  1. Da Bears: The places you have listed are all good but up in Franklin. There are some good eats as well up at the Franklin exit, the Cool Spings exit and the Brentwood exit all on I-65. The problem is that they are a good drive up the road from the venue. Great for dinner or, if you have along break, lunch. But if you only have maybe 45 minutes between matches you want to see, you might be pushed to get there and back if you do not want to eat at the concession stand. Only because you must be friend of rival poster Bayou Bear , I'm going to let you in on a place I was tipped off about by FRA Coach Marc Taylor that is only minutes from the venue. Its called the Hen Peck Market. Come out of the ag center, turn right, go back over the interstate, go to the first light (Lewisburg Pike), turn right, and it is about a mile up the road on your left, right behind a BP station. it takes about ten minutes, max, to get there from the ag center. Several of us went there for lunch on Saturday. They have really good burgers and fresh cooked fires, many varieties of deli type sandwiches---they have a deli bar----and things like cold fried chicken, chicken salad, tuna salad, pasta salad, etc,---------- even a fried bologna sandwich on artisan bread. It looks like they have a catering operation. During the weekdays, but not on Saturday, they also have a "meat and three" hot bar. Food is excellent. A lot of locals there eating. I had an excellent large burger and fries, one guy had the regular size burger and fries, and the biggest one of us, who is always testing out his feminine side, had some sort of turkey, bacon and avocado on artisan bread sandwich that he described as " marvelous". I highly recommend you try this place during the day on Friday or Saturday. Don't know how late it stays open, so dinner may not be an option. But they do make the sandwiches to go, so you could send somebody out for a sandwich run and bring the food back to you. Give it a try, but don't tell the world about it. There are only about 8-10 tables in the back of the market and we want to be able to get a seat. BTW---the brisket at Judge Beans up at the Brentwood exit on Friday was good and the meat was falling off the ribs.
  2. I would say that's right except I think Kyle Maynard showed us anything could happen. Looks like Aguilar is going to try...........from this morning's Chattanoogan.com: Bradley's Aguilar Hopes To Wrestle In Region Friday Doctor Will Have Final Say Concerning Elbow Injury by John Hunt posted February 8, 2010 CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- If Vince Aguilar didn't have bad luck, he might not have any luck at all. This young man has endured more in the past four years than most people have to put up with in a lifetime, but he still has hope that all will turn out okay. Aguilar is the 145-pound wrestler for the Bradley Bears who spent much of Saturday night in a Franklin hospital emergency room after dislocating and hyperextending his elbow during his match against Cleveland in the championship finals of the TSSAA State Duals tournament. He was released some five hours after arriving and got back home about 8 a.m. on Sunday. ......................................................................................................................................... The Bears begin defense of their Region title in Alcoa on Friday and this young man is planning to be ready to wrestle when his name is called. "I'm going back to the doctor Tuesday and I hope he releases me to wrestle this weekend," Aguilar said Monday afternoon while the rest of his teammates were going through their usual workout drills. "I'm planning to wrestle this weekend. It's my senior year and my last chance to win a state medal," he continued. He was leading 8-3 entering the third period of his match Saturday. Assuming the down position, he tried to get a reversal, but when he posted his arm to pivot, his elbow popped out of joint and he crumbled to the mat in intense pain. What had been a spirited match where fans from both teams were making lots of noise became deathly silent as trainers, coaches and officials came to his aid. The match was delayed for what seemed like an eternity as an ambulance was called to assist him. This fellow has endured more than his share of pain in recent years, but nothing to compare with this. "That was probably the worst pain I've ever felt in my entire life. That was my first time in the State Duals and I thought my career was over when it happened. "I cried out of pain and disappointment that I couldn't be present to celebrate with the rest of my teammates. "I'm sad I can't be out there right now, but I'm thinking there's at least a 50-50 chance I'll be able to wrestle on Friday," he added. ....................................................................................................................................... Bradley coach Steve Logsdon would love nothing more than to have Vince Aguilar in uniform on Friday. "That's a decision between the doctor and his mother. It's not mine to make," Logsdon said during a break from practice. "It's a pain issue as it won't get hurt any worse. It could pop out again and he would have to endure more pain, but I don't know. "I hate