  1. The fact is the Rebels played a near flawless game -- we didn't -- and that was the biggest reason you won. Oh yes, I'm confident we saw the same game. I just saw a very confused and different Burro defense, that's all.
  2. Mr. Triple Post: re: Mr. Stewart Tell me that about 6 PM (CST) next Sat.
  3. No problem, Harry. If Hillsboro offers a class(es) that a zoned school doesn't offer and the student offers a compelling reason to take that class(es) then they will be admitted out of zone. It is the same at any public school in Nashville and to my knowledge statewide. Perfectly legal and eligible. Not to mention having a better student body and neighborhood and...yes, football teams on occasion. Of course, this in no way compares to paid tuition to a top-notch private school, in a great neighborhood with a great student body with great athletes and winning records for their teams. So don't go there. Regards.
  4. Interesting numbers and I agree with this partial assessment: both are defensively very stingy and offensively very awesome, on average. Their reg. season snapshots are close. Intangibles and breaks will make a difference in the BIG ONE. Remember: both Mary and Hill played 2nd and 3rd strings for half of most games after earning early first half blowouts. The Burros and Rebels? Arguably the two BEST high school teams in the state, bar none. Total packages. This is the game to see next w / e.
  5. Chris Russell plays at wide receiver and strong safety. Actually, '01 Burro tailback Darius Petty resembled Chris in size and speed. Darius was injured most of last year with a torn ACL but played in the finals. He is now a U.S. Marine, or so I'm told. [Edited by KP9481 on 12-1-02 5:35P]
  6. Chris Russell plays at wide receiver and strong safey.
  7. By "2" you meant FB Calvin Bryant? If Maryville stops him, they win? And, are you talking about on offense or defense? Is it that simple? We're bringing a hungry 11 big time, every time so be ready. "Fridge" is great, but we have more kitchen sink than that and proved it on several plays, both sides of the ball vs. Melrose.
  8. By the same token: a lot of teams thought Melrose had an awesome, high scoring offense -- till they met Hillsboro, that is... Now what ya got? The final score is what matters: 7-6 or 41-38.
  9. Three words for you: seek therapy soon. hehehe. Anyway, Maryville and Hillsboro players and coaches all know what they are up against. And if they don't they will have a taste of it this week. It's gonna be a great game for the players. The rest of us are on the sidelines. Also, we have several great receivers and running backs -- or, haven't you noticed? You will Dec. 7th.
  10. I certainly wouldn't call him an 'idiot'; he's actually a great defensive mind who happened to make it to the dance with the homecoming queen and spent too much time before-hand trying out different tuxes. We all do that stuff. He's still here -- we all learn from our mistakes and he will atone for his last year, promise. Ever gone into the kitchen and over-cooked a dish you've served up all year only to foul it up with too much ingredients? Course not!... 'cause we're guys. But in essence, that's what we did with our state-best defense last year. We over-cooked it. We're serving up our 'special ' this time. Enjoy!
  11. Dear Harry, Thanks for the support . In-kind, I was glad to see MBA make a great final stretch and win the gold for their school and the Mid-state. I just have some lingering issues with the way they are able to get key talent. To wit: can you imagine what Melrose (or East last and this year) could have done if they had ANYTHING to offer a kid who could kick extra points and field goals? That's all I'm saying. Hillsboro has a pretty goood Photography program and a decent horticulture class. We even have a 25-year-old, 16-track recording studio!!! And yet, I degress. You're right about Antonio Heffner --he's the real deal and likely is D-1 talent as a junior. I liked his shiny gold cleats by the way, but it didn't help A.H. avoid all those punishing sacks, though. Has Maryville played vs. a quarterback like that this year? Well, probably not since last year's title game vs. Hillsboro. "Bad" Brad Doss will create plenty of double trouble for the Maryville "D". For the record, Elliott banged home a 45-yarder vs. Shelbyville and barely missed a 54-yarder vs. Melrose -- against a stiff wind no less. Those are his longest but he practices from 55 out. We were tested by Overton, really, twice -- they just never recovered from that interception in the end zone on their TD attempt just before the half in the playoffs. I'm curious: how did you come up with 23 points? Hillsboro's Burros: "Quit" is not in our vocabulary.
  12. Does anyone know how the TSSAA decided to allow television coverage for the games this year? When I saw the promo on our local fox station last Thursday night I had to do a double take. Say whaaaaat...? ! I had NO idea the finals would get live TV this year. Last year there was no TV coverage and the only way fans could get good game tape was to buy it from a vendor at the game. Never saw the tape (it was too much $$$) so I don't know if they had a play-by-play guy and color commentary. I bet that whole idea went over like a lead balloon and produced very little revenue. As I saw both Friday and Sat. night, there was very little action at the tape vendor's booth. So I would say the TSSAA realizes it will undoubtedly get far more money from the Fox stations state-wide and probably much of the commercial advertising revenue, as well.
