  1. I agree about the strength of Region 1/2 5A, especially Region 1 with teams like Karns, Campbell Co. I would rather play a good team and lose than play a weak team and win by a considerable margin. I think the lack of quality opponents especially hurt us in the late 80's. We are improving next year's schedule by adding Oak Ridge. [Edited by rolltriberoll on 11-27-02 10:14A]
  2. DB wins 89 - 52. DB forced 27 turnovers. Read about it at... http://www.timesnews.net/article.dna?_StoryID=3143717 The Falcons may be looking forward to that Bahama weather! -Maroon and Grey
  3. Hey folks, Honkylips is correct. Lets get ready for the trip to Riverdale. BTW, #19 played quite a bit last evening. Heard his name called several times. [Edited by maroonandgrey on 11-23-02 4:17P]
  4. I saw this team play earlier this year against South. DB was in desperate need of a running game at that time. I was also worried about the defense. Needless to say, I am thrilled to see how this team has progressed. I never dreamed that this team would be where it is. Getting healthy and getting better have been the answer. I am impressed with the three playoff victories. We have beaten three quality teams. I can still remember when we got the 500th victory. I believe we beat Oak Ridge to get that one. Lets get it done in Murphreesboro. Roll Tribe. -Maroon and Grey
  5. Hey Sandman, DB is still playing. SH is still watching DB play. The more things change, the more they stay the same. -Maroon and Grey
  6. How big/tall is Minor? He is a football magnet! -MaroonandGrey
  7. Mears is certainly more important to his team that Hamiliton, and DB is still playing. I would also take Williams over any Science Hill WR. Williams is a big play threat anytime the ball is in the air. Science Hill is still sitting at home. Wonder why with all those all-conference players? Maroon and Grey
  8. Again, Doug Adkins! He is considered to be one of the all time great defensive DL guys in the NFL. I am glad to see that Bobby Cifers was mentioned. Maroonandgrey [Edited by maroonandgrey on 11-14-02 7:30A]
  9. The best wide out in the state is Antonio Minor of Fulton. He led class 3a in east tn in recieving yards this season. and he has also been called the next Randy Moss. Look out for this kid.He has a great future in football. I have seen the Minor kid play, and he is impressive. But, the next Randy Moss? Get real. Whoever said that has been spending some quality time with Randy off the field. -Maroon and Grey [Edited by maroonandgrey on 11-13-02 8:16P]
  10. Yes, this is a great rivaly: The Model City vs. the Atomic City! Anyone familiar with the story where Oak Ridge was stealing DB's plays in the 2000 playoff game? I heard the story just this year from the brother of one of DB's former coaches. If anyone knows if the story is true, I will share it with the rest of the board. Otherwise, I will file it away as rumor! -Maroon and Grey
  11. I am shocked that the Tribe beat WB 48-0. This certainly sets up a great showdown between the Indians and 'The Mighty Oak' next Friday. I'll be there. -Maroon and Grey
  12. As previously stated... Loved or hated, but never ignored! -Maroon and Grey
  13. Topper Fans, I read your posts, and I really can't make sense of what you guys are thinking. You call DB unimpressive, and we held you to 3 points at home in a game that was CRITICAL for you and meaningless for us. In other words, an umimpressive team dominated you at your place? We have beaten you guys how many times in a row? An unimpressive team won the region for the 8th time in 10 years. Next, you guys say that you have a good team, yet you did not make the playoffs. You let Bearden beat you at home in a homecoming game no less. You prove that you are good team by beating a below average Bearden team - not by beating Karns. Even lowly Bearden made the playoffs. If I were you guys, I would not worry about how well we play in the playoff until you guys get in the playoffs. - Maroon and Grey
  14. I think that Daryl Watson at Dobyns-Bennett is one of the best defensive coordinators out there. His defenses always play an aggressive, attacking sytle of defense. Of course it helps to have the team speed that he has had in the last few years. -Maroon and Grey
  15. Dude, Everyone is reporting that Science Hill lost tonight to Jeff Co. What game were you watching? Regardless of the score, if you lose to Bearden at homecoming, it's a blowout. MaroonandGrey

    Webb/Bearden

This one is hard to call. I saw Bearden play earlier this year, and their best player is their punter - and I think he is overrated. Remember, Bearden struggled to beat a hapless Karns team last week. Although I will be pulling for Bearden, I see Webb winning this one. -Maroon and Grey
  17. Lamon Williams is very impressive for Dobyns Bennett. All you have to do it throw it in his general direction - he'll go get it! Certainly has impressive stats for a Soph. The Merrit (spelling?) kid at Maryville must be pretty good. He is all over the high school highlight reels on Knoxville TV. Maroon and Grey

    DB v. jeff co

Hello folks, This is my first post. I am sure you meant to say DB play WELL. As you know GOOD can not be used as an adverb. The spell check won't point that out for you. I hope this pointer will help you do GOODER with your future posts. Please don't throw stones in connection with spelling errors and such if you live in a poorly built glass house. Let's let this be last post related to grammer and spelling errors. At any rate, I have been following the debate here concerning DB's QB Mears. Based on what I have seen, I think he is OK. I saw him against South and Bearden this year. I do agree that he is better than Butler, and I think Mears has a lot of touch on the long ball. Seems to me that he does not throw the intermediate pass very well, though. IMO, the problem that DB has had this year is a lack of production in the running game. If we can get this solved, we will be fine. It seems that we had some success running against Jeff Co. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Once again the title will go through the Model City, and an average DB team drills Jeff Co., again. -Maroon and Grey
