  1. By all means, Maryville High's Tyler Gaskin. He was the offensive MVP in last year's 4A state champtionship game and then had an outstanding basketball season. He could play either in college.
  2. Monicha? Bill? Rebelman???
  3. Just figured out who MLReb is. Now, if I could only identify Susie, life would be complete.
  4. I agree with everything except the "dominate" part. It has been a while since OR has been dominant.
  5. Too many people are assuming that WB can't play with O.R. IMHO, WB is at least as good as O.R. This is the 2nd worst OR team I've seen in years. They are doing well now because of their schedule. Sure, they played DB, but they lost to a DB team that Graham Clark insists is a year or two off. MHS thumped both in scrimmages. If WB goes into that game BELIEVING that they can win, that game is a W for WB.
  6. I'll lead the plea that there be no little sanchezdirties.
  7. Sanchezdirty: coarse, not course. Sanchezdirty-Dumb, maybe dumber.
  8. Not to worry about that press box thing: I think you've got it locked up. Rumor has it that the dance team (getting jiggly with it) will be named after Jimmy and the concession stand will be named after C.J., right after they start serving Burger King. The one person that you might worry about is the guy that does CMS football games and keeps giving our props to the big BM.
  9. Out of respect, I must say that Morristown West is easily the best 1-4 team in the state. G-Man: What are the details for the dedication ceremony? I've got some pre-game work to do but I definitely want to be there for that one. Mike was a good friend and I've watched his sons grow into fine young men and good coaches.
  10. Ron, you meant to say "Nick Black's team," didn't you? LOL....
  11. Mama Dick, it's not too hard to figure out who I am. If you will get me some names (privately, not on here), I might be able to offer some advice to those youngsters.
  12. Yeah, that's them. They could fly.
  13. Thanks RebelRon for a great post. And double thanks for that right guard selection. I've been around the Rebels since 1982, played against them in '68-'70, watched them close in '74-'75 when they were playing my brother-in-law's Loudon team, then watched them in '77-'78 when I worked at the hospital. I can't disagree with much of what you said. Miles and Oliviera were in a league by themselves back in the early 80's. T.J. would have probably been moved to tackle if Brandon Waters was on the same team, though. Carl Stewart was the best I've seen since Albert Davis, Sr. My brother-in-law had a memorable collision with Danny Spradlin in a playoff game at Everett. They both staggered away from that one. Loudon went on to win the state. Other notables: Toki McCray at quarterback. I thought Scotty Collins was a great all-around player. Ricky Maples was a force. There were two speedsters back in the early 80's that were really effective. I don't remember their names but they were good. I would put Kyle Harris in the mix at receiver. In four years, I saw him drop one pass, an easy touchdown against Greenville in the playoffs. He is one of my alltime favorites. I still thought he should have had a chance to play at least I-AA. Brett McBrayer at tight end was a good one. I'm sure there are more but I've got to get back to work but thanks for an entertaining post.
  14. I can assure you that turtle will get chewed out royally today for his grammatic inepititude. I mentioned to him yesterday to stay off the message boards until his grammar gets better or until he finished Penny Ferguson's class (and you can rest assured that if he takes and completes Dr. Ferguson's class, his grammar will be exemplary).
  15. and turtle and I are going to have an English class this afternoon.
  16. ...and you would certainly know!
  17. Oh, most certainly, my very tall friend. Brown paper and vinegar for an ankle sprain is another one that works well. Or spraying WD-40 on an arthritic joint. Or for migraines three sniff's from a coon's....... ...never mind. And about tonight's games: I couldn't agree more. As for all these naysayers: Let's build a wall on the shores of Lake Loudon, the Appalachian Trail, and somewhere just the other side of Seymour. Just so everyone knows where I stand, I'm for Clemson and everybody from Blount, Sevier, and Loudon counties. And NIN, we're obviously acquainted and I hope we're friends, but don't be so negative. Be like me and love everyone (except UT and Knox Central). BillyGoat: you are obviously from AHS, so you could use some of that Blount County love too. I'll never forget the day that my son showed up at the MHS basketball camp (he was about 12) with an Alcoa cap on and Heritage shorts with a William Blount shirt. He was taught to love everyone and though he wanted to put some serious hurtin' on Mike Fickert one night in '98, they were friends before and they were friends after. Keep writing Susie.
  18. There is some evidence that some supplements and definitely steroids can increase the likelihood of soft tissue damage (tendons, ligaments, cartilage). and what the heck is JohnPaul doing on here and tell me, JP, what YOUR credentials are. I bet I can top them!
  19. IMHO, JPat was only raising a reasonable question. I didn't take offense at it. As someone else said, you could almost see it as a compliment for the program. As to supplements, the main one for the past several years has been creatine. There may be some value in creatine in a very controlled environment. I have always cautioned against use in hot weather, as it may promote dehydration. I seem to recall that pepvol disagrees vehemently, but I refuse to take chances with teenagers. The scary supplement is ephedrine. This one is widespread in its use. It is nothing more than a stimulant and kids know that. They also know that they can purchase it at the local convenience market (yellow jackets, among other names). It has shown to be quite a killer, as with Cory Stringer. There are NO circumstances that ephedrine should be used. As for watching out for your own kids: the signs to watch for with steroid use are a change in personality (usually becoming more aggressive), excess acne (particularly on the upper back), hair loss, and weight gains that seem out of proportion to the amount of work that the kid is putting in. Unfortunately, most parents are the last to know, being too pleased with the enhanced performance that their son is demonstrating. Athletic trainers are taught how to recognize these things and I can tell you that we are constantly on the lookout for those signs. If we see them, we intervene. There is no harm in asking. The real harm is in looking the other way. And without violating confidences placed in me, I will say that steroid use does not seem to be the problem it used to be (say 10 years ago). Kids today are working harder than ever, are better trained, and are better fed.
  20. Susie, you are the most entertaining poster on here. You are da (wo)man! ???
  21. I love to read CoachT but this is the reason that I periodically swear off on it. There are way too many people on here that have done nothing, are nothing, and will never be anything. NIN. You are obviously someone I know. Identify yourself at a game sometime. Yeah, I coached Ricky in AAU basketball. When he was in the 8th grade and we were playing in the state tournament, I told him that he would be a great football player. I'm off. Have fun. Keep writing, Susie; I will read but not post.
  22. Totally unnecessary, billmorgan. Your ignorance of all things football is surfacing.
  23. OH MY GOSH I FIND MYSELF AGREEING WITH NIN!!! Is the world coming to an end? LMAO. Add in the Brackins boys from G-P and Sean Sanderson from Farragut (all went to Michigan). The offensive lineman from OR (his name escapes me) that went to UNC. Tyson Clabo that went to Wake Forest. Ricky _______ from Jeff Co that went to Penn State. Actually, Anderson from AE did sign with UT but I never thought he was a D-1 player. That's another topic. The local kids they did sign but just weren't the ones they should have signed. Paul Monroe from Sevier County is the best example of one they should never have signed. Why did they sign him? Could it be that they caught so much heat for not signing Prugh and Black of Maryville that they wanted to sign a local kid to make up for it? Wasn't/Isn't there a receiver at Farragut that could play? There was a White kid from Webb that has started at UVa. You got me started.
