  1. Mav, I think jacketboy was wearing the make-up, and maybe a little eye-liner. After 4 years of high school and a successful college career I have no more eligibilty. Come on, you guys play football and baseball? I didn't think you were tall enough to swing at the tee, and since when does Kingston have a pee-wee football program. Do you and the Clown hold hands when the game gets close. Guys, get off the internet and try talking to the girls.
  2. schsbears Yeah, that's rightt, and their coach is dating Morgan Fairchild! Please, have some cheese with the whine!
  3. Girls AA ball is WAY DOWN in East Tennessee this year. In the greater Knoxville area Seymour seems to be the class, but do any of the other teams have a REALISTIC chance to make it to the sub-state? I think so. Take away Seymour and parity exists. The difference between top to bottom is so small that the other spot is WIDE OPEN. With that being said OSprings seems to be the concensus #2 team. Can they be beaten? I think so. OS plays Anderson County on Friday which is loaded with young talent. Although AC's record is below .500 they can beat OS. The question is what would it take? 1. Keep the ball out of Hall's hands. The OS guard is one of East Tennessee's most talented players (and an extremely pleasant young lady) and 100% of the lady bobcat's offense runs through her. Good shooter, great ball handler, and she sets up the other players as good as anyone I've seen this year. Although I am not a fan of "gimmick" defenses, this might be time for a box-and-1 playing ball denial on Hall. AC has an excellent defensive player in Bryant, let her crawl in Hall's jersey full court trying to keep the ball out of her hands. Make someone else bring the ball up the floor and startthe offense. Once she gets the ball you can drop into a 1-2-2 if you want because Hall likes to stay up top. Stay away from the soft 2-3, it gives her two much freedom, and man-to-man gives her too many passing options if their is a break down. The 1-2-2, with Bryant at the top, lets you go back into the box denying Hall the ball as soon as she passes off. It also lets you trap to the side if she she rotates right or left. 2. Protect the ball. AC has multiple guard combinations, use 3 people to bring the ball up the court. Worthington sees the floor well, maybe put her in the middle. Don't try and break anybody down with the dribble, and stay away from the trap. 3. Move the ball from side to side quickly, and go inside when you get 1-1 match ups. Pick up high and let the guards penetrate. 4. Control the tempo of the game, and don't be afraid to take 3's or penetrate. Too much respect is given to the defense, attack the hoop, looking for the switch then pass. 5. Don't get beat at the line, by too many fouls. Make someone other than Hall beat you. Keep her under 10 and you've got a chance.
  4. I agree snake! Who are the "good" coaches and who are the ones "that just don't know?"
  5. What about these coaches that count their AAU vicories in their win loss record?
  6. DJGILES There wasn't much of a game after halftime. Anderson County blew Kingston away. The little boy in the camaflauge hat screaming at his buddy wearing the clown wig was far more interesting than watching Kingston get dusted. Whats worse, is I think these kids began to irritate the Kingston players and coaches (they stood right behind the Kingston bench) and became a distraction during the second half. Kingston has a good ball club, with a tough inside game. If I were the Kingston bench I would have told these guys to ease up. They hurt their team, but I don't think they cared.
  7. The problem that some small schools have is that the coaches don't have regular contact with the colleges. They might want to enlist the help of some older coaches. I have always tried to help students from other schools.
  8. Southpaw, Back to our original thesis, how important is a coach, I say extremely important. Players have to execute, but it is the coach's job to put them in a position to succeed. Great players will not make a great coach, but a great coach can make a good team great.
  9. I am close to Mav on this one. I think it is wrong to celebrate on the losers State Banner, but what do you expect? These kids imitate what they see on TV. Warren Sapp does it every game. What Sevier Co did is TAUNTING not celebrating, but don't be hard on 16 year olds when adults (parents) are just as bad, if not worse! I am probably more bothered by going into the other teams locker room. Wait until they come out, but DON'T interrupt another teams break down. This post says a lot about how WE (coaches, fans, parents, players) view the "S" word, sportsmanship. My thought is "act like you've been there before.'' Heritage has a BIG enemy in Sevier County and they will meet again. Don't point fingers at these kids until your own house is in order.
  10. Mav Do you think Jacketman was the little guy who wore the camoflauge ball cap at Friday's game. If it is, he sure is awfully small to talk so big. As I get older it amazes me at how these guys that have never picked up a ball in their life act so stupid. I saw this guy yelling at officials, players, etc.. while his team is getting whipped. This game could have been worse, if AC wasn't so classy. To make it worse, he is so little. Do you think he has ever had a girlfriend, or does he spend every Friday Night with his buddy wearing the clown's wig? I saw where he self promoted the Kingston student section as being the "best." What I saw were 20 short, out of shape little boys, who had probably never played a sport in their life (not counting video games). I noticed there were no female students in the "student" section. Is that by design, or is there another reason? Mav, do you think camoflauge hat boy is in the 9th grade, or still in middle school.
