  1. Over half of Cookeville's defensive starters were missing from action. As well as the wrecking ball RB Stevie Buckner who was playing soccer. There was some very young players on the field the whole day. As for the line...well...hopefully they can get better the more they practice together. Cookeville had only had like 2 days of practice before this game so not many people knew what they were doin let alone knew the plays. They will be OK by the time the season rolls around I think.
  2. Yea...that looks pretty good to me. Spots 2-7 are really up for grabs.

    Kevin Kennedy

No...he did not lose his job. He simply decided to leave for bigger and better opportunities. He is now in Kings Island, Georgia @ Camden County High School
  4. Franklin County @ Cookeville. Monday night @ 7.
  5. Umm...Mario...not the total package...lol. You must not have gotten a good look. He not only is a true leader and a scoring machine but he has extremely quick feet and can play as good of defense as the best of em. He also has unbelievable passing ability and great court vision. Of course he is from Cookeville and we all know they get no respect from anyone. So I can understand your disbelief of how good he really is.
  6. "Party Up" by DMX, that one makes me go insanely crazy in the head, lol, and "Hearts on Fire" from Rocky IV and "Bring Sally Up"
  7. Kegs post is correct....the starters were pulled the whole second quarter...the lead then went from about 18 to like 8 at halftime. I also saw something very uncharacteristic of the lady cavs...i think it was like 6 or 7 times the point guard or whoever ended up with the ball at the top of the key would try to force it into the high post with two people in front of her...those were followed by easy break aways that lead to the comeback. That was really strange to see from this ballclub. That was definately their worst passing game of the year. They better get their heads straight before tonight if they want to beat LA though.
  8. Yeah....everything that has been said so far is true. It is what and more importantly who that has been left out. Cookeville doesn't only have Reed. They have got one heck of a 2 guard named Ashley Taylor. Who when the last time the stats were posted for the UC was averaging the exact same number of points that was Reed and is up there in assists too as she leads Cookeville in that almost every game. Then they have got that super sophomore named Meredith Redus who had a career high against Blackman with 26. So that really gives them 3 ligit scorers. Erica McDonald will give her usual 5-10 points and 5-10 boards also. Then you move into the depth of Cookeville and, in truth, it ends right there. The girl from South Doyle may outscore everone in the contest but Cookeville just has too many talented players to lose this game. Plus it is in downtown Cookeville. lol. Like there is a downtown, but it is in Cookeville which will help out the Lady Cavs in their victory. I'll take them by 11 (65-54)
  9. I will comply to the demands of the warrior. No one in this city will diagree to the fact that Cara Reed has made Cookeville a much improved team over last year and has also greatly contributed to helping them win most of their games. There is just one thing that I am not 100% sure would happen. If she does not transfer then Coach O has to prepare the team a completely different way then she did with Reed. To say that they would be 3rd or 4th can't be determined. You would have to go and play the whole season all over again to find that out. Andif you did that then with all the different ups and downs and injuries and home cooking and what not....maybe someone like Warren County would be district champs. You just can't predict things like that. Anyways...let's just get ready for what looks to be a fun and exciting tournament comming up.

Well, I played on a 15 yr old traveling team last year and we played the Wilson Sox several times. I know they were in the world series at Gallatin last summer. Do you know if he played with them?
