  1. I agree that all those guys were tough.
  2. I asked this question on another thread but it never got answered. Did Asberry, Crouch, and Thompkins play college ball? Do you know what they are doing now? I agree about thier defensive ability. They were quick and athletic and all over the floor. I am not sure I agree about them getting technical's. I cannot remember any players on that team getting technicals but I could be wrong.
  3. Heresyoursign.....I don't think stating that "Parris" is the backbone of the PC program is crazy. What you said about him teaching the kids to play hard is true but to say he doesn't teach the kids to play smart is just simply wrong. I am not one to come on this website and get in an argument with someone but I have to ask you what are you thinking? Anyone that has been to one practice that James Parris runs knows that he focuses on the fundamentals. Did you play for him? Did your kids play for him? Where did you come up with this expert analysis that he teaches bad habits? I would like you to give me one an example of a bad habit that he has ever passed on to his teams. As far as your bad attitudes statement I'm not going to even touch it. I think it is universally understood that when you are dealing with teenagers you??™re going to run into a bad attitude. At least that has been my experience in the world that I live in.....not sure about the world you live in! I would bet that if you asked any high school coach that coached players after James Parris got done with them any one of them would say they were thankful that he coached them. He taught the fundamentals, teamwork, work ethic etc. All the things you need to have a good basketball squad. I am not trying to bash you.....I just want to understand how you come with the idea that he doesn't teach the fundamentals and teaches bad habits. Another thing that struck me about your post. You said, "Please stay off the boards giving you NEGATIVE opinions about players....I am sure you were not very good sometimes either." You may need to think about practicing what you preach.
  4. Whatever! I am not going to play the name calling game that you seem to be so fond of. I never said chip buck was a head coach I stated that he was an assistant coach....bobcat89 did and they simply misspoke. I don't know where you got that I'm from livingston....I was born and raised in byrdstown and I played on the same team with the Asberry's, Tompkins, and Aaron and Steve never coached me at the junior high level. If he coached you thats great if you think that Steve is a good coach then I'm happy for you but you don't know what your talking about when it comes to quality coaches. The game has passed Coach Parris by? Your joking right? This just gives me more proof that you don't know what your talking about. As far as needing more plays at the junior high level....I disagree. I would rather have one offensive set that you can run many variations off of that my team knows really well than have a bunch of plays that my team can't run properly. If you believe that junior high teams need a bunch of different offensive plays then I can't find fault in that but I disagree with it. That doesn't mean i'm an idiot! Just like someone else said on here the James C. Haile tournament was a state invitational tournament. There are like four or five across the state. There are teams that play in that tournament that are not good at all......they pay their money and they play its that simple. They did not go thru district, region, and state qualifers so it is not a true state tournament.
  5. It's funny that you say you played for James Parris and then say in the same sentence that he didn't teach offense. You must not have played very much. He made us run flex until we had nightmares about it. He introduced every team he had to the first set offense they had ever been a part of. He also introduced those teams to the run and gun style that Pickett County is famous for. Steve Asberry never coached the boys that I am aware of in junior high, Coach Zachary did. I agree that the coaches mentioned were good coaches. However, I do not think they would have been as successful as they were if Coach Parris had not been doing the dirty work at the elementary level teaching the basics.... and yes that means OFFENSE, defense, teamwork, conditioning etc. Chip Buck was an assistant coach but has never been the head coach.
  6. When I was reading your post I couldn't help but wonder what happened to these guys you were talking about. Did any go to college and play ball? What are they doing now? I heard Mason was a manager for the University of Kentucky but I have not heard anything about the Asberry's or Tompkins what are they doing now? They all played on the same team if I remember right. I think they only lost one game in 2000 or 2001 in the regular season to Sparta in the Livingston Christmas Tournament in triple overtime if I remember right. That was a fun team to watch....they were all fast and unselfish.
  7. Ridgeway, I refuse to agree to disagree because you are simply wrong......you have no desire to become a ref but you for some reason have the desire to question the character of the people that are willing to do the job. People that you do not personally know. In my opinion that speaks about your character. Like I said before, if you are not willing to do the job yourself you have no right to criticize those who are. And you still never answered my question......You said you have no desire to become a ref. Why? Because you can't take the criticism of being unfair and biased from someone like yourself?
  8. Ridgeway, I simply have one question.......If you know so much about the game and how to teach kids to prosper why aren't YOU OUT THERE BLOWING THE WHISTLE AS A REF! Could it be that you are not willing to put your money where your mouth is and practice what you preach? Or could it be that you are afraid that your ego could not take insults from someone who disagreed with your calls. You people that are constantly complaining about the refs kill me! I don't think anyone that is not willing to walk to a mile in another man's shoes have any right to criticize the people who are willing to take that responsiblity with all the good and bad that comes along with it. So in summary my question is (i'm willing to bet that you can't come up a legitimate answer ) .....WHY DON'T YOU BECOME A REF?
  9. "You must be one of those "cheating" referees. Thanks for teaching the kids whom you cheat a lesson - that no weapon formed against them shall prosper - and that includes you." That is absolutely the dumbest statement I've ever heard......HEY I HAVE AN IDEA! Why don't you become a referee and teach these kids how to PROSPER!......LOL ( I BET I KNOW YOUR ANSWER...) NOT ENOUGH GUTS?
  10. lol........your telling me that you want me to believe a single player went up for a block and somehow knocked down three opposing players.....come on man lets be realistic!
  11. Let me get this straight......Capps went up for a block and took out three of your players! Thats pretty amazing!
  12. Fans are not getting paid but they are setting the example by which the players will follow....... the older players are setting the example by which the younger players will follow....... therefore they must be professional.
  13. Not all fans and players are very professional either
  14. The bobcats don't have two titles in the last ten years....... they won it in 95 and 90..... thats 15 years not 10.