  13. Those three stud DB's and a host of other stifling defenders kept 'Michael Vick, Jr.', to one touchdown Friday night. The better question is: Does Maryville have 'Brett Favre', Jr.? You'll need him. [Edited by KP9481 on 12-1-02 1:55P]
  14. When Hillsboro changed its defensive package from "man-on-man'" to ''zone" for the FIRST time all year against the Rebels, the Hillsboro players did not respond at all well to the new system. What was worse is we never adjusted and reverted back to our man defense the entire game. The fact our defense gave up less than a TD every game all year is a telling statement. Remember the cailber of most of our opponents, okay... and then remember the 2nd and 3rd string played most of the 2nd half as well and still held 'em. It's not nearly as much about Maryville performing great on offense, although you certainly took advantage. No, the Burros were stuck playing in a defensive scheme with which they were not familiar and had to play catch-up all game. Our running game was accustomed to scoring most of our points and controlling time of possession. We couldn't do this for the need to pass more and score quickly. Those turnovers killed us, too. I know: excuses, excuses. But this year will be different. [Edited by KP9481 on 12-1-02 12:42P]
  15. Good points. We're looking forward to the game.
  16. We all meet again, don't we now? Funny how many threads here have left Hillsboro out of the finals. So few believers out there. Gonna be a great game against you all but I have faith things are gonna end differently this time. Yes, as long as we don't turn the ball over foolishly this time Hillsboro will have a better shot at taking home the gold ball. It's just our destiny. The team (Melrose) we beat last night in front of what had to be 10-12 thousand rowdy, spirited fans was a true championship-caliber test. We perservered. Before you all start thinking Hillsboro got out within an inch of their lives think about these things: An undersized, out-quicked visiting team traveled 3.5 hours to a historically 'hostile' neighborhood in front of that many people and kept its composure the entire game. Even the official timekeeper for Melrose tipped the scales momentarily as he held the clock (intentionally or not) on four straight Melrose offensive downs toward the end of the 3rd quarter. After loud screaming and chants from Hillsboro fans and coaches the refs FINALLY obliged and took off nine seconds of what should have been at least 30-40 seconds, but whose counting? Hillsboro's band is so lame they didn't even make the trip -- Melrose's band had to play our songs... and they did it well. We had 500 raucus Burro fans rattle our side all game long. Melrose was EXTREMELY talented and speedy and I guarantee Antonio Heffner is a name you will be hearing in future Saturdays and Sundays. Coach Ingram will be 'kicking' (no pun) himself for some time for not going for that extra point. Hillsboro's defensive coordinator is STILL kicking himself for changing defenses (from man to zone) the week before last years' championship game. That opened a lot of new ground for Mr. Stewart. THAT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. What the news articles didn't mention was the breaks that dictate a game as much as anything. As Scrappy and a few others have said, last years' Maryville win over the Burros was no show of domination. This year won't be either. 17. Hey jerk, I know Fred Fisher and he's the one who told me a LONG time ago. I have nothing against Fred as a person or a former player, just the way MBA gets some of their athletes. You don't like it -- YOU can shove it. One more thing: I didn't start that thread about this "debate being so eeeaassy"... one of your MBA buddies did. So YOU get your facts straight before shooting YOUR big mouth off. [Edited by KP9481 on 11-29-02 11:57A]
  18. You Rebels fans never get tired of tooting your own team's horn, do you? This "we are the champions" and "nobody can beat us" thread is real old. It never fails to rear its ugly head. What play on grass when your guys can walk on water?
  19. The site has been changed back to Melrose. What does the term "Orange Mound" mean?
  20. Rollredroll Money=Entitlement. Simple as that. Happy Thanksgiving!
  21. I do have my facts straight and you're right about Michael Fisher. He's a good kid and their family is great and all that, but I was talking about his DAD, Fred Fisher playing for MBA 30 years ago and their family income effecting his school choice back then. Of course, this was way before you were even a sparkle in your Mom's eye, so how would you know about it? The post you're referring to is no knock on Fred, just an illustration of the 'great education for great athletes' award foundation on West End. Heck, if you don't believe me ask Michael's pop yourself, he'll tell you why he went to MBA instead of making a public team a lot beter. [Edited by KP9481 on 11-27-02 8:39A]
  22. My guess is: Memphis Inter-scholastic Athletic Association
  23. I have it on good authority there's a better than even chance of it being moved because of poor field conditions. New site is the stadum adjacent to the liberty bowl, which ain't a heck of a lot better.
  24. Melrose hasn't played Hillsboro, nor us them, so hush. it's really a toss-up. Coming down to turnovers, field position, fair officiating, lucky breaks, coaching, (heck: scoring for goodness' sake!), etc. Hillsboro will arrive in Eastern Arkansas late afernoon Friday ,en masse (with the courtesy of Memphis police escort ,no less). Go figure. I heard today the Melrose HS field was such a mess the game is being moved to that municipal stadium near the Liberty Bowl. Heck, at least we don't have to play at the Titan's home filed. LOL. Bring it on. What's your mascot name? We're the Jaack..., er. ah, the Burros! -- yeah, I know, I know...
  25. Just being a little sarcastic on that one... Bringing up past crimes and misdemeanors of former students has no relation -- other than name of school -- to the current Burros team. Kinda like the dominating football record over Hillsboro for decades past -- it's old news. Know much about Melrose? Played them?