  11. I'm not sure I have heard anything about this mentioned so I thought I would do the honors. I just wanted to send a shout out to the whole Cookeville Lady Cavs basketball team. You girls have worked hard all year and your reward is something that no other Cookeville team has ever done. And that is win the first out-right regular season district crown in school history. That is awesome and you all deserve it so much. I really hope to see this team go as far as they are capable of. Which in this man's opinion is REALLY far. Good luck the rest of the way. 14. CRC29 I live 100 miles east of Nashville and but I played on team called the Nashville Thunder a couple of years ago and we went to a couple of world series together and from what I remember there were quite a few guys from John Overton on that team. The ones I remember are Allen Bolden(dad was the coach of the team), Stephen Suter, Trey Morrison(dad was one of the coaches at the high school), Mark Davis, and Marcos Macadoo(he is a junior though but one of the best short stops I have ever seen play baseball at this level)..we actually played at J O field for home games....the team broke up after we were 14.....I now play on a team out of Mt. Juliet and still see some of the guys on occation at tournaments and what not...I remember most of the ones above played in the world series in Gallatin last summer and I got to talk to a bunch of them then....my team won the world series though....ha ha...if you have any information on how they are doing I would be really interested to find out. thanks alot [Edited by dog11 on 2-11-03 11:05A] [Edited by dog11 on 2-11-03 11:07A]
  15. Yeah...definately agree about Adam Militana from Cookeville. He had a break out year last year as a junior and will carry the offense this year without Martin and Cobb. He is improving by the day behind the dish and has an arm that rivals most. I know... he has bruised my hand on several occations from the plate to the mound. A word of caution to anyone who ever has to pitch to him, never cross him up or you will find the ball stuck up your ######. No, he won't really do that but don't make him mad either. I don't know his time to second but it is very fast. He looks to be headed to Belmont in Nashville if no one else surprises him. As a pitcher myself I can definitely say that he is someone that you want back there when the game is on the line. Adam also runs his pitching staff with exceptional class and is a team player as well as a true leader on and off the field. 16. Ballinboy You are either thinking of Dan Curry(blonde hair) or Matt Hill(brown hair) from Cookeville. They both play post, both shoot, both dribble alot, and are bout the same dimensions so it is tough to say which one you are talking about. The hair thing is all I could think of to determine the one you are thinking of. Hope it helps.
  17. For the next 2 years Cookeville will finally have a passing/scrambling QB. My boy John Ledford ain't the biggest guy out there but he sure might be one of the toughest. He won't intimidate you when you see him either. But you might only be seeing his back when he gets out of the pocket. He runs around a 4.7 flat and has great game speed. He also has a cannon attached to his right arm. He will also be playing CB on defense this year so he is definately versatile enough to get the job done. He probably won't get any respect and will be underrated his entire career just because he is from Cookeville, and we all know that everyone hates Cookeville, and for the sure reason that he ain't no Carson Palmer look alike or a Mick Vick type runner but I promise you that he will definitely turn some heads when it's through. So Region 3-5A, you guys as well as the rest of the state better keep an eye on Cookeville because now they have got balanced offense capabilities along with Buckner at TB. Go get em J-money !! GO CAVS
  18. I know the tournament is being held at Cookeville and starts on Monday but don't know the game lineup
  19. Yep....Yep.....Yep........that is one great thing about Cookeville...........it is the fact that we DO have Taylor and Reed and the fact that we have beaten White Co. twice and Riverdale once, the second time remains to be seen. As for the game....it will definately be close at least until the 4th....The past few games Cookeville has ralied from behind in the 3rd to put up double digit wins. Horton will probably play better than she did in C-town but whiether anybody wants to help her score will have to be determined. Taylor and Reed will undoubtedly lead Cookeville with timely contributions from Redus and McDonald. Watch for the game to either be a down to the wire game or a strong 4th quarter from the Lady Cavs and a double digit win. It won't be near as easy as it was last time but I think Cookeville will pull it out by 6 (47-41). Just checked the stats through Feb. 4th.....Reed is avg. 16.3 and Taylor is avg. 15.8 [Edited by dog11 on 2-7-03 10:05A]
  20. Well, I'm not going to completely disagree with you.....well....on the other hand yes I am. Last year Cookeville sent 5 of the 7 seniors they had on to play college ball and one of the other two went on a basketball scholarship. The year before last we sent 4 to college to play baseball. This year you're looking at about 4,5, or 6 more that will go on to play college ball. In the past the coaches have brought a relaxed go out there and see if we can make it through the game kind of attitude. Last year and this year the coaches have brought an extreme amount of intensity to the program and in my opinion have really turned it around. I don't know where you are from or who you are and I don't really care because you obviously don't have a clue about Cookeville baseball and it would be appreciated if you would take you're pethetic little ###### elsewhere to gripe about people you do not even know.
