  1. The Tony Poll rates this Friday's match up: National #3,Independence (60-game-streak) vs. National #6, Richmond County. Ironically, unapproved website.com has Independence the National, #71, and Richmond County a distant National, #261. Congratulations to Montgomery Bell, #22,#25, etc., Tennessee's finest (and darned, pleasant posters, year-long on this site).
  2. ALLAROUND, Good job, you deserve a big, tender, juicy stake! Excellent point re: these message boards, i.e. 90% is simply saber rattling. Someone needs to address the "Why" of diminishing fan support (cf: "crowd" at MBA/BA)...If one puts a quality "product" on the field, "They will come," e.g. at last year's De LaSalle- Long Beach Poly game, 1:00pm PST Saturday, Giants were playing NLS game, Stanford had PAC 10 opponent in Palo Alto, San Jose State had quality opponent, and HS game drew almost 20,000.
  3. Gee, Too many burger joints! The state has only 5,689,283 (SF Bay Area has 6,783,760). Cut the playoffs to 16 teams: Catholic, private, public--one Champ, like old times. Let natural rivals play an eleventh game, or if someone desires to take on Kahuku or Miami Senior let 'em do it, pre-playoff...stop paying for pencil pushers/admin. (40% of every healthcare dollar is spent on non-patient treatment), spend the money on the coaches and players. I'd rather see Lincoln Cty. take on Long Beach Poly (after the boys do Disneyland and Rodeo Dr.) Filet Mignon CBHS v. Riverd', MBA v. Frankl', G'toxn v. Hunting', BA v. Hillsb', Melrose v. Dickson C, Linc. C. v. Xhitehaven, Milan v. McCallie, Xhite Sta. v. Brent' Hey, RollRed,Good call on Independence: it slipped by me, #215. Last time I talked to Ned, SC vs. NC discussed, and he liked NC football...should see if streak survives on 11/28 vs. Richmond Cty.

Roll, Pittsburg (7-0-1) is tough...but, I think the Spartans can go undefeated. DLS's final foe in the playoffs is ususally San Leandro (33-3 over the last three years--guess about the losses), but they are having a bad year. Oddly, St. Francis may have been the toughest opponent on DLS's schedule (I hate SF). Don Bosco, I sax Sat, should have been the first DLS game of the season, but negotiations broke as financial crisis hit California. You should go to a playoff/ season like California--it'd end all this Catholic, private, public yapping here. You should see Los Gatos, a public school, hammer those big-time Catholic schools of the Silicon Valley (St. Francis). Boys, let's go to Miami this Fri. to see some football, have a beer?

MBA Alum, SD football didn't really compare to the Mater Dei/Poly, mid/late-90's LA teams. The '95 DLS team my 10th favorite of the streak might have been vulnerable, although the '96 my third favorite and I think maybe one of the best all-time...check their scores on delasallesports. 1999 finished 3rd in the Nation and I thought underrated. The truly great teams have 5,6, or 7 legitimate D1 players per year (not Cal Poly, Davis, Middle Tenn. State) and most start immediately, e.g. Maurice Drex at UCLA.

Truthfully? Or CoachT-party line? Extremely disappointed in the MBA/BA game: MBA lost the high national ranking--although I think USA Today quite "generous" at # 25...strangely Trinity's resurgence may be the real issue. MBA had not improved from the game I caught: their blocking and especially, tackling, atrocious. Their unrelenting pass rush versus Trinity, not there. BA ran the ball like a Texas team or DLS. The attendance at the game: terrible...in SC that'd been 15,000, given the magnitude of the rivalary. Gee, I love you guys and the passion you and "The Reds" bring here, but more bodies in the stands, please? The TV announcing stunk--as said here. Almost as bad as Amani T. phone-job in ESPN's AC/DLS. Bad snaps on critical punts, missed short FG's, questionable play calling/QB decision making. The polls have discrepancies that I cannot understand: Palm Bay, Summerville higher than Byrnes, GA teams too high, CO and AZ represented and Texas underrepresented, Kahuku on some, off others. Bottom Line: Texas Reg.ll, Dist. 11--should produce National Champ even though multiple loses. One game versus DLS if you need a loss. Make a Point to Reappoint the Disappoint. GO BA, GO MBA--Top 20!

