  1. Congratulations Gordonsville! Nice win!
  2. Whoa... easy folks... it was just an assesment on the comment "I wouldn't take Gordonsville litely" and based on last night seems pretty much on target. You're right... Gordonsville came to play (hats off to them) and BBS did not. Gordonsville did play and did win... and they are still playing today. I would really like to see them go far. I just don't think they will and that is an opinion. That is what this board is for. Folks who do not know anything about the teams being able to get information from folks who were there. Ummm and the way the Gordonsville coach did his line up worked and generated enough runs in the non blown innings to be the difference in the game. I was just pointing out 4 hitters above .300 on the year verses 8 in the lineup hitting over .300 on the year for BBS. Thank you for helping make my point with this: "If your defense "gives" baserunners and infield hits, and regularly overruns bunts, your defense isn't that good." On this give day the defense was not very good in this given inning. No bitterness as I have no one playing. Just disappointed for BBS as I feel like they could have made some noise. TN needs to adopt the 3 game series like GA has then one bad day or one bad inning does not put a team out. This would make only district champions get to move on. Of course the TSSAA is all about money so the more teams playing the more cash to make. Sadly there was pleanty of classlessness to go around. It seems everyone feels entitled these days to yell anything. I would like to say it is just kids being kids but some were adults.
  3. I would love for Gordonsville to make some noise... it might take the sting away a little for BBS. I feel llike this was Gordonsville's "any given day." Hat's off to them... they did what it took. However, the score is not always a good indicator. They have 4 above .300 hitters. They batted them 3,4 and 7,8. This is designed to give you a chance to score runs every inning and more if the defense gives you other base runners. The Bucs's gave them more. Gordonsville had 5 infield hits. 4 of them ended up scoring. One of the IH's was a shot to third that was stopped but no chance to throw the runner out. The rest were bunt's that were over ran by infielders or good pitches blooped into no mans land. So, they were as close to being strike outs as they were hits, but this day they were hits. In 6 innings (1-5 and 7) Gordonsville had 5 runs on 8 hits. (I know they all count) In the 6th inning they had 6 runs on 5 hits (3 IH's) a walk and 3 BBS errors. BBS played like it was graduation day and they got up early for that on offense too. Two runners that would have for sure scored were out at the plate on base running mistakes. Another was caught stealing on one that got away from the catche because he did not slide at second. BBS hit three line drives that were right to or just in reach of the fielder and all would have resulted in one or two runs if they were a foot further away. If you take away the runs given... Gordonsville has 8 runs (4 of the 8 are still infield hits). If BBS has the 2 that were out at the plate the game is tied. Then just one of the line drives has to move a foot. So, for Gordonsville to make noise... I see that they need help from the defense, several IH's and three solid shots from the other team to be right at their fielder. Having said all this... Go Gordonsville! I hope the go all the way!
  4. kind of liked his reasoning but your right one has nothing to do with the other With this logic... SD beat CB 41 to 0 BB beat CB 14 to 7 So SD should beat BB by 35... but wait... BB beats SD by 1 and could have been 7 and not finished in OT but for the botched field goal hail mary. Go Bucs!
  5. It has been a long week and I am a little tired… but the TD on the botched field goal was a Silverdale score… without which Boyd wins in regulation… right? So, I am missing how this score has anything to do with Boyd being fortunate in winning the game.
  6. Well that did not last long. TD MC... two point attempt failed BBS 15 MC 18 6:48 left 4th
  7. Bucs TD - get 2 point... now BBS 15 MC 12 10+ minutes left in game.
  8. Starting 4th still 12 to 7. Bucs deep in MC territory
  9. So R3 will pair with R4? I would favor BBS by 9 against Watertown and 15 against Clarkrange. However, Grace will be a double digit underdog against both. Watertown by 6 over Clarkrange.
  10. Yes.. but here is is where you should add Copper Basin's 7 wins to boyd for 48 and Oneida's 1 for Jellico for 48... or does the last week not count. I mean what's done is done... I just wanted to understand.
