  1. BUD, tommillion__99@yahoo.com chess-site. After 3:35pmEST or www.chessanytime.com (picupndropov). Ping me at aptosh@aol.com (nothing like a tune-up pre-7:30)! tjm
  2. BUD, I'll play YOU a game of Chess. You represent DB, I'll represent DeLaSalle. That is of course, if YOU (DB) can still afford the 32 pieces and board and you don't have to travel to play someone good. If you cannot afford (i.e., the "gate" is thin, then "schedule" some of these "Baseballers" currently posting). FYI, '63--Hazard,KY, Roanoke, Jefferson; '64--Chattannoga twice overnight, Rome,GA; '65--Linchburg, VA...someone picked up the overnights/bus. Just "Gettin' on my game-face." Go Spartans blow the Chieftans out." Win #140 (and 34 before loss to Pittsburg in '91).
  3. De LaSalle's opponent Friday is Palma Hi of Salinas. #19 in CA, but on paper looks like their modus operandi is to run the ball...maybe "played possum" vs. Alisal, Friday, but unidimensional vs. Spartans just doesn't get you to break even at the quarter. Palma's nickname is "the Chieftans:" not Indians, think, "Braveheart." So there's a kilted guy on the sideline playing the #@*&^%bagpipes the entire game! By the 3rd Qtr...you'd pay good money to get in on a punt, pass-rush, flag route--truly nerve jangling, fingers-on-the-blackboard. Bottom line: 140
  4. RollRed, Sorry for the rather evasive post: EC played and "handled" Live Oak, FL, Friday. The game vs. Long' is this Friday and my most probable trip, although I hate Shreveport (GA does play at LSU this Sat.) Long' beat EC last year and EC's site makes much of a spot in the 3rd Qtr. that determined the game. In 20+years of DLS football, I've never heard the referee-"doggie ate my homexork" excuse. If I read correctly Rockhurst DID lose in MO, if so, they are EC's next opponent and could soften EC's run to artificial turf of Diablo Valley CC on 10/24. After Rockhurst, EC plays Hoover of Birmingham (they beat H in 7 on 7). As I said previously, Palma of Salinas is DLS's opponent and Palma brings it...I remember a game in '95ish vs. Los Gatos (one of my 10 fave's), Palma played the 2nd half inside LG's 10 yd. line and still lost). The "action" in TN is rather "dilutive" as big names lose...actually hurts MBA's chances to move up. Lincoln of Tallahassee plays Valdosta Friday and are 1 or 2 pts. apart. 21-21 last year. Changed coaches...gave this guy a SUV on four-year-lease: no pressure to get the program back to 1980's form. Hugh upset by Val' in 2001 (on 9/11/01). ...Most unusal thing I caught in IL: Southhurst in Central IL is nicknamed the "Rebels," mascot: "CSA-uniformed-Rebel," Confederate Flags, Song: "Xaiting on Robert E. Lee," mural of CSA battle on school side...forfeited flag game previous to action vs. Fri. opponent because "flags" CSA...AND, the school is 90% Black!
  5. First, Parkview, now EC. Wasted a perfectly good Friday in IL (68-0, New Lenox)...shoulda gone to LA, Orlando, stayed home, or Honolulu. MBA ain't gettin' much local "respect," are they (polls)? DLS beat Mitty (coach for Mitty scored 38 TD's and gained 2000 yds. his senior year at DLS (1992)...without J. Bates and C. Colvin (both timed -4.4). Mitty had won previous week 42-0. DLS is 223-4 since 1982--how old were you in 1982? Lots of crazy "action:" Union wasting Jenks, combacks by ranked teams.
