  1. Glad to hear that Martez is healing up, he's a good kid. I am looking forward to the rematch just because of the improvement I have seen in Boyd over the last week. Don't know if it's enough for a "W", but it should be enough for a better game than last time. I don't think anyone in the state thought that Boyd would control the game at SC the way that they did and I'm hoping that the whole "underdog" thing works for them again this Friday. Are the fish sandwiches gonna be ready?
  2. Last I heard (and I may not have this 100% correct) William went to work as a missionary overseas. Don't know if it was a permanent move or just for a year or two. Will Healy is a QB at the U of Richmond.
  3. "The OWLS got a TD pass called back on their first possession. Unfortunate. The tip drill right before halftime on Boyd's Hail Mary attempt. Unfortunate. The turnovers in the second half. Unfortunate. Those unfortunate plays for SC were very fortunate for Boyd." What, Boyd lucked into a win? Were you watching the game? big: TD on the screen pass was a TD because of the hold (correctly called) that sprung him on the visitors side of the field. Tip drill on the halftime Hail Mary- pure dumb luck for BBS receiver ( good luck for him because I overheard Boyd's QB say " if I scramble around to heave the ball down there and he just stands there and doesn't make a play on the ball- I'll kill him!" Luckily the ball was tipped right to him. Turnovers in second half- one strip and one killer hit. Critical 4th conversion for BBS called back on a hold (correctly called) 5 yards behind the play. Dropped ball on the one-inch line for BBS on third and long in first qtr. I thought that the mistakes were actually more on the BBS side until the last turnover. Considering the intensity in the air tonight I thought that there would be more mistcues than this. Great atmosphere for HS football! smithke- are there game tapes available? my mother-in-law (die-hard Bucs fan)couldn't make the trip and would love to see at least some of the game.
  4. Just want to say thanks to the SC Owls for being such good hosts. I've never ( in the last 57 BBS games) been treated as well as we were tonight. On the drive home I told and re-told my cell phone buds about a 16-17 yr. old young man drenched in sweat wearing an Owls lettermans jacket who tapped me on the shoulder, shook my hand and noticing my BBS sweatshirt said "Your boys played a great game and I hope they win next week." After meeting other players and their parents I realized that it wasn't an isolated case. That tells of the character of these young men. You have every right to be proud of them, they played hard and showed great sportsmanship on and off the field. I really thought that BBS was in trouble after 2 dropped passes on key downs and a couple of backwards-drives due to who-knows-how-many penalties. Turns out that the turnovers (one strip and one train-wreck hit) were what we needed to swing big mo' back to the swashbucklers and secure a threatened lead. All year that's the kind of stuff that has happened TO us instead of FOR us. I heard that on the last fumble the ball carrier for SC broke his collarbone. Is this correct? If it is I hope that he heals quickly and he'll be in our prayers. I have really gotten a kick out of the message boards this week. Y'all rock! I missed getting to meet Fan , 'Twan and Cheyanne by about a minute- my loss.
  5. On a Friday soon in November is a game we'll always remember, When the Bucs from down south played a little smashmouth 'gainst the Owls, who's tree did go "Timber." The Smithies, they're said to be fast, their fans will cheer to the last. But the bunch from the Swamp Want to have one more romp, And leave the fanman all aghast. They're small, those BBS players They're tired of all the naysayers "You're not like last year," Well who is, my dear ? 'Cept Alcoa who has talent in layers. The "Hole" is sure to be tough, Their kids have all the right stuff But the home of old AlGore Might say "we want no more" Of the Bucs who had just enough. So if Region 3 continues An upset at one or two venues The Warriors or Rams? Nite Chickens or Buc fans? Your fans will always defend you! disclamer: this shallow attempt at poetry will not be reprinted in any shape form or fashion, not because of copywrite laws but because it really stinks. the writer shall not be held responsible for pain, anguish and loud groaning due to anything written after midnight EST. batteries not included.
