    12-AA

All 11AA girls get swept & Fairview boys squeak by for the only boys win in region play. This has to be the worst season for boys & girls basketball in 11AA. This used to be a pretty good district, but has turned into one of the worst in the state the past few years.
  2. I totally agree the district tournament will be competitive across the board with any team capable of getting on a run and winning the title. Unfortunately though it is because all the teams are mediocre at best. This district is as low in talented teams as it has been in a very long time and the girls teams are even worse. What has happened to basketball in this district?
  3. I've seen Creek Wood play a few times and they looked good the times I've seen them. I've got a question about the post season. It seems like a terrible set up. Let's suppose Creek Wood & Camden are the two best teams in the district & finish 1st & 2nd in North division then one of them is going to be left out a chance for region. If you knew you weren't finishing 1st you would be better off finishing 3rd to be able to play in the other side. Just seems if one division has the best two teams in it then you are screwing one of them and therefore your best two teams aren't going to come out of the district. Why wouldn't they have the (1N & 4S) (2S & 3N) play in one bracket and (1S & 4N) (2N & 3S) play in the other bracket to eliminate this problem. I just can't believe they would approve the format listed in the post above. The North side seems to be stacked compared to the South side.
  4. Drove down with a friend to watch this game instead of the Cheatham/Harpeth game and so glad we did. Great atmosphere other than it being about 90 degrees in the gym. The consolation game b/t Camden and Lewis was fantastic, but only set the stage for the championship. Waverly jumps out early, but CW storms back, Waverly jumps out again in 2nd half, but CW storms back again. The game could have gone either way. I didn't realize both teams were that young either. Such a game of runs and momentum shifts. The lefty post player for Waverly was just dominating and CW had no answer for him. I've seen enough of Jon Smith and Tyler Dell to know those two can flat out play. When CW made their run in the first half and Waverly was reeling big time I thought the fans beside us were going to have strokes. Dell was the catalyst for Waverly in the 1st half, he scored at will or set up teammates. The kid seems to never get fazed. Later in the game, Smith came alive and scored some big baskets. Seems he can score with ease at times. I think Waverly went like 8-8 from the line to seal it with #10 hitting 4 big free throws. Hate if for Creek Wood because they played their guts out. They have some really good players as well (Edmondson, Plunkett & #1 off the bench). Unfortunately, they will have to play CPA. If Waverly can advance to region finals then most likely they could come to Cheatham County for a sectional game. I would love to see that game. I would probably give Cheatham the edge, but you never know. Where is the region tournament at?
  5. I went with a friend to watch the Creek Wood/Waverly 11AA championship game, but watched the 9AA championship when I returned home. What a game it was as both teams really played hard and got after it. I agree ksgovols, a typical Harpeth/Cheatham/Sycamore game. Saunders & Harlen were spectacular for Cheatham while Clayton was for Harpeth. I believe Cheatham helped pave their way to the sectionals by staying opposite of East, but I can still see Harpeth possibly pulling an upset if things fall into place. As for sectional opponents, everyone knows CPA is the one to stay away from so you better win the region. Looks like Waverly has the inside track to be the other team to advance by beating Creek Wood last night and staying opposite of CPA. They would still have to beat a very good Cascade team. Hopefully for Cheatham, they can win region and get to host possibly Waverly. After seeing Waverly again last night, it would be a good game, but one I think Cheatham would be favored in. Like Cheatham, Waverly has 3 very good players; lefty post player, Smith and Dell. Still holding out hope that the Indians can pull the upset and be there as well though.