  6. ROLLREDROLL, HS FOOTBALL is just a hobby...actually if I had my druthers, I'd like to be the guy who sits in the top of the Sands or on Captiva making the weekly HS line. I'm currently in the Apple Outlet on Michigan Ave. in Chicago awaiting the New Lenox (Providence) game tomorrow night (USAToday #16 and '02 IL, 6AChamp). My girlfriend drug me up here--my preferred weekend would be in Tulsa for Jenks's resurrection vs. Union; or Lincoln vs. Edgewater (there's a wonderful bistro right across the street from EHS that did me right, post-Eagle defeat of Palm Bay (Melbourne,FL). I saw the Trinity game (for all you Parkviewers, I wore Rivera's #32 game jersey to the MBA game)...PV simply is due...they lost their modus operandi: 3 D1, 280lb. great offensive linemen and #12 is hitting singles rather than HS free safties). I also caught Lufkin's win vs. Katy this year and must say their league is stronger the the Elder,Moellar,et.al. Roll, you are probably right: my Riverdale tout was based solely on the Syrma game film and the almost yearly ######-kicking they administer to my pt-alma-mater, DB. I thought the defensive scheme vs. Trinity was genius, and 42, 47, and 12 the kinda guy DLS covets. I haven't seen enough TN football to make the comparisons I made. I do think the DLS streak will end soon although three skilled players have legit 4.3-somethings. I personally though the Poly game in Berkeley last year was the most complete HS coaching gem I have seen since the great DB teams of the late-50's rolled into Johnson City. That includes the movie-memoralized '87 Charley Weidermeir-coached CCS Championship, Los Gatos vs. the ignominous Saint Francis (Mark Chillaba blocked a St.F FG at game's end to salvage ALS-ravaged coach who whispered plays to wife from life support sideline golf cart who in turn gave to QB)..."One More Season," 4 stars, check it out. DLS's schedule is full of landmines: La Costa Canyon (San Diego) scored more points on DLS than any other last year and ran up 52 Friday. I know the Palma program initimately and they are tough Salinas kids who have played together for this moment. As to the previous post Re: DLS "dodging" "failing to prove..." PLEASE. I seen 5 or the 7 losses for DLS since 1982. I was there when Amani Toomer couldn't get it done vs. Regan Upshaw and Pittsburg HS. I saw Aaron Taylor "not" make holes in the St.Francis defense. I saw Mater Dei get rung up for their largest historical loss by a soph.QB would managed the pressure of 100-streak by throwing 6 TD's vs. the most illustrious program in S.CA history! PLEASE! Bottom line: Friday Nite! Let's Get it ON! I salute your team, whomever; I'll ogle your cheerleaders; and I'll munch for stadium food--AND, I'll toast your VICTORY!
  7. Da'V, I agree completely Brook' has the only shot...maybe if they meet again in 5A final. I've got to go to Chicago for Lenox (Providence) game...sorry to miss PV game. Sincerely like to see PV travel to Panhandle, Shreveport, or at least Charlotte (45 versus 45 at Independence)...better yet, Riverdale (the premier TN program, sorry MBA)! Someone at PV thinks a pressbox is more important than sending the Panthers to Orlando or Oakland Colsieum to support the #2 ranking. Go Spartans, Archbishop Mitty is no pushover. DLS, DLS, DLS!
  8. Try Union vs. Jenks, OK, this Friday. Oakridge vs. DB could be similar to GA game if someone'd roll back the clock to 60's. Too bad Buford doesn't get another real shot at Panther . The GA record streak is ending in Duluth. PV extremely overrated last year, even more so this.
  9. This game between Jenks and Union is gonna be something. Also, the Lincoln vs. Edgewater matchup. Mitty won big last week so the 4.37ers at DLS have their work cut out for them (as usual, Palma, St. Francis, especially La Costa--all serious roadblocks on the way to 144 vs. Evangel). Longview and Rockhurst will soften up EC, if not humiliate them. Oh, yeah, they still play football in Ohio, IL, and PA.
  10. Here's a Flash! MBA can beat Parkviex! I caught Park's 9min.-qtr-scrimmage vs. Buford on Fri. Then, MBA's,"I'm-gonna-pass-rush-until-I-tie-up-or-pass-out" great game on Sat. Pkx's 45-game streak predicated on 3 D1 300lbers. and a great baseball player. Friday, Buford controlled ball all 3rd qtr. and game break for Pkv came on 4th and long, inside Buford's 25yd. line. Pkv. is GA 5a, Buford, 33-game streak, is only 2A! And, Bhrom is like sex /teenagers, Porsche, and Dobyns-Bennett, i.e. overrated: Kyle Xright from Danville, Monta Vista, last year (Miami)...much better, better than Leak, too. Speaking of same: if DSL "recruits," strange Kyle didn't become a Spartan given Brent Cecil's lack of pedigree... Kyle lived 10 miles from DLS campus. On to Houston this Friday for Katy's game.
