  1. I played in an "alumni" game for Trent Dilfer's High School in 1994. ...Practiced in pads 15 days before game, one scrimmage vs. team other than opponent before actual game: lights, cameras, fans, special teams, refs, tapping, etc. Average age: 23, aver. occupation: construction, aver. IQ: 75, aver. sense of humor: 0, biggest: 275, smallest: 145, favorite avocation: 24 Hour Nautilus. The coach: 33. My age at game time: 47. One caveat: Vicodin 750mg. 6-0
  2. Caligula, Over decade is a long time to pine. I remember it like it's still Dec.,1991...cool for the Oakland Colesium...rainy, Amani Toomer just couldn't get deep often enough. Streak should have been 160...ah, the 1988 loss, I remember that crisp fall evening, Colesium grass.... ;)DLS,DLS,DLS,DLS,DLS! DLS DLS! 3. ...Interesting reading on CalHi.com Re: history CA vs. HI. I seriously think Long Beach Poly'll have a little trouble repeating 102-0 from 1920 vs. Red Raiders; and St.Louis may painfully remember 55-game streak's end vs. lesser rated CA team. Sept. 21 is "Th'Thrillas-Near-Manilla." ...Caught USA #2, Palm Bay's demise in Orlando, Thursday...easy to see FL dominance at university Div.I (speed). USA uses some esoteric intangible to rate teams early in season only to yield to the same programs at year's end, i.e, 6A usually beats 4A, odds are small school may play the "Hoosiers" card once, but usually.... Nice to see NC may have finally caught up to SC. Jenks and Evangel need to stop crying and start traveling.
  4. Just1np's "logic" is as faulty as her "use" of the English language! Charlotte Independence, anyone? [Edited by 64TNChamp on 9-2-02 8:52P] [Edited by 64TNChamp on 9-2-02 8:54P]
  5. Parkview, Lincoln, Evangel, Jenks, Independence vs. any in TN present OR PAST/FUTURE! ...Hopefully to include Maryville and anyone else full of hot air. Fox Sports airs intersectional games in CA--any chance here? [Edited by 64TNChamp on 8-28-02 10:29A]
  6. Are dim bulbs! #19--Has anyone not beaten you deep? If a punt is blocked and it's 7 on one, don't trip over the one! #14--Try lacrosse. #32--On 4th and short at a yard stripe extend the ball over the line to prohibit a "homer" spot. #87--Play pass defense if you aren't going to catch the ball and the defender has a chance to intercept--especially in their end zone. L.Def.--#@*^*+ Totally unimaginative play calling, a bunch of zombies, poor tacklers, incredible lack of speed.
  7. ******I've been a fan for 20 years...see lots of "big" games nationally each year...lived in Monterey and Lake Tahoe, currently in Rosxell, GA and Maui. Played in alumni game for Aptos High vs. Santa Cruz in '94 (as a 47yr-old), but played for Dobyns-Bennett in '63,'64. Going to DB-Maryville scrimmage Friday--let's get a beer. PS Calig'...DLS is the standard for any program, kids need to have something to shoot for, especially after the ######-kicking in Long Beach last year by the No.1, DeLaSalle Spartans! 8. How about five teams in a row with more than 10 wins each last year each? How about the #'s 3 and 15 in the Nation? How about having to play a team with 8 or the top 100 players in a state with 35 million people? How about having to face 2 of the top ten quarterback recruits in the national list posted here this am, that are in your league, but not in the first five above? How about travelling 6 hours one way by air, how about travelling 4 hours one-way by air? How about facing a team that averages 300lbs. per man up front? That same team has its entire state het up for your demise in Aloha Stadium of all places. How about the pressure of keeping a 125 game win streak alive? How about old geezers like me having trouble remembering how Amani Toomer(NYG) couldn't pull out a win in 1991 so the streak would be 160!?
  9. At Wake Forest we had a marvelously fit running back named Jimmy "The Jet" Johnson. In Spring practice I attempted to "zero in" on The Jet's hip as I closed down from my defensive end position. Contact was facemask to hip pad. Seconds later I awoke in the DARK with the "typical-WFU-thought:" "What in the #@*(^%! have I done to myself now::" At WF we were characteristically "thinkers:" doctors, lawyers, entrepremiers, not NFL-ers-to-be, and self-preservation was higher on the list of "things to do." Minutes later the assistant coaches, to my cheek's chagrin, had re-centered my helmet over my face, thus proving me not blinded by "The Jet." (Helmets were plastic shells supported my abrasive canvas strips.) My facemask was shattered; my head felt even worse. We played on. I'm sure "The Jet" was sorry. I think he has called me several times to "apologize;" but every time I pick up the phone he must have just hung up before I have the chance to answer--he's NEVER THERE!

