  1. Chad Brooks will be playing for West this year. He's listed as a WR on their official roster.
  2. Justin Pickett has committed to Walters State. Pickett is just one of the keys to what is shaping up to be a huge recruiting year for the Senators.
  3. I'm sorry, but Hillsboro definitely does not have a depth advantage on Morristown West. I'm sure you Burro fans remember the packed sideline of players from Maryville the last couple of years, well West has more players on this year's roster than they have had in a while. I believe they dress 90 or more for each game, and they play up to 50-60 players each game with no one player playing on both sides of the ball. Hillsboro may have an experience edge, but they haven't won the gold ball yet. That makes them even with West in state titles, so the experience factor is mute. I see a close game developing on Saturday with both teams being pretty equal. I'll say West by 3.
  4. Brandon Fanney from Morristown West is being offered by Virginia Tech, Alabama, and several others. No offer from UT yet, but maybe the Vols will open their eyes to him if he performs well at the Blue Cross Bowl Saturday.
  5. rvd, Take I-81 to Exit 12 and turn right on the 160 Bypass. Take the South Cumberland Street exit, and turn right onto S. Cumberland towards town. Go to the intersection of Morris Boulevard and turn right at the red light at the Chevron gas station, which is on the corner at the light. When you turn right, the stadium is two blocks up the street on the right at East High School.
  6. West is beginning to peak at the right time, and the defense is playing outstanding. Greeneville will be a better challenge than South and TN High, but West beat them 37-0 during the regular season. The return of Chase Greenway will help out the Devils, but it won't be near enough. PREDICTION: Morristown West 35, Greeneville 7.
  7. I am in no way a Jefferson County fan there BC. I'm a Morristown West grad, as are you, and my support goes to West. As for the West/TN High game, I call on the voice of the East High Hurricanes, WCRK's Mike Rypel, who asked his broadcast colleague Gary Cox for his analysis of the Trojans and Vikings after East lost to TN High last week. Cox stated, "West will win by four tocuhdowms, at least. The West defense is too talented for them." As for a backup to that point, East held TN High to 38 yards rushing through three and a half quarters last week, and their defense is nowhere near as good as West's defense. Also, East passed for 290 yards on the Vikings, so John Minnich may have a career day. Look for West to come away with a big win. I'll say: West 41, TN High 7.
  8. 1) George Quarles - Maryville - I met the man and had the opportunity to talk with him on their way to the State Championship game last year, and he is a class act. Plus, four titles in five years, that is pretty darn good. 2) Don Woods - Morristown West - Some people that I am colleagues with don't like him, but I believe he is an underrated coach. He has got a lot out of this year's team after most thought they couldn't contend for a state title. 3) Scott Meadows - Jefferson County - Simply put, Meadows is a winner. I'm glad he didn't stick around at Tennessee because he was made to be a high school coach. He's done an excellent job for the Patriots the last two seasons. 4) Bruce Lussier - Oak Ridge - Lussier stepped in for the Wildcats a few years back, and he has kept the winning tradition at Oak Ridge alive. Lussier's squad could take a big step towards a state title if they can defeat Jefferson County on Friday night at the 'Ship. 5) Dave Rider - retired, formerly of Elizabethton - There is no mistaking his accomplishments as head man for the Cyclones. He had several great players go through Betsy while he was there, including his grandsons the Witten boys.
  9. The Morristown West first-team defense held Sullivan South to negative yards rushing. Also, the West offense was stout. The 38-7 score was misleading because the Trojans had four scores called back for penalties, and three of those were over 40 yards. The score easily could have been 66-7, and West could've had more than 500 yards in total offense. Charles Rucker rushed for 166 yards, and Bradley James would have been over 100 yards if his 60 yard touchdown was not called back.
  10. SCORE CORRECTION: Anderson County 31, Rutledge 14.
  11. Upper East TN 4A: Next Week - Tennessee High at Morristown West; Cherokee at Greeneville.
  12. Morristown West wins 38-7 over Sullivan South. West plays the TN High/Morristown East winner next week. Cherokee 25, Elizabethton 13 late in the game. Looks like a Cherokee/Greeneville matchup next week.
  13. Morristown West 38, Sullivan South 0 with 3:35 left in the game.
  14. Anderson County leads 31-14 over Rutledge late in the game.
