  1. Yes in the late 70's Father Ryan played there for 2 or 3 years. I believe in 77 and 78 went to the semi-finals one year lost to CBHS, marred by a fight, played that game in the liberty bowl. I suppose they will play there for the next 3 yrs until there stadium is built.
  2. I agree! Kudos to you for saying it !
  3. I would like to see less media in pro and college players lives. I believe that all players should be able to express themselves on and off the field. I wish old school people would see that times change and that not all things from the old days are good it is what they are use to. Let todays players define the game as we defined our game many years ago. If you don't like the officials become one. That is one field that is wide open for employment. I know I may get ripped but that is what I wish.
  4. No he has not but he is currently working toward it. No, he is not involved in this situation. In private schools you do not have to have certifacation but in the public schools you do. It is a stumbling block for him but he has a nice gig at BA. Hopefully he will get his chance because he would be one heck of a coach. Kids love him he is like a pied piper with his f-ball players. Success has been rough since 2002 because of a change. Overall great coach, wrong time.
  5. I have to say JP would be a good fit also but a think timing is not right for him. Coach Flatt wants to give to a BA boy the next time after the TM travesty. Flatt fired TM after getting to the champship so he is not the greatest judge of coaching talent. But what would bother me his alma mater did not hire him.
  6. Get there to watch the J.V. game you should be there in time. Their is no Girls game so the game starts at 7:00.
  7. One question who beat Ravenwood? Germantown in 2003? Brentwood in 2002?
  8. They may but the job will not be given to anyone until after the new year.
  9. I have not seen him play this year. Do not think this is the only place he has coached also. He coached in college and at Glencliff. I guess your mind is a little old and I did not explain well enough for the older set.
  10. I have no dog in this hunt, I do know Coach Mac and know him as a quality person and coach. I have coached with him and against him his players have shown class and always seemed to play extremely hard. I have not seen them in play in person( I saw them play on CSS) his kicking game is great, the run game is great and they play solid D. I think to advance in the playoffs you have to be able to defend the pass and be able to throw it. Coach Mac has improved in both areas the last 2 years give him time he will be at the blue cross bowl soon. That from a guy who knows a little football and is a fan of Coach Mac. Good luck to the Bears in the future.
  11. I don't know the problem but I do know the man. He cares more about young men than any coach I have coached with. I don't know anything about the talent level. But I believe there are other factors controlling his succes or failure. The questions I have is does the community accepted him? Are the parents behind him and support his discipline? I heard there was a parent to bring out some petition to get him fired. Is that true? What did he do? Was it some parent that son was not playing and decided he wanted to be in control? I am trying to be open to both sides. All I know is that if you don't want him there will be people waiting in line for him to hire him. It is sad in todays culture that a football coach is subject to this type of abuse and his family.... did anyone think about the man's family. I will be hear to defend Coach U ( that's what his friends call him) from some of you vultures. I hope there are more positive people out there that admires a strong coach like I do.
  12. No, I am glad to know there is a new fan for the Irish. I think what I'm trying to say is that Pittman is a good coach also and I thought the post kind of took a jab at him. Did not know that the reply would cause such a rukus or I would have left it alone. FRHS has not won 4 games in a long time so it would be a great accomplishment. Welcome Ole Dad to the Ryan family and ask around about Pittman they will tell you a little bit about him and I think he would be someone you could respect also. Let end this topic and GO IRISH!
  13. Obvious your a expert on east tn football. Good luck ORHS.
  14. Let me say again I'm sure Pittman is happy that Ryan is doing well. This was a site for BGA-FRHS. I said nothing about his work ethic I'm sure he is a hard worker. I just asked with what I thought was with some class to not mention his name. Now I you took acception to that I'm sorry but I did not attack Lussier if anything you decided to attack me and Pittman. I refuse to argue with someone who can't interpt a post, meaning whether it is an attack or a simple post. Again I say I wish nothing but good luck to the Irish and Lussier. And for you Ole Dad you sound like an Oak Ridge fan I hope Oak Ridge has a season you can be proud of.
  15. Do you know Pittman? I would not say that because you don't know him and he sure doesn't know you. Great for Ryan that they have a good coach. He is as happy for Ryan as the Alumni. He is a Ryan Alum. He wishes nothing but the best. This a BGA-Ryan post. His name need not be mentioned.