  6. As amazing as it may seem, I'm going to answer a question and talk about THE GAME (in the words of Everette McGill in "O Brother where art thou"- "Can't I depend on you people"? The TSSAA has a policy on "noisemakers" that is discresionary (which means that the refs or administrators can deem pretty much anything as illegal when they feel like it.) I've seen kids lose airhorns, bullhorns, foghorns and cremehorns (they were throwing them, I guess) at the hands of the zebras. I guess somebody thought that the fireworks power could be used for evil (SC) not good (BB) : ) Just kidding! Last year Boyd's offense was straight ahead, smashmouth run-it-down-your-throat. The starting tailback (Matt Peardon, Mr. Football 1A and a genuinely great kid) made it go, but he was surrounded by a group of seniors who were strong threats. This year's O was going to be more of the same, but the starting tailback ( a junior with arguably even higher potential than Matt) blew out a knee in game 2, exploiting the lack of experienced depth at that time. Then the injuries starting piling up. The Great Experiment has continued for the next 9 weeks with the O-plan changing from week to week to fit either the players healthy or the defense they were facing. I have never tried to keep up with a thread this long before. It's killing me! Do you people have jobs? Families? Lives? Buclifer, I know who you are and you've gotta be slacking at the office! I don't get that luxury! Wait... I'm part of this problem! I've been drawn in by the mind-controling posters! Must.... stop....typing..... Thanks to everyone who is supporting their team, This is great.
  7. Quote: Nah...maybe your new name should be Sybil. You've talked to yourself on this site more than Sybil ever did to her other 15 personalities. Now that there's funny, I don't care who you are! Center68- It is obvious that you have never set foot on BBS campus or spoken with any of its teachers, administrators or students. You would sing a vastly different tune! Not all "privates" are alike. It would be the same as saying that SC is full of meth babies and guys with no teeth, it just ain't so! Learn, young grasshopper- never label or pre-judge just because of your own experience! I'm excited about this game! I hope everyone stays healthy, plays to the best of their ability and has safe travel. I think that these teams are different, but pretty evenly matched. Should be a good one!
  8. BTW- I can't possibly be 90210, I've got way too much BR-549 in me! (If you don't get that one, ask your dad!) Seriously though- Boyd has been beat up all year and has had to implement new offenses every week to fit the personel that was healthy. We never really know what it'll be: split-back, veer, spread, Utah spread, pro set, wing t- it has even changed in mid-game at least three times this year. Defensively: 5-3, 4-4, and some dime and nickle packages with he occasional 3-5 thrown in. Usually pretty aggressive. I've heard that Smith Co. likes to air it out- true? I've also heard that your defense is pretty quick in the secondary. My eyewitnesses aren't always 100% reliable though (kind of like my truck) Thanks for the info, Queenbee! Ahem- my spouse wishes to know if.. uuhhh... the "facilities" are... how shall we say this..... multi-port or lesser accomodations? (This is so embarrasing)
  9. Thanks for the vote of confidence, krp. Ain'tOne- Looks like a really nice facility! Dont worry about the extra seating since Boyd's home side only seats about 600 anyway, the die-hard fans will bring the lawn chairs just like home. I don't think that we will travel real well to this one ( maybe 1000 or so) based on experience this year. I still think that's pretty good for a school with 300 students, it's just down a bit from previous years. Hope the band makes the trip, we've got a good one! Now for the really important stuff- What's the concession stand got? What do you reccomend? Do they run out of food by halftime? Where are the bathrooms? (my wife HAS to know that one) Is there a Taco Bell open after the game? Is this a record? Seven pages in 36 hours? This is starting to look like a Temple thread!
  10. fanman- You are THE MAN!!! What a great picture. I can't wait to embarrass H2 with this one. My son and lil Henry have been buds since they moved here (from Jasper schools, Marion fans) in the 5th grade. H2's mom is the daughter of George Bush yet lived near the TN home of Al Gore. javascript:emoticon('',%20'smid_9')By the way- Henry is #19 away and #22 at home. He played his freshman, soph years, took Jr year away from football to lift competitively and came into this year late (but has worked his tail off to catch up.) All of the hype on this board is just that- hype. Friday will be a great football game with Smith Co.'s homefield advantage being the great unknown. If past performance, traditions and momentum mean anything at all them we are all in for a treat. Neither team will have anything to be ashamed of in a loss. Two really good programs. Of course BBS is the underdog (#2 seed, helloooooo...) and in it's first year of being moved up, so the fans aren't "poor mouthing" at all.
