I know, the only NHSF rule that seems to work better is the cool down substitution for cautioned players. Other than that, let's push to go FIFA! And Refs! Blow that whistle early and often. You can't get control back after it is gone. We had a player commit 9 late challenge fouls against us and never see a card. The only cards we've seen are for language so far. That won't keep the kids safe!
  23. StrYKer31, AC played hard and is improving as they go. It's good to see the support they are getting and they'll be a tough competitor down the road. We're jealous of their new dedicated soccer field, too. I heard the parents built it. Kingston faces some tough teams in their own district, not just Ooltewah. Oneida and Lenoir City could take us down a notch. Let's all work hard and let the results do the talking.
  24. LC09, Please note that I said there were three goals scored. Can't be a tie. Congrats to CAK and LC got game! That's what I was saying. It is going to be a fun and very competitive year in East Tennessee. The soccer crowds seem to be growing every game. Could be that everyone is scouting each other but that's great too.
  25. I'm not proposing TSSAA not register their refs, I am proposing they drop NHS Fed rules in favor of Fifa. That is an option NHS Fed allows so why not use it? It would then be against the rule sto use a dual ref system.
