  1. FCS, I'm just taking an educated guess, but I think what the Grace Christian Academy coaches wanted to see is if their subs had the endurance and were conditioned enough to stand on the sidleines for four quarters and clap and cheer on the starters when they scored 3 touchdowns in a game that was already decided. This is just purely speculation on my part.
  2. I really didn't have a problem with the onside kick. It happened midway through the second quarter with Grace up 29-14. That is football. I still haven't heard even an inkling of why the Grace Christian Academy coaches would purposely run up the score. The sad part is we won't hear, because the Grace folks believe this is the way to do things.
  3. Matter of fact, I remember a Grace parent coming after one of the Oakdale players after a basketball game at Grace 2-3 years ago. Does that embarrass you diddler being from Grace?
  4. You are right diddler. Fans get out of line from all schools and I'm sure that there was some upset fans from Oakdale and they may have been out of line (just taking your word for it). But that still doesn't excuse what the coaches, that represent that fine school you all brag on so much about called GRACE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY, did between the lines and on the scoreboard to high school kids.
  5. Grace has a good team. Not special, but good. They would probably compete for a playoff spot in Region 2-A. I would say they would finish anywhere from 3rd to 5th. They have some talented players, but talent only gets you so far. Now talent with good leadership and good class will go a lot farther than where I see them headed this season.
  6. And I'm not on here bashing the Grace Christian Academy kids. It wasn't their fault. Somebody should have had better control of the situation, whether that be the head coach, offensive coordinator or whoever. I do know one thing??”the area coaches that I have spoken to are pretty upset about what happened and that doesn't bode well for Grace in the future when it comes to seeking help from other local teams in helping with scouting reports or looking after them when they are down and need teams to not rub their noses in it when they have the chance. As far as the schedule, I'm sure that the current Grace coaching staff had nothing to do with who they played last sason and this season, but they have everything to do with how they handle playing this schedule and that should be with class, which was really lacking against Oakdale Friday night.
  7. I just put the facts out there and let everybody else form their opinion of what transpired. Kaz, I can vouch that the Grace JV was in for the final series of the game. The conditioning excuse doesn't cut it with me. That is what you do in the off-season and what you get accomplished in practice. Why would Hester and Amos need 3 more scores in the final 10 minutes? Surely their other runs before that proved they were both in very good shape. Maybe I'm looking at this from a slanted point of view, but I just don't see how they can justify those last 2 touchdowns. If they needed to prove they could go four quarters, why not have the star players (Amos, Hester, Williams and Taylor) all line up wide and run fly patterns the final 10 minutes and let a younger player carry the football. Just my thoughts.
  8. I stayed up pretty late and watched the tape. Whoever called the boxscore into the Knoxville News-Sentinel from Grace Christian Academy had the third and fourth quarter scores mixed up. I guess they didn't want it to look as bad as it actually was. Instead of scoring only 6 points in the fourth quarter, Grace tacked on 20 more against the Eagles. Oakdale led 14-7 in the first quarter and Grace pulled out a 35-20 lead at the half. In the third quarter, Grace scored one toucdown for a 41-20 lead heading into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, David Amos scored on a 20-yard run with about 10 minutes left to make it 48-20, then Phillip Hester scored on an 8-yard run for a 55-20 lead with 6:16 left in the game. Hester scored again with abot 4:30 left in the game on a 35-yard run for the 61-20 victory. So it wasn't as if they let up in the fourth quarter when the game had already been decided. Why would a christian school allow this to happen to high school age kids? Let me rephrase that, who would any school do that to high school age kids?

  10. I haven't had the opportunity to watch the film yet, but have talked to two different people that attended the game and said Grace was throwing the ball in the fourth quarter up big. I also know that Hester scored late in the game to make it 61-20. That is not the kids fault, but the coaches there ought to be held accountable for their actions. Anybody from Grace care to defend these actions against high school kids?
  11. Pujo I think he might have meant that you were downing them comparing them to the Patriots. He probably believes they are better than that (JK). I have been reading on here the past couple of months and they have bene getting all the hype. I'm sure they will be in the Region 2-A Championship race along with Hampton.
  12. Kaz, didnt meen to slight you. I appreciate your kind words too. By the way, Oneida looks like they are in for a special season and maybe I will get a chance to watch them live this season.