  11. I guess we don't get to see the final rankings... I would like to know where I messed up... There must be some BCS factors at play here. Looks like Q1 has the best teams... and FC has a cake walk to the semi. Five 9-1 teams in Q1
  12. I am not sure how the categories are weighted. But if you apply last night Boyd owns 6 ties Oneida in 5 and Oneida has 5. Boyd owns or ties the first 5 categories. Does that mean that I have applied the games wrong… likely… but Copper Basin was a much better win than Jellico… Looks to me like Boyd jumps them and gets a bye.
  13. Wow… I just watched the game replay… The second touchdown and last touchdown for SP were aided by the wing officials missing one of the oldest tricks in the book. Speaking as a former wing official you have to see the wide out holding the corner. Coaches know the wing official has responsibility for the ball carrier in the area and most will not catch this so the wide out locks up and then falls down or takes down the corner. You can see it if you know what to look for in real time, but slow it down and watch the take down. If you do it well it almost looks like the defender causes the fall. It also happens at least twice on the last touchdown. The first time the defender is trying to pull away and gets into the path of the runner and makes the tackle anyway. The next time is close to the goal line and you can see the defender trying to pull away but cannot. Again, if you know what you are looking for you can see it in real time, but slow it down and there is no doubt. I am not asking you to believe me… it is “on demandâ€â€¦ watch it yourself. Oh and if the official catches it… then the wide out will generally not do it the rest of the game. Or with speed like SP has… it may be... just take our chance if it is called back we just try again. If I was playing SP I would inform the officials before the game that this has been observed during game film and to please be aware of it in the game. Take those plays away and it might have ended 35 to 7 at the very least the last score came with a little over a minute left in the game and time could have run out if SP had been backed up twice on the drive.
  14. The paper prognosticators have SP picked 8 to 1. I guess BBS should just stay home, stay dry and start preparing for Maplewood… Oh wait… the game is decided on the field and not in the paper or on this board. Looking for it to be a great game... and go Bucs!
  15. Not sure who you are, but I was a member of the SETFOA for 14 years and I have worked several playoff games. The Saturday after, at the UTC game, several college and high school officials in the press box watched several versions of the play and all said it was the worst call that they had ever seen and was made by an official that was out of position. So… I will go with what I saw and their opinion. I did not make the post to restart an argument about the call because, if you know what you are talking about, it is on film… so there is no argument… you don’t get “bounce†yards. The past is the past... let's let that go... The point I was making is that Boyd was at least even if not the better team last year and… they seem to be better this year… or at least the offense has started off better than they did last year.
  16. Point of order... BBS beat FC last year in the game, but an official awarded a touchdown to a player who was down on the 2. I am pretty sure we will not have officials that sorry again this year.
  17. Not clear? I am not sure what you are looking at... If there was a picture on the goal line the official would not have known it because he was on the three.
  18. Pretty close? This guy is supposed to be trained and one of the best in the state. This is not even close for a real official... and no replay would be needed... any trained person who watches this on video, even from a bad angle, knows at full speed the first time they see it... and this guy had a good angle, even though he was out of position, to see the player hit the ground before bouncing and putting the ball across. You cannot paint this into a... well sometimes the refs make a mistake... it is just part of the game... not for this mistake... not at this level. Both teams deserved better than this.
  19. I am not "hatin" on anyone... just stating facts. The official was out of position and gave a signal for something that did not happen... This was not a poor judgment call. It was a rookie mistake of allowing the runner the yardage gained on a bounce. This should not happen in a play-off game... much less the third round. It came on the heels of another mistake by the officials that put FC on the 6 instead of around the 14. If FC goes on to win the gold ball… which I expect them to do… and good luck to them… this call not only hurts BBS tonight, but no true sportsman wants a win that they did not earn. If FC wins there will be some who will never look back… but I am sure there are some true sportsmen at FC and all their life the gold ball will have a little tarnish spot that they will not be able to polish away… because everyone in the state will know what happen. Again… this was not a hold or some other penalty that could have gone either way… this was black and white… no questions asked… he was down… game over 20 to 14 and the man in black and white bumbles to the goal line from the 3 and awards a touchdown.
