  1. At least I can find my way around JC. Bristol makes JC look like the greatest city in the world.
  2. I would like to let people know that DB is not all that is cracked up to be. They do not have the support of the school board or city. There are members of the board that resent athletics and try to cut funding all of the time. CLark and his staff do it on their own. We have to privately fund a fieldhouse. Even Sullivan Central and East have new fieldhouses and what have they ever won. Schools and communities in Georgia would laugh at the moaning and groaning that goes on over athletic funding in TN.
  3. The best player I have seen at DB is Fred Powell. His last year he single handlely won the game against an awesome Oak Ridge team. Their fans will always say that the refs beat them (they made some gutsy calls). The coaching staff has told me that none of them thought that we had a chance but the one person that did was Powell. 180 something yards and double digit tackles. (I had a 30 yd run on a fake punt to set up the winning score.) DB fans will argue Adonis, Lamon, or whoever else, but Powell is the best player I played with or against.
  4. Josh Cain he's a Stud, played against him the last few years at GSU. [Edited by DBIndian99 on 3-13-03 3:44P]
  5. I hope that I didn't sound like I was lecturing. I just have a problem with players that get on messageboards for some reason. Sorry. Want to let you know that I am pulling for you guys harder than anyone.
  6. Some advice for you players is to stay off the message boards because you don't want to add any fuel to the fire. Especially to say that you feel good about your draw. Say something like you look forward to the opportunity of playing the #1 team in the state or something like that.
  7. Sorry Art, but Knoxville might be one of the worst places that I have ever been to in my life. I love UT and all of that, but whoever designed KNoxville was not smart. Bristol might be the only place that is worse. Anyway, go DB, guys like me are pulling harder for you than anyone since I was one game away from the state twice.
  8. No, as long as I have been here we have used the backside slot on the LB. I play slot. Teams like Furman that run a 4-3 with an eagle LB is why we bring the slot around. we changed it some this year, because we used to bring the backside slot around and fold the playside slot in for the MIKE or OLB. The slots would change who they went for. Like I said, it depends on who we play for how we block it. Another option that was successful for us was running the twirl option out of trips. We would brings the trips slot in motion and twirl him back out for the pitch. This is how we gashed FUrman this year because we could block their support player with the slot and block the FS with the tackle. Good play that is hard to stop.
  9. From 96-99, we never played anybody that ran the triple and read it. People would fake the dive and pitch or keep, or give it automatically. It is hard to find a QB at this level who can run the triple effectively. Another thing that is overlooked is finding a FB that will be willing to get blown up every play, with or without the football
  10. Why don't they do the same thing that football does. Keep teams froms regions 1-4 in one side of the bracket and 5-8 in the other. If teams from the same region make it, put them seperate games in the final 8 games. Like this in 3A: Greeneville (Region 1) vs. Bradley (Region 3) DB (1) vs. Columbia (4) Hamilton (8) vs. Gallatin (5) White Station (8) vs. Hendersonville (5) I don't think this is confusing. It's like the football brackets. It's a system, not a blind draw
  11. Furman puts on one of the best in the country.
  12. All of Kingsport and everyone else is pulling for you. It's hard to believe the 2nd winningest program in the nation hasn't won a state since 1945. Even with all of the studs that Buck and Shipley had we never won one. Such a shame
  13. I have no idea what the Spartans have this year, but I have played against and saw them play in the past. I remember going into soph year we scrimmaged Robert O'Kelley and his crew at UT camp. If you ever wanted to see a beating, that was. They were up by thirty at the half and we played their 3rd team tough in the 2nd half and only lost by 29. Anyway, for you naive DB fans that think there is no way that we are going to lose, I'm sure that we have our hands full. I hope that I am wrong, but I doubt it. I will be there, fresh from Georgia on my spring break.
  14. Exactly, no one that I know has ever won a game on paper, unless you play in the a-10 against St. Bonaventure.
  15. I think of veer by the way the tackle blocks. We call it a veer block if he goes inside the DE and an outside release if he goes out for the MLB to Backside Safety. When I played at DB, Jeff County and Science Hill ran the veer out of split backs. They did not read it though, that's why I said I do not think that it is the triple. As far as how we block the midline, we have 4 or 5 different ways that we run it. Most of the time, we do bring the backside slot around to lead up on the Playside LB or Mike. We didn't vs. WKU because of the way they lined up. Against 4-3 teams we lead on the LBs most of the time. We have alot of different ways to block fronts and that is just one of the schemes.
  16. They were still strong down low. If Wooten had played the whole game it would have been a different story. That's the only game that I saw this year and Morrison must have definitely matured because he got tossed around like a little school girl in that game.
  17. I am suprised that Maryville lost the game in the post as people have posted. I thought they had a great inside game when I saw them play DB. Even though Humphrey lit us up, the Rebels' inside game is what killed us. We never allowed Greeneville to beat us inside so I am suprised they (Rebels)couldn't stop Malone and the others.
  18. You got your years off. 98 was when Bunn got hurt, but everytime that we thought we put the game away Jeremy Watson would make an incredible play to keep it close. I didn't return a kickoff for a TD, it was a punt. BUt, I'm flattered that someone would remember.
  19. That's pretty impressive to say the least. I was disappointed that we never played Riverdale from 96-98. in 97 & 98 we were one game away from playing them. We lost in the 3rd round in 97 and they did the same in 98. We would have played in the semis both years.
  20. It's going to be tough. White Station is always incredible and I'm sure that they will continue to be good. However, for the people that get caught up in the national rankings and of that stuff, that doesn't mean they are the 7th (or whatever their ranking) best team in the country. I am definitely not taking anything away from them, but some people get caught up in the ranking junk. [Edited by DBIndian99 on 3-11-03 1:11P]
  21. Your years or off by one (1998, 2000, 2002 were the ones that made it to the semis). You are right that we should have been playing you guys every year. the run that you guys are on in B-Ball right now is great. I saw you guys play in the Arby's and I won't say that you would beat DB or JC this year, but you would have come pretty close. Redd and the Miller kid are awesome. (i think that is his name). I was just p'od when I played that we never got a chance to play you guys to show who the best was in NET from 96-98. Here's a good joke: North beat our JV team this year and the next day, their principal called CLark to see if he wanted to play them this year. Clark said no problem since for some reason they think they have the best program in NET. That should be a blood-letting.
  22. I'm pretty sure that it is Riverdale. The thought hit me and I wanted to know where DB stood as far as this goes. 1996: 11-1 1997: 11-2 1998: 13-1 1999: 9-3 2000: 12-2 2001: 10-1 2002: 11-3 that's 77-13. Not bad with 3 semi's appearences and 6 out of 7 region titles. Still need to win a state title though [Edited by DBIndian99 on 3-11-03 11:34A]
  23. I play for the most electric triple option school in the country (Georgia Southern) and have a good knowledge of what it takes to run the triple (trying to give myself some credibility, I hope that didn't sound like I was tooting my own horn). I'm going to get into coaching. (Anyone need a coach?) I would be willing to send any info I have on our offense to people if they are interested or of they have any questions, just post them and I'll try to answer anything about the double slot (spread, as we call it in Statesboro) offense.
