  1. Thanks for the well wishes, WesCharge. I really didn't see either team winning by 9. I thought it would be a 4-5 point game either way. These two teams have a way of playing their best when it's all on the line. Your seniors had a great 4 years, and next year's team will be loaded. AGAIN! Man, I get tired of saying that. You would think that every few years you would be down at least a little. Guess thats what makes this district one of the best; all the teams just reload. Great season, and we'll try to get some respect for 13AA. Go Lady Rebs!
  2. GC did play a great game and have a fine season. I thought they would find a way to win this one. A rebound here and there that takes away a stickback by NS would have changed this game. I was pulling for you, GC. An all 13AA region final would have been great. Note to all young players out there: Work on boxing out! If you need proof, look at the stats on this game. Hopefully the Lady Rebs will do a little better than GC. GO OC!
  3. Posted by WesCharge 1-30-06 PowerSet...I truely hope you get that region semis wish. Only an idiot would say they wanted a piece of Westview in the region semis. Good luck in that 4-5 game, ya'll might not get out of the district, and then all this talk will mean nothing! The best chance for Obion is to win a coin toss with Milan for the 3rd spot! Call me an idiot if you want, but you can call the Lady Rebels "Substate-Bound." Hope your puke bag supply was sufficient. Softball time in Martin already??? My, my, my....... In all seriousness, great game, both teams. Sad that one team had to lose. Westview has a great team, but, obviously, so does OC. Keep it up, Lady Rebs!! WesCharge, see ya on the diamond.
  4. After watching and knowing Jimmy for many years, he will have his best 5 on the floor tonight. He does some off-the-wall things with his rotation during the season, but in a do-or-die, loser-goes-home game, he will put his best hand on the table. There will be no aces held in the hole. Look for a role player to be the difference in tonight's game. UC's Weddle and LC's Tyler will be under heavy pressure, and someone else will have to step up. Will it be someone from UC or LC??? We'll know in about 6 hours. Best of luck to all!
  5. Tonight should be two good 'uns. Hopefully GC can take care of Northside and then we can have an all 13AA party for the championship and substate, regardless of the outcome of OC/WV. Of course, I'm pulling for the Lady Rebels, but I'll ultimately be pulling for whoever survives from 13AA. May the best teams win. Good luck Lady Rebs!
  6. Hillcrest won the TMSAA West Tennessee Sectional last night by beating Mt Pisgah out of Cordova 35-31. Since West Tennessee has no large or small division, Hillcrest could be considered a present day "Hoosiers." Hillcrest is a K-8 school with 600 students. The teams they beat were Bolivar (522 students in grades 6-8), defending champion Southwind (1033 students in grades 6-8), Craigmont (1080 students in grades 6-8), and Mt Pisgah (1022 students in grades 5-8). Congratulations Lady Cougars. Way to show those HUGE Memphis schools how basketball is played.
  7. It would be nice to see TMSAA have both small and large divisions in West Tennessee rather than over 100 schools in one division. East and Middle are not set up this way. Every year the tournament ends up being dominated by Memphis schools with over a thousand 6th,7th,and 8th graders while the smaller rural schools with under a hundred in those grades don't have a chance. I agree that TMSAA doesn't need to be as specific as the high school divisions, but a little equality for West Tennessee would be nice. This was brought up at last February's TMSAA Board of Control meeting, but fell upon deaf ears. Seems to be a pattern of that sort of thing............ I'm not holding my breath that anything will get better.
  8. Maybe "there" record is "so bad" because the teams that have beaten them have a combined record of 148-35. That is a little over 76% winning percentage. On that subject, the Lady Rebels have split with Union City, Gleason, and Milan, three teams that are combined 60-11. Maybe "there" record is so bad because they only have 2 seniors on the team and freshmen and sophomores are carrying a lot of the load. Maybe "there" coach realizes that a fast start means jack compared to a strong finish. Maybe "there" just finding the right rotation after a couple of injuries. Maybe "there" record is not 24-1 or whatever, but when the post season starts, I don't think records mean much. Ask Union City’s boys about last year. Or ask Gibson County’s girls about the 2003-2004 season. Or ask USC about the Rose Bowl, Indy about the AFC semis, or the Cardinals about the NLCS. A “good” record just puts a bulls-eye on your back. Have fun dodging the arrows. Keep on dwelling on our record. We’ll be happy flying under the radar. Here's to playing Westview in the region semis. Tip: When it rains, tilt your head down a bit; wouldn't want you to drown. Go Lady Rebs!!
  9. Its not like OC has played Podunk HS night in and night out. Their combined opponents' record is 102-24 (76%). If you leave out defending AA champ Chester County and AAA Munford (combined record of 18-14), that record becomes 84-10(84%). I would challenge any other teams across the state to play the best teams in West Tennessee night in and night out and have a better record. The Lady Rebels have played some great teams, no questions asked. Could they have won some of those games?? Absolutely! Talent will keep games close, but it takes experience to pull them out. Once thses girls have some more game time under their belts, their luck can and will change. Will it be this year?? Who knows. But, it will happen. Westview is a great team, but even great teams have bad games. Ask Union City's boys about last year. Be glad that Friday night wasn't a game in February of March. As for a coaching change, that's how rumors get started. No one in Obion County is going to call for ES's head for losing to good teams with his team of mostly freshmen and sophomores. If he had a senior-heavy roster and they were "should win" games, then maybe. But that hasn't been the case (see above records of opponents). Keep your heads up Lady Rebels, keep working hard and improving, and turn some heads in the second half of the season. Get well soon, Gentry. Go Lady Rebels!!!!!