  11. One: No Boyd coach or player has ever said or indicated that they were "superior". Two: Lumping Boyd into a pile just because they are a private school is not fair or accurate (nor would lumping Smith Co. into one because they are rural and public) Three: Woodard would be a standout player anywhere he went because of his speed and how hard he practices. Four: We have a great deal of respect for Smith Co. around here and are looking forward to playing. Win or lose it should be a good game. Five: Never wrestle with a pig. You'll both get dirty and smelly but the pig likes it.
  12. I'd also like to wish the folks from Jamestown a safe trip. Please let any of the Boyd supporters know if we can help you at all (other than losing tonight!) I was by the school on Wednewday and there were no spots left for lawn chairs. It should be a good crowd. Good luck York but... GO BUCS!
  13. I think York is near Jamestown, close to the Kentucky line. Is it near Pickett State park? I spent many a nice day up there as a youth. Sounds to me like the Dragons are peakng at a good time. Most that I have talked to have lots of respect for their football program, so it should be a good game. I remember years ago when Boyd played Onieda (similar lattitiude) they were awesome at home. Congrats to Marion- go get Westmoreland!
  14. Thanks MC DAD, How did Marion do tonight? Tyner played a solid game tonight capitalizing on Boyd's miscues and played very well. They are a classy bunch of kids and I saw a lot of very good sportsmanship tonight. Boyd tried a few different offensive sets and never could get comfortable after the first score. They are still a very "football young" team. The defense took a while to get sorted out and by the time they did, it was too late. Congratulations to Tyner on a well played game.
  15. Quote:Now that is hillarious. Boyd Buc, the school that has a booster paying players tuition, complaining about Marion County and South Pittsburg having an advantage. MC DAD, I thought you had more class (and sense) than that. All BUC4 was saying is that certain schools have the advantage of an open area for enrollment (SP and Boyd included) If you've got facts, I'll listen to you, but there is no way that Boyd is doing anything illegal (such as "boosters" payiing tuition.) It just doesn't happen there! The programs at BBS are held to incredibly tight standards, so much so that athletics often suffers for greater concerns (academics, morals, and spiritual development.) One look at the past rosters will reveal that Boyd is ALWAYS undersized and often less skilled than most everyone on the schedule. If anyone was bending rules to get athletes there, they are doing a sorry job! Only one thing to reply to this kind of comment: caca del toro.
  16. Of course Tyner is favored this Friday, being defending region champs and all. What makes this game interesting is that I don't think Boyd has played their best game yet. Even the week 0 blowout against CPA didn't have the kinks out of the passing game yet. With some of the injured guys coming back the Bucs look much better than in weeks 3,4,5 and 6. The boys in Blue (actually white, since it's a road game) will have to eliminate turnovers, dropped passes and penalties to stay in this one, but if they do I feel that this will be a competitive game. My prayer is stilll that there won't be any injuries on either side and that both teams can go into the playoffs full steam. Whoever wins this one: Go wear out the guys from region 4!
  17. My point exactly. This is directed at everyone, not just you. I have more knowledge of this than you could possibly ever imagine. You do not know me so therefore you cannot make that statement. Nor do you know Boyd-Buchanan school very well if your statements are any indication. Good Luck to you and your team this season.
  18. While I don't agree with bragging about graduation rates as it compares to sports, someone needs to inform you about private schools because your comments show a lack hands-on knowledge. Small private schools (most because of religious affiliation or spiritual concerns) accept a wide range of kids. There are plenty of kids at small private schools who struggle with academics and require summer school and extra tutoring. This must be paid for by the parents (above and beyond tuition and taxes.) Never make the mistake that teachers or administrators are "better" at one type of school or another. All who dedicate themselves to educating young people are worthy of admiration. What in the world are these comments doing on this board anyway?
