  1. It's nice to see both teams playing well, and it should be an interesting game. Halls has surprised a lot of folks this year so far, myself included. I think their defense has been the biggest surprise, but they haven't really played any big dogs yet. I'm leaning toward Powell in a close one.
  2. Good win for the Panthers. Hopefully they can do the same next week against Halls.
  3. I'll give Keith credit - He's made Soles look silly on more than a few plays.
  4. If they want to make a playoff run, they will have to get something going in the passing game.
  5. I think they are doing the same with #2. He and Wheeler have taken a lot of hits through 5 games already.
  6. He's still in there. They are trying to limit his carries at this point.
  7. Agreed SS. Those fumbles weren't even close.
  8. Boy Clinton has gotten hosed on a couple of non-fumbles. Jeez.
  9. I've never really understood it, Barney. I grew up in Powell/Heiskell, and Karns really wasn't much different, as far as the schools are concerned. Just your typical middle-class suburban school, and certainly not a "failing" school by any means. My niece graduated from there a few years ago, and what I saw wasn't much different from what I experienced growing up in that area. The proximity of GCA and HVA definitely doesn't help, but the Karns zone has shifted more to the east and contains the entire Emory Road corridor west of Clinton Hwy, which used to be part of the Powell zone. Even before GCA and HVA opened, Karns was a doormat on the gridiron, and I've never really understood why. They've played in the largest classification for almost their entire history, which hasn't helped, but they've been competitive in a lot of other sports. HTV has mentioned this before, but I know that their baseball program hasn't exactly encouraged their players to compete in multiple sports. Not sure how much that has played into their lack of football success, but it could be a factor.
  10. I don't think they are at an all-time low. They aren't very good, but they've had some really bad teams over the years. Back in the late 80s, they had a team that scored 17 points for an entire 10-game season. When Tobi Kilgore was in his first year (2015 I think), they were winless and gave up almost 50 points per game. What Desean Bishop/Karns did the last two seasons is remarkable when you look at their history. They've had twenty(!) 1-win seasons or worse. Not only was that 2021 playoff win against WV their first ever playoff victory, it was the most wins (7) for the program since they won 8 games back in 1969 and 1971; the only other time Karns has won more than 8 games in a season was back in 1958 when they went 10-1 (Powell spoiled their perfect season).
  11. It'll be interesting to see how they choose to handle Soles. He was backfield on almost every snap last week.
  12. I think West is better than Powell, but they definitely aren't miles apart. I watched the entire Powell-Farragut game, and it was relatively even, although I felt that the Panthers let that one slip away. This is a very interesting game for Powell and Clinton because it's clear that both teams are still finding their footing. Clinton got thumped by two quality opponents to open the season, but they appear to have recovered somewhat. This is a key stretch for them, with OR and AC in back to back games after this one. The Panthers have proven that they can run the football effectively, but they really need to take some strides in the passing game and in the defensive secondary. Keith has given Powell's defense fits in the past, and that could loom large given their struggles in coverage this season already.
  13. Gah, I completely forgot about Dodgeball. That is another good one!
  14. Such a quotable movie. The scene where Bill Murray is describing the time he caddied for the Dalai Lama in Tibet still cracks me up. Pick up that blood. You owe me one gumball machine.
  15. This will probably garner a few down votes, but Baseketball is still my all-time favorite "sports" movie. Caddyshack, Slapshot, Major League, and Hoosiers are a few of my other favs.
  16. Good win for OR. Too many red zone turnovers for Powell in the first half, and no answers for those big plays from OR in the second half.
  17. Nope. That explains why they've been playing 10 yards off the line of scrimmage most of the night.
  18. Man, at this rate, Wheeler and Rodgers aren't going to be able to walk come October. They have taken a beating through 3 games.
  19. I feel like this is going to be a theme for Powell a lot this season. Their margin of error is minimal this year.
  20. Yup, that running into the kicker call was a terrible call too.
  21. I'm not sure if I'd call that "even", but that early whistle was a pretty awful call as well.