to not see a kid like him have a chance. He's paid his dues. That's just not the way you want to see a kid end his career. It's just not fair. "We'll see what the doctor says on Tuesday. Even if he gets the okay to wrestle, he won't practice this week as we'll rest that arm as much as possible. "We'll put him on that stationary bike. I guarantee he can get a great workout there without affecting his arm. "I hope more than anyone that he'll be able to go on Friday as he's capable of sooring a lot of points for us. "If he's not able to go, we'll see what our other options are and go from there," Logsdon concluded. The Bears will be returning to the Williamson County Agricultural Expo Center on Feb. 18-20 to defend their traditional state title. The Bears have won the last two traditional tournaments and seven of the last nine. Vince Aguilar just hopes that he's there with them as a participant and not a spectator. (Email John Hunt at tnmoose2002@aol.com)
  3. Not in any way shape or form. just my thought about the timing of when the competitions are held and the purpose that each presents itself to for its participants. Pumm: I think what Star is referring to is your title. I too was confused. Given where we were this past weekend, and all the pre-tournament jokes about wrestling in The Cow Palace, I figured this was humorous jab about changing the location of the duals for next year. Unless it was your subconscious speaking, I think there is an "r" missing from your intended title that led to Star's comment.
  4. Star, my friend, I don't care what BCB says, you are truly the master of this board. In addition to running the pick'em and doing all the impossible math necessary to determine this year's winners, you have penned Bayou Bear's "Ode to Bear Cat From The Cell of a New Orleans Jail". BCB has posted a few ditties of his own over the years, but he is a mere pretender to your throne. I bow in your presence...................... Bayou, if you have access to a computer in that N'Awlins jail and can get this, once you can lay your hands on a schedule for next year's Bradley matches, please forward it to my attention via this board. I want to see if I should use those two free seats you put up at next year's Bradley- Cleveland AAA duals final or exercise my option to use them during the regular season. Over on another topic, you said that while EBE and TBSFBAG are out of the question, the door is not closed for this year's D-II dual champions to be Fodder Ryan for your hungry Bears next season. If that happens, that is when I will want those two tickets. Congrats on the double dip this weekend, BB. Since you have been spoiled with championships by the Bears, I've gotta ask--------as a long-suffering Saints fan, was the championship last night the sweeter of the two? Be truthful now----and don't take the easy road by saying your blood runs black and gold, since that is both team colors
  5. Star: Thanks again for employing your advanced math skills to come up with the results. My victory fells a little hollow without BCB having participated in the competition-----------he would have been right in the thick of things. Will all the winners this year have an asterik besides their names with the notation " * Bear Cat brown did not compete" ? We may not be hearing from Bayou bear for awhile. The word I am getting is that, still excited over the Bradley win, the Saints upset of the Colts pushed him over the edge. Immediately following the game, he jumped in his car and drove all night to New Orleans to join the festivities. He was arrested this morning on an empty street Because he seemed, at least to a police officer in New Orleans, to be incoherent ----------BB could not identify himself and every time the officer asked him a question, instead of asking for an attorney or taking the fifth, BB kept stating: " I am not saying anything that would validate D-2":
  6. tnmatfan: I did not "post crap like that". Go back and read my post. I never said the kid was disqualified for anything. During Saturday's action someone posted that it looked like the 215 had been disqualified and asked if it was an unsportsmanlike disqualification----Dream2achieve, I believe. Bororef and Cowboy Curtis posted that it was not, that the disqualification was for penalty points. In this morning's Times Free Press, Ward Gosset's article said--not me--- that he was disqualified for an unsportsmanlike penalty and would have to miss the region tournament this week. This was not something I said or even asserted. I posted the statement from the article----not something I said or claimed-------in order to ask if what was written in the article or what had been posted was correct, since I had seen Cowboy Curtis and Bororef's posts which would indicate that the newspaper article was incorrect. I was asking a question, not making a statement. If you will look further , you will also see that I also said that if the article was incorrect, then I thought his coach should contact the paper because "I would think Lewis is entitled to a retraction" of the statement made in the article----which, in newspaper-speak, means an apology. So, why don't you practice what you preach and "have your facts straight before you post crap like that".
