  1. Well said T...it's hard to come across on here for me in the proper way. It takes a long time to type this stuff one finger at a time....lol. I think we could discuss whether some should have said CC gets BIG win or if CC wins BIG. To me they mean different things. That having been said I think Coach Floyd would have far rather played a 1-0 game than what we did. I personally would rather play and lose a 1-0 than win 19-0 this time of year. You learn more from it. No one wants this district to have weak teams in it. None of the other teams benefits from it. Wilson....some were saying that. Some were saying that WMD's were in Iraq too....but the facts are we did not score a run on Soddy and they have their same pitcher back. It's hard to win when you don't score. Until we beat them I don't figure we can bragg much....although I would say that scoring as many points as we have lately would point to what was worked on in the off season.
  2. I gotta call you on the tacky part here Joe...no one is prouder of these girls than Lucky is. Lucky is simply reporting information. Like Dizzy Dean said...it's not bragging if you done it...it's fact. There is nothing to keep you from doing the same with your teams. As for the other post talking about some teams having better "athletes" that is laughable. That is almost like you are saying that the genetics in Coffee County are better suited to softball than some of the other teams. It is not "athletes" but the work that has been put into those athletes by themselves, their parents, and the coaches. I figure you guys are wanting to stir stuff so I will let this drop but our girls think so much of Lucky and the work he does on the radio that I couldn't let that pass. I don't know how we will stack up on down the road but I know these young ladies have worked hard...and that deserves respect. They have some physical ability...but they are putting it to use by working on their skills during the off season and when TSSAA allows them to work. Apparently others think so as well because it looks like several of our seniors have earned the opportunity to play after high school. I don't know how good these ladies will do by the end of the season...but I do know it will be a direct relation to how much work they have put in. I think they deserve a little respect for that. I think anyone except someone that expects things to be given to them would agree.
  3. Middle School had a game that was scheduled. The field was very marginal with several mud holes in playing areas. I have caught fish out of less water than the bull pens had in them at 3:30. The middle school coach made the right call in not playing under those conditions due to the mess and the possibility of injury, in my opinion. After they made the decision not to play, Terry made some calls to see if we could pull together the resources to make the field playable. The high school booster club payed to bring in a large amount of quick dry, plus pulled together enough labor to work the field by hand, using leaf blowers and rakes to work the field into playing conditions over several hours. It is a testament to the working relationship of the parents and coaches to pull this off. I have said it before and will say it again. CC has some of the best parents around anywhere. We don't always agree but when it is something for the girls everyone pitches in. Many people don't know...and I didn't know when my daughter was in middle school exactly what the situation was about the high school field and facilities at Coffee County. I just assumed the county built it for all the kids in the county to play on. Actually, it was built by fundraisers and donated parent labor just like the Westwood field. Among other things parents and coaches worked grueling shifts at Titans ball games to pay for the field, improvements and the hitting center and we continue to pay for it and will be for several years. Even though that is the case, to Terry's credit, he told me when this first started being discussed that he had committed the field to the Middle School for their game and he was not going to go back on that. He said he would not try to persuade them one way or the other but once they released the field by canceling their game the parents and coaches of the Big Red Machine swung into action and Got er done. Great job guys. JV
  4. Good posts about this and I don't speak for Terry but even though the score didn't show it he was not sending runners on past balls or taking 2 bases on a hit to run up the score. There were several errors on the FC side that are probably due to kids not having as much "saddle time" playing in the off season. That's just what it looked like to me. In travel ball we have played teams that blew us out only to beat them later in a tournament. FC has a lot of ball left to play this year and I think they will be fine. They have some very talented players. You are also correct about the JV team playing before. Terry does a good job of getting the JV girls playing time that they would not get at a lot of other schools. I have been told that several top teams don't keep as many kids or have a JV because it takes away from time their starters could be working, or working on homework instead of watching a JV game. I think it is a credit to the program that they take time to do this and I am glad they do. As far as a limited number of at bats this season due to weather...correct again. Before this game our leadoff batter only had 18 at bats this season....and by the way...our JV lead off had 16. Injuries....we had a couple of girls get "hit by pitch" the last ouple of games. Nothing intentional I don't think and I don't think it was anything major.
