  1. When I went to school there (CHS) we had a good student section. Win or lose. Fun times. Another rival school in the distrct tried to mirror us and even came up with a silly name for themselves. "The Super Fans". They were nothing copared to us. We didn't need a name. lol Anyway....I'm glad to hear they've carried on the tradition. I guess I'll find out tonight how this year's bunch is fairing. And since when is Maryville good at something other than football?
  2. I heard Clarksville High lost to Brentwood 8-0 this week! Man what has happened to them? I don't recall a CHS team ever losing to anyone that badly. Not any recent team anyway. I'm not even sure the first team they ever had lost that badly but I may be wrong. The most lopsided losses I remember were 4-0 or less. No matter how good the team they were playing was. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.
  3. As a CHS graduate (1996) I'm excited for cats. They have had plenty of good teams in the past that didn't make it this far that probably should have. That happens to many teams in all sports. Things happen along the way that make it so difficult to make it to the finals. You could have the best team in school history and still stumble along the way and watch a lesser team pass you by. That's why I'm making myself go to Murfreesboro to watch the Cats because it might not happen again for a long time. Plus they were eliminated in the first round of the state tourney my senior year by eventual champion Memphis East despite having more talent which included two current NBA players Sean Marion and Trenton Hassell. They were eliminated in the same fashion the following year by the eventual champion Cleveland, and still had Trenton Hassell as well as some other good players, so I think the fans here are more than ready for the Cats to finish the job this time.
  4. I'd have to agree that CHS would have been a much better team if those guys hadn't decided not to play, quit, got kicked off, or whatever. I'm still trying to find out exactly what happened with that and how many players were involved. So far the only thing I've heard that isn't completely vague is "they were fed up". Coach Donahue calmed down over the years. There was a dramatic change in him in the mid 90s. I was a part of the teams that experienced this. My class was probably the last group to fully experience the old Donahue that would run us for 2 solid hours for playing like crap the previous day's game against a high ranked team he was wanting us to compete with or beat. We'd be running laps after games we had won for playing bad or for each shot taken that didn't require the keeper to touch the ball. That may happen once in a while but not like it did back then. I know our opening of the season conditioning was heck compared to what they do now. Knowing this I'm hoping that those guys were fed up with him for being too hard on them. If that is the case then I'd have to say that kids these days are sissified. As hard as it was we never had anyone quit because they couldn't handle it. I also agree that CHS and Northeast would be rediculously good if Kenwood and Rossview hadn't opened. But then they'd also be over crowded. I'd still like more details on why all those guys didn't play this year. Anyone know?
  5. Been a long time since Clarksville has been an underdog to win the district. I cant remember the last time they lost to a district opponent. I seem to remember a tie but that was maybe in 96 or 97. If I had to bet on it I'd say Clarksville would lose one or two district games this year (at worst) and bounce back in the tourny and win it. That's because NO team works harder on conditiong than Clarksville. Or at least that is how it used to be. Maybe things have changed. Rossview could have beaten Smyrna 4-0 but that doesnt mean Clarksville wouldnt be able to come back later and beat Rossview. 1994: Clarksville beat undefeated Henry Co. 2-0. Henry County later beats district top seed Northeast 7-3. Then later Northeast beats Clarksville 4-1 (and was the last time they beat them). Then Henry Co. avenges the lost to Clarksville in the district tourny semi 2-0 (at Henry Co. and sometimes that DOES make a huge difference). So you see none of the "they beat them 2-1 and then lost to those guys 1-0 that beat them" matters. You want a more recent example? Last season Galitan beat Clarksville mid season than Clarksville drilled them in the region tourny.
  6. I didn't hear about that. What happened? There have been very few players quit on coach Donahue during his career there. Plenty did during preseason conditioning in the old days (which would erase the need for an actual tryout) but VERY few have quit once the season started. I wouldn't expect them to drop to much but yeah Rossview has a shot. I'd like to hear the story behind them quiting.
  7. So far Rossview opening hasn't had much of an an affect (if any) on CHS. Rossview took some students from CHS when it opened but the bulk of them came from Northeast. I'd like to see a rematch between CHS and Smyrna. It could happen in the regionals. I heard they played pretty poorly in the second half. CHS will get better just like most other teams in the state. CHS's problem has always been that they could win the district easily but when they played in the regional they would always stumble. Maybe a little more competition in the district would help them in the regionals. I'd say history actually does have a little bit to do with the outcome of the season. I'm sure coach Donahue builds on the fact that they have won so many district titles. The team is probably reminded of it quite a bit. If not every day.
  8. Clarksville will probably win it. They've won the district ten years in a row starting in 1995 and had won it in 87, 88, 91, 93 prior to that. There were some pretty average teams there and also some teams that were really good. They haven't really been challenged since 1994. I'd like to see how Rossview does against them this year. The district has always been pretty weak. Northeast is the only other team to have ever won the district and believe me CHS was capable of beating those teams despite being the weaker teams CHS has ever had. CHS was the 5th seed one year and still won the title. CHS is always conditioned well and pretty hard nosed physically. They've always been able to compete with just about anyone regardless of how much talent they have.
  9. Anyone seen Clarksville play? They are 13-0 and their schedule is weak but sometimes that doesn't indicate how good they actually are. It may, however, hurt them if they do make it to tourney play.