  11. Hey, Spear, You're fortunate I'll respond to your post...idiots only get one shot: Yeah, Jellico...I played one series in 2nd half as did all first teamers, ONLY 89 points. MorrisT...consolidated, both schools. Oakridge (nuff said). Chat. Cent. then one of 3 or 4 elite in TN...they ran-the-table in '65. Greenville Big Seven Champion..., Eliz. and Bristol dangerous. Travelled to Chat. 2x...Bradley C, Rome, GA...no Ketron, Sullivan Central. 31 points in 10 games. Offense and defense, all special teams. Only 3 coaches. No real lifting program. If you got hurt, Momma didn't come kiss it. 5 or 6 DI players, doctors, attornerys.....all in an era that didn't have idiots like you. PS Did you get your "feelings hurt" agains Maryville?
  12. So, if Dobyns-Bennett wins this game does that mean they reign supreme in Sullivan County? Which one of these North, South, East, West's is Ketron, Sullivan, Lynview, Churchill? If these sobsisters hit the schedule, is RossN'Robinson and Sevier JH's next? Is the idea here to save money to go play Rogersville? Jonesboro? Please with all the hype. The 600+ wins loses 2 for every one of these jobs. What happened to bringing the biggest, baddest into Kingsport? OR, gettin' on the bus and taking on someone of note? Lower left, bottom of TN Champions 1964 interested in answers.
  13. RollRedRoll, Thanks for the "vote of confidence," i.e, opinions, especially on chat sites, stocks and sports, are pretty over-the-top, but...here goes. I see lots of HS football...try to go to a major game every Friday. It's one of my hobbies--I don't glom off it as a recruiter, scout, etc. I did play for Hickory in NC and 2 years at DB--hence the '64 State Champs (DB's last). I played in college in the ACC, but most recently in an alumni game for Dilfer's HS in Aptos, CA vs. Santa Cruz, a 6-0 victory...the coach, 33 years old, the average age, 24, I suited up, practiced in pads 20 times before the actual game at 47 years old. Needless to say, Lortab 7.5mg made me a starter, if not unafraid and "ambitious." That said, I too like the USA poll just for "history's sake." Many of the names from 1982 are the same today. Seeing the top 10 play, 2 or 3 times in a season does point out glaring predilections for a bias that probably result more from the paper trying to capture readers in every locale, versus truly identifying great teams. I do put up the Bianco poll: good graphics. If MBA beats Trinity, I hope they should crack the top 25...If they run-the-table, I'm sure they should. (You have to admire EC for scheduling the most difficult HS schedule of all times. I think Booty's departure killed their chances, if not their bravado.) Unfortunately, TN is bottom-tier. I realize this is upsetting--it is to me also. In the South, one has FL, TX, GA, LA then, NC, VA, SC, KY, AL, MS, then TN and AR. The major university programs, and the notariety of those programs bolster my point. UT has recruited outside TN for years. I caught the Maryville undressing-of-DB-scrimmage last year. Pollsters must not see the nuances of a ranked team. Maryville's schedule need only include an MBA, Oakridge, BGA, Riverdale, Independence, Crest, Parkviex, Trinity, Moellar, Rock Hill, to prove me and others mistaken. Personally, I think any team on DLS's schedule could beat them handily. Mitty, St. Francis, Palma, and the teams DLS has beaten in DLS playoffs for years. Their caliber of play, e.g., vs. Poly is breathtaking. Until last year Poly had sent 39 players to the NFL! I don't think DB has sent one in a much longer history. Lastly, I really like the teams in SoCal, Oregon, Reno, and HI. I'm excited to see if Parkviex can replace the 1000lbs. of OL from last year--kinda cheating running behind that all night. I'm sure this Friday's scrimmage opponent, undefeated-Buford, is undersized. Again, good luck Saturday--a "V" for TN! See you there; I'll put on a Parkviex, #32 orange game jersey, just in case anyone'd like to trade something (equipment or punches), if the TN, or especially, Maryvile comments inflammed. I still have 2 or 3 Lortabs!
