  1. Hey OS91, Are you from Cleveland? I have family that lives in Lyndhurst which is a Cleveland subarb on the west side. I have spent some summers in Cleveland and I am also a fan of the Indians (Although St. Louis is my favorite baseball team), Browns and Cavs. I used to listen to games on 1100 AM at night. My favorite all-time basketball player is Mark Price, I'll always have bad memories of "The Drive" and "The Fumble". I remember watching a preseason game in old Municipal Stadium. I was young at the time and it was only the second game I had attended in a big place like that. At the time, I didn't think it was a dump, but years later I realize that it was awful. Oh well, I think it's neat that there is another Cleveland fan out there.
  2. Hey OS91 and Tank, I think you guys have gone out of control. When Tank first asked about who was doing the paper I think he did so because he was interested im trying to land a job with them. I know that Tank lives in Middle Tennessee and wants to get back into sports media in East Tennessee, but right now there aren't any openings. I think his questioning was for personal gains. As far as can the paper make it with a few people. Yes it can as long as everyone is dedicated. Less people keeps expenses down. The people will have to bust their humps, but I have always believed that sports will sell itself. Heck I was making money with the Sports Report, but I was offered the job here at the Roane County News and couldn't pass it up. All I ever wanted to do was cover sports, not sell ads and run a business. I wish the people who are going to do this well and if I can help them out I will. A paper dedicated only to sports is a great idea. I know here at the paper I always gripe to the higher-ups about needing more space and you don't have that problem if you do it yourself. Oh well, good luck and I think Tank and OS91 have turned a misunderstanding into a possible WWF Pay-Per-View.
  3. One thing you cannot predict a week in advance is weather. A sloppy field definitely gives OS the advantage.

    Hey Swamp

Just give me a call at work sometime next week. EXT. 315
  5. By the way, I was at the OS game and they did get screwed at Sweetwater in the play-offs on the pass interference call. Heck, the head of officials even call OS and apologized. They also got some questionable calls in their hnome loss to the Wildcats or they might have been 10-2 heading into a rematch with Alcoa.
  6. Last year I picked OS to finish 2nd in the region and win games over L.City, Sweetwater (both times), Rockwood, Kingston. I guess my embarrassing pick last year was when I picked them over Alcoa. I basically picked them in all their close games last year and did pretty good. This year, I simply think they're a little young and that's why I guess I don't like them in close games. This year I picked them over L. City and won, Harriman and won, Alcoa and won, I picked them to lose to Smith County and won, Kingston and won. The only game that I have missed with the Bobcats has been the Rockwood game. If I had to guess right now I'd say Sweetwater-Loss, Sequoyah- Win, Wartburg-tossup, Round one-Win, Round two- Depends on match-up. I think OS is a very tough team, but I tend to pick the team with the most experience. [Edited by goosevol on 10-11-02 11:46A]
  7. Don't overlook Harriman. The Devils return everybody from last season and they split with Rockwood during the regular season. I wonder how Harriman will do without Coach Norris, that means as much as anything. I think Rockwood and Harriman both have a shot to make it to Murfreesboro.... not a guarantee, but a chance.

    Hey Swamp

Would you be intersted in covering some basketball this winter for the paper?
  9. Oh well, it was East Ridge that beat them and they responded with a big win this year. I remember last year that Boyd put up more than 300 yards offense, but they had plenty of bullets in their gun to shoot themselves in the foot. I still believe Boyd is better than last season while OS is not quite as good. Last year OS was 5-1 and 4-0 in games decided by 7 points or less. This year they are 4-2 and 1-1 in games decided by less than 7 points. Last season's team found ways to pull out the close wins. Friday night we'll know more about OS this year because it's going to be close. [Edited by goosevol on 10-10-02 9:14P]
  10. Swamp, I think A-9 is saying that Kingston will be one step away after Friday night not that they'll fall one step short when all is said and done. As far as L. City, they lost everything from last year. When you graduate 22 seniors and most of your starters, you're gonna drop the following year.
  11. I think Boyd is much better than last season and that's why I picked Boyd 21-17. Last year the Bucs lost to Rhea County 46-8 and this year they beat them soundly. Granted they aren't 70 points better, but probably a TD or so.
  12. Haven't talked with Coach Plemons yet, but I'd say that he'll stress the the same things that Coach Sitzlar does with the boys and that is tough defense. They return everybody from last year and could make some noise this season. Last season, they were a young team, but they showed glimpses of the future escpecially when they beat OS. Forward Steffany Pugh is their leading scorer. PG Lauren Gardner and SG Samantha Thearpe can hit the trey. Wing Sarah Cupp is the best athlete on the team and is a tenacious defender. She'll score a lot of easy baskets because of her defense and abilty to drive the lane. Sohomores posts Rachel Sitzlar and Brittany Cottrell will be good for the next three years. Cottrell is more of a scorer while Sitzlar is a better defender and shot blocker that could put up points if Cottrell or Pugh is in foul trouble. Another inside player is Amber Lunsford. She's not much of a scorer, but she is a good defender and great rebounder.
  13. I hope whoever gets this paper going has success. I'd love for people around East Tennessee to learn more about players such as Laura Hall and I know the folks from Roane County would like to know about other special athletes from the area that I cannot provide in the Roane Counbty News. This kind of paper would be ideal for people like me and many of us on CoachT who simply read the sports section anyway.
  14. No offense, but no one in Morgan County considers OS as being part of the county. And I'm sure that most of the folks from OS don't consider themselves as Morgan Countians. The football field isn't in Morgan County and neither is the school.
  15. If Oakdale can make the play-offs then I think it's without a doubt Michael Paul.
  16. Give me a call at work. Need to talk about Friday night.
  17. Whitney definitely played well in the 4A tourney last year and I think she'll be a scorer this year. Jeffers will also be a scorer. Blakeney will get easy baskets from her quickness. The Lady 'Dogs are in good shape this year.
  18. Not trying to burst your bubble, but I think it will be week 14 before the Highlanders are seriously threatened.
  19. I don't think Oakdale will beat hem that bad, but they might.

    Playoff Picture

Oliver Springs travels to Sweetwater in week eight with the winner claiming the region Championship.
  21. I think we will see about that! I said so far. Sweetwater will be the best come week 8.

    OS-30 ALCOA-0

Last year Region 2-AA swept Region 1-AA with Wartburg winning at Hampton and OS at South Greene.

    OS-30 ALCOA-0

I'll go with Wartburg over Alcoa, but I agree that Region 2-AA will sweep 1-AA.
  24. Didn't OS beat Boyd last year, 10-7.
  25. It stinks when you're really good and really far away from everybody.
