  1. I hear that the Devils have a kid who is being looked at by some MLB teams. Is this true and who is he?
  2. Where was Baker tonight??? I'm sure that had something to do with the outcome.
  3. Here are a few other All-Watauga picks that were omitted from the newspaper (due to lack of space): Best Dressed Coaching Staff - Volunteer Best Gym - Unicoi County Best Team Manager - Volunteer Best First Year Coach - Ty Randolph Biggest Disappointment (Regular Season) - Sullivan Central Biggest Surprise (Regular Season) - Happy Valley I guess after naming 60+ players to its' All-Conference team, there wasn't enough space to list these other awards. Come on guys, get serious. Do any of the coaches in the conference really believe that many players deserved this type of recognition?? I have never even heard of some of these kids. Finally, every coach who voted and did not include Joe Brown (Sullivan Central) on their first team needs to have their head examined. He was far and away the best guard in the conference , HANDS DOWN!!
  4. Nice team, but what about Joe Brown from Sullivan Central??? This kid does not get the recognition he deserves. Without him, the Cougars would not have gotten out of the district.
  5. First of all, Chuck Lindholm is the best player in the Watuaga, hands down. As for Chambers, I got the opportunity to see him play last night against Sullivan Central and was very disappointed. I expected much more from him. I am not taking anything away from him, but he was not as good as advertised last night, and SC didn't do anything particular to shut him down. One question I do have is why is Joe Brown not mentioned anywhere in this post. I think Stokomo would agree that this kid can play.
  6. My Top Ten: 1. Lindholm - Volunteer 2. Brown - Central 3. Frazier - Volunteer 4. Minnick - North 5. Shoun - Johnson County 6. Whaley - Happy Valley 7. Dunford - Central 8. Skelton - Central 9. Bailey - Elizabethton 10. Thomas - North
  7. rainman, i know the kid from texas you are referring to....the kid can play, but don't count on him staying at Unaka. he is originally from the bristol area and the talk around is that he and his brother will be going back to that area next year.
  8. Must have been a great game. From what I have seen, Happy Valley may have the most athletic team in the conference. I sure wouldn't want to play them come tournament time. Congrats to the Warriors!
  9. "Downtown" Joe Brown from Sulivan Central. Had 4 3's against Catholic and then lit up North Greene for 7 more. Has NBA range.
  10. I think a lot of people are picking North to finish high due to the fact they are supposed to have a couple of transfers coming in. I heard yesterday that one of them may be ineligible. I see the top four this way: 1) Sullivan Central 2)Volunteer 3) Hampton 4) Unicoi County. Unicoi may start slow, especially if Sparks is out for an extended period.
  11. Is it true Central beat the Hill in a scrimmage Saturday?? If that is so, they may be tough to beat!
  12. brock20, I think you said earlier in the year you were from Central. If so, what do their prospects look like for next year. Any surprises from kids we don't know about, or is life without LeSeuer going to be tough?
  13. First, let me say congratulations to Elizabethton for an outstanding season. You guys were a pleasure to watch. Now, let me state that I am not from Elizabethton, or even Carter County. So, with that said, after seeing both 'Betsy and Unaka play this year, why anyone in their right mind from Unaka would even want to play 'Betsy is beyond me. Unaka had a fine team, but to think they could stay on the floor with the Cyclones is absurd. Next year, maybe a different story. But this year, no way they can stay on the floor with them. It's easy to say that 'Betsy didn't want to play you for whatever reason. But the fact is PLAIN AND SIMPLE, Unaka could not play with them this year. So, get over it.
  14. Scared??? Apparently you are from Central. I could go into a looooonnggg thread about someone being scared of Vince and the Cyclones, but I won't. Johnson County played with more heart and desire than Central did last night. They wanted the game more. Plain and simple. Yes, Central did play bad, but don't you think that JC had something to do with that?? Maybe Central can learn to play the game in hand, and not think about the "next" game. If not, then there is no "next" game.