  6. I'm also a Harpeth fan, but still follow this district since we were in it and am familiar with several kids playing. Looks like someone from this district could possibly match up with Cheatham in the sectionals since I don't see anyone beating CPA. I've seen Creek Wood play several times this year and they are capable of scoring a lot of points and have good coaching. I would say they are a clear second place team in this district. I have also seen Waverly play a few times this year and they seem like the clear team to beat in this district. They have a left handed post player that is pretty tough and the Smith kid seems to be able to score whenever he wants when he is on. Both teams can definitely score, but to me the main difference in these teams from the times I've seen them play is at the point guard position. Creek Wood really doesn't have a true point while Waverly's Dell is one of the best point guards I've seen. I know he was the difference when they beat Harpeth earlier. If they do match up with Cheatham I would probably give a very slight edge to Cheatham, but I do think it would be a great game. Who is hosting their district tournament this year?
  7. I agree with Cheatham running through the tournament. Maybe if Harpeth gets hot they can give them a game, but I sort of doubt it. Waverly should run through their district, but at best will finish 2nd in region (CPA) so a Cheatham matchup could happen and would be a great game. I have seen them both this year and it would be a good game as both teams are about even. I think Waverly split with East Lit if Coach T scores are correct. Will someone post district tournament schedule when it is complete.
  8. I've not gotten to see the Harpeth team play as much as I normally do, but in the 6 to 7 games I've seen them play they have played hard and are very competitive. Do they have a good chance to hold onto the #2 seed coming out of the tournament? They are very capable of beating anyone on any given night with the shooters they have. Hoping they can get on a run during tournament time.
  9. Agree, need to celebrate anything we can in this day and time. It's just amazing how things can turn south if you aren't careful.
  10. In regard to Montgomery Central I agree it seems as if they have athletes, but then again if you look at their basketball and football programs the past 10 years & they have both been pathetic. This will be the 10th losing season out of the past 11 for football while basketball has had 9 losing seasons in a row. It's not just losing seasons, but usually not even close to the .500 mark. They play Waverly this Friday and Waverly is in the same boat. After this year Waverly will have had losing football seasons in 10 of the past 11 years. That's two pretty bad football programs, but at least one of them will get a win this Friday. Maybe both schools can get their programs turned around in the future.
  11. Good to see some excitement on the 11AA board. About time our district is regaining some strength in boys basketball. I would have to agree it's probably a two team race between Cheatham County and Waverly, I see Cheatham and Waverly on the top level with Harpeth slightly below them. After Harpeth is another drop with Creek Wood and Camden. Then,of course dropping off the cliff to where you will find Montgomery Central and Stewart County. The key may be if whether Cheatham or Waverly have a slip up game and lose to someone other than each other. Have to agree with an earlier post that until Waverly beats a good or even decent team I have to reserve judgement. I have to think everyone talking about these two teams might just be the motivation that Harpeth needs to sneak up on one of them though.
  12. I agree, you better not count Harpeth out of the mix. I've been impressed with what I have seen so far from them. I do think Cheatham is the hands on favorite and will be tough to beat. Creek Wood should be in the mix as well and seems to be sort of the forgotten team. They have some of the best young talent around. Waverly may have the most overall talent, but has a new coach. Don't really see the other teams challenging these four. Maybe Camden, but doubt it. Montgomery Central is the same old Central and Stewart County will be as bad as always. Should be a good year though and ready for it to begin.
  13. These rankings really show how terrible this district is. Harpeth, Stewart County & Waverly are all in the bottom 10 of teams in class 3A in the state, while Creek Wood and Montgomery Central are both in the bottom 5 of teams in class 4A in the state. It does make me wonder how good Cheatham "really is". Don't get me wrong, I know they have a good team, and a good opening season win against Fairview, but it will be interesting to see if they are really a contender or if maybe they are getting some false confidence by beating up on some terrible teams in District 11. Just a thought.
  14. Big win for the Indians at Stewart County. I agree that it used to be a tough place to play, but in the past few years there teams have really been bad. The Indians are finally playing with more consistency. I really see this being a three team race between Harpeth, Waverly and Cheatham. Camden and Creek Wood will probably battle it out for the 4th seed with Montgomery Central and Stewart County bringing up the rear.