I really don't think Texas 5A Region II, District 11'd mind playing a Super 7...It'd be a nice "break" from having to play each other at least 2 times, someone three times...Lufkin, Tyler Lee, and Longviex the #2,6, and 11 teams in the NATION....Just the opionion of a De LaSalle fan (realizing his team is not that good), and after seeing MBA in person (Trinity) and on TV(BA), and three Texas Region ll games.
  8. RollRed, 63 points...St. Joseph hadn't lost...pretty impressive. Remember my post Re: Hoover and MBA matchup being lousy 'cause it'd never end: Ned has MBA-Hoover tied! at 51. You think you have it tough losing the #9: I'm on the Atkins Diet! Go Spartans! Apply for membership in Texas HS Football.
  9. RollRed,Did you get your costs out of sale 13-year-old car? Cover green fees on Oregon Coast? ...So disappointed in Friday night game! At least Pope Don Bosco still likes to run up the score(my Sat. game). Something is terribly remiss at Tyler HS: only team in their Reg./Dist. not rated in Top 12 NATIONALLY.
  10. Thanks, WesThe CCS game in Atlanta should be MBA/BA based on the strenght of both, so I'll do the TV, too. I found it ironic a Midtown Manhattan hotel less than the English Manor on Murray Lane. (Catching Don vs. Jose, tomorrow in NJ) Enjoy the game. GO SPARTANS!
  11. ...Sounds like the best game in the South (sorry MS)! Anyone have a recommend for a bed and breakfast in the immediate area of the game? Hash-house-TN-sausage-greasy-spoon for breakfast? Thank you
  12. http://www.bayarea.com/mld/cctimes/sports/...ool/7094223.htm AaaaaaaHhhhhhh
  13. BUD,8pmEST, ESPN 2 "I happen to feel that the degree of a person's intelligence is directly reflected by the number of conflicting attitudes she can bring to bear on the same topic." Alther "Difficulty, my brethren, is the nurse of greatness--a harsh nurse, xho roughly rocks her foster-children into strength and athletic proportion." Bryant Good luck vs. CC/SH/5A GO SPARTANS--Pass Rush, Pass Rush, *&%$#Pass Rush!
  14. Hi, Wes Thanks for the kind words the other day. Don't forget the 8pm ESPN 2, DLS vs. ECA. See a Nashville game, but have a sports bar or hotel tape it. Ned, at unapproved website.com has it 31-17. DLS has had only 4 games in "The Streak" decided by less than 10. Good match up: South vs. West. EC can beat the Spartans if QB, Lupino, forgets he has the 12 yrs. of peer pressure on his shoulders. Also, check out Jackie Bates, #22 DLS, and #70 ECA, 6'8"/325 Soph! Thanks again. GO SPARTANS.
  15. Great posts/Great Tradition/Great players....Any of you guys (or your grandfathers) see Chris Bond (TB) or Tim Grissel (FB) run the single xing? Supporting cast tough, big, complete ALL in 1963!!! Great looking, innovative uniforms for "The Stone Age." ...Got game films vs. DB, '63 (26-0) and '64 (0-13) if you're interested...don't even need 16mm. ...Think Cat's part of my joint pain. GO SPARTANS. 4 games in 144 streak decided by less than 10 points; 44 shutouts; 178-1 since '89.
  16. Hi Red, Got a Restitution Hearing in SLC, Friday...early start, 5PST,.. may make it tough. Pleasanton (Diablo Valley) is closest to SJO. As I stated, I'm getting "antsier" each day--it's hard seeing on TV. Ned (unapproved website.com) has it 35-17, up from 35-7. I caught the 2 EC loses and I think "heart" is an issue. I marvel at the DSL coaches ability to find holes and adjust at half. Parker Hanks reminds me of MBA #47. I'm sure you've experienced the game face/pre-game "jitters" pre-MBA big one (enjoyed Brandon's comments here today, another "non-candy-coater). This year's DLS schedule is too light, probably because John Bosco (NJ) rumored/sought for first game of season didn't materialize. Losses at DLS are like event horizons: meteor crashes, Nikkei turning up, customer service improving, dentistry getting cheaper. The loss to Pittsburg in Dec.'91 didn't have the pathos of "universal disruption "(Oakland Colesium), but in 1989 at St. Francis, last Qtr. played at such a frenetic pace (DLS trailed), that as game ended and loss evident, players slumped to ground in clusters of 2 and 3, took a knee, and JUST STAYED THERE! ...Sorta spouse/Grandmother dying-feeling. Maybe...too passionate...but the mountains and moon could be accused of being too phlegmatic. Run the Table, Red, and GO SPARTANS!