  16. After taking some time and really studying the problem Ryan has to go out and try get the parochial schools back .Tate and the Buggs kid at Vanderbilt that went to St. Joesph's, Erik Davis St.Edwards, Dominique Morris Christ the King. Those are all parochial school kids that made huge difference for private schools that could have gone to Ryan. I don't think it is finachial aid. They need to control what they can control and go back to the basics. Strengthen their base ( parochial schools) and build from the ground up. I do not think that Ryan Alumni will let them drop to D-I but they did let Coach Page drop from 5-A to 4A in 95 and 96 which built the base for the 97 championship. It could be the answer but Coach Lussier seems to have a good idea what it takes to win. They need to be patient, Rome was not built in a day and they have to be in D-II for three more years anyway. Good luck to the Irish and be patient.
  17. I thought the article was great. It really shows the heart of the problem in metro. I think your statement about Statford is really irrevelent because in the early 90's Stratford was a power and every Metro coach would have liked to have that job. I think Scott should have done like most of the coaches that got turned go back to work and continue to keep beating the snot out of metro and do it quietly. Paul caught Scott at a very fragile moment. Scott was just venting because he has been turned down couple of times before. Paul did do a good job by bring the problem of quality people being ignored simply because the choose a different route to become a head coach. I personally am happy that Coach Armstrong has gotten a chance. But to say that there was not a better candidate than Richard Campbell is silly. He got the job because he coached at Stratford first, is that a way a quality athletic department hires people? I think if Paul was writing about that hiring practice. Just because you coached at Stratford you should not get the next attractive job. Did he win at Stratford? Is he a good person? Is he a role model for the kids? I hope so for metro sake he is all these things or we will be having the same conversation in three years.
  18. If Nolan is the former principal at oakland don't you think Marty Euverard would be the most logical candidate? He has a great relationship with him and who wouldn't like to start his own program. If he is not the one he probably turned it down. Also, is Nolan going to stay the Superintendent? I heard he was going to and a another principal would be hired. Does anyone know?
  19. But he is a great coach and has been part of two great programs. He is not certified but could be possibly be the best coach in this area. He is sharp, the kids love him, has a wealth of knowledge of the game and the people he coached under were the best of the best. If metro is serious about having a great football program choose him. His mom and dad taught for 30 years in metro so give him a break and I hope he gets an chance.
  20. Austin's back as a coach so the rilvary could be a great chance to get back some intensity.
  21. What about the Maplewood coach in the early 90's? Van Hoose or something like that. Maplewood was pretty good then but had a wealth of talent.
  22. I hope Mr. Tribue does make the descision. Has anyone heard of anyone besides Metro coaches. I heard there is an interest in some of the private school coaches. One at brentwood academy and it is not Carlton Flatt . They say he coached at Ryan.
  23. Maybe BA doesn't but it does matter that Trinity QB will be the #1 high school qb in the nation. They have over 130 boys out for football. It will be early August, they will not have anyone going 2 ways, it will be 100 degrees and they will not have any pity. MBA did a great job in the clinic bowl but they have no recent history with Trinity. All they know is that MBA is the uncrowned best team in the state, they will come to Nashville with a purpose.MBA will have to prepare just like the Clinic Bowl but they will not have a 31-6 loss to motivate them. I expect the game to be close because Fisher will improve but as we all saw how special Ingle Martin was this Brohm kid is just as special so, if you want to see the next Carson Palmer go to Tommy Owen Stadium on August 23 and a hint to some of you he will be wearing green and white.
  24. I am glad M.B.A. is taking the Challenge. It will be great for Tn football in general. I wish some of the public schools such as Maryville,Riverdale, and D-Bennet would take on some of these schools and maybe they wouldn't be so intimidated by the private schools
  25. What is meant by mediocre division? Year in and year out all the division II teams defeat division I one teams. I hope this does not offend anyone but this is the best division in the state. I will agree it is watered down, the state playoffs are only 2 games, but ask a Riverdale or Gallatin to come in this league they couldn't handle it. It is not the quanity of the opponents but the quality. Also, the coaching is far superior.