  14. Just making small talk Re: "paying," i.e., since I seem to "snakebite" #2's, if Trinity #2, MBA should buy some "insurance:" me! Yes, "acquit." especially given the #4 ranking. Does MBA have good passrush? Check out #45 for DLS on ESPN, 10/24.
  15. I really don't understand the USA blurp Re: DLS O-line: if a bunch of guys 210-190lbs. is "loaded" then.... One must appreciate the "over-matched" OL and DL's vs. St. Louis and Poly last year. For that matter, DLS sees 300-lb'ers routinely. EC has 2. On that subject, from reading the EC site, the 3rd Qtr., 3rd and 1, Ref.'s spot vs. Longviex evidently determined the fate of HS football, 2002. I'd look for EC to drop 1 or 2 before 10/24--they did not go undefeated in 7 on 7--Thomas Jeff.,PA, beat them, 2 of 3 series. For that matter, the Palma program in Salinas could be the premature end of DLS's current streak. I have seen 5 of last 7 DLS loses, and had the good fortune to see 5 of USA #2's lose last year: Palm Bay, Jenks, Poly, etc. If Trinity, #2, then MBA might consider paying my expenses to Nashville from Atlanta! I sincerely hope MBA acquits themselves admirably vs. Trinity. ... Nice juxtaposition of #4 and #5 on successive nights: Parkviex scrimmages Buford on Fri. at PV. Buford has a 30+ streak in 3A vs. the GA-record-45 of PV, i.e. something has to give. Good Luck to MBA. (Like to discuss or trade some DLS, PV, et.al-stuff for TN HS: tommillion@hotmail.com)
  16. Indian "pride!" Please. That ended in a too-close, '65-game vs. Oliver Springs! It's so boring listening to all the hype...never backing it up. The players are pansies/fat egomaniacs; the coaches are unimaginative; the schedule is laced with creampuffs; and, the fans are deluded into believing some feldercarp from 35 years ago. ...Wish I'd stayed in Hickory; the Red Tornadoes went 16-0 in '96. The Last Champion.
  17. Firefly, "Fossil?" I played MY last down in '94 (HS alumni game)...And you?, or has your mom let you out of the trailer yet? Welcome to the world of "begging the question:" a type of arguement noted first by Greeks who identified a "style" of proving a point after premises that arguer made as givens: 1.My "English" is wasted on YOU. 2.Teams and coaches are different now, so are red heads and blondes. 3.Yes, some players are "bigger, stronger, faster," if for some reason you played JV football, "smarter," certainly is debatable,e.g., the '64 Champs have multiple successful doctors and lawyer among it's members. 4.There ARE distractions: definitely NOT in Kingsport, but, I'm sure De La Salle has distractions, e.g., performance anxiety, media, 49ers, Warriors, Raiders, Catholicism, skiing in the Sierras, surfing in Santa Cruz, etc. BUT, that didn't keep Maurice Drew from gaining 195 yards on 11 carries and scoring 5 TD's vs. Antioch last night. Point: 40's coaches got DB team on the train to Atlanta, Miami...Coach Jasper had teams that didn't know a groin pull took more than 30 minutes to "heal." One works with what one has--or in your case with what one has not. 5.Lastly, #19 DOES stink. I said so here after watching the sickening first half vs. Mary-vile. I'm sorry if that hurts his feelings (another thing '40-70's teams weren't too concerned): he couldn't cover me deep, maybe not even YOU. Congratulations to the Indians--now the real fun begins: a quality opponent. And Firefly, I'm going to make a point of driving up to Murf'. Come over and introduce yourself. Dr. Tom Million, 6'2", 185lbs., gray hair, glasses (I'll take 'em off for you). GO SPARTANS (136 and countin'), Los Gatos Wildcats (talk about "distractions:" best lookin' women in USA), and Dobyns-Bennett Injuns
  18. setting up a game next year vs. Evangel Christian,LA. St.John Bosco, S.CA vs. Monsignor Pace, Miami Poly and DLS going to HI, gee... State "dynamo," Maryville having trouble driving to Nashville Area. Don't propose to let facts get into such an "emotional" issure.
  19. You posted, "Coach Clark is the best coach DB has ever had and I believe the best coach in Tennesse." I disagreed and gave specific examples, Jasper and '40's coach that supported my point, i.e., multiple STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS. Sorry if my "English" is beyond you.
