  1. I doubt very seriously that they would not want DB fans at the game. The more people that show up, the more money they make. Granted the state will take money, but the administration down there(and everywhere) is worried about making a big gate.
  2. I just hope that we can win so I can see the semifinal game. I haven't seen a DB game since the 99 playoff loss the OR. Last year, I was going to be able to see the semis on Thanksgiving Weekend, but the Cats ended that. If there was any way that I could be there for this one, I would. But it is a even year, so we should get to play the semis (1998, 2000, 2002). Even though this is a great team, I've heard from some people that it couldn't hang with the 98 team. I tend to agree, but I'm biased toward my 98 team.
  3. I'm waiting for us and the Rebs to start playing during the season. We need to because seeing you guys later in the year prepares us for the playoffs unlike the "grueling" Region 1-5A schedule that we play every year.
  4. when I played from 96-98, Sevier Co was our biggest rivalry. I hated them and they hated us. We killed them in 96 when Matthews threw more INT than completions. 97, we beat them for the region and then they thrashed us in the playoffs. Killed them my senior year 41-0 and then in 2000 we were ranked 1-2 and it was a great game in which we won. They have slipped, but it was the only team that I played that I absolutely hated other than South, Johnson City, Bristol, and Jeff CO. Of course I hated everyone I played against, but the Purple Punks were the worst. OR-DB is the 2 most important games every year in East TN 5-A. OR never had any real punks or cheap shot guys on their teams. The guy I had the most fun competing with was Billy Shipley. The guy was a class act. I hope everything has worked out for him. Any info from OR fans would be cool.
  5. Sorry, but that is what message boards are for, to discuss rumors and other stuff. That's the point of them, my DB friends. Anyway, current players should never be on message boards anyway.
  6. your players have buy into what your doing and understand your MO. They cannot doubt you. They can dislike you, disrespect you, whatever, but if the players don't buy into what you are trying to do, you're sunk. I saw firsthand in college what happens when players start doubting the staff. It will turn a very talented and good team into crap in a hurry. There are many other things, I agree with Irish and RebelRon. But they have to believe in you.
  7. Word is that he is going to be back with the Tribe, granted he meets some conditions set forth by Coach Clark. Which is a good thing for him because one or two stupid mistakes should not screw this kids future up. Coach will probably take some grief on this, but I believe this is a good thing for Lamon. It doesn't matter if he's the best or the worst player on the team, if he keeps his nose clean, he should be allowed back. Hopefully, the players would want him back (since he bailed on them playoff time). I'm sure my Coach will do the right thing.
  8. no offense to hammontree, but he didn't stand a chance with Parkview, Brookwood, and the other Gwinnett Co. schools. It's insane how much money is pumped into FB at those places. In the Atlanta paper a couple of years ago there was an article on the booster clubs in the suburban Atlanta schoolsThe Parkview and Brookwood Football Boosters (no other sports) raised over $2 million each. Both schools have huge state-of-the-art jumbotrons, among other things. It was something to see how GA high school football is compared to our football.
  9. Speaking of Quarles and Furman, he and any other head coach would probably never leave for a college job unless it is big time (1-A) football. They make alot more money than college assistants at schools that are not SEC or ACC, and spend alot less time working. Places like CN, Furman, or MTSU only pay their assistants around 40k if that much, unless of course they are an O or D coordinator. One more thing, can anyone provide any info on what head coaches in TN and what supplements are? I live in GA and there are numerous head coaches making 100k a year. But, with that money, comes pressure and this year there were over 70 head coaching vacancies in GA.
  10. Any info on who replaced Zane Vance on the staff, since he took a job with Kent State. Did they promote in house or go find someone else? Once again I hear that this is supposed to be the year for us. And as a proud alum, I hope that it is possible. Anyway, any info will be good and remember the greatest and cockiest line ever quoted...... LOVED OR HATED, BUT NEVER IGNORED"

