  1. Briarcrest players presently in college football: John Henderson '00 - Tennessee Josh Schmidt '01 - Notre Dame Robert Towns '03 - Harding Justin Currie '03 - Harding Melvin Cole '03 - Bowling Green
  2. ELA, who's we? What team? And usually I think the offense uses a trick play to catch the defense totally off-guard and for a big gainer or even a TD. Offenses do try to either out-maneuver or out-execute the defense, but sometimes a team just lines up with the defense knowing what's coming and they run their play. A defense might be looking for something or have seen an earlier play in a game and expect the offense to run the same play. That's usually when a trick play comes in "real handy." In last year's DII-AA state championship game, Briarcrest scored their first touchdown on a double-reverse pass. It was much needed since the score at the end of regulation was 7-7.
  3. I am curious to hear of some interesting plays you've seen in years past. You always know of the Flea-flicker or a double-reverse. But what are some we may not see everyday?
  4. That was crazy because it was no fluke. Carver has tremendous team speed on both sides of the ball. Mitchell, honestly, is not as good as they were last year, but Carver is good enough that I think they would have beaten Mitchell's team from last year. Carver dominated the game this year with 350+ yards from their tailback, while their defense plays like mad hornets. They are the top team to give Milan trouble in the quarterfinals. Should be a great game and watch out for the super-quick nosequard.
  5. I know McCallie always gives the Brothers a tough game, especially b/c of their option package and Ryan Moore runs it better than most. Brothers went for 4th and 2 late in the 4th qtr, didn't get it and McCallie had one more shot with about a minute left and deep in CBHS territory. McCallie tried a option halfback pass, but the CBHS defender stayed on his man and intercepted the ball. Long run at end put ball at about 8 where Brothers kneeled and took a close 21-20 victory. This was a tough one for the Wave and they knew it would be. Last year, the lost pretty good in the playoffs to McCallie.
  6. Just knew that would happen. Too great a game to finish in 1 OT.
  7. Christian Brothers 14-7 at halftime over McCallie.
  8. That's the game I would LOVE to see - MBA vs. South Panola. Now that would show the best two teams in TN and MS, respectively. Panola has dominated all competition and their lowest point total of the year is 38. I think their athleticism would give MBA a tough test.
  9. The whole thing about Southaven is that they are big and strong, but one-dimensional as they only can run the ball. When a team stops this, they have stopped them. Now they have lost to some good teams in MS, but they are still 5-3 now. However, when this game was played, both teams were undefeated and out to prove something, so the mind-set of Southaven made them stronger then than they are now with 3 losses. Just like Trinity of Louisville, they were looked at as a powerhouse and played differently than they did as they lost the next three games after MBA. MBA actually showed other teams what weaknesses Trinity and Southaven both had. Now I believe that Div II-AAA is down to BA, MBA, and CBHS. Should be some good postseason games and, of course, the last regular season game between BA and MBA.
  10. Actually saw your email address and see where you alliance falls. Thanks.
  11. vballdad, you're not a Harding dad are you? Nice website.
  12. I also believe it depends on the team you have and whether they respond better to a physical practice or not. Some teams do practice better or worse depending on what is expected. If not full contact, some think they can take off. And as others have said, a team might not want key players to get hurt if some are already down. You can be too carefull, though, and tried to go half-speed and cause more injuries than you would normally. It's just about reading your team.
  13. Would be a great one. I would like to have seen MBA take on South Panola, #1 in Mississippi, instead of Southaven. That would pit tops from Tennessee and MS. Lincoln Co. seems to be rolling this year. MBA vs. Brentwood Academy this year should be a great one with BA looking to prove that's their in the mix with MBA and CBHS. However, I hate that this game is not a region game. That is strange to play someone in your region, but it doesn't count in the standings.
  14. I agree. All three are D-I with Heff, I believe looking at Maryland, Kizer at Miami, and Doss undecided. East's Cassie Vaughn is a speedy, sophomore RB with over 1,000 yds.
  15. It seems that Knoxville Catholic has only gotten better since last year. Battle Ground is as tough as always with many different rushing threats now that Karl is at fullback. Both team's QBs are more experienced now and seniors at that. The running attack for both will be tough to stop, but both defenses are definitely capable. I believe it will come down to who can come up with the timely completions to keep the opponent's defense off-balance. This should be a great, smash-mouth football game and I wish both good luck. My pick: BGA 24, Knox. Catholic 14
  16. I agree 705--, a very bad pick. While it might be an exciting event for FR, CBHS is just too tough. The MBA game last night was very close and as long as they can both hold off a tough Brentwood Academy, last night should be a preview of the state championship game. McCallie will present CBHS with their toughest test for the rest of the season, even though cross-town rival MUS always plays them tough.
  17. The Briarcrest Christian High School website for Saints football has been improved. Briarcrest
  18. If we're into correcting predictions, I might as well throw my two cents in and take a stab at the Division II-AA (Not Small since there is a smaller II-A). No way Catholic beats BGA and I don't see the Wildcats losing another game. BGA 8-2 Catholic 9-1 Webb 5-5 PJP II 3-7
  19. Sometimes you like to look at a high school's website and see what they do for their football team. If you have one or know of one, please post it. Thanks.
  20. Hey, Maryville fans, I was just wondering so when I go to Gatlinburg later this year, I can take a look - how long is it from Knoxville to Maryville? Thanks.
  21. jmatt, it's actually Quistors, short for Conquistadors, and no, they're not. They've lost to MS state #1 South Panola, #12 Southaven 21-20, and #15 Grenada 6-3. But thanks for asking Ro-dog!
