  1. Congrats to both Riverdale and Franklin for making it to state, esp the alma matter Franklin. After our success in 2002, and the continued further success of the seniors of 2003 you all have impressed everyone by taking it all the way to state. Quite a feat from a team that got no respect coming into the season. On to the game and all...I think TJ and staff keep the Rebels in the game no matter who they play in 5A, I just don't understand how any team that makes it this far could be considered such underdogs. I'm not saying Franklin will win, or Riverdale either, I just think Franklin should get more respect than is shown on this thread. One interesting thing I noticed on here is that Coach Heimerdinger talked to TJ or something...basically that he was at that Franklin- Brentwood game. Well I noticed that the Titans ran a type of that Notre Dame box offense on a few running plays today against the Texans. Not out of the shotgun, but still it made me wonder. Back to the Franklin-Riverdale game I hope to see tons of people come out, and I'm sure Franklin will pack their stands being 1st timers, and hope Riverdale fans support their team as well. Hopefully I'll be there with some old friends as well. I know Riverdale has that turf advantage, or whatever, but I think ball control will be the biggest factor (as it should be) with Franklin eating up that clock to keep Riverdale's O off the feild. Franklin's D should hold strong, and I'm certain Riverdale's will too, but I like the fact that Franklin has beaten a team with a 4 star prospect at tailback headed for UT. All in all it should be a great game and I feel it will be a lot closer than people think with Franklin pulling an upset off...I bet this is a game where one or two big plays determine the outcome. Should be an interesting week...Good luck to both teams and GO REBELS
  2. This should be a great game and maybe I'll get to go out to Germantown with some old friends to watch it. That being said I think Franklin will win in a close one. I got to play with some of these guys when I was a senior and from seeing a few games over college breaks and reading up on here I can tell how much they have matured. Without a doubt this is due to Coach Johnson, the man is an incredible coach to take a program that was fortunate to finish 5-5 and make the playoffs and turn that into one of the best in the state, despite not having all the athletes and size of other schools. He reminds me of a Bill Belichick type guy, plugging in players to fit his schemes - just look at the offense he has used to go 12-1 with compared to having a talents like Solima the year before that, and Ref the year prior. That's a heck of a coaching job working with a 2 QB situation and seeing rare success with it bc he caters to their strengths. He's also done a similar job to the Broncos of taking any running back available to him and surrounding him with good blocking and running to the backs' advantages . He's had Darrian, Tony and Zo over the years and I'm only pretty sure they've all been 1,000 yard backs. TJ's coaching and certainly his assistant coaching will help the Rebels win this game. I know this post is biased bc it only deals with Franklin, but honestly I just don't care. I think that the Franklin coaching staff will have a great gameplan going into Germantown this friday focused on all aspects of the game, and due to this win a close, hardfought game.
  3. WesVols-Being a Frat Rat is going great and appreciate your well wishes. Glad to hear stuff you've got some stuff lined up for fall...we're actually in the same major, maybe we'll have some classes down the road. as for the Franklin players playing at the next level, to me it's a toss up. Murray will definately have the most to prove/ work through with being a walk on. Kevyn has battled through adversity before though and I think he'll adapt. He's a college size receiver. Bell is a real good guy and sounds like a nice fit for Samford (is this right). He'll probably see more time returning throughout his time there. As for Solima the kid has a mid ranged animal growing on his right arm. Used to throw with him at practice to pass time. His gun from 15 yards in mid-november was great for my hands. He'll be good and if he gets the chance good really quickly. As for Nichols he has been my best friend of the bunch and is all around athletic. Really strong pound for pound and fast in everyway I've ever heard speed defined...cutting, sprinting, 40 yard, random burst, catching and running for any amount of yards etc. I hope he keeps his knee protected and gets to know the turf in Cookeville. Same for Solima...that stuff and ligaments had a divorce in the mid 70's and it is the last of a dying breed. Ryan should have a solid go round up there..If there's one thing he focuses on in life it's football. I hope they all have great careers at their colleges and stay on track. By the way the fieldkeeper for our beloved rebels also doubles as the head coach. (When I was there he would cut the grass before and after classes until winter took over that deed) "The Vols without Clausen are like Lance Armstrong without cancer. A lot better."
