  1. After this weekend who knows where this team could be headed. Both senior captains, Zillon Porter and Micah Smith, went down with injuries. Porter, the quaterback and free safety, broke his non-throwing arm and had surgery on Saturday. More than likely out for the season but a possibilty of playing some down the road is still in the works. I'd say quaterbacking is probably out of the question. Smith, mr. whateveryouneed on offense and strong safety (leading tackler), went down with a knee injury and results are being awaited. Hopefully we will see him back on the field soon. Hate it for both of these boys who have worked so hard to keep a competitive nature intact on Old Hickory Blvd after the departure of Coach Paul Wade. Fellow senior Steven Davis will move over from reciever to take snaps at QB. Really hope to see Porter and Smith back out on the field because neither of them deserve to go out this way, really hate it for them.
  2. Davidson wins by 14, Williams has 250+ and 3 scores. Unless DA has turnovers they march down field to pay dirt all night. (lets just hope this time that its not like last week and fail on 4th and goal from the 1 inch line twice!!!)
  3. I like Davidson and Webb, both by 14.
  4. Last year this game went into OT with Davidson going for 2 and getting it for the win in the first OT. I'm afraid both squads are considerably down from last year, but should be a great game and a great atmosphere none the less. What do yall think? The only thing I know about SBEC is the quaterback's numbers look real solid and if I'm not mistaking they're coming from a two-way starter. Davidson's had two consecutive weeks off and I just don't know how comfortable I am about that thought. Judging strictly off of last years game and what I know of Davidson this year, I'm going with 21-14 Davidson.
  5. Great game, great atmosphere, wonderful time. The outcome wasn't what us Davidson fans were looking for, but it happens. I will say this, with all the talk of Webb's line being new this year and down from last year, that didn't show one bit. I wish that at Davidson we could say we were down on the line and still be as big as what yall had out there. We have 1 200 pounder, thats down.
  6. Well thank you. Might have to stop and try a burger. Can't wait to be up there. It's getting to that exciting time of year and I can not wait for kick off. See you guys there and best of luck!
  7. haha, where should i be looking to eat before the game. anything "hole in the wall" that i should know about?
  8. lets have a hypothetical, if Davidson was to lose to Webb this Friday are we allowed to complain that the field was too dry or the grass was too short???
  9. I can handle that. I, for one, look forward to seeing that in action! Hopefully we will do enough to keep the ball out of those guys hands as much as possible. I can't believe that I'm taking part in pre-mature Webb/DA conversations though. Still three more weeks until that match up, can't be slipping up before then!
  10. I'm curious, Webb is always talking about how fast they are. How fast are your kids really? Don't tell me 4.4 because I won't believe it. I'm a Davidson fan, but I'm a realist. Our fastest player on his best day runs a high, high 4.5, legit. On his best day. Just wondering, but please don't waste my time with silly answers, or I'll have to show you NFL combine times just to affirm how ridiculous it is to say you have guys running faster than starting NFL running backs.
  11. Long season ahead before we get to that point. Both teams have a lot of improvement that will occur I'm sure. We look forward to the trip up. Should be a great game on Friday followed by another great one on Saturday! But just cuz I like to have fun, we only need 2 technically. And as far as the rest of the team playing, yes of course. I really wish some people would realize that no matter how incredible Justin is (and this is in no way, shape, or form a bash on Mr. Williams) he couldn't do anything without at least 10 other guys cuz TSSAA wouldn't allow it. It's a shame people think that he is all this team has because the boys over at Davidson proved last year he wasn't the team.
  12. Davidson is coming off a highly emotional victory against a DCA team that was honestly much better than the Bears. Davidson may not be the team they were last year, not even close really, but good teams find ways to win. Look for Davidson to use last weeks game to spring board them onto a winning run. And as I have said before, this isn't a running team. Without the big pass reception by Jordan Williams last week on the game winning drive, no victory. Look for him to get increasingly better over his career.
  13. The bears won't be a running team, if they are they will lose. The Cascade game was a good game, but Cascade did what they had to do to win and Davidson did what they had to to lose, i.e. turn the ball over and drop passes. This years Davidson team will win or lose depending on whether or not the recieving corp decides to show up on Friday nights. They pass 20 times a night and catch it, they're lethal. They don't catch it then it doesn't matter.
  14. Look for Davidson, under Coach Alexander, to be just as sucessful as ever. with arguably more talent coming up than Davidson has ever seen (speaking for the talent as a group, not seperating anyone), this could be a very easy spot for Alexander. There isn't much to talk about in the size category, but skilled positions abound for this young team. Looking at possibly the best 2 back tandom in the state of TN next yr with Williams (sr.) and Dixon (jr.), along with Porter (soph.) returning at qb who (for all forseeable purposes) will start every game of his highschool career. good luck to the bears and coach Alexander. Also want to wish coach Wade the best in all his journies and thank him for his time and efforts at Davidson.
  15. We couldn't run the clock out by taking knees. We had to try and get a first down, believe it may have been 3rd down. We ran a reverse putting the ball into the hands of a senior captain playmaker (a play call that I liked and a play that had worked for Davidson all season). Unfortunately it didn't work out for us. I think I'm gonna call it a season though. It was a great run, hopefully next yr we can find a line because we return the playmakers, just need some blocking. Good luck to USJ and Knox Webb next week. I pray for the safest game possible and may the best team win.
