  1. Greenbrier, you boys came out in Greenbrier Football fashion and ran that ball. I won't name all the boys for fear that I'll miss someone but to each and every one of the Bobcats that have grown with this team and that are seniors that played that last game Friday, we love you guys. We are proud of all of you, because you've perserved in a season of injuries and second guesses. I'd like to see these returning boys start early and work hard in the off season. Sort the ones that will give it their all from the ones that just want to wear the Bobcats uniform. This short season will only be like throwing fuel on a fire, because when you have years of playoffs, it sometimes takes a little upset to say we're going back. And go back, we will. Find a new blueprint and rebuild even stronger. I know we will. Thanks again to all our Seniors. You boys are OUR Bobcats, just like all the ones before you. A special thanks to Lance for choosing to come to Greenbrier, and for having the pleasure of watching you play. You brought a "new DEAL" to this game. Good luck to WH next week.
  2. Sorry When I was thinking "let the Devils feel the PAIN of not going to the playoffs" He must have heard RAIN instead. But Titans is right, I just checked...the field is tarped, well for the most part (so pay attention to which endzone they choose if they win the toss, Coach), there is a big truck (CSS I guess) on the sidelines and my first thought was "My gosh, they are having to load mud into the a dump truck" (because you can barely see the truck over the HUMP where the Devils sit) and it looks like they are stocking the concessions stands. So I'd say we're on. Hour to hour forecast is showing the rain to stop between 3-6 pm and then start with thunderstorms after 6pm til 2am. So White House, after you pick those tarps up off the field, just pass them out to the stands. We can make a tent on both sides and let someone peak out to update us on who's winning... Oh, boys, go through the garage when you get home and DROP those uniforms. They will need some ULTRA Biz.
  3. I keep thinking 13-7. Who? Good question. Flip a coin. I just checked for Volleyball update---Lady Cats won again today against Jackson South Side. Next game is against Page. If they win that one, they are in the semi. GO Lady Cats
  4. I had lunch in the parking lot beside the White House field today. Did a little reading, a little praying, a little daydreaming (yes, about Fridays scoreboard) and a little more praying (no, not about the football game). At first glance, I thought they had tilled the ground, but no, it is grass, but it's as dead as the Bobcats chances of going to the playoffs. There were guys out there painting yardline numbers or else I would have gotten out to see if I could put a jinx on the White House sidelines (but no, I don't truly believe in that either). Here's looking forward to a great game Friday. Good atmosphere and friendly folks (don't hate us because we are in your way--it's just the way it turned out). I pray that there are no injuries and that the weather is not miserably cold so the fans can get into this game. As far as the Bobcats being the underdog, I wouldn't expect a prediction of anything else. White House has the option to go on, while we don't. But that's not saying we won't try to get another win under our belts. The Bobcats are working hard to make a last "hoorah". I truly hope they do. But REGARDLESS of who wins, I would really like to see a good sportmanship game. If the Devils win congratulate them and wish them well, Cats. If the Bobcats win, I hope the Devils will understand that this season has been so close we could taste it, and our Seniors want to give this last game their best!' Good luck to both sides. Let's KEEP it neighborly!!
  5. It's a big week for Greenbrier! While our football team has had a "down" season, Friday night we play our next-door neighbors (and rivals), the White House Blue Devils. Our playoff hopes are quenched for this year, but a Greenbrier win means the Devils will hang out with us and we'll watch the playoffs from the stands. If they win, we'll cheer them on as they go in as a #3 or #4 seed. And although it will be no celebration, Greenbrier will let another team "borrow" the Region title for at least a year after holding on to it for three consecutive years. (Way to go, CATS!!) BUT, that fact will be brighten by the fact the the Greenbrier LadyCats Volleyball team will be playing for a State championship in the next few days! These girls have had a 36-6 season with a perfect 10-0 in region. GO GIRLS! Go Greenbrier! Make this be a winning week across the board!
  6. Note to hudsonj: WHO started that thread? I agree with this post, that Brad and Ryan make big differences out on the field. Without them the scores would have been much worse. I also agree, I've wondered why the blocking has been the main issue I've seen in the Sycamore, and Macon games. The defense has to stay focused on the block to open the holes. Next year was mentioned. The returning Jr's (man, where has the time gone?) next year will be a wide variety of guys that will need experience and hard practice. I just hope that those guys will get focused and ready to work hard off season to make a difference next season. Zach, Clint, Ryan, and Michael will need to step up and be motivators for the coming team to hit hard and make the Men of Summer sessions. Dedication pays off.
  7. Way to go JBS...right after the game we listen for your scores, and no doubt, JBS is Boro' bound....keep it UP!
  8. Good post, Titans...Greenbrier will recover. We may be down but I have faith that it won't be for long. Here's to next week. I don't think WH will get much talk out of Greenbrier this coming week.
