  1. Now you've got the idea stump! Can you help us out with a ride to the tournament? We asked Rossview if we could ride with them, but they said I had to shake everyone's hand first. So we are still looking.
  2. I told you it was a blind draw! How else would Bundy be seeded 1st at 125?
  3. Delawarr, Just a guess....Brian Dunning?
  4. We are hitchhiking! It's a lot cheaper.
  5. I did not want that format, but lost in the wrestle off. I had to wrestle Hunter Stapp from Montgomery Central to break the tie in votes. He lateralled me in about :40, so we went with the blind draw. The brackets will be on the wall at Creek Wood about 4pm today. I think Johnson is going 52, 60 and 71! He is trying to break the record for region titles in one season.
  6. I already told you. We did a blind draw. There were no seeds. It was Tommy Badon's idea. Makes for a real short meeting.
  7. It is true. He transferred after the state duals. My wife and I opened a boys home and adopted Dunning, Manson, Cleveland and Some kid at 160 from Christian Brothers. We should have an outside shot at winning our region and maybe even state!
  8. Like my high school coach always used to say..."The cream will rise to the top! Put my kid wherever you want!"
  9. No one was seeded in region 7. We decided to do a blind draw of all the weight classes this year.
  10. The thought process is that we do not have a double elimination tournament at state. It is a carry tournament. If you lose in the 1st round the guy who beat you must win his next 2 matches. If you lose in the second round the guy who beat you must win his next match. If you lose in the 3rd round then you will wrestle in the losers bracket against the winner of the 1st 2 guys that lost to the same guy you lost to. Last year is not the only time a mistake has been made with the brackets. I remember when a Springfield kid was not properly seeded and the bracket was redrawn. I believe his name was Brooks or maybe Wells.
  11. I think he meant all 4 years undefeated.
  12. Hey Texter, Nothing has changed. They screwed up in the Davis match. There, you happy? That does not take away from what they accomplished this year. By the way, you are great at pointing out negatives. You know who I am. Care to share your identity?
  13. In our tournament you are only seeded if you are a returning placer and you WIN your region. If you do not WIN your region you are just like anyone else. 32 man bracket carry tournament. 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3 in first round. If you lose to someone they must reach the semis or you are out.
  14. Go ahead and tell them walkenvol.
  15. I want to take this opportunity to congratulate the Franklin Rebels on winning the state duals. You guys are a class act. Wrestlers, students, parents(99%), and coaches. From the first tournament this year (Kenwood Klassic) up until now I must commend you all on a great season. Coach Gillespie, you are the man. Your team reflects the goodness that you have in your heart. Coach Welder, I don't know you, but you seem very intense and must be a great technician. Congratulations to both of you. I would also like to congratulate John Hill who is a huge part of this state championship puzzle that Franklin put together. I know you are proud of these guys even though you are not in the spotlight. You can enjoy it in your heart and anyone who knows anything about Tennessee wrestling knows what a great impact you had on this championship season.
  16. What wrestler was ranked #1 in his weightclass as a junior, weighed in for his post-season tournament, then went for a motorcycle ride, had a wreck and broke his legkeeping him out of the state that year? By the way, he won it as a senior and is still very visible on the wrestling scene today.
  17. I believe that tradition will end after this season. Now for the answer...GP West started it. He had an exchange student from another country who wrestled in his native land. When he came to GP's team he did it and explained that it was tradition where he came from. So GP started having his kids do it and there you go.
  18. Ron Vacchione, Kenwood, never won state. 4th in 2000. Loved wrestling. Wanted to continue. Went to Apprentice school in VA. Became a 3X All-American (NCWA). He is now the assistant coach at the school and loving it. His Ex-head coach, Mike Clayton, is now coaching Phillip and Patrick Simpson at Army. Not everyone seeks to be "wealthy." Some are just content to be regular old guys who love to wrestle. It is not always about what something will lead to or whether you can go pro. It is the love of competition and the satisfaction of knowing that you are competing in a grueling sport with the best competition available to you. Have you ever heard, "It's not the destination, but the journey that counts most?" I believe that it is a credit to the individual who continues to work his tail off and compete knowing that there is no NBA waiting when he graduates.
  19. OK..After seeing the state duals I will fudge a little. 140 Creagan, he looked awesome against Felix. If Johnson can go 52 he should, because he cannot beat Borneman. Johnson is still my pick if he goes 52. 189 Meredith 215 Weakley if he goes here. I believe he will, but do not know.
  20. Franklin couldn't because they have no 103.