  20. http://www.newschannel9.com/sections/sports/high-school-sports-events/ It is not whining if you are stating a fact. Video evidence is clear. Boyd-Buchanan wins and the official blows the call to give FC a touchdown and ultimately the game. You don’t get the forward progress of a bounce. I officiated for 13 years and this is the worst call in a third round play-off game as I have ever seen. These officials should never get another play-off game. The second worst call was right before that when the FC QB was being sacked at the 14 and threw the ball into the ground. It should have been intentional grounding… they spotted it as if it was a sack. FC called a time out and the officials then moved the ball back to the 6 and declared it as an incomplete pass. If this call had not been blown the QB on this play would have been down on the 8… FC has a great team… but tonight the win was awarded by the officials in error. Good luck to FC…
  21. Do/did you live within three miles of your school? not many do… When I was in high school I lived about 8 miles from my Public High School. We live 11.6 miles from Boyd-Buchanan we have to drive a mile or so away from Boyd’s direction getting out of the neighborhood. Geographically my high school was within a 6 mile radius of where I lived growing up and Boyd-Buchanan is within a 6 mile radius of my home. I am sure the person who lives the furthest away from Boyd is not much, if any, further away than the furthest for any of the county public schools. In your county you can still have God in your public school. If a parent wants a biblical based education for their child in Hamilton County it is not going to happen in a public school. This was a tired argument in 1A and after the highest multiplier in the country we thought the 2A folks would be less whiney… I guess not… it is clear you don’t want to be confused with the facts… so this is my last post on the subject.
  22. Boyd and TC both seemed to think all they had to do was show up and their opponent would just fold. Boyd was just lucky enough to have the lesser opponent this week. Boyd’s defense was crossed up a bit tonight by trick plays and pee-wee tactics. I expect FC to just play football which should help the defense. However, I am sure the defense will be more aware that teams will play no holds barred. I have to chuckle a little about how the TSSAA plan to eliminate FC and Boyd was to put them both in a quad with TC expecting TC to eliminate them. Three of the four #1 teams were taken out by a #4 or #5. Everyone knew when the brackets came out that those #1’s had no business being there and it is clear that FC and Boyd should have likely been #1 in those quads. That said there are eight teams still standing. Congrats to all eight. 1 #1 team that eked out a win against a #5. 3 #2 teams that barely eked out a win against a #3. 1 #3 team that blew away a #2. 2 #4 teams that knocked off a #1. 1 #5 team that knocked off a #1.
  23. I am so sick of the statement about Boyd recruiting… If they recruit the must have omniscient coaches because I can think of only two players who have started that have not been at Boyd since sometime in elementary school, middle school or as a freshman. #1 QB at least first grade #9 DB/WR at least second grade #15 LB/RB at least second grade #29 RB/Safety at least second grade #52 LB at least second grade #12 DE/TE at least second grade #10 LB/TE at least second grade #6 WR/DB at least third grade #24 RB at least sixth grade #17 DB/WR at least sixth grade #18 DB/WR at least seventh grade #55 OL/DL at least sixth grade #23 LB at least seventh grade #56 DL/OL at least seventh grade #70 OL at least ninth grade If I am not mistaken this is all the “skill†positions and over half of the linemen. Those coaches really can spot that talent early… To the players… I am sorry if I missed anyone or have you being at Boyd later then when you really started.
  24. I will post it again... maybe you will read it this time... Hmmm… just like many said… the ridiculous, highest multiplier in the country would just move the 1A whining to 2A. I guess it is so… However, this is not the place for that discussion. If you lived here… I suspect you would find a private school for your kids if you could find a way to pay for it… You are correct about Boyd being the whipping boy for most everyone they played in the past. However, the dynamics responsible their improvement has nothing to do with recruiting or scholarships. If you care to know the reason… read on… In July 1997, the Chattanooga City Schools and the Hamilton County School System merged into one. The two could hardly have been more different. Chattanooga City schools were highly urban and poor. Achievement and standards were low. Hamilton County schools were suburban and more economically diverse. Achievement was significantly higher than in the city schools. When this happen many things changed in the Hamilton County public schools. This sent many parents looking for an alternative. At this time choices that were in the price range for common families were; Boyd-Buchanan, Grace, Chattanooga Christian, Temple, Brainerd Baptist and Notre Dame. Boyd-Buchanan and ND were the only schools that had football teams at the time. (most of the above comes from a pdf about Hamilton Co schools located at www.annenberginstitute.org) This is when Boyd-Buchanan began to have very good football teams… if you really wanted to know… So… can we now just talk football?