  15. It's not like the Lady Rebels have played Podunk HS 10 times. The teams that have beaten OC are a combined 102-24. Take out defending state champ Chester Co. and AAA Munford's records and the opponents' recors are 84-10. Thats pretty good. Considering the Lady Rebels have been in or led each of those games at least until halftime, that shows a young ballclub. Talent makes games close, but experience turns close games into wins. When those girls get a little more experience, the tide will turn. As far as OC playing well, they missed several shots that they should make. Coaching change??? I challenge anyone to play the teams OC has played this year with a young team and have a better record. WHo knows what will happen, but I dont see a coach with a state tourney appearance in his first season being removed for losing to the best teams in West Tennessee. Good Luck Lady Rebels!!
  16. Final score Obion Co 17 Covington 7
  17. Are any of the freshmen getting any playing time, and if so, which ones look like they could contribute this season? I hear a freshman linebacker looks pretty good. Any news???
  18. I think those elephants have stomped the sense completely out of ol Fullcourtpress.....not that there was alot to begin with.
  19. Simply put, Austin East out-played Obion Co. when it mattered most. Obion Co.'s style of defense wasn't an issue. Playing hard wasn't an issue. Whether travelling violations were real or not wasn't an issue. One team's freshmen being better than the other's wasn't an issue. Turnovers, allowing offensive rebounds at the end of regulation and in both overtimes, and poor free-throw shooting by OC was the difference. I'm taking nothing away from Austin East. They did what they had to do to win the game. We could talk about "if's" for a hundred years, but it doesn't change the fact that last night, Austin East was the better team when it counted. If we played again, I would expect it to go down to the wire again. This was a great game played by two great teams who both proved worthy of being in the State Tournament. Lady Rebels, we're proud of you. Be proud of what you accomplished this year, but remember the feeling and build on it for next year. Let's make an early March trip to Murfreesboro a yearly thing. Lady Roadrunners, congratulations, and keep playing hard and maybe we'll meet again in the future. Remember, not all Obion Co. fans were on here talking smack before the game. Most of us can win with class and lose with class. GO LADY REBS!!! and especially now..... Go Lady Chargers!!
  20. I couldn't agree with you more, redbirdfan. The latest post was a GREAT scouting report. The first post, the one with the "Stuart Scott ESPN flava'", was just senseless comments. No offense meant by my post. I just don't want OC to have a bad reputation as loudmouths and smoke-blowers across the state. We get that enough in 13AA. I just dont want you to sound like ChrisBurr555555. No one deserves to sound that doltish. Cards fans are better than that. Go Lady Chargers!! GO LADY REBELS!!!!
  21. OK, RB, thats enough. I would hope that by doing the job you do, trashtalking would not be necessary. I'm sure that the Lady Rebels coaching staff would not find your endless gibberish amusing. True, these girls have worked hard and don't want it to end now, but the continued nonsense is getting old. I want the Lady Rebels to win as much as anyone, but big talk on here has nothing to do with that. The game will be played on a court, not a keyboard. Austin East fans- I can assure you that Obion County's Lady Rebels know that the Lady Roadrunners are a great team, and they are NOT overlooking AE or tomorrow's game. We know that the game will be a battle and it could go either way. Most of us knowledgeable OC basketball fans have a great amount of respect for the athletics program at Austin East, regardless of what some of the posters on here try to say. Ignore redbirdfan and his senseless comments, and lets have a great game tomorrow evening. Go Lady Rebels! thumb
  22. Well wishes and best of luck from an Obion County fan to the Lady Chargers on Thursday. Play hard and hopefully if we do our job, we will still have a chance at Round 5. Go Lady Chargers!! GO LADY REBELS!!!
  23. Sounds like you ARE Chris Berman!! There surely is a lot of rumblin, bumblin, and stumblin. Actually, there are only 8 teams from East Tennessee in the state tourney. Ironically, there are also 8 teams from Middle Tennessee and 8 teams from West Tennessee. I'll list them below for those who are geographically challenged. East- Cleveland Greenville Powell Elizabethton Oneida Austin East Coalfield Walker Valley Middle- Mt Juliet Oakland Wilson Central David Lipscomb Clarkrange Westmoreland Summertown CPA West- Dyersburg Jackson Northside Chester Co Bolivar Obion Co Westview University School of Jackson Peabody Looks pretty equal to me. Oh yeah, Harpeth Hall who won the DII title this weekend is actually from Nashville, which happens to be Middle Tennessee. Guess that means that East Tennessee and West Tennessee is still waiting on that gold ball for this year, huh? I would think that a college student would have been taught to check facts beofre making a fool of himself. Congrats to all the teams still alive and going to the 'Boro.
  24. Sorry to burst your bubble, barb, but Dyersburg has played pretty stiff competition during this regular season. They have played (and beaten) 4 teams who will be in Murfreesboro this week. They are a combined 6-3 against AAA Jackson North Side, AA Westview and Obion Co, and A Peabody. Also included in Dyersburg's win column are perennial powers AA Jackson Co., last year AA state participant Crockett Co, and a pretty good Ridgeway team. But, if you want to keep thinking that the Lady Trojans haven't seen any competition this year, then be my guest. We'll see you Thursday.
