    All Region

ACCARP Region 1-2A is out as of yesterday, so hopefully region 2 will be out quickly. I'm still waiting on region 1A. Anyone have any word?
  2. From The Greeneville Sun Josh Lott of Gatlinburg-Pittman and Corey Russell of Cumberland Gap were named co-offensive players of the year in the league. Tim Whaley of Happy Valley and Sean Rosenthal of Gatlinburg-Pittman were co-defensive players of the year. Benny Hammonds, coach of league champion Gatlinburg-Pittman, was named coach of the year. 2003 All-Watauga Team Gatlinburg-Pittman: Sean Toomey, Daniel Mitchell, Lugi Recarte, Chris Ogle, Michael Sulton, Joey Cordell and Devin Smith. Happy Valley: Drew Davis, Jordy Harrison, Daniel Dover, Michael Everhardt, Lance Whitehead and Will Lowe. Cumberland Gap: Tyler Francisco, Caleb Medley, Ryan Overton, Andy Edwards and Jed Rowlett. South Greene: Tyler Sauceman, Bruce Wright, Chris Saletto and Clayton Tweed. Hampton: Mitchell Morton, Justin Waycaster and Adam Potter. Chuckey-Doak: Bronson Winters and Chris Blevins. West Greene: Billy Gregg.
  3. Dandy, Mark did attend the same UT camp that Chris Leake was at. Leake was the only player there faster. Mark also intercepted Leake twice in the drills. He has plenty of speed, but I really don't believe in numbers. Performance is what counts. KRP, you may be right about the injuries. But the same could be said about every player that straps on the pads. Don't you think....
  4. Krich One thing I was taken with in our 4 meetings was his presence. He always knows where he is, where the defense is, and makes the right judgement on whether to run or pass. Too many times I watched as his line gave way (no offense to the big guys) and he turned a loss into a touchdown. Hey, my son had to check for his undergarments more than once while attempting to tackle Mark. All kidding aside, he really brings a distinct mental edge to any team he is on. Whoever gets him, will be very fortunate. I know Mark doesn't remember but I met him once on a campus visit, and I was very taken with his intellect and good manners. Not something you see everyday in a teenager.
  5. Not to push, but I really think Mark would make a great receiver at Tusculum. Frankie's offense is very much pass oriented, and Cody Baugh should be the QB next year if everything comes together. Couldn't ask for a much better ball chucker than that. Mark would have the opportunity to be a winner, and put up some awesome numbers with that program. Of course, being close, I'd get to see him play some too..... :justwrestle:

    TSSAA free

Gwave, Who do we send the football players to visit when your lawsuit destroys their athletic program due to lack of funding (they have to save for several years to buy new equipment now)? What is the point of it? It won't change anything about this season except ruin the future of high school sports in Tennessee. I'm sorry, but I see no good coming from all these lawsuits. The settlements will only come from already cash strapped schools, not from any governmental organization. Even if it did, that is only spreading it out to all the citizens of the state. We seem to be teaching our children that if you are not happy with somebody, sue them, they owe you money. They need to learn that the real world is not fair, and sometimes folks make mistakes without malice. I don't know the specifics of the problem, and it really is none of my business or the business of anyone other than the TSSAA, Gallitin, and the family involved. I really do feel for the team, but I see no remedy that will change the outcome of the season, what the record says is irrelevant in the long run.

    Double Play

All's quiet on southern (western?) front, no rumors here. Hope to hear from you soon. And hope the lines keep up the heat! We didn't get quite as much water as you did, but county schools got the day off. Lick Creek (drains the whole western half the county) got a little ambitious and decided to dampen a few spirits last night. Only had to drive about 10 miles out of the way to get home.
  8. cephus, I wasn't trying to say that other states have as many players on their roster as Tennessee has, only that they have some. Also, that the preponderance of their players are from their home state. As far as watching football in other states, Cephus, I played high school football in two other states, Virginia and Louisiana. My brother played in Maryland and Georgia. They play some pretty fair ball there. There are some very talented players that don't get the looks in Tenn that would in other states. That's just the way it is. My team in La, sent 4 to college. Three to LSU and one to Miss Valley State. The three linement that went, were no better, in fact not as good as, some I see in single A ball here.

    Lifting

It was a few years ago, but when Ralph Samson was playing basketball at Virginia, he set the school record in the curl. Outlifting all of the football players. If you remember him in college, he looked like a very skinny stick.
  10. MCTIGER I have to agree with you. UT should do more recruiting instate. Afterall, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU, etc. do very well with instate players, as well as a goodly number from Tennessee over the years.

    Double Play

Hey Creekers Hope you all are okay, I saw footage of some of the flooding in your area. If good thoughts have any weight, you have all of ours around here. Stay safe and stay dry.
  12. If that's the case, then there are a huge number of all state players on small 1A teams with losing records.
  13. krich, I have said before that I think Byrd is the best athlete I have seen at this level. Watching Abney, I think Byrd is faster, roughly the same size, and of the same talent level. If Wooden is better, and I have to take others word for that, he is truely something special. But, wait guys, everytime the threads get started on top athletes, the RBs, QBs, and WRs get mentioned. What about the guys in the trenches, and the linebackers. Those are some of the hardest working troopers out there.
  14. North Greene was really young. Also, several hurt during football and did not play.
  15. Matthew Ormsbee, #87,WR, North Greene 6-1, 180 great hands and not afraid to take the ball away from the defense. If his QB improves next year should be a big one for him. Matthew really came on in the last half of the season, GREAT JOB MATT!

