I think this is my first footbal post. I don't really follow high school football. I do watch alot of basketball and volleyball games all across the state, and have been to Kingston on several occassions the last few years, especially when they had such a good basketball team. I know nothing about the wiffle bat incident, but I do know that the basketball games I attended were the worst supervised games I've seen in 10 years. The student section was abusive and violent. They were there just to cause trouble. In one game last year a mob of Kingston students attacked a small group of visiting fans in the parking lot. I say this because of the pattern of conduct that this school allows. Do you expect anything else. Also, is Vic King the same coach that had problems in Campbell County.
  2. Does the Roane County Board of Education simply not care about what is happening at Kingson? The problems don't just exist at basketball games, this is going on at every sport.
  3. Losing to Carter is like losing to Farragut or Bearden, shouldn't have happened. What happened the last time AC lost one they shouldn't have (i.e. Scott) they blew away one of the top AA teams in East Tenn (Kingston) and beat an extremely talented Clinton team at Clinton. Wow, great coaches recover from losses. Eldridge and Wallace have things under control.
  4. Four in four! Who is coaching these teams? Well done Coach E, DW and the team.
  5. After the behavior of Kingston's "fans" last night I think orcat was all over this post. In 30 years of going to high school basketball games I have never heard so much profanity at a game. The Kingston students used every word, and made every filthy gesture possible. They did all of this with small children looking on. It was worse than what I could describe. Where was the administration? Do these students act this way every game? Not good for high school sports, or for Roane County. I feel stupid for defending these losers. Kingston has a good ball club, they deserve better fans. The Kingston Krazys are NOT the best thing to ever happen to Kingston basketball. May be the worst.
  6. I was at this game. Anderson County had MAYBE eight students (boys and girls). Kingston had 50-60 guys who began chanting "parking lot" before the game was over. When I left these same 50-60 guys were standing on a hill between the gym and the parking lot yelling at ANY AC fans that left, including the old women. This was an ambush. Kingston had no police or faculty presence outside. I used to think the Kingston students were funny, but this was nothing but "gang" type behavior. These students should be suspended from ALL athletic events, and Kingston should forfeit the hosting of the district tourney. It was not a good night for high school sports.
  7. Oddly enough, after I left my earlier post, I saw that on AOL sports they addressed this exact issue in colege basketball. Maryland's student section is trying to make a free speech argument that it is okay to yell profanities, and even wear them on their shirt, all during the games. All the players do is curse, and yell at theother players. Is this okay? I can't turn on the TV or read a magazine without the Janet Jackson superbowl issue being in my face. We worry about an aging rock start trying to get back in the spotllight because "our children were watching?" These people complaining should go to a high school basketball game and see what their children are saying, and doing. If we don't take steps to curb the profanity, and abuse it will just get worse. Students like Jacketman and the clown are just imitating what they see on TV. I may tease them a little, but hey, if you interject yourself into the game that's what you really want isn't it? Recognition? Your own 15 minutes? Jacketman and the others I've seen this year haven't gone too far, yet. Its not them we need to worry about. It is the elementary student that is at the game watching them, waiting for the chance to do one better when they get to high school. Yes, we all have a problem, but how do we address it? That is for a better, and younger person than me to fix. Read the AOL artice, it make you think.
  8. In a momemnt of seriousness, I have been to 3 or 4 Kingston games this year and have NEVER thought anyone was drunk. Also, I have never seen any profanity or obscene gestures directed toward a small child, but in truth I am usually watching the game. The only time I have noticed the Kingston student section was at AC when the guys were getting blown out, there were a couple of younger students who went too far given the situation. The stuff being complained of is no different than what happens at too many games which is a few students, and adults, try to take the attention off of the players and the game by becoming the worlds biggest jerk. We don't notice it at football too often because of the crowd size; distance from the field; and being out doors. Baseball doesn't draw the crowds, and the pace of the game doesn't mlend itself to the type of crude behavior that is now a part of high school basketball. Every school will go through a rogue class which causes a problem. Some schools are worse than others. I used to hate watching a game at OS, but it has gotten much better. So has Clinton; Bearden and Halls. I like the Kingston fans, I think they bring a lot of energy to the game. It is the behavior of a few that push it a little too far, that gets our attention. I wouldn't worry too much about this post. ORCAT, I have been to many wild cat games where 2 or 3 of your students should have been muzzled. Unfortunately, it is part of sports today.
  9. Mav, I think "Dink" may be the name of the clown that sits with the little boy that wears the camoflauge hat! Do you think Jacketman is called that because he holds the jackets for the ball players? Game will be much closer than when AC was at home. Kingston's size can be a problem. Still would go with AC by 7. Jacketman, how many of the guys coats can you carry? If it is a big game does Dink the clown help?
  10. I had a child in ICU for 3 1/2 months several years ago. It changed my entire like. My prayers are with Coach, and his child. Get well!
  11. Good post on the 2-3. I agree with Mcneely, gotta have the athletes.
  12. Mav, Are Rusty Yaden and the Keaton boys playing in an alumni game for Scott tomorrow? If not Scott County is going to get dusted. If AC keeps up the defensive intensity, protects the ball and goes hard to the glass then this one could be ugly. Scott Co. is playing well, and their coach seems to have them going in the right direction. I compare them to OS, would be a tough draw in the tourney. Everyone talks about AC's shooting, this team is not one dimensional. Solid all over. Unless AC misses the exit and goes to Jellico by mistake I think 18 may be low. Hey, are you and the all-american going to dress up in camoflauge and wear clown wigs? (Sorry, I forgot. That was the two little guys from Kingston!)
