  1. What happened to the guy's back? Did he play travel in Bwood? How many more will quit? If Clarksville is out of it, will it be Roosview or Dickson? Somebody said they woudl be weak anyway.
  2. bigmon - I don't think you're quite right in your assessment of the football talent in Clarksville. The Clarksville schools were down a few years ago, but this year there were a couple of teams in the playoffs. Not that they did real well, but most of the schools are between 1000 and 1200 in 4A or 5A and compete in pretty tough regions. Come on. The reason athletes aren't attending Clarksville Academy has nothing to do with entrance exams or money. No offense, but if your body is warm and your dad is a doctor, you can get in. Maybe it's because they don't recruit athletes now. Or they do and they athletes go to Davidson Academy or the publics. Clarksville Academy is slowly dropping off. When was the last time they had a competitive team in anything: oops tennis, golf? Good luck with football because without major changes you won't play a schedule next year either.
  3. irishdad. I was there and didn't hear the students yelling profanities. I'm not saying they weren't, but I was across from the students and didn't hear it. Was the yelling while the Ryan 185/215 was crawling toward his bench? If so, which time? Can he only run/crawl to the right? Or was it when he flexed and pointed to the crowd? Or was it while the Ryan guy was slapping the CHS wrestler? Not sure which weight, but the Ryan guy was too good a wrestler for that. Maybe 135-145 with curly blond hair. Not sure. The Clarksville coaches would have stopped the profanity, and the Clarksville teachers in the stands would have stopped it too. Sorry that were you offended. Great match!
  4. Memphis is like any weekend soccer tournament. By the time the kids get to high school they should be playing in a stadium - with adequate facilities. Who's the actual school host for the boys' tournament in Memphis?
  5. vol gen - your post was nasty, uncalled for, and inappropriate. As he said, he stated facts. You are the one who seems to be whining all the time.
  6. Gerry - for somebody who says he wants to be a coach, you sure do have a lot of mouth. I was going to get on here and make some remark about Hillwood doing well cause they get so much practice fighting in school, but I won't. Why don't you make another bet with somebody? Maybe we'll be lucky and you'll lose this time.
  7. Houston has talent and coaching - and they peaked at the right time. After checking their roster, I wouldn't count them out next year. And I'm not from Germanopolis. Also, did the coach from Smyrna quit - again? Boys or girls or both?
  8. First, I'm sorry I wasn't real clear on the Cheek Park idea. The playing surface is great and the width is fine - and there is a rope which kind of helps. The problem at Cheek is with big games and postseason. The rope barely restrains the crowd and at times I, personally, have seen players have to work to get thru the crowd, especially from opposing teams. I don't think it would be a lot of fun to have to go under the rope and into a crowd to retrieve a ball. I know you said they have ball chasers, but I haven't seen them. Seating should be a consideration. Again, I'm unclear. Not complaining about the cost of a ticket. Complaining that an event of that importance in the post season should have adequate seating and facilities. 500 spectators = 100 seats??? Why should a school be allowed to host an event if they can't provide the basics. I thought TSSAA selected Chattanooga because it was the best venue. Oops I forgot they shortened the girls's season to allow for a UTC football game in that stadium. Finally, I meant Rossview. They should be embarrassed. Good idea: can they spell Title IX?
  9. I went to a regional match last night in Clarksville and the field was horrible. Someone said the reason the game was set for later was that they played a JV football game earlier that night on the same field. Are there any requirements for the host school? I go to Cheek Park in Franklin, pay $5 and can't get a seat. The park is almost next door to Franklin High's stadium which has plenty of seating. Also, players sometimes have to fight through the crowd to get to a ball to take a throw-in. I don't undertstand how a school can sell 300 tickets when there's only seating for 50-100 people. It would seem that it's time to start putting requirements on the host school.
  10. CW - nice try. I think your question was right on the money. The coach was to blame because the kid watched TV? I don't care whether you're male or female, mother, grandmother, etc. Your approach toward withdrawing you son from the team was arrogant, and the fact that you think it's OK just shows the change in parental attitude over the last 30 years. Whatever's best for me - is OK!
  11. Barb, "I could really care less what rules apply to athletes. My children need only worry about one rule... Mine...." Why did you come on and dump on some coach? Laz was right the first time. It's terrific that you had a high school sport to hold over your son's head were able to use that sport and the coach to turn out a successful son. It's too bad you couldn't have done something else than to deny your son and others the opportunity to work together. I'm sure he wasn't coming home and watching TV and playing video games until he started playing baseball!