  4. WesVols, I'm a soph. up at UT along with you. Went to good ol GES with you...and if I recall correctly I'm one frat house down from you on the right (Not the one that looks like a huge lego). Anyway T thanks for the info on Franklin and I'm glad you could remember me...hope college life away from home treats you well, it's a blast. Wes keep up the good work on MTV-U a la knoxville...I'm sure somewhere up there at least 1 person is actually watching (just kidding-my friend tess is your co-host). As for the Rebels I talked to some seniors and they said that Mack Hibbitt, Trip's litle brother was playing which was interesting. I hope the guys get another good season with TJ...after 3 years of mediocrity it was nice to be a part of something like that and I'm glad these guys have a chance at 3 years of steady winning. As for Derrick and the AAU stuff I hope he gets to play he is an athlete, but I do wonder because I've heard that same story of him playing then not, and back and forth. I'm impressed by Nowell changing the offense...probably a good call-one of the only coaches that could pull that switch off without worry all while having a 1/2 pound of chewing tobacco in the lower front lip. Anyway glad to hear news about FHS and T hope the family enjoys Florida. Keep me updated on the rebs and Wes if you got anything on the Vols certainly them too. God forbid we have another Clausen ruin my college years. "Phillips runs through, around, over, and underneath defenders from South Carolina takes the ball all the way home for a miraculous touchdown."
  5. This mainly goes out to the WillCo fans, esp the Rebel fans. How is Franklin looking this year, what's going on with the QB position, WR's etc? I expect T Flatt to have a little knowledge on this, probably Wes too...Sadly I've become a victim of college life at UT with little information coming to me about my hometown. I'm sure TJ will have everyone ready and of course after our last 2 seasons the support will be there. I played with these guys 2 years ago, but it's hard to tell where TJ has made moves, who has developed etc. Derrian is a stud and the coaching is always top notch. Let me hear about the rest of the area as well. By the way T, my Huskers are gonna rock you Sooner's world on Nov. 13th IN Norman too...It's gonna be too bad when the MCO (Midwest Coast Offense) otherwise known as the "Our Quarterback is Finally a Quarterback and Not a Glorified Running Back" offense runs wild on you. Just kidding T but hopefully that will give you a clue who this is. And Always Remember... "It's Great To Be A Tennessee Vol"
  6. the best movie to watch as a team before a game is either remember the titans or rudy hands down. we (franklin) watched it before the brentwood game 2 years ago and went out and played one of the best games in our history, then before lincoln county this year and various other times. it puts you in the mood to play. If you wanna see how high school guys like us behave varsity blues is the way to go- it's really similar to stuff we talk about at practice and shows the fun side of the game. The program is a real good glimpse of what goes on in college programs and since 1% of football players go to play in college it is unique in that aspect.
  7. I cant believe nobody has mentioned Cole Rose as a Div. II canidate. He put up 26 points against Father Ryan, who is one of the best defensive teams in the state. Can I get some comments on him?
  8. This game should be a classic in my book. Brentwood knows how to get up for the big games and with a guy like Everson they are never far out of it. After playing against Everson you realize what a smart player he is. He doesn't make mistakes. he was 4-14 against us (Franklin) but he was still a threat. It seems Brentwood is being picked to win more and more. That being said I think that Riverdale will pull it out. They have home field advantage and they played on that turf. Belief me it is a whole new game on that stuff. I think Rankin will work that much harder so that he is not beaten by a former assistant. I'll be a classic and I'll probbly be there with some other Rebels. Prediction Riverdale 24- Brentwood 20 maybe with OT
  9. Like FHSTE84 i'm biased bc i played for him but he has to get mentioned. Franklin has always had talent but he molded us into a great team with his discipline. He is a great guy and loves the game of football. If I had to nominate some others from 5A I'd say Ron Crawford from Brentwood and a mention to Greg Gregory.
  10. Franklin's fans are always rowdy and really loud at the games. The refs catch heck for any bad calls and we will do anything to get into the other team's heads. Other teams get really intimidated by us and in the past it has worked. We'll have to see tonight when we play BGA. Here's betting we hold Cole Rose under 15 points bc we get in his head...