    5-A FOOTBALL

You're right. I got beat by Sullivan South my freshman year and my senior year, we beat them 35-0. Freshman scores mean nothing once they get to varsity
  12. Like I said on the other thread, I have great respect for OR. I enjoyed playing against you guys more than anyone because there was so much pride and tradition involved. I'm fortunate enough to be one of the very few who can say that they never lost to you guys in 5 games. The comments about the headsets and everything were meant to be joke (even though truue). I wasn't trying to talk trash. As far as my athletic career goes, I am very proud to say that my class (96-98) went 5-0 versus you guys. That is the ultimate respect. But you guys did beat the crap out of us our freshamn year in FB and B-Ball in the substate.
  13. Because you win. Nobody likes us, it is the ultimate respect. I have no problems with you guys.
  14. I was just trying to sound poetic.
  15. It is true. I'm not one to get one here and post crap. When I played against you guys it was the best. The players that started were the classiest and best players that we faced. The younger guys that played special teams were dirty (grabbing croutches, etc.). One guy that I always had a good time on the field with was Billy Shipley. Great player and even better competietor. One heckuva guy and so was Mike Adams. Like I said in an earlier post, I'm not here to bash OR. 2000 is a true story, I promise. Regardless, good luck to you guys because you and us are the class of TN in my opinion.
  16. I would much rather get beat in the regular season than get demolished at home in the playoffs as was the case in 2000. My brother started that year and he told me there was no way that they were going to lose to you guys again. I thought that it was bull that Lussier wouldn't play us during the season anymore. But, I think that we might be playing this year (not sure)
  17. I'm not hear to bash Oak Ridge, but they have a history of doing this. I believe that it had been a few years, but they have been known to do that before. It was the funniest thing ever to see 11 guys run to one side of the field chasing someone with out the ball.
  18. The Cats died in 2000 when we came down there and beat them 32-6 in the playoffs. "Superstud" Porter was mauled all night. The coaches were cheating and still couldn't keep it close. Adonis Johnson rushed for 280 yds (or something like that) and 4 tds. OR coaches were were listening to our headphone frequency and our coaches called a reverse on the headset and a fake reverse on the field. Every OR player flew to the reverse as Johnson raced 75 yds up the other sideline. NOthing against OR (I thought the most of the players were classy), but some of their coaches have some problems because the headset incident is not an isolated event. 19. We have three true rivals. Scince Hill because of location and the fact that they used to be good. The only games that I ever got nervous before was when we played them. Oak Ridge is our biggest rival because the playoffs always go through them. Always tough games against them and my class went 5-0 versus them from 96-98. Sevier County because they have been our only steady competition in the region throughout the years. I hated these purple boys more than anyone that I ever played against. Loud mouthed and dirty players. I had a sprained ankle my senior year and every time that we were in a pile they would twist it as hard as possible. BUt it didn't matter because we beat them 41-0 and I had 130 rusing and 2 tds. And finally, if Jeff Co is all they are supposed to be this year and down the road, maybe this series will turn into what everyone though it was going to be when they joined the region. 20. How can you throw a Bush quote about the war in on a discussion about HS football. I thought that you were a little above that JPat. Anyway, if you guys are going to beat us this is the year, but "I don't see it happening."
  21. Freshman football doesn't mean crap. My freshman year we played Upton and it was a close game. Our senior year it was a massacre when we played them. South beat us in freshman football that year and we beat them 35-0 my last year. every year since I was a freshman (8 years ago), I've heard that the present class of JEff County freshmen were going to return them to the days of the Collins. Haven't seen it happen yet.
  22. you're wrong about Butler. Dingus was much better than him and Mears did alot more with alot less talent around him this year.
  23. I don't see anyone knocking the tribe off anytime soon. Jeff County has got it together, but DB continues to reload every year. Either way, there is not enough competition in the region.

No way that Jeff COunty wins the region this year. YOu guys were supposed to rule the region when we went to 5 classes, but we have kicked your butt every year. Hope that continues to happen, but then again there is no way that you guys are going to continue to lose to us, is there?
  25. You've proved your point Opperman. I hate to see this turn into a SEC thread or whatever when it should be about two of the best teams in the state.
