  1. Cookeville traveled to Oakland HS today and scrimmaged both Brentwood and Oakland. Could someone please post how the scrimmage went for all the teams involved.
  2. The Cavs and Owls should be one of the better week 0 games. Both are predicted to contend for their region and Cavs continue to set their sights higher every year. I believe the game will be extremely close. Defense will set the tone for this game and the Cavs will win by 3.
  3. Center is one of the toughest positions to play. Making blocking calls, shotgun snaps, blitz pickups and trying to make blocks on nose guards or linebackers, is extremely difficult. Also, many centers also perform long snapping for punts. Talk about being out on a island by yourself. It takes mental and physical toughness to play this position.
  4. Week 0 Cookeville vs Ooltewah would be a excellent game to cover. Both should be strong contenders for their region and they have not played each other in several years.
  5. Hopefully the Cavs will repeat and 3-5A champs again. They will be a very strong team to deal with again this year.

    Region 3-5A

The Cavs should be a repeat champ in the region. Depends on how they handle being considered one of the better teams in 5A.
  7. Based on my experience, this is how I would approach the college recruiting issue with a upcoming freshman. The 9th and 10th grade year, keep your grades up, very important in the long run and let the young man enjoy playing the game without having to worry about playing football in college. Maybe attend one or two postition camps during the summer, if you can. Make sure that you check the camp out because some are substandard at best. If the fire is still there in the 11th grade, continue to keep up your grades and try to maintain a 3.0 GPA minimum and begin to take your ACT or SAT. Do not wait until your senior year to start this process. Let your High School football coach and position coach know that you want to play football after high school. Do not depend on your coach to do your leg work for you. He may have the time to help you out, but remember his job is to coach a high school team, not find a college that will recruit you. Senior year, attend football camps during the summer before your senior year. Try to go to the camps of schools you may be interested in attending. Many D-1AA and NAIA schools have football websites, with access to recruiting applications. If you are not a "sure thing" D-1 prospect, fill out the recruiting application. Make sure that you stress your academic and athletic accomplishments. Remember that very few players actually get offered D-1 grant in aids. There are many smaller schools that offer a quality education along with football. Consider sending game film to these schools early during the fall of the senior year. A football resume is also a good thing to have. If a school does not come looking for you, then go looking for them. Consider partial athletic and academic scholarships. Many schools use this formula to get the talent they need. Good luck, but remember to let the young man determine what he wants to do after high school football
  8. The Cavaliers return 30 plus seniors this year and many of them were starters from last years 11-2 team. I look for this to be the top game for week 0. Very important game for both teams early on and I think the Cavs come out on top and prepare for another good season. Cookeville has just about reached the point that they just reload every season. Joslin is a excellent coach and the program is getting better every year. Go CAVS
  9. Cookeville and Ooltewah open their season on Week 0, August 19th. It would be impossible to say which game would be the biggest game of the year until the season progresses, but a huge matchup between two very good teams. The Cavs should have 30 plus returning seniors and Ooltewah should also have many returning seniors. Biggest game in 5A to start the season and the Cavs should come out on top.
  10. Congratulations to the Cavs on your opening day win. Sounds like it was a very exciting game to watch. Cookeville has a solid team this year and I cannot wait to watch them play this year. Go Cavs!
  11. Joslin should be selected for the great coaching job he did this year.
  12. Congradulations to the Cavs on a great year. This season was definitely something to be proud of. The Cavs were not the most athletic or talented team, but your heart and pride made you one of the best teams in the state. You guy's played with such determination to win, that it truly made me proud to be a Cavalier parent and fan. As mentioned in a earlier post, you left the program in the best shape ever. To the Cav seniors, you guy's have led by example for years and you are a class act to follow. I look for the Cavs to reload next year and continue to make the program better. Also, thanks to Coach Joslin for exibiting such strong leadership skills and leading by example. You are definitely tops on my coaches list. Good luck to next years Cavs and I look forward to another year of Cavalier football.
  13. The Cavaliers are playing their biggest game of the season Friday night and I know, without a doubt, they will be ready for Riverdale. I am proud to say that I am a diehard Cav fan and support our team without question. We can win and with the heart and soul of this years team, it is possible to beat Riverdale. They had also better be ready for the Cav fans, because we definitely do not mind letting everyone in the stadium know who our favorite team is. To all the Cav players, I just wanted to tell you that all of your parents and fans are very proud of your efforts this year and what a class team you guys have been a part of this year. Play like champions and you will be a winner. ****1st Samuel chapter 17****
  14. That is very possible. The Cavs defense has scored several touchdowns and a safety this year.
  15. Cavs had better be ready Friday night or FC will give them a reality check. They are a good 6-3 team and they will play for 4 quarters. If you think about it, remember what happened last year in Winchester. Cavs won the 1st half and lost the 2nd half and game to FC. They would love to do it again.
  16. Cookeville Cavs Jerry Joslin would get my vote. He knows how to bring out Cookeville's strengths and minimize its weakness. Excellent motivatior and the players respect him. A good role model for his players.
  17. Congradulations to Livingston Academy on the win last night. Keep up the mo and take one game at a time. It is great to see teams in the upper cumberland region doing good. Again, way to go LA.
  18. Until someone knocks Riverdale off, they are the numero uno team in the state. However, I am going to throw out a long shot team as the second best team in the state. 4A Hillwood High school, is rolling through their schedule, with their talented skill players. They are taking down some very good teams.
  19. Good luck tonight Cavs. Play hard tonight and lets take control of the region. Both teams are evenly matched, so it is gut check time for you guys. Go out tonight with intensity and pride and win this game!
  20. Hats off to the Cavs last night. They played with intensity and fortitude and found a way to win the game. Coffee Co. is a good team, but I believe they underestimated Cookeville's talent and desire to win. A hard fought Friday night game. It does not get any better than that, especially when the Cavs win.
  21. On a hot day, drink a sports drink before practice, water during practice and another sports drink at the conclusion of practice. If practice is extremely hot, a sports drink towards the end of practice is

    Teams at camp

Cookeville heads to Eastern Kentucky for a 4 day camp. I believe Father Ryan will be there along with several Kentucky schools. Should be good competition.
  23. Cookeville will be strong at the skill positions this year with improved speed and some new offensive twists. Many returning starters from last year and game experience should benefit the Cavs. Maybe the Cavs might throw a little more this year? The offense will be more wide open, but to what extent, I am not sure.
  24. No way should Warren Co. move down in classification. They have 1654 students and they are the 22nd largest high school in the state by number of students. They are not even close to the 4A cutoff number. Moving down is not the answer.
  25. The Cavs should be very competitive this year, returning 16 starters from last year. Everybody can say who will beat who, but I know the Cavs will bring out a strong team this year. Look for some surprises from them this year.