  17. Very interesting, complimentary, but thought provoking article in Monday's ContraCosta Times Re: ECA, particularly Coach's last quote. http://www.bayarea.com/mld/cctimes/sports/...ol//7057693.htm STATS Ned and Eric do a tremendous job at unapproved website.com! All 15,000 scores collated, posted, parsed. 2 guys! Ned teaches HS math and philosophy--must be an exestentialist. I would be very interested in some back-testing to see how accurate his predictions are; given the parameters he uses, I'd lay the lumber on him being in the ball park, if not spot on 75%. FYI, 56% Winners allows one to live off the House. SPATS When ECA takes to the artificial turf at Diablo Valley CC, they will wear turf shoes I think for the first time. Given their oppensive scheme, "Freight Train Henry," and a plethora of small, quick receivers, but a rather "lumbering" corps of linebackers and OL, DLS's speed may overcome the 50-60lb./man weight advantage. Personally, I'm suffering form what now has become the yearly bout of "Poly-Sissy-itis:" QB Lupino's "head not into the game/Int's.," possible absence of Jackie Bates's, 4.37, and the Spartans' propensity to put the ball on the carpet. See your game at 7:30, but set your Tivo, VCR for ESPN2 at 5:00EST. CATS I would like to thank WillietheWildcat for such kind words the other day. Your benchmark history speaks for itself, but in '63 and '64, you guys were GODS. 1 and 1 against you and ###### lucky. Where are Chris Bond and Tim Grissell? GO SPARTANS!
  18. Gee, anyway I can get the ink on my HS diploma changed to "MBA"...kinda like the good people from there AND they have a terrific team? I owe you both a Deschutes, Mirror Pond in Sun River. GO BIG RED AND ESPECIALLY THE TEAM PLAYING THE #3 LA.
  19. Vols, BigRed, et. al. thanks for the kind posts. Tell RollRed, Sheldon had close call vs. Marshfield (Pre's HS) on Friday. BTN and CoachT, I really don't see much SC football, nor do I have an opinion Re: all of SC vs. TN, or read a SC site--all I said, after seeing Byrnes offense, I thought anyone, including Summerville, and MBA should have a difficult time stopping it. I did catch the NC/SC Shrine Game last year and enjoyed Leaks performance. As a sophomore, in Hickory, I entained playing in that game at one time. I have seen Lufkin, Longviex, Lincoln, DLS, MBA, Trinity, Hoover, Brookxood, Valdosta, Lennox, Independence, and EC (2 times). Polls are difficult to gague, but on-site sorta puts a face on the name, if you understand. Lastly, Quacko, I don't have the time or energy to read your posts: they don't have much substance and your name calling, small-time exclusivity, denial of simple facts: #1839 in the Nation, etc. is a little trite. I realize you took the time to look up my photo in the DB '64 Year Book (the '65 is a little more photogenic), and I suppose I should be flattered. I'd suggest you ask Coach Clark or his brother Re: my "history," and physical demeanor. Your on-field announcer or anyone attending the 1999 DB-Heritage game half time honorary for the Great 1947 and great 1964 LAST State Champions could help you "resolve" some of your "issues." See you after the SH game? After all this: GO SPARTANS.
  20. Quacko, ...only people that have a relatively small perspective on a broader topic. One need only apply the same exclusive "logic" to government, pollution, human rights, freedom of speech, etc. MBA, CBHS, Riverdale, BA, and the great, half century teams of Oak Ridge have and continue to represent Tennessee admirably. I'm reasonably sure that if MBA finishes in the top 10 nationally, they'll relish that accomplishment, maybe even more than a top finish in their respective division in Tennessee. If anyone is offended by the candor I post, I humbly suggest he just continue to scroll the page. As far as having my character exposed or assaulted, I'm sorry if you feel it's necessary, but that's not the first time (I played versus Chat. Central), and probably not the last.