  13. A tight 2-3? I am seeing the 2-3 everywhere this year, do these new coaches not know another defense? The 3 point line should have been the death blow to this defense. You have to play the perimeter. Is the Mav going around with his defensive play book to these summer coaching clinics?
  14. Will the little guy in the camoflauge hat and the clown be there for Kingston, if so OS has a chance! Seriously, if OS gets hot they could give Kingston a problem. They are big enough to give Kingston a problem inside, better coaches and go to the glass hard. It will come down to who shoots the ball better. Kingston by 6 unless the clown and his little buddy come then OS by 2!
  15. coachchannell, I wouldn't get my no chance hotel card to quickly, I saw a lot that I liked Friday. Your guys dominated the glass in the first half, and moved the ball well. Give it another year, but I think you are getting a lot out of your guys. I know that your "hair" mentor Coach E would like to be opposite you in the district. You keep playing that hard somebody is going home early. Since the Bobcat faithful have been ALL OVER me since my last game plan (which was not followed by the way) I need to mend some fences. Kingston has NO CHANCE in this game. Kingston is weaker than Anderson County. The score of the AC Kingston game does not reflect the respective teams. AC only scored 2 points the final 12 minutes. They were down 1 half way through the third, and has a stronger ball club. Kingston does not have the guard play to stay with OS. The big girl is strong, with great hands and runs the floor, but doesn't get the ball enough. She should touch it every time down. I still think an effort needs to be made to keep the ball out of Hall's hands and make the other players beat you but what do I know. Wouldn't matter in this game anyway. OS will win by as much as they want. Can I get some pizza?
  16. Chill, I agree with the whole Farragut idea. I said it in December and I'll say it now, Farragut does NOT go to the State tourney. Well done on your post, I think Mott is a great shooter. I also like Channiot (sp?) and think that if he shot more he would be up there. Powell's Ogen and Hall from Oliver Springs are two girls that shoot better than 99% of the guys I've seen this year. Pure shooting is becoming a lost art, following rebounding and passing.
  17. After 20 plus years of doing it all (head coach;asst; Volunteer etc..) I think that no one gives coaches enough credit. Part of the problem is we are our own worst enemy. Think about it, how many coaches seek the glory for self, not team? I enjoy being around the young people, and the teaching, and being part of a team. I have quit expecting, and prefer not having, a lot of recognition. When a player comes in from college and drops by to say hello, that is their thank you! If you are in it for any other reason I'm afraid you'll be disappointed. My good frien Coach Neely at East Ridge has been doing this for over 40 years, and the young coaches give her little if any respect. Too many of us quit because of the parents. We need to remember why we coach, not to win, but to teach.
  18. I have re-read my initial post, and am saving it as the most misunderstood post in coacht history. I never even predicted an AC win, just thoughts as to what to try. None of my ideas were implemented, and I doubt they would have made a difference anyway. I just wish teams would TRY things to beat the better teams. I stand by my idea that OS is beatable, but Laura Hall impreseed me Friday night. She stole an in bounds, then made a body fake to her left while moving the ball right. When the AC defender bought the fake she spun and hit an 8 footer, that may have been the best shot I've seen this year. OS fans were nice. I chose this game over Powell OR just to see Hall, and saw several local people their just to do the same. Some friends that I never see at games were there who go to church with Laura, and although their son went to AC they said they were there to see Laura because she was such a nice young lady. I wish them all the luck, but I would still play ball denial and not a soft zone.
  19. Threeball, Your going to get Chill in trouble!
  20. Salty, Ouch! Maybe I should become a sports reporter? I heard the pay is great, and I don't have to work much! What do you think?
  21. I have a question. Have the rules changes as to whether the high school coach can work directly with the middle school programs in the off season? From what I remember they couldn't work with 8th graders, but can they work with 7th graders?
  22. Salty, At my age I am more of a lover than a fighter! Especially since my wife's family go to both Heritage and Sevier County! Watch out for Seymour they appear to be strong. Also, Powell may have lost one of their best players to injury so keep an eye on the Oak Ridge game. Have fun my friend.
  23. T-Bird, I am a parent but not of any AC students or players. Just an old coach who likes high school ball. I go to alot of games with friends, and AC is close to home. I've seen a couple of OS games, love Hall; and as many Powell games as I can get to. I also like Webb. I meant nothing deragatory against the bobcats, just speculating with my friends who visit this site. PS If you and Seymour square off, and given your talent you should, I will be pulling for OS!
  24. Easy guys, I like Hall, and think OS has a great ball club. My point is that they are beatable. Easy, one of my best friends in coaching (Ron Hackworth) took OS to the state finals a few years back and I sat with the bobcat faithful all through the tourney. I also am friends with your old boys coach Stan Ballard, and had many good games against him. My point of the post was NOT to predict an upset, but to talk about what I'd do to stop OS. Will it work, OS SHOULD win big, but lets play the game. Miss Hall, as I said before, you are a class individual, I will miss watching you play. Good luck in college!