  20. Firefly, Coach Clark is a nice guy...he really helped me one Christmas......BUT, "Best Coach?" I think Coach Jasper might disprove that hypothesis. I can remember living in Johnson City in the mid- to late-50's: Science Hill cheerleaders came to my elementary school to give out free tickets to DB game. The great STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, Jasper-lead teams rolled into Johnson City and virtually "scared" the Hilltoppers into one-sided losses. I've met some of the '40's STATE CHAMPIONS, most notably a professor at Stanford, and I'm sure teams that stayed undefeated and only once-scored-on, 7pts. by ATLANTA HIGH, then a victory over MIAMI HIGH, might have something to say Re: their coaching. My STATE CHAMPIONSHIP came inspite of the terrible coaching! Bottom line: Lots of history, hype, ill-gotten "attitude," ...a long 38 years...time to "earn" a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
  21. Unfortunately, CSS persists in airing TN and some Mobile,AL games in the Greater Atlanta area on Fridays. BA, Riverdale, MBA, AE, etc. at the expense of most 5A and 4A GA teams, especially south GA hotbed of great football. Occasionally, Parkviex, Broodxood, Stephenson, Lovejoy miraculously appear. ...Night and day. Not the speed and skill of CA or FL, but light years from TN's best. All-Star games are odd,e.g., the selection process in SC currently in turmoil for Shrine Game vs. NC. SC lineup is very undersized...must be the anti-Leak defense! Believe me, a 20-21 loss to a 7-4 Ohio program or squeeking by a small VA school is not validation. Maryvile does not make the playoffs in FL 6A, GA 4A, or CIF, Div.1. FYI, Interesting match-up in Reno this Friday...McQueen vs. Reno Hi's (no losses). Looks like DLS doesn't get #'s 1,8,9 QB's in Nation on route to 138 (just lots of #8, lots of attitude--check out San Leandro's site--nice video replays, player intro's--tough team, only losses to DLS. This year is DLS's most quixotic, coaching coupe and Maurice D). GO SPARTANS
  22. DLS does NOT have a future date vs. Poly (Thank God). There is no slur meant to Leak, I've heard stories Re: his good character although he is not the #1 HS QB in Nation. Strangely, Leak and Ind. remind me of Meyers Park and Rick Arrington in '64. I've seen Independence play this year multiple games and starters do not play all game regardless. DLS starters do not, in fact, the season is virtually over by game five except for game #12 vs. #1 QB (signed by Miami), and the eventual N.CA Championship vs. San Leandro, unfortunate 12-1 loser to Spartans 2 years running. Next year stars are hence groomed. The Independence coach may BE the problem and Providence High (NC) in game #'s14 or 15 may resolve his sense of sportsmanship and poor "timing." Go Spartans, Los Gatos, Sheldon, McQueen, DB.
  23. Chris Leak passing to receivers after lottery to determine name in record book (171 TD's) at 2:00+ in 4th Qtr. and up by 29! DLS three kneals inside Poly 5 at -2:00 in 4th Qtr. and up by 21. The consecutive 134 isn't about the players; it's the coach, the "philosophy," the team. GO SPARTANS
  24. 'Cat, thanks for the post--scores. OR has had DB's number for a long time...DB has done better of late. Personally, OR and Chat. Cent. are the eternal benchmarks of DB's success. Personally, the Cats hung the only loss on me (my team) during my tour of duty in E. TN. The '63 team had some studs: Grizel, Bond, some great linemen...nothing but respect for a magnificent tradition. GO SPARTANS-134 and countin'.
  25. B, do you happen to have the #'s 1 and 2; and #'s 1-4 USA Today for '95 and '96? Go to De La Salle site to compare...In '96 DLS scored 50+ in 7 of 12 games, and shut out opposition in 7 of those 12. I think Mater Dei...#1 in one of those years. DLS-M.Dei series began in '98, ended '01, and if all goes as planned, to resume next year. Is BA on Xavier's schedule next year? Does BA have $'s to travel? Let's send them to GA, FL, or NC. McQueen of Reno might be a good call--i.e. cheap air, hotel...and I think over rated even though they score 60 a game and have virtually slain all NV opposition. GO Spartans
