  1. I suspect it gets presented somewhat differently every time...hence the rampant confusion. When folks give a presentation and then get stumped by questions from the audience, that's a good indication that the presenters don't fully understand what they're presenting.
  2. Ok folks...I finally found a link that does a decent job of explaining things, at least as well as TSSAA is able to explain them...check it out at bit.ly/zplan Yeah, it's a weird looking link, but it works. According to the article, the top two teams regardless of classification have automatic berths, so in the earlier example of LC 10-0 and FC 9-1 with the others 8-2 or worse both LC and FC would have berths, but the 5A team in the district with the 8-2 record probably has one but may not...depending on how many other pseudo "automatic qualifiers" there are.... One item in the article was particularly disturbing (referring to questions after a presentation the TSSAA gave to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association convention): "Note – they (the TSSAA) didn’t have answers for everything and some questions stumped them. That’s not good." That's definitely not good. So this is where we are due to an aversion to high gas prices, long trips to other schools, the potential for larger gate receipts from the visiting crowd, and angst over teams with losing records making it to the playoffs under the old system. If I were a coach I suppose I'd put a banner on the locker room wall that said something like: "Play your best in every game, and hope that you don't get shafted at the end of the season!"
  3. So...LC 1-9 beats FC with FC having 2-8 record, FC gets berth? The guy behind this madness.
  4. So...if Lincoln Co. finishes 10-0 and Franklin Co. finishes 9-1 then LC gets an automatic and FC gets tossed into some convoluted gumbo with other 6A teams to determine if FC gets to go? And...if LC goes 1-9 by beating FC then LC still gets an automatic? Are there ANY other states that do things this way?
  5. I don't know if another thread already has covered this [i can't search for stuff in this new format], but can someone 'splain to me how it's gonna work? I see that Oakland is in a district with 5 other 6A teams while Lincoln County is in one with one other 6A team and 4 other 5A teams...seems like the old Region 4 is getting shafted.... I've searched some on the internet - I haven't found anything that helps me out, other than the complicated tie breaker procedure...who gets to go to the playoffs??? Anybody???
  6. I see that Lincoln County is #13 on that poll...here's hoping that we'll be seriously competing with the Patriots (and the Warriors) this year!!!!
  7. The game is at the Pit this fall. 2P - I'm not sure how we look this year - I know we've lost some starters, but someone else needs to chime in regarding the strengths and weaknesses of the team this year. In any case I'm counting on the atmosphere to bring out the best in both teams!
  8. Who else besides me is glad to see this rivalry back in action???? I'm gonna get to eat those famous hot dogs every other year, and enjoy a great game every year, hopefully for a long time!!!
  9. You're correct that the mistake would not be reversed at the end of the first half - the difference here is that the game was over - time had expired. The refs don't have the power to arbitrarily (or mistakenly) extend a game beyond regulation. They do have the power to screw things up during the game. Aside from the fact that single events never decide football games, an error made by an official during the game is quite different than an error made after the game, for the same reason I stated above.
  10. That's just it - the game was won on the field. The bad call came after the game had ended.
  11. Tough call - I suppose the decision boils down to choosing between which team will be most angered by a decision against it - the one that won by the rules or the one that won by a bad call. I would have to side with the team that won by the rules, and my sympathy for the other coach disappeared when he started whining about some sort of conspiracy against his region of Mississippi. If he was really concerned about his players he'd be helping them deal with it rather than stoking bitter feelings.
  12. Good grief. I'll bet you're one of the guys that thought Gore won the 2000 election since he got the popular vote and that matters more than the electoral vote, since the rules shouldn't matter if they don't give you the outcome that you want. I've heard a lot of people use that same goofy logic. Jeez....
  13. Everyone else in the business goes by the same rules. Are you trying to say Franklin County did something different?
  14. Interesting graphic. They're a little confusing to me though (as are most things I encounter). They appear to show evolution of the final split in opinion as a function of time, but that's not right since the Alcoa/Cumberland Gap graph would most likely show a large split from the beginning instead of a smooth transition from 50/50 to the current 99/1. Then I wondered if the gap at the end indicates how many folks have voted, but that can't be the case based on what the Mt. Pleasant/McEwen graph looks lilke. Anyhoo, it is interesting, especially the Mt. Pleasant/McEwen and Lincoln County/Wilson County ones, showing how opinion has been changing during the week.
  15. I suspect that whatever the new system is it won't be perfect, since anything short of a double elimination tournament will have its own peculiar problems and folks will continue to whine about it. It's actually almost impossible for any 5A team in a region other than 3-5A to make the playoffs with a 3-7 record (absent forfeits) since all the other regions have at least 7 teams in them. In Region 3 all ya gotta do is beat the right 3 teams (actually you can do it by beating the right two teams). In the other regions it would take several teams tied for a low seed for something like that to happen, which like you say is unusual. Like I said - dem's da rules (at least for now).
  16. This comes up every year and I'm always surprised by the complaining that goes with it. A couple of years ago Livingston Academy entered the playoffs as a 4th seed with a 5-5 record and won the championship. Granted, it's very unlikely that a 3-7 team could do that, but dem's da rules, and forfeiting would a sorry thing to do to one's players. Occasionally the two best teams in the state are in the same region, and one of them doesn't get the respect it deserves in the playoffs, but again dem's da rules, and until someone comes up with a better system I figure it's best to play by the rules and resist whining about them when they go against you. Just my two shekels....
  17. That will be the key to the game...which Falcon team shows up. I hate Thursday night games unless my team is the underdog...but I'll be there rooting for the Falcons to go 5-0 in the region!!!!
  18. The crowd will matter if the folks actually get into the game - a lot of times the crowd is there but the spirit isn't. I think the game outcome will depend on which Falcon team shows up and if that team is ready to play. The Falcons have the defense and the offense to win it. The inconsistency this year has been frustrating for the players, coaches and the fans. If the Falcons play to their potential while minimizing mistakes they will win it - if they don't then Cookeville could run away with it - Joslin is the kind of coach that will take every mistake we make and turn it into points or at least field advantage. I'm hoping for a great game and a decisive win for the Falcons!
  19. THAT'S what I'm talkin' about!!!! Third round!!!!
  20. Lincoln County should take this one as long as we stay focussed and play smart for 4 quarters. Does Warren County have a decent passing game?
  21. You should read this thread: http://tennessee.coacht.com/boards/index.p...howtopic=164986 You're going to get your momma kicked off the boards.
  22. Goodness...do you talk to all young folks that way?
  23. He's a high school student. You (I assume) are a high school graduate, possibly a college graduate. Let's look at some of your gems of English.... "I am just glad they are other people in LC that believe and see the same things as I do. If that hurts yours feelings or you are a LC coach that is just to bad the facts are the facts. If you read the responses on here, there are more people who have took off their blinders and can see the truth. Just look at the records of the teams that LC have played and tell me how great of a job is being done in LC." "Also you talk about about great players in the past and I grant you their have been some at LC, but without these average players playing around them, they would not have become great players" "The arm chair coaches like you are the ones that can't see what is going on that As for the not knowing who I am I guess you dreamed that you talked the coaches because they know who I am and that my resume backs up my stats." "As a good coach you have shape your team around the players you have." "I know you are loyal to you coach as you should be, but there is problems." Wow. These examples don't include obvious typos or sentences that were run together. Where did you get your BS degree (pun intended)? I sincerely hope the OSU job works out for you.
