  1. In the last couple of years, there are three teams in region 3-4A who have tried to spread the field and "open up" the running game by balancing their offense to more of a 50%/50% run/pass ratio. Those teams are south-doyle, lenior city, and clinton. Which one of those do you think Halls should try to and copy? Central, Halls, West, Powell, and even Maryville are much closer to a 70%/30% run/pass ratio.
  2. supposedly there will be a passing "scrimmage" in July with Catholic and Rockwood, but I think Coach Shepherd put a stop to Halls and the passing leagues very soon after he came in and it's just stayed that way.
  3. from what I can gather, the Devils are still missing their leading RB, QB, WR, and DB candidates out in track, soccer, and baseball. congrats to the baseball team, it looks like another district championship is on the way.
  4. I agree with haveityourway. Michael Jordan used to work out on game days, and it didn't seem to effect him too much. On top of that, there was nothing said about a "lighter weight". I'm sure that Coach Julian knows that you don't have to do massive amounts of weight all the time to get a good work out.
  5. I can't speak for Coach Julian, but I don't imagine that there are many successful coaches out there who would not let a kid back on the team if there is a sincere change of heart. As to the comments about lifting...since when do the kids tell the coaches what he/she will or won't do on a particular day regardless of the reasons?
  6. the school system will allow some transferes if a parent works at a certain school or if a school offers courses that a student wants to take that are not offered in their zone, etc...
  7. I couldn't coach a cat how to use a litter box, much less a football team. Just an old alum that keeps up with the program.
  8. that group and the year after them went 7-1 as freshmen and jv both.
  9. Not to speak for HTV, but, it is technically possible to transfere to those schools. There just has to be some extinuating circumstances.
  10. It's more of a way that the school board can disguise what's going on with the rezoning of west knoxville. the west knox parents would panic if the Board only took kids from farragut, bearden, and karns to fill the new school. So, they can rezone west knoxville, and still say, "look at what's happening to the rest of county"
  11. Turner played QB for the freshman and jv squads the last two years respectively. Both seasons they went 7-1.
  12. Halls beat south-doyle by 3 or 4 TD's last year in a game where the rain kept their biggest playmaker from getting the ball. how is that playing close?
  13. I'd have to say any team is better off without a kid whose heart isn't in it. as for Halls, I seriously doubt that the Devils will win or lose any more or less games with or without cooper.
  14. I don't understand the problem. What coach wouldn't let a kid back on that quit and saw the error of his ways? If a kid quits, came back and appologized and had a sincere new attitude, what coach still say "NO!" I can't name one kid that Coach Julian has ever kicked off his teams, so if cooper is gone it is by his own choice. Sometimes kids are very selfish and don't understand that their actions effect the whole team.
  15. Congradulations to Coach McKamey and to Grace for a quality hire. Anyone have any info. on this team? other staff members, number of kids, region, etc...
  16. Actually, the last renovations to the building built in the '60s took place about 20yrs. ago. Halls is long overdue a new facility.
  17. Rumor has it that powell has lost some coaches for various reasons. Is there any truth to that? We need HTV to weigh in on the subject.
  18. Year in and year out (with a few exceptions) three out of the four 1st round playoff games between these two regions are won by 3-4A. How can you say region four is more competitive?
  19. I wouldn't get your hopes up for maryville moving up. they've always seemed to stay just a few students short of 5A for the last few realignments.
  20. clinton lost to both Halls freshman and JV.
  21. lenior city and clinton both run maryville's offense almost down to the letter. south-doyle runs a very similar one. are you sure it's the offense or the kids running it?
  22. Halls Freshman are 5-1 and the JV are 3-1 (with two cancellations by other schools) both teams still have lenior city and catholic to play.
  23. Halls JV won 14-0. Some of the kids said that the scoreboard was oddly changed to 7-6 panthers as soon as the game was over. I wonder what that was in reference too?
  24. you can talk about "opening it up" all you want, but the truth is, 9 out of 10 games, the team that runs the ball best will win. There are 3 teams in region 3-4A that run a predominantly spread offense and have a balanced run/pass ratio... south-doyle, clinton, and lenior city. Everyone else is more in the 70/30 range of run/pass.