  7. The scorebook shows Lewis wrestling now against Franklin so it must not have been an unsportsmanlike DQ. Cowboy/BoroRef: Ward Gossett's article on the D-I finals in this morning's Times Free Press had this paragraph: ".......Science Hill wrestler Josh Lewis' career came to an abrupt halt when he was disqualified during his 215-pound match with Bradley Central's Tucker Bolton. The senior has to sit two dates because of the disqualification, meaning he cannot weigh-in for his region qualifying tournament Friday and Saturday....." Is Gossett wrong on this-----and it would seem he is based on BoroRef's post that it was for too many penalty points? If so, maybe the Science Hill coach should let Gossett since I would think Lewis should be entitled to a retraction.
  8. Watson and Shufford both wrestled agaimst CBHS. Watson picked up a pin at 119 and Shufford lost a decision at 171. It did sound as if there was a chance that Trey Stavrum may be able to return just before the state individuals. Ghouse: Did you mean Hayes or Stavrum? I had heard maybe Hayes might get the ankle ready then. If Baylor can get both back for the individuals, that would give them a real boost. longhorn: Watson looked good with the pin. But Shuford looked like the shoulder really bothered him. I would be surprised if he wrestles at all today. Looks like we are heading to a Baylor-McCallie third place match. McCallie looked strong against Ryan and will be looking to reverse Monday's regular season match. Agree with other posters that the D-2 semis were the best matches of the night. The Baylor match was a good example of why coaches pull their hair out and sometimes go ballistic over bonus points. CBHS got two major decisions late in both matches that gave CBHS a 13 point advantage with two weights left, which they correctly forfeited. Without those bonus points, it is an 11 point spread, CBHS has to wrestle, and Baylor has two of its better kids and capable pinners, Ferguson and Helton, finishing for them in. Kudos to Anthony Simpson of Ryan for a surprisingly quick 52 second pin over Westbrooks. That was big for Ryan. I don't think anyone was expecting a pin there so that was a bonus for The Purple Team.
  9. Bradley and Cleveland are rolling to a show down in the AAA finals. They did not show much mercy-----or any weakness----to their Middle Tennessee opponents last night. Good job East Literature for getting to the A-AA finals after locked out and finishing third for the last three years. Bring that trophy back home to Middle Tennessee------those Chattanooga guys have had it too long now ( NDHS three-peat and Hixson last year since 2005,when FRA won it). Attention all Middle Tennessee Catholics,we have an all mackerel snapping, all purple, D-2 Championship finals. Come out and pick sides, a brother run school vs. a diocesan school. Confessions will be heard in the bathroom stalls beginning at 2 p.m. with mass in the parking lot at 4 p.m. ( and it will count as our Sunday obligation). Should be a great match between these two Catholic institutions with those Chattanooga guys finally wrestling for third place (when was the last time at least one of them wasn't wrestling in the finals?----that was the big news of the first day to me). Go Irish!!!!!!!!!! The Purple Father Ryan kind. Let's get this party started.
  10. Bear Cat Brown has been found. Disguised as a Bradley fan in a black sweatshirt, black pants, dark mocs, and a black visor, the artful dodger slipped into the ag center for yesterday's matches. Most of us were looking for someone in shorts with flip flops, green T-Shirt and beads, so he flew under the radar until my bourbon sniffing search dogs locked in on someone standing on the catwalk overlooking the matches involving two of his favorite teams, TBSFBAG ( vs. The Purple Wave) and TFI (vs. EBE). Once the dogs locked in,that head of curly hair sticking out the top of the visor and the top of a green t-shirt showing underneath the black sweatshirt. He knew he had been made when I approached him as I approached, breaking out into those lyrics from Amazing Grace, " I once was lost but now am found............". Bear Cat said that his recent hiatus was to clear his head and rejuvenate his body, that he was suffering from CoachT burn-out as a result of all the unfair, slanderous and completely unfounded and inaccurate personal attacks that had been directed at him this year, unlike others when he has been revered, particularly those about EFT's detouring into Alabama to hook-up with TFI instead of meeting them here in Nashville as promised to we Middle Tennessee mackerel snappers. So, he slipped away for a week for a little R&R---------though he swears it was not at any of the clubs I listed. He really did not understand all the fuss over his disappearance and was truly touched by our concern, particularly the fact that it was Bayou bear that launched the search. The rest appears to have suited BCB. He looked a little ligther than the last time I saw him. Unfortunately, BCB said that he would not be coming back up today as a result of CBHS and TFI meeting in the D-2 championship stating that : "I told Jim Simpson back in November that he would not see me attending a wrestling match in Middle Tennessee match between two Catholic schools and I intend to stand by that statement". With that , he slipped out of the ag center quietly, without signing autographs. But for those hankering to see him, he hopes to be back in two weeks. Good seeing you BCB ----------- don't be a stranger.