  13. Thanks for the kind words youdontknowme. I know we haven't seen eye to eye on things in the past, but I never hold grudges and everybody has an opinion on everything and I respect your opinions. Talking about Richard, that was one person that put his whole life into the newspaper business and I was fortunate enough to count him as one of my true friends in the business. He really spoiled Oneida and Scott County folks alike with his coverage of sports up there and I always valued his opinion. He is one of the guys in the paper business that I really respected and I knew how much he put into his job.
  14. I just want to say thanks for the comments. I take a lot of pride in doing my job and I really, really enjoy doing it. I have had some opportunities to go other place during the past, but I consider Morgan County my home. I have some very, very good friends that I would not have made if not for my job. Like I said in the paper, there are many folks that don't like me and that is just part of the job and I really could care less, but I just ask that I can have access to give every single team in Morgan County so I can give them the best coverage I can on a weekly basis. I let a lot of stuff just roll off my back with the calls and comments I get about their kid not getting the coverage they deserve or their kids stats were better than what I had in the paper. The one that tops them all is 2 or 3 years ago I was informed that a local politician was counting my camera flashes during a Coalfield at Wartburg basketball game. Said I had taken more pictures of Coalfield than Wartburg. My thing on that is, every picture that I shot during that game had to have Coalfield and Wartburg people in it. And I don't put every single picture in the paper any way. I still smile and scratch my head at the same time when I think back about that one. I'm fair game to take shots at (I have made some mistakes unintentionally over the years in the paper) and I kind of learned over the years that you can't make everybody happy, but if I do my job the best I can then I will at least make most of them satisfied with what I'm doing. These past few years, parents have become increasingly more concerned about whether little Johnny gets his name mentioned or gets all the glory than whether they win or lose. Wartburg and Oakdale have both recently snapped long suffering losing streaks and I was tickled to death for both teams and the kids for experiencing that winning feeling, but in both instances I had a disgruntled parent about their kid didn't get mentioned. Like I tell folks, I wish had the space, time, and resources to list every player's name each week, get a picture of them in the paper each week, but that just isn't possible. Just thought I would share some of the stuff I deal with from time to time. As far as Coach Harrison at Sunbright, he has a great bunch of kids up there playing football for him and I just believe that he is only hurting them by not working with me. I'm a pretty stubborn person too and I have taken him at his word that he has no comments for me this year and he will not provide film for me this year, so I guess I will do my job the best I can with what I have available. Thanks again for the comments SCW86. I'm guessing that you played for Bill Winstead at Wartburg.
  15. I could understand the guy not giving me film of the game if he actually thought that, but that has never even been mentioned to me asked of me or anything. I can tell you that nobody (coaches, playersm fans, etc) has ever even hinted or asked me for a film. The way things are set up now, every team trades film with each other and that is the way it should be. As or Harrison as coach of the year, if he does the best job in the county coaching this season then he will get my coach of the year honor, but right now I would have to go with either Dan Shoemaker or Randy Miller.
  16. Rufus thanks for the comments. I'm not going to air out his problems in a public forum. Let's just say that I have no comment about the situation lol. And for anybody wondering, I will continue cover the Sunbright fooball team the best I can with the limited resources I have. I do appreciate all the calls and support I have gotten from Sunbright people and other people from all around the county.
  17. The East Tennessee Area 2 District Tournament will begin today (Tuesday) at Sunbright for the girls. Games are as follows: 4:30??”Midway vs. Burchfield; 5:30??”PJ vs. Elk Valley; 6:30??”Winfield vs. Christian Academy of Campbell County; and 7:30??”Jellico vs. Robbins.
  18. Christopher and Laxton are/were both great, but imo I would take Boyatt. She is one player that came through the district that I really believe could have starred on a boys team.

  20. Coach of the Year Craig Moser and the boys South of the River took their share of the top honors inlcuding MVP Ray Robinson, Offensive player of the Year Eric Stansbury, Offensive Lineman of the Year Ashton Chinn, and Special Teams Offensive Player of the Year Will Poe. I will add more of the list later on when I get a chance.
  21. Hampton's season will end in the 3rd round when Midway beats them. Midway is too fast, too strong and too tough for the Bulldogs this year. Hampton hasn't seen this much speed since Alcoa whipped in the playoffs three or four years ago. Midway folks are calling this their best team ever and I have a hard time believing Hampton can slow them down.
  22. Midway will host the Roane County Jamboree with Midway, Oliver Springs, Rockwood, Harriman and Unaka playing Friday evening. Scott County will host a jamboree with Sunbright, York, McCreary County and Scott playing Friday evening. Hope this helps.
  23. I know Zach Hood and Adam Jackson are at Oliver Springs, where else have Clinton kids transferred to this year?