Could someone please tell me the time and place of Friday's scrimmage? Thank you, tommillion@earthlink.net
  11. So Barry Bonds went to Serra HS (Father Junipero Serra). They are the "Padres." Are their women the Padre's Ladies (i.e. someone is pimping)? Or, are they just the "Serra Nuns." If Thurston High in Reno is the "Colts," are the girls "Fillies," or just "Nags?" A great program in Salinas is the Palma "Chieftans." Is it then, the "Chief's Women," or just the "Squaws?" By the way, it's not really American Indian,..something Scottish. Bag piper plays incessantly the entire game. By the third quarter no matter the opponent, you want to kill ANYONE for Palma!

In 1963, John Slaughter wore #63; his senior year his team won the Tennessee State Championship out of no where (only 3 starters returned from the previous year!). Slaughter was 190lbs. and a stretch at 5'10" (check photo in lobby, 2nd on lower left). Against TN High late in the season when almost the entire line was injured, (they all went BOTH ways AND special teams) Slaughter made 22 UNASSISTED tackles. Needless to say, that game film and great SAT scores/good grades got him a full ride at Davidson. Just to "beat a dead horse," Slaughter could bench 350lbs. and run 100yds. in 11- secs. To illustrate, his freshman year at Davidson he play CORNERBACK! His sophomore year...DEFENSIVE TACKLE! Points (3): #63 you are part of a grand tradition, your responsibility is to IT. 2. Play every down as if it were your last. 3. As always, Beat 'Em, then Beat 'Em Badly! Roll!
  13. DeLa Salle finished 4-0 vs. Mater Dei; Guttierrez's deput under "the-cloud-of-sophmore-may-not-handle-pressure" didn't quite go as planned: 6 TD passes vs. Monarchs--biggest loss in MD history! For fun DLS has scheduled volleyballers from La Costa Canyon this year. St.Louis of Honolulu had remarkable streak themselves this decade, but lost to Canyon Creek, CA. St. Louis loves to travel to the Main Land, but three years ago vs. Chapparal of Las Vegas, started ok in victory over best NV team, but Crusaders had to forfeit as sources revealed LV HOOKERS had been employed by team. Punishment meeted out by Coach Lee in form of having to play Skyline of Salt Lake City next year! Salt Lake is a lame!
  14. Any thoughts on best nicknames/mascots? E.g., I'm partial to "The Black Tornado" of S. Medford, OR. Other Oregon bests are South Eugene, Axemen, and Grants Pass, Cavemen; but, females may find AxeXomen (shades of Lizzy Borden) and CaveXomen less that enticing. The Huron River Rats, MI, have a case, too. Lots of great programs are Xildcats, Oak Ridge, Morganton, NC, and Los Gatos, CA. My fave, "The Purple Pounders!"
  15. Poly (USA#3) has replaced Mater Dei in Aloha Stadium, Sept. 21. Poly has sent 39 players to NFL and is reigning CIF-three-time champion, only loss in last three years to DLS; BUT, Red Raiders of Kahuku are 2-time HI State Champs, and have 6 players already signed to Div. I letters of intent. If it doesn't get any better--second game DeLa Salle (USA#1) puts 125 streak (159 of last 160) on line vs. mighty Crusaders of St. Louis Hi (USA#8). That and some serious surfing on North Shore makes for a great vacation!
  16. I try to see multiple states' best teams play in person each year...of course I have my favorites, e.g. DeLaSalle, HI, OR, GA, FLA. Tennessee simply doesn't measure up. Other than the Bolles game has a good TN team had a home-and-home vs. out-of-state quality opponent?
  17. One Game: DeLaSalle vs. Long Beach Poly last year. 22 Div. One propects on field. #1 vs. #2 in NATION! Northern vs. Southern Calif--35M population base. DLS decade-long win streak on the line (currently, 125). Stands filled with scots, alumni, pro footballers (Poly has 36 alumni that are NFLers!). Poly going or it on 4th down 5 times in second half--stopped on 4 of 5. DLS has lost 7 times since 1982--stay tuned for 9/21 "date" with St. Louis Hi, Crusaders, 7:00 HST, Aloha Stadium, Honolulu. (Several years back, StL had 77-game streak). ...Not as "interesting" as Dobyns-Bennett vs. Oakridge--but you get the idea!
  18. The "Purple Pounders" of '64 were Gods! ...Managed contested 6-0 win in Kingsport in '63...Central won State Championship in '65. ...Wonder if Max Smith (74) and Brian Millsap (76 and principal's son) are out of prison now?