  9. Congrats Bison. If you guys played WH like you played us, you are the team to go represent this Region at the Boro. Sounds as if the game went pretty much like ours although I can't remember how long it's been since I've heard of WH being shut out. PC shut us out and it had been six years for us. So Bison go and take care of business with PC. You guys really deserve it after coming back from that 1-9 season last year. Having a relative on SC's team (#22) makes me say GO Bison...the new Region champs, I think. As for WH, we fought hard tonight but our game came down to missed FG. The one with Macon and Sycamore have been so close that it's enough to make us sick. One more (take it easy on us!) and we can heal and get back to work on next year. But we will give it our best shot next Friday. I'm sure tonight's loss will have ya'll ready to play.
  10. Especially since most of the parents of the players on this team are GHS alumni themselves.
  11. So I am unclear on what you are saying. You think there should be a change of mindset, or a change of coaches? If you've ever coached a team of kids, you know that everyone wants to be the pitcher, or short stop or quarterback. How do you let them all play, and what if there are one or more that are equally as good. In my years of playing ball, the worst thing that ever could take place is to not KNOW your role on a team. The position, the gameplan, the expectations. When my son was in TBall it was a statement of "everyone go out and take a position" but as he grew the coaches access and determine who has the best capability for which position was needed. Looking back I don't think we had another player to fill the role that Roger did as well as he did. And yes there were other great players out there. In fact, my son and I were just discussing Jacob last night and that he was an AWESOME ballplayer. So was Clint Russell. But we agreed their talent was overshadowed. It was great to see Jacob on the field the other night in pre-game. He still is one of the best to walk on Greenbrier's field, if you ask me. In our discussion last night, that State team was compared to a well-oiled machine that each knew their part, and one part without the other would have never worked, and each of those boys can always carry that pride. Unforunately, I am concerned about the lack of enthusiasm I see on this team moreso than their abilities. I think the coaching staff (all of them) work hard with these boys and are just as perplexed about the solution to how to get a win as all of we are. But in the same sentence I feel we've been riding high for quite a while, so why not dance with the one(s) that brung ya? These coaches will figure it out and separate the "men from the boys", the wills and the won'ts. I can almost guarantee it.
  12. Okay, okay. You do realize that Roger is graduated, right? Two years ago. I also hope that you realize that while Roger was the running back, he was not the only player on the field. What made that state team so good is that they had played together for years and had learned what to expect from each other. Do you honestly think, that can never happen again for Greenbrier? If you do, then you need to get a season pass at Vanderbilt. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that Roger wasn't good. He was. He was the repeated name in the papers and in the media for years. He was the one that brought Greenbrier recognition for the Mr. Football award, and I've watched the crowd light up like a Christmas tree when he comes into the stands. Nice guy, nice family, BUT...that is past and Greenbrier WILL move on. Some people are just never happy with the coaching or the results. I sat last week and this week and heard negative comments to the point of namecalling by two different Bobcat fans, and I wonder what is wrong with these people? Have we become so caught up in the teams successes that we can't accept a down season? We are not at practices day after day, running til we can't catch our breath when we could be hanging out with friends after school, we're not out there every Friday night, getting pounded on every play, or standing shivering on the sidelines. We're not the coaches that study the films from Friday to Friday trying to second-guess another teams strategy and then having the fingers pointed at us when the boys are injured, are not playing up to par, as if we are the ones playing the game. No, WE are just the fans that show up and have come to expect a winning game. It appears now that some expectations are becoming demands. It reminds me of one of my kids old books "When You Give a Mouse a Cookie"... I won't go on to repeat all the things that BigCountry has named about Greenbrier's successes. But I keep thinking "THREE consecutive Region Championships"....how many teams can say that? Greenbrier is a respected name in high school sports. Many of these players that stand on the sidelines know that they may never get to play, but they are just proud to wear that Bobcat jersey. I see more Greenbrier shirts when out at Rivergate or about than ever and that is simple pride. I for one bought more Greenbrier items AFTER our first shutout in years. There's not much certain in life anymore, but I have faith and know that Greenbrier will be BACK.
  13. Do you mind if I borrow that soapbox?? You said it all right there! I am more disappointed with the fans than anything in Greenbrier. Yeah, we all show up and have a fantastic traveling fanbase, and yes, we're into the game when it's a tight nail-biter, but let us get way ahead or way behind, and these fans turn to stone. There are a few that cheer all the way through, clapping hands, and telling the guys to keep their heads up, but this is the ONE thing that disapponts me most in Greenbrier. If the fans are going to come, don't worry about "looking proper"...MAKE SOME NOISE, even if it's only clapping!! It's a FOOTBALL game! And to one man that never stopped having a loud conversation during the Hall of Fame Induction, thanks alot. Some people WANT to hear the announcements, the band and the presentations. Obviously not you. Okay, I'm sorry to the ones that do participate, but I HAD to get that off my chest.