  21. DLS versus ECA at 8pm EST Cameron Colvin, DLS's best wideout and "shut-down-corner" is back from academic suspension, now if Jackie Bates returns at tailback, EC will have the daunted task of facing a Longview AND a Hoover. ...Lucky enough to catch SC #1, Byrnes, Duncan vs. #5 Dorman, Spartanburg last night. 15,000, great crowd. Lots of playmakers on both sides of the ball. Both previously undefeated, Dorman was more polished, but Byrnes, supposedly "rebuilding," spread the field, made lots of athletic plays. Too many turnovers for both sides. (Byrnes led ECA at the half last year in Shreveport, only to lose by 10. EC did not reschedule--something is just not right with EC--check out Longview/EC message boards: not a lotta love.) The "Tony Poll" seems to think Summerville, the best SC team, but all roads to State Championship go through Duncan. I don't think MBA could defend them. Lufkin is the top team in the Nation, sorry, Union. Richmond and Camden Counties waaaaaaaaaaaay overrated: Independence will blast RC, and GA is owned by greater Atlanta: PV, BW, SG. Lincoln finally lost the close one. Spartans may be waiting for TV to make their move. 144 is now twice the previous HS record for consecutive wins, although DLS coaches and staff did not mention "The Streak" post-game...just compliments for the easiest team they've faced in years. ALL CLASS.
  22. Idiot? Please crossreference you/my posts. I thought I'd demonstrate a little sympathy, sportsmanship, etc. Let you off easy, kinda "Old School." BUT...your last post.... The # 220 beat the # 40. ZZZZZZZZZZZZ! TOTAL VALIDATION...no, Quack, you're the idiot. ...Be glad to meet you personally to "resolve" the issue...maybe be the father you evidently never had.
  23. QUACKO, Another off-peak night at the Blountville Shoney's? I had hoped to set a journalistic example, considering the plethora of tripe you post here.... I realize your hillbilly perspective and the 1st Amendment let's you make up the lack of intellect in volume.
  24. ALL THIS BRAVURA from the #40Team in TN??? Trying to rub it up the noses of the TN #220! Dobyns-Bennett has played the #'s 1707,2317,6513,6701,10338,11240,&12323 BEST TEAMS IN THE NATION (out of approximately 15,000). I fail to see simply adding the #9,614 best team in the Nation is a cause de celebre! Look, turn off the HYPE. Georgia'll demolish Vandy, but Coach Ricks/Team says stuff pre-game like, "Great special teams," or "Excellent run-to-pass-ration;" not all this J.V.'ll finish the game HYPE. I feel for the team; they're being misled. Sure O.R. and Jeff. County are good opponents, maybe even, S.H, but come playoff time, the kids are "set up" for the usual exit, because Friday-in-Friday-out, seven bottom-third of the Nation doesn't get you ready for the Riverdales, Germantoxns, You-name-its. Of course, the team doesn't have any say Re: opponents. FYI, that's the same as 1964. My team "needed" an 11th game to validate outselves (eliminate any doubt), eg. rematch versus Chat. Cent., Maryville, Jackson, Memphis Catholic, the stupid coaches didn't give it a thought. But, in this age of "diluted" student bodies, i.e., larger schools doxnsized, or split like Morristoxn, AND all the classifications: religion, ain't got religion, money, ain't-got-money, 100 boys, 1500 boys, etc., one has to "jump" the Head Coach first (he's a great guy), then the darned Administrators to assure the players a challenge 8-13 times, and fans something to relish, not just gloat over a bloated record of cream puffs before an inexplicable early or embarassing exit from the playoffs. Don't go nuts at the first like Evangel Christian, scheduling 5 State Champions. Get one great one the fans can look to: Independence, Charlotte; a Lynchburg team; a big name Georgia team. A couple more in state or close. Your last state championship is almost 40 years passando!!! No one in Georgia, North Carolina, or the rest of the Southeast is familiar, remembers DB. Don't dilude yourself into thinking they do. All this HYPE is offensive, especially to your opponent (and to anyone possessing a bull-*&^%$ detector).