  11. This is good stuff . It includes final scores as well as scores of matches "In Progress". Bradley match is already final---48-9. Thanks Bobvark2, Coach peck or whoever else is doing this. You folks who can't make it up to the Duals today can follow what is happening on this link. Also, if you click on " View'" in the "Select" column on the far left, opposite each weight class in the match results, it gives you the scorekeeper's breakdown of that individual contest---take downs, reversals, escapes, etc.-----just like looking at the scorebook. Great stuff.
  12. Great stuff, Star---just like Bayou Bear on another post---its like getting the Cliff Notes version just before the big test-----couldn't have made it through college without them-----can't wade through CoachT without these

  14. If you had sobered up enough, you would realize that this topic is just a throw down between BB and myself, initiated by BB, where we pick only the top four. The annual Pick'em, where you must pick every match, is under another topic started by Star Raider--- Pick'em For The Rest of Us. Any man who could read could probably have figured that out. You were cordially invited to join in this pick'em given your prior status as guru. So, give us your top four in each division or go back under that rock and come out when you have conquered your demons. We want the old BCB, not this new addled version.
  15. Just when you thought it was safe to go out again......................heeeee's baaaaaack. [sound of chainsaw cranking up in the background]
  16. BB, here they are, read'em and weep: No Financial Aid Play With The Hand You are Dealt Division Big Guys 1. THE Bradley 2. Cleveland 3. Clarksville 4. Franklin Little Guys 1. Hixson 2. East Literature 3. Chattanooga Central 4. Greenback Financial Aid Recruit and Play Division 1. Baylor 2. Father Ryan 3. Christian Bros. 4. McCallie My head tells me that it should be an FR/CBHS final , with FR winning it all. But my gut, which carries more weight, tells me that if I pick that, we will both be picking the same champs, and there needs to be a a clear cut winner in this, so I should go with an upset somewhere to make that happen. I don't see it in D-I. I can see it in D-2 if Watson is healthy for Baylor and the match-ups work out right. So that is where I am going to put my chips on the roulette wheel. If my hunch doesn't pan out, I am really burnt toast and you will be the one to say " it's good to be king". I think I am going to need that good luck you wished me. Star--- I don't think there will be any need for a tie-breaker here, but if it were to happen my total score tiebreaker is 64.
  17. -----------------CoachT tells me the maximum number of smilies is five or I would still be laughing
  18. Game on BB, with the following conditions: 1. Since we won't really know who the winner is going to be until after the finals, the two seat pot kicker needs to be (i) in the Bradley section in next year's finals or (ii) anywhere in the gym at the first ever Baylor vs. Bradley match, whichever first occurs. Given the comments about D-1 and Bradley's schedule being made over on the " Does It Really Matter?" topic, and your "Bradley will do nothing to validate D-2" positional paper set forth under other topics, its likely to be (i). The seats need to be redeemable, at my option, for two seats at any Bradley home wrestling match, including tournaments, on five days advance notice to you on this board. 2. We may need a tiebreaker. In that case, I would suggest that it be the the total team points accumulated by both teams in the D-I championship match. Go ahead and do your tally and send it in. If these conditions are satisfactory, I'll post my finals fours later, as well as my picks on Stars Pick'em board. I'm still working on them----- waiting for a return call from BCB with all the inside scoop.