  14. Well for the SC guys that came tonight, thanks for trying to support us. If you remember last year at all, you know that the game you played against us this year and the game you saw tonight is a young, rebuilding team. It seems like several of the players that do have some experience are hurt. I counted about 8 injured on our sidelines, and another one tonight. Big losses to our team. We just are not playing good football this year. As you saw tonight, I don't think even the calvary had as many flags as PC did. I don't know if they were really that good, or we just were that off. As of tonight, SC has my support to go win this region. As Voltage said earlier, I can't believe I am saying this to another team IN our region, but GO SC....you guys definitely are the team to beat and I'm not sure anyone can this year. Good luck in the next two weeks.
  15. My take on this game is that I really don't know if PC was that good, as it was that we we had such a bad game. Obviously, PC couldn't determine where the line of scrimmage was, and holding was a big part of their game. True, we lost to a fast team, but after seeing them to play tonight, I think Station Camp will beat them, and possibly even White House (sorry if there are any Blue Devils here reading). SC's defense is stronger than what we showed PC tonight, and therefore I think PC won't get much against SC. We are battle-weary for sure. When the Cats walked down the sideline at halftime, it almost looked as if there are two teams. The team in the jerseys and the team of the walking wounded. I'm just hoping we make it though the next two games without more injuries. I knew we were down, but I didn't know we were this down. More than one person said tonight that these Cats are not playing with the spirit of a winning team. They are a young team and it shows. It's going to take a little time to reload, but reload, we will. Well from what I've read, it looks like we won't be making the playoffs this year. In retrospect of the injuries, I really feel that even if we did, we wouldn't be at our competitive best. No the games are not over and we're not giving up on our Cats, but statistically, it's certain that our streak of holding the Region Title for three consecutive years is done, but look at what we accomplished. 23-3 (so far) in Region play is nothing to sneeze at. Greenbrier is tough, have good players and a good coaching staff. We have had great seasons, and consecutive years of graduating great ballplayers, and eventually, it comes time to reload, and look toward the future. Cats, win or lose, rain or shine, I will be behind this team. We've still got two more to go. Yes, we may be bruised and battered, but we will "never say die". At the end of this game, I thought of the beginning of a song I've heard that says "I have no shame, I'm proud of where I came from"....that is just the way of the Greenbrier Bobcats. We've got two more games, Cats....dig deep and find a way. With that said, you guys won one victory tonight...nobody ever had to yell at you with a megaphone every single play... "STAY BEHIND THE WHITE LINE".....
  16. SC doesn't just have #1, Toney...#24 is just as good as Toney, they just give the ball to Toney more.
  17. Well hello from Greenbrier and an old neighbor! Looking forward to coming over to Station Camp for my first time. I hear its a nice facility. My step-niece graduated there last year, and my cousin's three sons are past/present Bison football players. Good luck to both teams...but here's rooting for the Cats!
  18. Thanks for the info. I was just wondering since there were no stats in the Tennessean. (He is my cousin's son, but I don't see them much.)
  19. Is SC's Jordan Hamblen hurt? I noticed from stats he hasn't played the last two games.
  20. My son said he met you last Friday night in the box. His words were "he's not very old"...
  21. I disagree. If they were in a 'different class' last year, why did they lose the first and the last game? Good, yes, but different class..I don't think so.
  22. When I get to wishing that Greenbrier would get some bigger stores, more industrial trade, etc, I just need to think about how White House's population has boomed and the effects of that, and I'm over it pretty quickly. Sitting on the interstate has advantages and disadvantages to the growth. A new Walmart, lots of fast food chains, more people. It's beginning to resemble the beginning stages of Long Hollow Pike, but unforunately, White House is the only town I know that is halved by two counties. I think most everyone surrounding White House agrees you guys got a bad deal. Greenbrier may not get much commercialization since we don't have the interstate but Hwy 41 is very much a beaten path, but forunately we are too close to bigger towns like Goodlettsville/Springfield/White House to HAVE to develop because everything is so handy. And while the subdivisions are popping up everywhere over here, I'm thankful that..so far...we remain ONE school system, and it's still a SMALL town. That's the way I like it.
  23. If Marshall County brings the team they brought to Greenbrier and Page brings the team they brought to White House, this will be over with quickly in Page's favor. Who wants it more? Good luck to both teams.
  24. But Beech charges to park....or they did when we played them. BTW..Tim..we're OPEN this week.... I think we might WIN...