    Long-snappers

That McTillman guy is pretty funny, but what you whackin PETA fer? You some ulra-conservative? If U R I know where i can get you some presciption pills. obviously you been takin' some!
  17. I don't know about the best, but I really liked #50. He plays the position very well.
  18. Fajitas dude! Just take it easy on the tortillas and the meat and stuff is jist fine! My wife does the Adkins thing too, so I get to look for it everywhere I go. Good luck on it, it's done wonders for her. Hope to see you there! Kim, I look forward to talking to you about it. Now that you've bit the bullet and are a plus member, just PM me and we'll convo. You really need to keep an eye on Zach, I was just kidding about filling in with the wrestling, he's a freshman and pretty doggone good wrestler, as was his dad, Bill. Talk to you all later on. John
  19. Sounds good to me Kim, I need it too! ISO9000 audits of my department all week this week! Two days in and I'm about to kill a British so and so..... Ah the joys of international cooperation. And I thought the Dutch, French, Germans, and Koreans were bad. Did you get the boy all visited up and ready to go? I hope so, he's a great kid, (been hearing good things about him behind your back!). Saturday is probably better for me, hows that for everybody else? Oh, Kim, when does rasslin' season start? I have a cousin with a little feller rasslin' for Betsy that I promised to come see play football and couldn't make it, so I want to make sure I get there for at least one match. You might want to look at the kid, names Zach Potter, pretty good lineman filling in his off season with the rasslin stuff. Talk to you all later, John
  20. PUJO, I think you touched on some very valid points in this debate. I can only judge by what I have seen, but it appears to this old country boy that privates do have some advantages. I'm still not sure it that equates to unfair competition. The prime example I have seen personally is with Knox Catholic. Yes, I know they are in DII, but unless I am mistaken the same things can be said of other privates that are not. We played there this year, our boys thought they were on the other side of the moon. Not because they were mistreated, (those are some fine folks down there), but because of the atmosphere. They walked into a facility that rivals Tusculum College here in Greeneville, if not surpasses it. The student body is the same size as ours, but instead of dressing 20-25 players, they dressed 60. Instead of having a coaching staff made up of whoever could be begged to take the job, they had hired the best coaches they could find, and had 3x as many of them. Now, I know the parents came up with all this money, but the wealth of the community was obvious. We pulled in in pickups and older vehicles, and parked in a lot full of brand new SUVs. I parked next to one that cost more than my house, car, and farm combined! Don't get me wrong, I'm not begrudging those young men anything. I think it is fantastic that their parents can do for them all that they do, I just wish I could. I can't help think that somehow having the best facilities, coaches, and support would not attract the best athletes. And that this is responsible for the huge turnaround in that program. I am aware that I am using one school as an example of a group, and that that can be dangerous reasoning, but it is all I have to go on. It also appears that CAK is also on that road with the hiring of the coaching staff. Also, is it true that CAK, Knox Catholic, and Knox Webb are all within 3 miles of each other? If so, sure is alot of football talent in a small area. Like I said, I could be wrong, just my thoughts....

    CLOUDLAND

footballman3 and ??? total lack of class
  22. Alright guys, unexpectedly, it appears we all may have some free time. When we gonna do it? Go to the Mat that is.
  23. Ph and Penny, I want to apologize, I haven't been back to this thread for obvious reasons. I really wanted to calm down alittle before posting again about the game. I'm still upset about the preparation, it has been a major problem for years at North Greene. Penny, I will have a talk with the young man you mentioned, he's very young, but that is not an excuse. Please accept my apologies, no he's not my son (he's #68), but as a parent we are all responsible. PH, I will not condone what #4 did, let me say it's been taken care of, Mama met him as he left the field! BUT, the gesture you mentioned, while deplorable, was the result of an adult not acting like an adult. The gentleman that taunted an already upset child, well.... not an excuse by any means, two wrongs never make a right. I just wanted to add that I've know #4 since he was 5 or 6 and off the field, he's just the kind of kid you'd want to see your daughter with, but on the field, well, Friday was the extreme. He gets very aggressive. Funny how the game can bring that out in some folks. Believe it or not, after the game, he was looking for the fellow he gestured to, to apologize. He really is a good kid, just very, very intense. I really do wish the Oneida fans and team all the best. You are a class act and you will be meeting another I think in Greenback.
  24. Yep, the Indians rolled last night. It wasn't hard for them, they ran basically 3 plays all night. North Greene never made an adjustment. End of story. Basically, I didn't see a huge difference in talent, Oneida was a little faster, but had 2-3 times as many kids (I didn't count them this time). Able to rotate players they kept the Huskies on their heels all night. North Greene's game plan was sound, however execution was not up to par. They fell apart. I'm not going to bash anyone, especially kids, but the preparation for this game was unacceptable in a program that is trying to improve. So much so, the defensive coach resigned at the game last night. He will not be back. The defense practiced one day, Thursday, for this offense, you cannot win like that. I really think the kids have been done a disservice the last while with the lack of support from the top to the bottom at North Greene. It's bad when you play your first ever home playoff game and the visitors have more fans in the stands than you do. Do I sound bitter? Well, it was my son's last game, and to have it so poorly prepared, executed, and supported really toasts my nuggets. I want to say to Oneida, you all are a good, well coached, very disciplined team. I only hope good things for you, good luck in the playoffs, and I hope we meet again next year. To region 2, BRING THE GOLD BALL HOME TO THE EAST!

    South Greene

AC, don't short change the Buffs. They are very streaky, but when on are as hard hitting a team as I have ever seen. In our game, they flew to the ball as no other team we have played, and that includes Cloudland and Catholic. I'm not saying they are that caliber team, only that they can play ball when the motivation is there. They have other problems that limit them terribly.