  19. I feel like I'm in the middle of that Bobby Flay Food Network Show where I need to ask myself " Are you ready for a showdown". And I am ready and loaded for some Bear..............but I do see your point Star. Its a little like one of those poker games in the old western movies where one guy (Bayou Bear) is holding three three aces, the other guy (yours truly) is holding only a pair of jacks, a much weaker hand by comparison, but the Mr. Three Aces only has one small stack of chips that is kind of like a three regular guru Ford truck when compared to the coveted GRAND GURU Lamborghini-like three large stacks of chips that Two Jacks has. Two Jacks pushes those three big stacks out and says, "I'll raise you" what amounts to an impossible sum for Mr. Three Aces to match with his paltry pile of chips. That is when time Mr. Three Aces, knowing he has a better hand and is smarter than Two Jacks, offers something of great value and significance, like the deed to his ranch underneath which there are a billion barrels of oil, to match the raise and stay in the game. It seems like that is what you are describing: my D-2 Lamborghini up against his D-1 Ford Truck (I believe that is how the difference in school parking lots has been compared on the topic " Does it Matter?" ), my Grand Guru for his three regular gurus, winner take all with the right to proclaim " It is good to be King". So, Star, in BCBs absence, what do you feel that BB should offer to make the risk equal? How about that tape of BCB's that was confiscated? Or free sidelines passes to the historic TBSFBAG vs. TBSFMAW match--------no. wait, I'll be dead before that happens. You name it. I do feel like something is missing, however. Seems to me that the Grand Guru for 2008 should also be invited to the party. BCB ( or Nick Gulas), if you are out there watching, are you ready for a three-way? If you are interested, then "come get some".
  20. Does anyone else smell more than cow poo at the ag center on this one? Hmm, let's see, a guy named "Nick Gulas" suddenly makes his appearance and first post on this board today, February 4, 2010, following a series of posts yesterday expressing heartfelt concern for the well-being of missing board guru Bear Cat Brown, whose only appearance ( maybe ) since signing off to go tape the 112 match " for personal use" at Ooltewah a week ago has been a drive-by slap at D2 under another topic. Hmm, let's see, BCB's long-time side kick in trash talking and pillaging the village of Clarksville during state duals was "Harry T.", who named himself after longtime Chattanooga professional wrestling broadcaster Harry Thornton. Harry T rode off into the North Georgia sunset and his posts have been few and far between since his son finished his stellar wrestling career at EFT. It is obvious that BCB has missed playing off his fellow Irishman. Hmmm, lets see, legendary wrestling promoter Nick Gulas, along with partner Roy Welch, made Chattanooga one of the major stopovers in the professional wrestling circuit that covered parts of Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kentucky. Gulas used television to supplement his promotion in Chattanooga so, in the late50s/early 60s, he hooked up with Chattanooga broadcasting legend Harry Thornton. Thornton became Gulas' Chattanooga co-promoter and ran a weekly TV wrestling show until about 1980. And who was one of the main attractions for Gulas and Thornton? None other than Bearcat Brown. So, with those links to the name Nick Gulas, BCB suddenly going silent, and someone suddenly appearing as Nick Gulas, I think that we may have BCB trying to bring back a " Harry T." persona in order to have someone to play off of by creating an alternate screen name for himself. I'm thinking we have just located BCB in the name of Nick Gulas----------they are one and the same. Think about it, who else but BCB would want to talk about himself to himself? And that would be characteristic of the real Bearcat Brown. Physically, he was the polar opposite of our curly haired little Irishman-----big, bad, bleached blonde hair and one of a handful of black wrestlers on the Gulas circuit at the time. However, like BCB, he was a smooth talker who liked to "style and profile". Welcome back under your alternate screen name, BCB. Look forward to seeing you at the ag center. Sorry, my wife won't let you shower at my place, but don't worry, the fire hall around the corner says I can bring you by for a good hosing down before you head back to Moo-ga.
  21. tnlonghorn: Any word on Watson's status for the boys in red tights? What about Shuford? Those two might make a difference for TBSFBAG against CBHS. If not, then we may be looking at an all mackerel snapping, all purple ( Wave vs. Irish), finals in D-II. Is Sidd Finch ready yet?