[Accordint to soccerinfo.com CBHS last played ECS and won and the game was listed as the state final. The final polls for last year don't have them at #1. soccerinfo.com

    CBHS

I am living in Texas now and missed out on the past 2 seasons of boy/girls soccer. I usually try and follow things but occasionally I miss things. I noticed CBHS was probably the best team for the guys in 2004 yet they weren't state champs. What happened. They get in trouble and are the girls affected?
  12. Here in Clarksville The Leaf-Chronicle, or the "Laugh Comicle" as it is also known is pretty much on the same level as the papers mentioned so far. It usually sticks to minimul coverage but when a team does well, which has really only been Clarksville High over the years, they'll jump right on that bandwagon and the next thing you know they'll have articles on the front page of the sports AND main page like they did last year all through the post season leading up to the finals. It's amazing how people percieve soccer in this country. They think soccer is some easy sport for sissy's and that not many people play it or want to watch it when in reality it has been proven to be the second toughest sport physically to endure behind dirt bike racing and right up there with basketball as the most common played sport by youths. So what gives?
  13. Whats up with soccerinfo.com? It is always inacurate when posting the results of games, sometimes WAAAAY off, and there are always several games missing from many of the teams" schedules. And how do they come up with their top 11?
  14. Those of you saying Farragut and Bearden are virtually invincible and that they can pack their bags for the finals better watch out. I've seen this exact same thing happen to better teams than either of them many many times and guess what....they packed their bags alright....but for an early trip home. Forget all the scores against "common opponents" and all the "they beat so and so who beat them who beat them worse", etc., cause it doesn't matter. You have to consider not only how hard a team plays against you but most importantly how one team matches up against you strategy wise compared to another. For example... Farragut may beat a team 11-0 that Father Ryan (just an example) only beat 4-0 but when Farragut plays Father Ryan it could be a tight game. I've seen this happen so many times. So maybe some people out there shouldn't be so sure of themselves when picking who makes the finals.
  15. When I played Brentwood's field was right up next to the school between it and the football stadium. It sucked.
  16. Hendersonville is my pick. They are always ready to play in the post season. They could finish the regular season 0-18 and still make it deep in the post season. Must be something in the water there in May. I refuse to buy into this "farragut is unstoppble" B.S. so I predict Hendersonville or maybe even someone else could "surprise" Farragut. But then again...still no garauntee that Farragut will make it to the final. I've seen bettr teams get upset along the way over the years so don't pack your bags yet Farragut fans.
  17. Cant stress how important blocked PKs are enough. Just ask Clarksville High. They were upset by Gallitan and eliminated by a blocked PK during a shootout in OT in the region finals in 2001 and were at the very least the second best team in the state that year (except that night). It was their only loss that year. Then they won the region last year against Gallitan (revenge) in the same manor. More importantly though.....Bearden blocked a Clarksville high penatly kick in overtime of the state finals last year that would have put CHS up 4-2 and more than likely would have been the game winner for CHS.
  18. i never played on Hendersonville's field but we played on Brentwood's every other year. I remember it being too narrow. On end went down hill it seemed and the turf was always terribe.
  19. The purpose of soccer is to put the ball in the net...not out shoot or out possess the other team. Shots "ON GOAL" mean nothing unless they go in and the better team, on that particular day or night, will take advantage of the oppurtunitys more often then the other team. I recall many, many, many games when I played where we were outshot and out possessed but we won anyway. You have to take advantage of the opportunitys you are given or that you create for yourself in order for them to matter. THe object of the game is to score more goals....not look the prettiest.
  20. So has any Tennessee teams played Parkview this year? I noticed that they were supposed to have played Hendersonville but didn't because it was cancelled. That might have been a good game.
  21. Wow that sucks. Explain how that game went down. I wasnt' able to read about it in the paper.
  22. Brentwood has been a thorn in Clarksville's side every since they first started up the soccer team in the early 80's. It's been a VERY long time since Clarksville has beaten them. The last time they beat them was before any of the current players were born. There was a tie a couple of years ago but other than that it's been all Brentwood. Brentwood handed them their first and only loss of the season leading up to the state finals last year but it was the first game of the season. Brentwood and Hendersonville have always been a thorn in their side but they finally got over the Hendersonville jinx a few years ago but still have a long way to go before they even that series as well as with Brentwood. What might help Clarksville though is the fact that they are playing them later in the season. They used to always play them the first or second game of the season. Maybe having 14 games under their belts will help. Hopefully anyway. I always liked Brentwood. They are always pretty classy and have never been all cocky and arrogant and don't play dirty.....unlike a few other top ranked teams out there. I'm not making a prediction on tonights game. If it were the normal early season matchup then I'd pick Brentwood but it might be different this year. I am for Clarksville though.
  23. Clarksville 4 Huntsville, AL 2 Clarksville 4 Bob Jones, AL 0
  24. The coach for Clarksville High (Dave Donahue)is one one of the best. Definately in the top 5 at least. He is close to 300 wins right now and is in his 21rst year of coaching this year. No state titles but what does that matter? He coached them to state runner-up last year and finished ranked 2nd in the state and 25th in the country and gave the eventual 7th ranked team in the country (Bearden) their toughest game of their two undefeated seasons. Has won 11 district titles and last season's title was the 8th in a row. Has won several region titles. Has coached many teams with little talent that ended up winning district titles and even won the district title in 1993 even though the team was the 5th seed. Has been one of the most winningest coaches in Tennessee history since 1995 and has NEVER had a losing season since his first year in 1983. He did all this in what used to be considered the toughest region in the state. He would tell anyone that his players were due all the credit but anyone that played for him knows he plays more of a part than he gives himself credit for.
  25. Final was 2-1 in favor of Clarksville. Wasn't there and have no info but I can tell you, based on how they traditionally do when they cream everyone they play and then finally get tested, that they probably could have done much better than 2-1 even though they played the 11th ranked team tonight. If anything...they really needed this game. I except them to do better than that next time they are tested. Based on tradition anyway.
