  1. i'm not sure which division you're referring to, but i can assure you that mba would play the game as long as they were given notice pretty soon. since their season is over, they're gonna be packing everything up and moving on to another sport in the next week, so this thing would really have to start moving.
  2. i think the original idea of a wait list is just a list to get an application to the school. the second form of the wait list occurs kind of like in college. the student is wait listed if his grades are just below the cut off, and if someone with higher scores that was accepted turns down his acceptance, then the wait list student is allowed in. in a sense, it is a denial and then a reacceptance. that's just how i understood it though, i could be wrong.
  3. i think it's a wonderful idea, i'd love to see it happen. i don't think it ever will though. the tssaa won't sanction it, and it cuts further into basketball season than some players might want to go. it would be great though, especilaly if there is a total split.
  4. i don't know about the 60's, but i know that in the 90's, when you say pearl cohn was dominating, mba beat them twice. once in 97 (pc was the eventual state champ with santonio beard and john henderson) and again in 98 (pc was 11-2 losing only to mba and eventual champ whites creek. also santonio's senior year. as for the playoffs, mba made week 13 in 95 and week 14 in 96, losing to ba both times, and ba went on to the clinic bowl each time.
  5. i think the tennessean does an ok job as far as DII compared to DI, but i wish they would cover high school sports in general a little more. sorry, i don't know the publisher is cause i don't have the book with me. hey other redtwin, maybe we should check with each other before answer post.