  19. One thing that Coach Akins has done consistently over the years is play up during the regular season to prepare the team for the upgraded speed and strength that they see during the playoffs. When your program experiences some success over a period of time people begin to dodge you. As I understand, it was very difficult filling the schedule this year. No one wanted to play BBS. The funny thing (and I have heard Coach Akins say this already this year) is that this would have been a great year to schedule Boyd as they lost a lot in graduation and with all the injuries to starters. Nobody really knew that Cookeville would be so strong this year. Cookville is to be commended for playing the Bucs because it really shouldn't be a game (maybe they plan on getting the 2nd and 3rd teams a lot of reps, which isn't a bad plan.) If lightening hits and the world wobbles just right and Boyd gives them a game then everybody wins. Cookville gets a great lesson in game prep, Boyd gets some confidence and the fans get a good game. The sheer depth of a 5A school alone would make this an uphill battle. Good luck Bucs, play hard every snap. Eliminate the penalties and turnovers and you'll be surprised how well the game goes!
  20. Wow. What a great game. I was a nervous wreck the whole second half. My congratulations to the Indians and their coaches on great adjustments and playing with emotion and heart when they could have folded their tents (tents, Indians-get it?) The SC bunch played their guts out and I, for one was impressed. Boyd started the game like a house on fire and then played uninspired, plain and simple. You absolutely cannot do that against a quality team like SC. It almost bit them in the posterior, but the defense gathered it up when they had to. I was standing on the home side goal line and saw the 4th and inches play. The reason (IMO) that it wasn't a touchdown is that the runner lost control of the ball at just the wrong time (crossing the plane.) When he regained control he had already been pushed back. Could have been called a fumble from where I stood. The emotions ran high on both sides (I think that each team had one player who caused all the ruckus.) The backfield and receiver motion no-calls were blatant! SC and Boyd both got calls that cost big gains or TD's. Watch film adn it will bear that this wasn't the tightest crew I have seen. Tell you what I haven't heard mentioned on this board (and should be) is that all during the game you could hear Boyd and SC players telling each other "good tackle" or "nice block" and helping each other up after plays. I know that an SC defender put a bone-crusher on Boyds QB at mid field and they both got up and patted each other on the helment. Why haven't we mentioned those plays? Best of luck to SC. I predict that y'all will handle Marion nicely.
  21. Ram Fans (and my alma mater, no less) We all know what has happened to Boyd since game 2 of this season and the injuries just kept piling up. They have installed and ditched at least 2 complete offenses (and who knows how many defenses) trying to find the right combination for the kids that they have left. No this isn't the team from last year, shoot, it isn't even the team from last month! But these kids will survive and give it their best shot. That said- all of the pre-season hype is just that: hype. To this day no one has ever won a game on paper. The announcer at Whitwell said it best: football is a funny game sometimes because anything can happen. Fumbles, rain, injuries- they can strike any team anytime and alter the outcome. Week 10 is approaching but nobody is thinking about it right now. There's next Friday to prepare for. If the Lord delays His return and we have a week 10 my wish is that everyone on both sides of the ball ends the night in one piece!
  22. Just wondering what the SC fans think that the strengths are in this years team? I've heard good things about the QB. Boyd is still ravaged with injuries but starting to get better play from non-starters. Sequatchie, I thought for sure you'd be lighting up the boards on this one. Let me know where you'll be Friday night and (Lord willing) I'll get to meet the famous mod. I'll even buy you a bratwurst (we've got some native northerners who work the concession stand and have turned us good ole boys on to this yankee treat!)
  23. Bledsoe played a good game and I think is better than most give them credit for. Boyd had aTD called back on a bogus block in the back call (film will bear this out.) Boyd also had a TD pass dropped in the end zone. Still too many penalties and turmovers but the offense has started to come around. Congrats to the Pikeville bunch on a hard fought game. BTW- Boyd's kicker can consistently hit 50 yarders and made a 52 in the playoffs last year that was called back on a penalty.
  24. I was there for the jamboree and was also impressed with Bledsoe. They seemd to have struggled a bit as of late, but then so have the Bucs, though the Bucs have played up in classification. The question in my mind is: Will all the injuries to BBS be overcome? Eight starters out (from a school of 290 students) was a big deal against Red Bank. It will take a tremendous show of HEART and strength of will. but I think that the Bucs can do it if they can get their hearts into every play, no matter who is on the field. There is no way that either team can overlook the other or assume that this game will come easily. I'm pulling for BBS and want to wish the Pikeville boys a safe game!
  25. didn't come out last year until the week before Christmas.