  15. Good luck LONGHORNS! You really played your hearts out last night. Central did not play well, but the intensity and determination of the Longhorns had a lot to do with that. Their coaching staff did a marvelous job preparing for this game. I think I noticed a hint of the offense that Pittman ran against Central the night before. Cornett played his tail off in every aspect of the game last night. Let's hope that either Betsy or JC can bring a State Championship to Northeast Tennessee this year!
  16. Stokomo...I have personally seen Pigeon Forge play this year and I can tell you that you should have no trouble with them. We all know that at tournament time anything can happen and you can't take anyone lightly, but talent-wise, they can not match up with you. Also, I thought you guys played a good, smart basketball game against Volunteer. Everyone kept their composure! I know I am beating a dead horse, but it is apparent that officials are picking on you. I saw the same thing Coach Whitt saw, when one of Betsy's players gave a hand shake to an official after he fouled out. If I had been Coach Whitt, I would have went ballistic. GOOD LUCK to all the Watauga teams!!
  17. How do the teams in 2-AA stack up with Betsy, Central, Volunteer and Johnson County? Are we headed for another Central-Betsy clash for the region championship, or can someone knock them off?
  18. I agree. From what I have seen so far from JV and Frosh games this year, it looks like Elizabethon will be WAY down.
  19. It would be nice if the District and Regional tournaments were played on neutral floor, but where??? It is an advantage for Elizabethton, but this year's team could play anywhere and win this thing. They are that good (and no I am not from Elizabethton, not even Carter County). The only problem I see with the Watauga is that I am told that the coaches vote on where it will be played each year. This is a distinct disadvantage to Central, Volunteer, and North. With most of the teams in this conference from the Elizabethton area, how many coaches are going to vote to have the tournament at Central, North or Volunteer. Do you think Johnson County would want to travel an extra hour to get to Volunteer? Probably not.
  20. I disagree...I think it is great that Stokomo is pushing his player. It's something more coaches need to do. But, let me reiterate something I've said before about Elizabethton. They have so many weapons that it is scary. You more or less have to pick your poison. You almost have to let someone go. Most teams, Volunteer and Central included, can not stop all of the Big Three (Redd, Lambert, Miller). One of them is going to beat you. But back to Stokomo promoting his player...KEEP IT UP!!! Chucky is a great kid, who comes from a great family. I know it is appreciated. When one has the success that Chucky has had this year, some people (inlcuding myself) will look for weaknesses. Chucky is only a sophomore. He will get better and I know that a lot of coaches around here will lose some sleep over the next two years worrying about how to stop him. As the old saying goes "You can't stop him, you only hope you can contain him"!!
  21. Chucky is the MVP of his team. There is no debating that. Without him, Volunteer would be still be good, just not as good. The true test of how good Chucky is, will not be known until next year. He loses most of his supporting cast. So, can he step up and be a leader in the manner that B.J. Miller is for Elizabethton. Time will tell. I too, saw the same thing that BRock saw. Chucky could have stepped over and attempted to take a couple of charges early in last nights game, but failed to do so. That sort of dissappointed me. You have to be able to do those things. In my opinion, B.J. Miller is the Player of the Year in the Watauga. He is the leader of that team, pure and simple. He makes them go. I am not taking anything away from Chucky, I just feel that B.J. has all the intangibles you would look for when selecting an MVP. Vince will probably get MVP of the tournament, but you take B.J. away from that team, and there is hole there that can not be filled.
  22. My picks from Northeast Tennessee would be the following: Vince Redd - Elizabethton B.J. Miller - Elizabethton Phil Scarcellone - Sullivan North Matt Cornett - Johnson County John LeSeuer - Sullivan Central Matt Dunford - Sullivan Central Chucky Lindholm - Volunteer Daniel Skelton - Sullivan Central
  23. What about 15U and 16U teams. Know of anyone putting something together? I know there is a lot of talent in the area in these age groups as well.
  24. Stokomo, one kid who doesn't get a lot of pub is the Brown kid from Sullivan Central. It would be well worth your time to take a look at him. He can handle the pressure, drain the three and jump out of the gym. The kid can play!
  25. Sounds right on the money to me. One thing though, I was told that Central scrimmaged AE in the preseason and gave them all they wanted. It would be nice to see Betsy and SC go far! Maybe then this part of state would get some RESPECT!
