  1. is riverdale a running team or a throwing team? The key to cookeville winning is creating some turnovers ( which they have been doing well recently 13 ints in the last 4 games) and then taking advantage of them. against a defense as good as riverdales, cookeville probably wont be able to maintain long drives so they need to take advantage of good field position. also, they need about 2 big plays ( a long paxton run, defense score, etc.) As fast as gus is, if he can get into open space, he has a chance of taking it all they way, which is an improvement from past cav teams. Bottom line is CHS has to play near perfect on friday, if they do, then they can advance
  2. disgustedfan, do not use your personal problem with cav43 to attack an entire senior class. We had some great guys on that team. we went to riverdale and gave a very good team all they wanted, despite being short one stud of an offense lineman.
  3. I thought cookeville would win, but they DOMINATED. If anyone still had any doubts about cookeville's defense this should take care of that. They are for real. Should be closer than some might expect next week
  4. I guess McGavock forgot to show up tonight. This gives Cookeville alot of momentum going into the last week and then into the playoffs. And all that talk about JV players playing more than normal in this game? obviously you have forgotten this is coach J we are talking about. He will do everything in his power to win. And if i was a senior this year i would do everything i could to stay on the field. You never know when your last play as a Cav might be, especially against McGavock. Good luck against Franklin County, make history!
  5. #4, i think is name is AJ stewart is scary. If they get the ball in his hands and give him even a small seem he will take it to the house.
  6. Lebannon was up 28-6 at one point but the Cavs scored a touchdown with 6 seconds left in the half, which helped the confidence level alot. After that the defense just stepped it up and finally made some big plays.
  7. I have seen this on numerous post, and i assume it refers to seven good teams? maybe in the same conference? I havnt been able to figure it out or which teams it refers to so maybe someone could fill me in. Thanks

    David Wolke

this is kind of off the subject but region4fan, i believe eric locke is now down in greenville playing for the tusculum pioneers. but you made your point without making a few mistakes he should still be playing D1-A football.
  9. the defense played tough in the scrimmage. They gave up a couple big plays but that is too be expected as every body is learning the schemes. The improved team speed showed during the scrimmages, with several break away runs and great coverage from the dbs. The offensive line showed signs of improvement thursday night but still most improve over the next month which i believe they will do. If they can it will be an exciting team to watch.
  10. sorry about the last thread turning into something other than what it was started for. I think i've regained a hold of my mature side. The workouts went great, coach white's running program has probably been the most helpful in the last 4 summers. The biggest improvements were made in that category by the bigger guys you plan on playing offensive/defensive line. I hate to comment to much on a depth chart because its early, and we still have camp coming up, and anything can happen as im sure you know. this is just an early look at things. ledford at qb, gus paxton, toline at tailback (toline will get plenty of action on defense so hes going to need someone to help at tb) buckner and turner will get many many carries as well from both the tb and fb spots. the defensive backfield is another area where several people could end up starting with several solid people competeing for the spots. bobby lebel, rich froning, ledford, toline, brady adams, stearman, wolf. im probably leaving a few out. turner, buckner, and tribble would appear to be the best linebackers at this point. After camp, more questions could probably be answered about each position, especially the offensive line.
  11. But im done with the petty arguing. I have finally realized that the more i say back to you the more trouble you are going to try and cause, maybe you arnt a jerk and just do it for fun who knows. Im going back to just posting about football
  12. its 14-9 the last two years i dont know before that. Or i could wait till i graduate, THEN move out, but only to go to college so someday i can get a real job. Sorry if your move out now and flip hamburgers the rest of my life plan doesnt work for me.
  13. Smith County has a good program, and yes they would be a tough game. They would give alot of people a run for there money. And if you knew Cookeville played schools that are the same size as them what was the point of your arguement about " a school the size of Cookeville should win more games". If they are playing schools of equal size then that wouldnt be an advantage. Its not hard to see why you are an adult and your life revolves putting down high school kids over the internet. The fact that you are so disrespectful to young men who dedicate so much of there time and effert to the game of football shows that you are probably an old out of shape overzealous redneck fan who has never played a snap of football in his life. A real man would have something better to do then argue with people a third his age.
  14. First of all, you have made it clear that you dont really know what you are talking about. All 5A schools are going to be of similar size, which is the point of the classifications. Second Cookeville won 8 games last year not to mention the region championship. Then they were only a field goal away from being one of the final 8 teams in the state in last years playoffs. Last, im confused about Cookeville not winning enough games to please you makes you so bitter towards them.
  15. muffin- Im not really trying to be arguementitive, but I am just curious about your obvious dislike of the Cookeville program. Did they beat your school, or did you have a bad experience with a fan, coach, or player, etc.?
  16. well since we play together i wont have to give my name out. Im the only guy on the team with red hair.
  17. do you play for cookeville bigH?
  18. Longsnapper, i never said he didnt have blocking. last year he had great blocking. My point was that he is so big and strong that he can get 4 yards a carry even without great blocking because he is hard to bring down. Throw in the fact he was running behind guys like you and the other 3 seniors and thats how buck went over 1000 yards last year. I didnt meant to imply anything negative about last year's line. And to the guy who accused me of not knowing my football please forgive me if i confused the term running back with the term tailback. Trust me I know my football, I've only played for 8 years now
  19. even though he's not a RB i will throw his name out there because he will be the main ball carrier for Cookeville this here. Stevie Buckner will be very effective in this region. He's very tough just because of the fact he could get 4 yards a carry even without very much blocking. He's just that big and strong.
  20. They sure are. Camp is tough but its been great for the program.
  21. starting on June 9 the cavs will compete in 7 on 7 passing drills with other schools from the area. They start at 5 and will continue till about 7 every monday night. Also they will compete at the TTU passing camp on June 14 which is going on all day. Anyone who is interested in checking out how the cavs passing game will look should try to come see them at least on the 14 when they will compete against numerous teams who have a history of success.

    Combine

this wasnt the hard turf they have for outdoor stadiums. It was really spongy. If you woudl stop and think about it, if these people were at the combine which was for college prospects then they probably are good football players and probably good atheletes so i doubt many of them except a few linemen were "just slow" as you put it.
  23. georgia also produces a high number of atheletes and solid D1 players. not like texas or florida but it still is probably ahead of tennessee
  24. another guy to watch on the offensive line this year will be daniel norrod. hes very big and very strong and moves pretty good for a tackle. If he steps up and plays the kind of football hes has the potential to play he would help give the cavs a very solid line