  12. Barb - what do you think we have now? Rocket scientistst! Perhaps your predictions are correct, but those communities get what they demand. Rules, rules. We don't need a split at all. By the way, my compliments to you for your decision to remove your son. You saved everybody a lot of grief: your son, you, and probably especially the coach. It was really the best move in the long run. But what do you think you taught your son by pulling him from the team during the season? Good parenting? Athletics still have rules, just because they're not your rules. Where would you stop with your rule making? How about size requirements for football or basketball players? Nobody over 6 feet tall or 170 pounds? Must have a 3.0 GPA with at least 2 advanced placement classes each semester? Come on. I like CW's ideas of no rules better than that.
  13. Props to the football coaches at Cheatham. Finally got some guys with cohones willing to stand up. What about Sycamore and Harpeth football staffs? Aren't they in the same boat? The news has only talked about Cheatham - football.
  14. I think the point someone is asking about is this: My child plays ------ball this year at ?HS. At the end of the school year ?HS is designated a disaster by NCLB. I want my child to transfer to High Achiever High School across town which has not been declared a disaster by NCLB. Does my child get to participate next year or does she have to sit out a year?
  15. I think you asked questions an individual coach's contracts? Please repeat. Did the questions have anything to do with embezeler? Also, I can't get the Coaches Forum either?

    help!

Here's another plan. If your school has a football team or boys' soccer team, have one of your parents contact an attorney and ask that attorney to send a letter referring to compliance with Title IX. That should do it. Then you will definitely have no support from the school administration, but you will get a team.
  17. gameball - I enjoy your posts, and the general theme of your last shows insight because both Brentwood and Farragut have a bit of work cut out for them; however, not with the schools you name. BGA is in the private school division and CAK is A-AA.
  18. I've read the whole thing too. And I understand why cw said that. I've also read wc15's posts before which seem to have been supportive of Warren County. But if you go back and read your posts you will see why cw answered as he did. You really appear to be upset with your former coach and taking shots at him, for whatever reason. He's a good man with a big heart; maybe too big. He put up with a lot of junk for years from guys who thought they were owed something because they'd played soccer forever - forget that they weren't any good - after playing all those years. Or that other players were better. Those players (and probably their parents) thought the deserved something just because they'd played "fourteen years." Wrong!!! He kept players on the team that other coaches might have cut - and you know it. And some of those tried to make his life miserable. cw is just saying that a bunch of you are whining and making excuses. And you are!
  19. In the long run, Greene would be better off to get out of a bad situation. Except if he leaves because of this, will he get another coaching job?
  20. Thanks for letting us know yellowcard. After looking at your schedule, I see you've really improved. You beat Clarksville NW 11-0 and they're 0-5. McCallie's JV would drill your varsity.
  21. Yellowcard I believe someone already asked where you play. Obviously you can trash Cookeville, but you are so bad you don't want to admit where you play cause your program is so bad. We should nominate ccJV's team.
  22. Congratulations on all your championships. You obviously feel them to be very important. Winning in soccer does not necessarily mean you have the respect of your school mates, the school administration, or the community. All it means is that you've won three district championships, - in soccer. I believe many schools, like Smyrna, are working to have good facilities. And probably one day most schools will; however, winning alone won't get those facilities. Hard work off the field is needed too. Some schools have excellent facilities for track and field, and others don't. It's because somebody got the facilities built They worked for them. I didn't mean to upset anybody, I just meant that football has been around a long time and is a definite part of the American scene. Don't get bent out of shape because soccer is not as important to the majority of people.
  23. Friday night high school football in the fall is a part of our culture. That's why it's important and gets respect. Maybe if soccer is still around in 100 years, soccer will grow in popularity. Maybe when today's players are old enough to influence things or soccer is popular enough, schools will have equal or adequate facillies. If you want more, go out and earn it. Some schools already have great facilities - because people have worked for them.
  24. After hearing about the game and reading the Clarksville paper, it sounds like there were two different games. One in the paper and the other on this site. Everybody on here thinks Rossvue got robbed. If Clarksville is that bad, then how bad is Rossvue? I don't think anybody ever said the rankings are perfect. In fact if the posters had read their own paper they would see what the Clarksville coach said about rankings and how complimentary he was of his Rossvue. Deal with it! Rossvue got beat by a smaller, passive, less improved, over rated, young bunch of scared little babies. Maybe the reason Clarksville was not so aggressive was that they were shaking in their boots from fear of the big bad boys from Rossvue. ccjv05 I'm glad you told everybody what the red card was for. With your name you probably are a player; too bad cause with your attitude toward foul language and disrespect, you should be ashamed. Oh, and you want to ref to ignore rule breaking too?
  25. Thanks. From what I read in the last couple of posts Clarksville is small, young, over rated, and maybe a little skilled and Rossvue is big and aggressive with a better defense. But the score was 2-1 Clarksville?