  5. Hurry up and heal up...we missed you tonight.
  6. Same from Coffee County. With everything else going on I had not heard about it. I hope she makes a speedy recovery.
  7. I think anyone that expects Coffee County to have a cake walk through this district is misinformed. This is a tough district. Pick any of these district teams and then look back at their schedule last year and see how they did against out of district teams. Lawrence County was put out of the hunt by the eventual state champion Ooltewah. CC was put out by the always strong Soddy Daisy. Shelbyville beat Columbia twice...Columbia beat CC twice. It was pretty well knotted up early with everyone chasing Tullahoma....who was 11-2 in the district. Lincoln County was young and will be better. Franklin County could make a run at things because they have been doing a lot of work. This is one CC guy that is not crowing too early. The top two teams to move on could be playing close to .500 ball in district play this year. At that point anything can happen. Remember when I posted this back in one of the other threads? This could be a very interesting District this year. If you don't bring your "A" game you will get beat. It happened to us last night. We didn't perform. Lincoln County did a good job and deserved to win it. Good luck to all the District 8 teams at tournaments this week.
  8. If I am not mistaken Soddy still has the young lady that that shut us (Coffee County) down with that wicked curveball the last game of our season last year. I hate to question the wisdom of the great Mr.NoItAll but I think you missed them if you think Soddy won't be a factor in this. Coffee County has a good team but I figure we will be limited by having to be back in Manchester to feed the chickens and goats so early that we won't do well at the out of town tournaments. I figure we will be tired and ready to come home by 2PM on Saturday. A lot of these kids have to get up and milk the cows before church on Sunday so they can't stay out late unless it is to make a run to Taco Bell or Walmart around midnight for forks and toilet paper. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  9. I think he was talking about the previous thread about the drug testing. So far as I know the only real controversy we have going on right now at Coffee County is the very real problem of snow blindness in cats. It is a very real problem that faces more and more cats each year. This problem was first brought to the national scene by famous NASCAR driver Ricky Bobby and continues to be completely ignored by our government. There may be something else going on...but they don't tell me much. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  10. Lucky, Not that it matters but I had the Hendersonville game as 3-0. I am pretty sure I am right because Terry remarked that none of our 3 pitchers gave up a run.... We saw 3 good teams. Ravenwood has a good team...and our girls played well. A few bugs to work out but not bad. Hendersonville is a good team and I understand Brentwood is young...but the rematch with Ravenwood at Coffee County this year should be a well attended game. I thought the young lady pitching for Ravenwood was very impressive...loads of movement. Good luck to all this weekend. Be safe and be careful traveling. JV
  11. Please also pass along our best to the family and to Kayla. Accidents happen. It is part of the game. Don't let an accident change your game. I have known some siblings it wouldn't bother at all, and some it would devastate. We hope the best for all.
  12. I think I can speak for all the Coffee County players, coaches and parents.... we hope Lauren has a speedy recovery. Please post updates and let us know how she is doing.
  13. I didn't know they had picked up Lawson and Patterson from Heritage. The Patterson kid is the one I couldn't place but now it make sense. I only saw her from a distance and didn't know who she was. She has a ton of talent as a pitcher, just needs to refine it some. Who is the head coach on that team? I know the guy that used to coach them left a couple of years ago. Chris Edwards is the head coach.
  14. Connell always runs a good program. I don't know all of those girls but the ones I know are good players. It has been a while since we played them but years ago they were good and I have no reason to believe that has changed. I can hear Michael saying what he was quoted as saying, that they will show up and play....they will be good. I am glad that we have good competition here in the state...as I stated in the school ball thread because to me it is not as much about Falcons against Worth or who ever as it is all of us getting kids ready to play so these state schools don't have to spend so much of our tax dollars on kids from California. I hope Cat Hossfield sets records at Tennessee and I hope Caralisa Connell makes Louisville a national contender...why wouldn't we all? All this is just guessing and bull anyway. We have some fast kids that play for us. Can they hit, catch and play defense? We will see. Pitchers? We have a couple that can throw pretty hard. Will they throw that in a game? Not much...because we don't throw many fast balls. A fastball is the easiest pitch to hit. Frost Falcons fall on their face??? I totally agree. We will. All our kids are taught to slide head first. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Good luck everybody. Let's all meet up somewhere and we can have a group hug. /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />
  15. Give us something to go on 5-sport...give us some names, schools and positions they play so we can take a look during the upcoming season.
