  1. Both teams will score some points, both teams have excellent tailbacks and solid QBs, but in the end, I think Fulton is stronger in the trenches. I'd love to pick Powell, but I think Fulton wins, 28-21.
  2. What can I say? In the end, I thought my effort would be futile, but I tried anyway. Kudos to him for compromising with me. At least there are some fans on here who will listen to reason when things get out of hand. I just wanted to talk about the upcoming game, rather than listen to a bunch of "your momma's so fat" slurs.
  3. I agree, definitely Maryville-Alcoa, even though it is a Thursday night game. For Friday night, there are three big games I'd like to see: Powell @ Fulton Dobyns-Bennett @ Clinton Oak Ridge @ Farragut
  4. Anderson County's definitely got a great team, probably the best in the district. It will be interesting to see how many points they put on the board against Morristown East, who got throttled by Fulton last weekend.
  5. Sounds good to me. I do my best to keep things calm, and I appreciate your civility. I like DB's chances on Friday night, and good luck this season!
  6. I agree, I don't like it when someone gets on these boards and does a lot of trash talking (especially without facts to back it up). DB, because I reside in Knoxville, the only thing I have to go on are these run-ins on Coacht, both positive and negative. I do respect DB, because of their history and tradition, but I don't respect the trash talk that I constantly see on many DB threads (not all), which is why I singled out some select DB fans, not the entire fan base/program. I realize that you have to defend your team when someone trashes you or DB, but at what point does it become futile or even detrimental to DB's cause? The more trash talk/criticism, the more people associate that negativity with the DB program. For someone like me, who doesn't live in the tri-cities (and doesn't see DB week in and week out), I am more influenced by the fan reaction/fandom than I am their actual play. Fan base that is best at deflecting trash talk on Coacht? Maryville fans, hands down, and I respect them more than anyone on Coacht for that very reason. Both the team and the fans just go about their business, and they just win. Hard not to respect that. I'm sure there are many DB fans that are the same way, but I've just seen quite a few DB fans (on Coacht) that aren't like that.
  7. Haters or not, don't take it so personally. I don't hate DB. I have nothing against DB, and I have nothing against you. I can see why you/DB have so many haters though. You developed a pretty serious case of diarrhea of the mouth as soon as you heard something that you did not like, truth or not. There's nothing noble or proud about saying that you "finish" what others start on here. That's like wearing a tattoo on your forehead that says 'I'm with stupid', without the arrow. That's not the purpose of this message board. I've been discussing high school sports on here since Coacht's partnership with rivals ended in 2001, and trash/crap talk belongs somewhere else. Sadly, I'm just as guilty for saying something negative about a few DB fans. I have nothing against DB. I pointed out what I believed to be obvious, and you jumped on me for making a simple observation. Now we're both doing the exact same thing - talking crap, which is ridiculous. I'm willing to bury the hatchet (no pun intended), and I hope that you realize that while I'm sure there are some DB haters out there, there aren't as many as you think. However, when you act/react like you have with me (and some of your others posts), Coacht users associate fans like you with the DB program, and not in a positive way.
  8. Pretty much says it all, doesn't it? And for the record, I'm not from Tennessee. Did the photo not give that away?
  9. I apologize to those of you reading this thread for having to read this BS between DB2010 and myself. I walked away from this guy, and clearly he wasn't able to do the same. Silly me for thinking that a 5 day old message board troll could actually take some criticism, or even let it go. For the record, I'd love to be able to say that Powell earned 13 state titles. I respect the DB program a great deal not just for their history, but for what they've done for high school football statewide. DB is still a storied program, despite their lack of playoff success. However, I made a simple statement about a select few DB trolls on Coacht, and you pretty much proved my point. "Wow, you guys make my head hurt. DB is a storied program - 13 'official' state titles, all before the playoff era, is quite impressive. But some of you DB fans do an awful lot of talking for a program that has never once played in a TSSAA state title game, combined with a losing playoff record. I get sick of some Oak Ridge fans doing a lot of talking too, but at least they have 4 titles and a runner-up finish in the playoff era (plus 4 additional 'official' state titles)." That kind of trash talk is reserved for the Maryville's, the Alcoa's, etc - teams that repeatedly beat the state's elite and win state titles. We are all patiently waiting for DB to return to those so-called glory days, just like I know you are. And of course, like a little punk, you brought your dog and pony show over to a Powell thread. Give me some credit - you, WaCo, and Cap had some ridiculous banter going in the Clinton-DB thread, kinda like 3 rednecks arguing over paternity test results on the Maury Povich Show. I simply wanted to get back to talking about the upcoming game between DB and Clinton, because [gasp], Clinton plays in our district. Since you are likely working on getting your driver's license, or counting down the days until you can legally buy a 6-pack, here's your homework assignment (as if I have to ask). Rebuttal - because I know it's coming either way.
