  1. I'll take a different approach to it. It'll be lucky if you have 2 make it and that's going to stretch it. My oldest son was recruited by Vandy for 4 years, courted by some SEC and OVC schools and was fortunate enough to be a walk on at Vandy for a 1 1/2 years. (he left the team because he would have to give up his merit scholarship to keep the team under their allotted 85 and pay out of pocket to stay with the team. Right, we're going to give up a $50,000 a year scholarship to play football) He could have walked on at UT but why get lost in the numbers. You really don't have a true grasp of the level of athlete that the D1 programs are looking for. At least at the higher levels. They only have a limited number of scholarships to give out and they're trying to get the 4 and 5 star rated players. It's just not as easy as what most think. Size will get it at the lower levels, speed will get it at the lower levels, but you've got to have the complete package to go any higher.
  2. Has there been any college recruiters visiting the White House guys? Most places are trying to pin down their offers about now. I know Zeigler from Greenbrier has offers from Martin, TN Tech, and possibly Western KY.
  3. Normally the voters for Mr. Football don't see much of the guys unless they put up some big numbers and gt some pub. He must of had some kind of press.
  4. I guess if it's posted on the TSSAA site any local coach can apply.
  5. Not making All Region and being nominated for Mr. Football is just a plain joke. Has there been any college recruiters visiting the White House guys? Most places are trying to pin down their offers about now. I know Zeigler from Greenbrier has offers from Martin, TN Tech, and possibly Western KY.
  6. My son played in the Tennessee vs Kentucky All Star game a few years back. It was fun. The players spent a week in Knoxville practicing and doing events and then went to Louisville to play KY.
  7. It would be great to see Jo Byrns schedule a strong non-region game. It would help develop the team and get them some good pub.
  8. Congrats Jo Byrns on an outstanding year.
  9. Good to see Jo Byrns get some good pub in the Tennessean this morning. Good luck in the Boro!
  10. Good point. Conditioning is a huge indicator of what a team is going to be able to do and what the team attitude is. I noticed this a few years ago when the county lift-a-thon would take place. Greenbrier was fortunate enough at the time to be in their strong years and would win the lift-a-thon with a strong showing. The surprising thing was that Springfield would finish toward the bottom. There's no way that a school the size of Springfield should have finished below A and AA schools. If you're not going to pay your dues in the weight room you're not going to have a successful team. That's where it all begins. The parents need to encourage it and the players need to dedicate themselves to it.
  11. Basically the same as Pope John Paul here in middle Tennessee.
  12. I think we see it more the same than you realize. I probably didn't explain enough. I think you're exactly right. UT's program is just flat. Whether it be players attitudes, dedication, or whatever, they just don't have it. Fulmer still wants to win and probably feels that he's doing the same things that he did in the successful years but it's not working. Like in Springfield, it's time to try something different.
  13. Kind of like in Knoxville. While a change may be necessary, Fulmer didn't suddenly get stupid over night. I'd guess it's probably a combination of players and coaches. Sometimes you have these down years.
  14. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> That's kind of how I've always seen him. He "coaches" and the players just do their thing and "out athlete" the opponent.
  15. Take Portland for example. The train track sits right behind (maybe 20 yards) from the visitors bleachers. Plus, Portland has their own train horn that they blow on occasion. They usually only do it after big plays so it's not too bad.
  16. Their season may have been ruined but what a message. You've got to admire a coach that's willing to put character ahead of winning.
  17. Those were the two most exciting football games that I've ever watched. Of course with 2 sons playing, it probably made it even worse.
  18. Be more careful when you're running a shoplifting ring?... /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Seriously, I guess you have to stick to the innocent until proven guilty (odds are they'll drop them to misdemeanors anyway) but you'd love to see a coach step up and do the right thing.
  19. I think this is the problem that a lot of schools are running up against. There just doesn't seem to be as many guys that are willing to do what it takes to be a good football player anymore.
  20. I honestly can't remember if he was there the year you speak of or not but they did play Greenbrier two games that went down to the last play that year (2004). Greenbrier hammered then pretty good the next year. Tharpe was a very good coach but I never heard of anything going on. There could have been but I just remember him leaving.
  21. I would just figure it's another job opening that a good coach may want to pursue instead of coming to Springfield.
  22. I like Johnny and even went to school with him but it seems that he probably needs to give it up. Johnny is probably a great assistant coach. Kind of like in Knoxville... sometimes it's time for a change. The board says Portland is looking for a coach. That might make this situation a little more difficult.