  16. You are correct MrNo.....conditioning...not practice. As they should the coaches do all that TSSAA allows but do not violate the rules. I catch myself transposing the words sometimes as well out of habit. It is an easy mistake to make. Practice began at 12:04 AM this morning and finished up at 1:30 AM in our Midnight madness. At least it was a lot warmer this year than it was last year. Good luck to all the teams across the state and we hope they all stay injury free and play up the best of all the girls potentials. My great hope is that we all come to understand that while we may compete against Tullahoma, Shelbyville, Coffee County, Riverdale, etc., etc., our real competition for any girl that wants to play after high school is, for example, California. Take one look at the rosters of these bigger state schools that we all support with our tax dollars and look at how many out of state kids are on those rosters that we are sending to school. I understand why they do it, and I don't blame them for getting the best players they can get but our job as parents and coaches is to do what we can to get these kids ready to compete for those scolarships. This may sound crazy but I personally hope (and expect) we will get our butts beat in some of these district games. If we do that means the district is stronger, and kids at these other schools have been working. That is a good thing for everyone. Maybe we get so good coaches from other states are coming here to recruit....hey it could happen. Good luck to everyone and be safe.
  17. The winner didn't.... /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  18. I don't post much on the basketball side because frankly I don't know much about it. I do know that it takes a lot of work to be successful. On the free downloads page on WMSR's web site, Pedo has an interview with Coach Rick Insell of MTSU. In that inteview Coach Insell states that while he was at Shelbyville he wanted his girls to HIT, CHART and DOCUMENT 30,000 three point shots from March to October. My redneck math makes that 134 three point shots every single day. If you take 2 days off you can make it if you do 187 for 5 days a week every single week. Congratulations and good luck to both teams the rest of the year...and if you want to know what it takes to be good, hitting 134 three point shots every single day...is a start.
  19. I think anyone that expects Coffee County to have a cake walk through this district is misinformed. This is a tough district. Pick any of these district teams and then look back at their schedule last year and see how they did against out of district teams. I'm just begging you guys not to pick Coffee County for senior night again this year. It's embarrassing for a grown man to cry like I did last year. I have a reputation to uphold.
  20. Keep an eye on the Frost Falcons 16 U team. They struggled with injuries last year and still played good ball. They had 4 key players that were injured during school ball or just after it including the 2 main pitchers. This fall, the Falcons won the PFX tournament with wins over the Thunderbolts, Knoxville Thunder 92, Fury 94, Hurricanes and the Mustangs . They have 6 left handed bats, 6 kids that run sub 3.0 time to first, and least 2 pitchers throwing 60 plus. Good luck to all Tennessee teams in their pursuit of ASA success.
  21. CoachJV

    Speed

Juli Layne bats from the left side and is close to the same speed as Cheyenne. She is a freshmen and plays mostly outfield. They have not raced that I know of lately but they have always been close in speed. Chelsea Howell is a freshmen catcher that bats mostly right handed but does slap and hit some from the left. She ran a 2.8 I think at the UTC camp. It will be tough for the freshmen to beat out the seniors on the team this year but I am sure Coach Floyd feels great about the depth in case of injury or even if someone needs a day off. All these kids can play from the seniors through the freshmen. Several of the seniors are very fast as well as far as defensive play but bat right handed so their numbers don't show up as well. Shelby Davis, the senior catcher batted lead off last year and is as quick as a cat behind the plate. I don't know all the details but I am sure we will see her in a college uniform next year.
  22. Same here....all I can say is that anyone crazy enough to go to Indianapolis in February, play at 4:00 AM when it is 2 degrees and a foot of snow on the ground deserves to be successful. Good luck and good wishes to all our snow bunnies. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  23. Nursecass, Good luck to the Goodpasture girls from us old friends down here in Coffee County. They have big shoes to fill but I have no doubt they will do well. I still remember the girls being fussed at by Kim Dunlap back in the day. It seems like a long time ago now but maybe it is just a lot of miles since then.
  24. No...no JV games are included in those numbers. Only TSSAA sanctioned varsity games. No pre-season. No scrimmage. No JV. Strength of teams we faced? I would bet on Thomas on that one too. I totally agree. We didn't face weak teams but the teams around Chattanooga are pretty strong /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> As my DD says...Duh. Again, look back at the original context of the quote. I didn't mean to say the "staff" was #2 in the state..just merely to say in my opinion they weren't 306th.