  22. Bayou: The fact that Mr. Jones admits that he has not forgotten camera-gate and will not let you use his chopper to search for BCB concerns me. However, unless Raider76 has hijacked BCB's laptop and is posting under his name, the drive by shot at D2 he posted under another topic ( BTW---you are not going to reward him for that, are you?) gives me hope that he is still alive and just holed up in one of Chattanooga's many fine drinking establishments licking his wounds received in the Owl's Nest when the supporters of whoever he was filming this time-----for personal use only-----came and got some (of BCB). So, lets hold off on the bloodhounds or cadaver dogs until we have had a chance to check the following Nooga area watering holes that BCB is known to frequent----come armed: Willow Street Inn J & J Lounge T & B Lounge Coffee Sports Bar & Grill Marco's Lounge Lois's Lounge & Restaurant Lawrence's Lounge Cabaret Royale Supper Club Diamonds & Lace Showbar Paddy's Bar & Grill Hot Spot Lounge Alan Gold's Nightclub Andrea's Bar and Grill and, just on a hunch, the sidewalk outside the now-closed Leonard's on Brainerd Road just through the tunnels. It is no longer open, but BCB might be sitting on the sidewalk sipping some hooch and remembering his golden days at EFT, when he used to slip up to Leonard's after class for a cold one and a hard boiled egg before heading back to wrestling practice. After all, he is a sentimental fool.
  23. Bayou Bear: I'm getting worried about BCB. There have been no posts by him since last Thursday, on the Baylor v. McCallie match topic, when he signed off with the following words: "Off to my 2nd favorite House, wrestling house that is, The Owls nest to film all the 119 and 125 lbers. Security I'll be wearing a whole wheat colored shirt tan pants and no visor, come get some." Nothing since. Unusual that he would not have commented on the Baylor-McCallie match, given his prior employment at TBSFBAG. I am concerned that he may have had another "taping incident" at the Owl's Nest like he did several years back at Cleveland? This time, instead of just confiscating the tape, maybe someone took him up on his offer to "come get some". I am concerned that he may have been escorted from the gym and then not set free to rage about the injustice of it all on this board but instead taken off and disposed of somewhere in Sequatchie Valley. If he doesn't appear soon, we made to send out a search party. Of course, he could just still be locked up in the tank at the Hamilton County jail trying to sober up after meeting up with TBSFBAG gang after Monday's match.
  24. BB----I agree with with your explanation and everything you said makes sense. I fully expected you to be pulling for McCallie. A mutual friend of ours ( the bald-headed one who traded green for purple and then red ) and I laughed about it before the match----that you broadcasting a McCallie match for McCallie on the McCallie website might make John Ward look neutral by comparison. I just wondered who/what caused your comments -----wasn't surprised by the comments so much as I was that someone would open that door in the first place. When I read this morning that you were sitting next to Ward, I thought maybe he had gigged you with something like "you can't say that, you 're a reporter". Don't let BCB cohort Raider76 bait you------you didn't sound rattled to me------quite the contrary, you seemed pretty adamant in the in the righteousness of your position. He just wants to add to the pound of flesh TBSFBAG got on Monday. Baylor is not wireless? They built that multi-million dollar combination wrestling and swimming facility just a few years ago and did not make it wireless? How did that happen? How do they expect those student athletes to study on their computers in there while they are waiting for practice and matches to start up? There is a reason why when we were growing up McCallie was thought of as the more academic of the two schools while Baylor was the jock factory.
  25. BB----did Ward gig you about that last night, because you made that same comment on the air? Was he trying to put a little TPF muscle on The Chattanoogan.com? In the middle of all the give and take about the referee's caution calls/no-calls, you said to someone words to the same effect: that you were not covering the match as a reporter, that if you were you would have to be neutral, but that you were doing the broadcast for McCallie on the McCallie website as a fan of McCallie, so you did not have to remain neutral and "can say that if I want to". I spewed my drink all over my computer keyboard when I heard you. Since I know your blood runs blue, it was one of those moments where I wanted to look at whoever caused you to make that comment with a " duh......and you were really thinking he might be neutral at this match?" Good job last night. Enjoyed your insights into the matches as they were unfolding and, despite your blue heritage, you were complimentary of the boys in red tights-----must be all those formative years under Shaack's tutelage before you got sucked in by the Blue Tornado.