  21. There is a sophomore down at Bradley Central named Wes Suiter. I have seen him play a couple of times and heard that he played great in that win over Cleveland. He starts and is a good size 2 guard at 6'3" and a great shooter. Will be just another great player to come through at Bradley Central.
  22. I watched Jim and the rest of the Cookeville O-line just run over people this whole year. It is really great to see someone from Cookeville continue their career and go to a good football school and it's great for him that it is right down the street from CHS. Does he know if he will get playing time as a fresman? [Edited by dog11 on 2-4-03 5:45P]
  23. Here is to everyone who wants to know why Coach Kennedy left. Last summer as soon as I heard the rumor of Kennedy leaving I went to him and confronted him about the present situation. He told me straight up. He said that the money down there was going to be at least twice as much as he made here. He described the school for me also. It had three different practice fields and a playing field. They also had their own grounds crew. He was going to get to have six assistant coaches. The school is also the only high school in a county of about 60,000. It is also something like five minutes from the beach. Sounds like a retirement job. However, he also expressed feelings about progressing in the coaching ranks and to one day make it to the big time. He felt that comming to Cookeville and putting up a great year with a struggling program was the first step towards his goal. After the season he got a call from the school in Georgia and they just offered him too much to resist. He felt like this was his next step. I asked him who our coach was going to be and he said that he got to recomend three people for the job and those would be the main ones considered. I'm not sure if Coach Hunt was one of them or not. Mr. Shanks won't disclose that. But Coach Hunt brings many of the same priciples and approaches to the game that Kennedy did, so the transition in learning the game has not changed that much. Personally I think Coach Hunt promises to be someone who will stay through thick and thin and if he is true to his word will stay the course no matter what stands in the way. Hopefully he will lead us to a great season.
  24. That is very true. Mario might be on fire the whole game but there is going to have to be someone else to step up tonight. If Cookeville can get 4 guys in double figures like at Warren County then it will be very close. Otherwise like keg said, it could be a long night. Oakland has 4 potent scorers and any one of them can put up 20+ in any game. Cookeville's student section will definately show up and may cause a close game early but I think Oakland is just too deep and talented for them to handle. But who knows we may see an upset yet.
  25. layup, What is wrong with you? Are you even a sports fan or are you to ignorrant to admit when you're wrong? Are you really trying to say that because he didn't completely dominate the game that he is not what he is cracked out to be. I promise you that come the end of the year you will only be able to point out 5 games in which Mario did not put out an extrordinary performance. This is obviously the first and only time that you have ever seen him play. You seem to be the kind of person that sits back in the stands or on the bench and makes inaccurate judgements of people you know nothing about because you heard they were great. You force yourself to play it off because you do not want to admit the fact that just because he plays on your rivals team and no one on your team can match him skill for skill that he must be just a myth or something like that. You say to yourself, I saw this so called great Mario play once and he did nothing at all that would lead me to believe that he was worth a dime. Well my friend, in truth and logic you are nothing but WRONG. It is absolutely inethical to form an opinion of someone based on 1 lone perfromance and to hold that against them. What kind of person would do that injustice to another? You give the man and his team NO credit at all. He had a low scoring game and you are seemingly going to hold that against him and say that's all he is capable of doing. You do not know how deep your accusations drive into the heart and soul of some people. It is really indescribable to try and explain how much Mario has done for Cookeville High School in words. You really need to reconsider your thoughts about bashing him in the future because of this one game that you saw him play. He has put out way too many great games to be held to this one that does not meet your standards.