  10. I'm a football fan, and I happen to read thread's about many other teams (not just Powell). I just found it funny that every week, the DB thread is usually the biggest, and it seems to be full of these "quality" posts. Why don't you just let it go and actually talk about this week's game? Isn't that what this thread was supposed to be about? I think if you look back through this thread, there were some good posts about the upcoming game against Clinton. Since everyone seems to want to have the last word, I thought I'd just throw some more kerosene on the fire.
  11. Swing and a miss. I'm a Powell fan, so I have absolutely no dog in this fight.
  12. Wow, you guys make my head hurt. DB is a storied program - 13 "official" state titles, all before the playoff era, is quite impressive. 13. I haven't been able to figure that one out either, pxtra. The last few years, these message boards have had a number of Halls fans posting, and this year, they've been few and far between. I have no clue where all of them have gone.
  14. I apologize if I sounded confrontational. I do see where you are coming from. However, after reading through this entire thread, very few people thought that Clinton would cruise against Halls. I think there was an equal number of people on this message board that picked Halls, especially since Clinton was without their starting QB and had graduated so much star power during the off-season. It had to be heartbreaking for those Halls kids to lose such a close game, especially after dominating the turnover margin, but give Clinton some credit for keeping their composure and winning the game despite 6 giveaways.
  15. I don't have a dog in the fight, but Halls won the turnover battle handily, 6-0, and even scored on a couple of INT returns, and yet they still couldn't put this game away. Tough to say that Halls was the "true winner" when they had every opportunity to put the game away, and still lost. Am I missing something here?
  16. Both Powell and Fulton looked very good in week 0. Powell cruised against SD, while Fulton dominated a telented Morristown East squad. Fulton is easily one of the best teams in East Tennessee, and may be the team to beat in 4A this year. This is a major litmus test for the Panthers. Last year's game was close, and although Powell outgained the Falcons, Fulton edged the Panthers by a touchdown. Anderson County, Oak Ridge, and Clinton will all be big games, but I'll argue that this is Powell's toughest game of the regular season. Anyone have a prediction?
  17. I'm glad you brought that up, HTV. I said the same thing to my wife last night. Powell put their JV and freshmen QBs and backs into the game early in the 4th quarter, while SD kept their starters in until the final whistle. Kudos to Coach Lowe and his staff for giving those younger kids their share of playing time.
  18. Same story as last year. In a way, Halls had to come out and win this game. I don't know if there is another "winable" game for them until October. Not only do they play the top 3 teams in the district before then, but Webb and Sevier County are very good football teams. At this point, I will be very surprised if they aren't 0-6 when they face Karns on October 1st.
  19. Next week will be a real litmus test for both Powell and Fulton. Powell can obviously move the football and score. The Panthers scored on 7 of their 8 drives last night (without turning the ball over). The only time Powell didn't score was after a 78-yard TD run by Darian Logan was called back for holding, which eventually led to their only punt. The bigger questions will be how they pursue the football against a fast team like Fulton, can they get penetration against an experienced Fulton O-Line, and how will their secondary perform against a QB like Winters.
  20. Halls had to be just sick to their stomach after this game. Six takeaways and no giveaways? Kudos to Clinton for such a hard-fought victory, plus overcoming so much adversity.
  21. HTV, is kickoff still planned for 7:30 tonight, despite the high heat index threat?
  22. I'm glad to hear that the sinkhole issue has been fixed, for the time being.
  23. Fulton definitely looks like they are back to being a real juggernaut. Have they announced where that game is going to be played?
  24. I expect SD to be better this year (with 19 starters returning), but the Cherokees are still very young. Last year's game was extremely sloppy (plus, it's week 0). If not for so many Panther turnovers, that game would have been even worse. I didn't really see much from SD against Bearden in their scoreless tie at the jamboree/glorified scrimmage, but apparently Bearden's starters only played for about 3 plays, according to the News Sentinel. HTV, didn't Powell have 4 or 5 turnovers in last year's game? SD will have to be much improved, because they looked very discombobulated at times during last year's 31-0 drubbing.
  25. Despite a couple of turnovers in the jamboree, Powell held their own against Catholic (much like last year). The Fulton game next week is huge, but South Doyle cannot be overlooked, especially in Week 0. In the end, I think Powell has too much talent on both sides of the ball. Powell wins, 38-7. HTV, have the Panthers avoided the injury bug during practice/scrimmages so far this year?