  16. c'mon now baseballordie. After talking to the USJ players after the game, seeing the obvious joy displayed by the kids after winning (must admit that even though DA lost the game it's still awesome to see the way a kid reacts when he gets a chance to play for a state championship), and even encouraging the USJ players and parents in their up coming venture, you tearing me apart. Let a group of guys (and parents for that matter) represent themselves by the way they play and act and get off your computer because all you are doing is making them look bad and I'm sure they do not appreciate it. I was very pleased with how this past Friday went, with the obvious execption of the outcome, and really enjoyed being around the Bruin fan base. But you, baseballordie, are really a terrible representation of an otherwise very pleasant group of people.
  17. www.tennessean.com/article/.../Septembe ... ss+to+gunk this may or may not work because it is a link to The Tennessean's archives which I believe they empty out (seems like) every week. You can however still read that the article was titled "September Rains turn Grass to Gunk". many middle tennessee schools aren't even playing home playoff games on their own fields due to the damage created by rain. so please drop this issue, Davidson didn't wet the field no more than say Maplewood or Stratford tried to destroy theirs.
  18. its football season so go DIE
  19. haha ExSpartan, you may be my favorite poster. Always realistic with a little humor here and there. Having nothing to do with the game, I'm not making a prediction but I hope for everyone's sake that this is a great high school football game, free from injury. Safe travels to all D-II fans spanning the state tomorrow night.
  20. I look to see Davidson stop the big play. It's been their Achilles heel all season!! If they can force a team to drive on them all night long then they should do well during the playoffs. If Davidson keeps SBEC from breaking loose then don't be suprised to see Davidson win by 3 scores plus.
  21. nice post wildcat. u made some good points about the game and how it should play out. it should be a close game 4 sure. if dca has above average lines then they will give webb trouble like da did. ur right that webb has speed at rb at all 3 positions so if webbs o line can block dca better than they did against da then i would expect them to be able to run. the 1 thing about webbs defense besides the d line needing to step up is they have very fast lbs and dbs, prolly the fastest dca has seen so far. I like both of these posts. I don't know what throwing the ball on a good d-line has to do with anything, but none the less these are posts that make sense. Good luck to both teams, really hate that I am going to be missing this one!
  22. Like I said, DA is susceptible to the big play and that is what lost the DCA as well as what nearly lost the Knox Webb game. Davidson outplayed DCA, but final scores are all that matters. Davidson is going to run the ball against most anyone, in all honesty this line is very good (not just a fan speaking but someone that knows (thinks he does at least) quite a bit of football). The pass isn't terrible though, Lewis won't throw it in big games, but Porter can be quite efficient now that he is getting used to the speed of the high school game.
  23. This is quite an obvious statement seeing as Justin was really the only person to carry the ball. DCA Totals: Justin Williams 36 carries, 286 yards, 3 TDs Aubry Dixon 7 carries, 35 yards - 5 yards a carry is considered getting through a defense Season Totals: justin williams 98 carries 841 yrds 8.58 avg 11 TDs Aubry Dixon (sophomore) 111 carries 833 yrds 7.51 avg 7 TDs 36 carries, 161 yards 2 TDs vs Knox Webb Jequan Lewis (freshman) - the other qb that played in the webb game (19 carries, 70 yards) got no carries in the DCA game. He started playing to help take the pressure off of Dixon after Williams injury without having to rely on the freshman Porter's Passing Zillon Porter (freshman) 30/48 on the season, 488 yards, 4 TDs, 2 INTs, 10.16yds/ATT, 16.26yds/COMP Webb's defense, if they are able to keep DCA away from the big play (the same way they did DA with the exception of one TD pass) will do a very good job of holding DCA down. Davidson allowed 181 yards on 8 pass plays and 75 yards on the Wildcats remaining 26 plays. Davidson also only passed for 33 yards as the freshman Porter had a difficult night during his first passing test. I'm getting at two things really: 1) (most important to me as a Davidson supporter) Davidson can crush a team all night and then lose because they give up way to many big plays. 2) My prediction for the Webb DCA game is Webb by at least 14 - home field advantage and the fact that Webb won't let DCA beat them by the big plays makes a difference. Also expect Webb to be fairly successful passing Friday night.
  24. I got a chance to see film of the game today from a buddy that filmed it. The issue with the coaches during the shaking of hands didn't involve in any shape, form, or fashion Coach Wade acting like he was going to charge or do anything else to anyone. It's obvious by watching it that one of the coaches from Webb made a comment while walking by Coach Wade that made him turn around and try to confront the coach. This coach walked away from Coach Wade and was pushed towards his sidelines by what looked to be the Webb Head Coach (not exactly sure who is which). Davidson coaches did stand in front of Coach Wade, but at no time did anything he did look threatening.
  25. It's not Knox Webb hurt themselves more effectively, its Davidson stopped them very effectively. And if you noticed the same delay of game was called on Davidson earlier in the game. When the ball is snapped before it is chopped into play by the referee it is a delay of game. An awkward situation yes, but the right call both times, definetly.