  11. The concept of the post is getting out coached. I strongly disagree that UT should not have been in that game, I think that with some decent coaching they should have won the game. The CONCEPT of the post concerned what a difference a "coach" can make. Buzz let his team down by not having them better prepared to start the game, and totally mismanaging the end of the game. That game was lost by the coach, not won by superior talent.
  12. I disagree Southpaw, at that level the disparity of talent is not as great as ESPN wants us to believe. When a top 25 team gets beat by a top 50 team it happens. UT has talent, and a school its size, with its financial resources, has to be a top tier program recognized on a national level. Tubby has won everywhere he has been, Buzz has never even been to the NCAA tourney. Just look at what they both did at Tulsa, Tubby took them to the sweet sixteen, Buzz only had 1 NIT appearance. Buzz seems to be a good guy, but not the coach Tubby is. My father hates Kentucky, just hates them, and lives for UT. Even he was disappointed in this game.
  13. I like Wright and Elldrige. I predicted Farraguts slide a couple of weeks ago, not going anywhere.
  14. This is my 5 star lock, money pick of the year. Anderson County by 7-11, only because of the style of play. AC had Clinton and Alcoa beat if not for missed free throws. AC is a better coached team, and well disciplined. My only gripe is I wish they were a little meaner.
  15. Pageman my friend, I think we never quit coaching! At least that is what my friends who sit with me at the games say! Tell your friends in middle tenn to watch out for Powell in AAA and I'm becoming a fan of Seymour in AA. Hope all is well.
  16. Lollipop Kid You are all over the idea about new coaches needing to listen more in that most of the questions have been answred before, and I agree 100% with your point about having to correct mistakes taught by people who don't really have the instructional ability to do the job. About 13 years ago I was trying to "mentor" a 1st year coach who had no previous experience. He politely told me that he had played at a successful colege program, and didn't need any advice. His first home game no officials showed up because he didn't know to turn his schedule in. His first away game he forgot to make travel plans and had no bus. From that point on he and I have been close friends, and he has turned into a great coach, and has even won a state championship. It took him a few years to get to that point. Earlier this year I watched a young coach open up in an aggressive full-court man-to-man against a superior opponent that had not been scouted. It took 20 points for him to make a change. I encourage coaches to take the job seriously, and LEARN before you do. Would you want to be operated on by a doctor that had never performed surgery? Coaching is hard, but the rewards last a lifetime.
  17. I watched UT and Kentucky last night, and I am a UT alum, and fan, but can anyone say Buzz is better than Tubby? UT started poorly (coaching); And with 16 seconds, up 3 and a foul to give (and coming out of a time out) you Don't foul? Buzz lost that game not the players, and it was not because a kid hitting a tough three. He should never have got to take the shot. What was talked about in the T.O.? Coaching makes a differnce.
  18. As a former English teacher, and long time coach, it should be "are" there any ... You're not one of PAGEMAN's students, is you?
  19. I like OS, but if Hall has a bad night they are beatable, especially if they get the "looking to the next game ie Seymour" attitude. I think Anderson County can finish second in the district, and could (COULD) pull an upset against OS. The Kingston game is important. AC is a young team loaded with talent. Beat Kingston and the confidence meter goes way up. AC is deep, and DuPree is becoming a monster at post. I think Kingston is ripe to be picked, and if AC gets on a roll, I would play ball denial with a box against Hall, waste my fouls, and give it a go. AC by 4-7!
  20. Powell is the best team I've seen. If I were going to play them I would get physical, trap half-court and control the tempo. Should make a run. Great group of athletes, well coached, disciplined. I'm a fan.
  21. Many people may not know that Michael is such a good shooter because his father was a great 3-point set up man! I played with Michaels dad for years, and I must have got him 2500 assits for all those great passes. I love watching his son excel!
  22. This is an important district game, and may determine who is opposite Oliver Springs in the district. Winner has a great chance to be 2nd, and could knock off OS in tourney play. What are your thoughts?
  23. Any luck on who the pro baseball player was?
  24. What a differnce a week makes! I agree with Mav, in that last years win over Clinton was under extraordinary circumstances, with the tagedy of the death of a Clinton student (relative of a player) it was a huge distraction. I love Rodd. She may be the most underated player in East Tenn, a definite D-1 prospect at the 3. I would have her touch the ball every offensive possession. I love this player.
  25. You know, the more I think about it I don't know what I was on with the Peck thing! I'm also glad about the Woosley pespective!