  7. I really am not sure of which stores carry the book but i would be willing to bet that any book store could order it for you. "Hit The Red Gate Running" by Paul Clements. Its an account of the MBA program under Coach Tommy Owen. If you support MBA or enjoy Nashville history, its a great read.
  8. Brandon, i wouldn't be surprised if mba beat those teams, but i'm just not sure if the have the line for it. they are obviously capable of beating high caliber teams because the ba team they beat was very talented. i haven't seen any of those teams play this year, so my information is based only on what i read in the tennessean and on this board. i'm not sure where to get "hit the red gate running" it covers coach owen's career and has some very interesting information on some of the older teams. some good pictures too. the author is named paul clements, who actually coached lots of the mba players from 93-00 when they played in the southwest nashville football league in 5th and 6th grade. i bet davis kidd could probably dig up a copy.
  9. scrappy, you have no idea what you're talking about. mba has been winning consistently from the mid 80's to the present. i don't have my main source of info (Hit the Red Gate Running by Paul Clements), but i do know that from 93-96 mba was 38-12, they sure didn't win much did they? they beat gallatin in 95 and 96, and ryan in 94. i don't have anything on overton or anything earlier than that cause i don't have my book, but i think i remember mba beating overton a couple times around the turn of 89-90. Hillsboro is probably better than mba this year, but i think they'd take overton. i'd say, maryville, hillsboro, melrose, riverdale, and germantown would probably beat the big red this year. but i'd say mba was the best bar none in 99 and 00. as far as no tradition, you are absolutely incorrect. mba has been playing for over 100 years, and they have 11 championships over that time. read the book i mentioned earlier so you don't sound so uninformed next time.
  10. I think, in a sense, that coach rutledge did set the record straight by beating ba. he showed that coach moore was just as successful and capable as coach flatt. in fact, i think he was more successful because, for the most part, this year's ba team had better athletes than what tom had to work with. i don't know if that's what cole meant, but that's my impression.
  11. on the broadcast on the internet, they said there were 10000 people there i think (2000 and 10000 can sound similar on a fuzzy internet broadcast), i obviously don't know because i'm not in the state right now. the attendance has nothing to do with the quality of teams that are playing. first of all, the schools playing last night are not very large schools, second a lot of people who graduate from those schools tend to go out of state for college and jobs as compared to a more localized dispersion from DI graduates, thirdly, ba was a heavy favorite which probably discouraged some people from going, and it was cold. i know espn came to the first game they played this year, so apparently someone thinks they're worth watching. 12. bigreid and scrappy ya'll are the ones that need to get real. the inferior 7? have you seen their record against teams not in their division? they dominate everyone else. they didn't ask to be in a small division, they were put there, and no one wants to join them because it's the toughest division in the state. yeah, they had four early losses, but they started a lot of juniors at skill positions, all new linemen, and on top of that, they had a new coach. they were a very good team once everything came together, similar to the maryville team that lost 4 early and won state. like i said earlier, they are one of the best in the state right now, and the winner of DII AAA is usually one of the best 2 teams in the state, so i hope that is real enough for you
  13. mba didn't play goodpasture. they lost to bga, mus, ba, and baylor. those games were all earlier in the year, and it was the first time coach rutledge had ever played those teams. i think it just took him a few games this year to get to know his personel and his opponenets. by the end of the year, he had a five game win streak, and he beat every team that he lost to (except bga because they didn't play again. i think mba would have beaten them soundly if they did play though). at first glance, one would argue that a 9-4 team could not be oone of the best in the state, but once they got their stuff together, which was obvious by the way they played last night, i'd put them up against almost anyone.
  14. i'm so glad mba won. mainly for tom moore and edd caudill and jamie redmond. all great coaches and great men. mba will be a force next year and for years to come. (they get lots of skill guys back next year).keep making us proud big red, you did a great job tonight. keep up the good work coach rutledge. [Edited by Redtwin on 11-23-02 11:43A]
  15. mba now leading 28-3 with 2 minutes in the 3rd
  16. final score: mba 27 ba 11. congratulations to the big red. ya'll surprised everyone tonight by playing your hearts out, and you deserve your golden trophy. 4 championships in 5 years sure isn't bad. the best part is that next we get a lot of people back. again, congratulations. 17. it's now 21-3 with 4 minutes left in the third quarter. i hope mba wins so coach moore can tell flatt and ba where to stick that silver ball.
  18. mba is now leading 21-3 in the 3rd quarter with 6 minutes left.
  19. mba is winning 14-3 at halftime. could be '98 all over again.
  20. I'm not sure, but i think you mean the 99 team if you are referring to ingle's junior year when we were as high as 7 in the nation in some polls. if you're not, i think they were better than the 98 team that upset ba. here's some info off that team i posted in another thread. These are all the players of the 99 team that play a sport in college DI. Football: Barton Simmons, Tate Rich, Jonas Rodriguez @ Yale. James Pittman @ Rice. CLark Lea, Moses, And Dominique @ Vandy. Ingle @ Florida. Hulsey Smith @ SMU. Andrew Wilson @ Princeton. Baseball: Nathan Sensing @ UGA. Justi Elliot @ Vandy. Track: Mark McDonald @ UVA. Will Denbo @ USC or UCLA (can't remember which). Lacrosse: Leighton Liles and William Liles @ University of Delaware. Mathew Mcintosh @ UNC. Guys playing DIII football: Zach wall @ w and L, matt neal @ sewanee, bill frazier @ centre. As you can see that team was loaded with athletes. they were exceptionally fast, which was their stongest point. dominique, ingle, mark mcdonald, moses, and vann webb were exceptionally fast(Mark and Van were on the state championship 4x100 team), and even the o line had good speed because we zone blocked most of the time. we were also very strong and had several guys who benched over 300 too. (also including myself ) [Edited by Redtwin on 11-22-02 1:42P]

    BA or MBA

i think the big red are playing pretty well, but i just don't know if they can hang for four quarters. ba 27 mba 17.
  22. These are all the players of the 99 team that play a sport in college DI. Football: Barton Simmons, Tate Rich, Jonas Rodriguez @ Yale. James Pittman @ Rice. Guys playing DIII football: Zach wall @ w and L, matt neal @ sewanee, bill frazier @ centre. As you can see that team was loaded with athletes. some others from mba to play football in college. David Mcintosh @ UNC. David Farrel @ Yale. Todd Prevost @ Furman. Witt Smith Baylor. (They all graduated in 97 and 98)
  23. The greatest asset the 99 MBA team had was speed. Dominique Morris and Moses Osemwegie could fly...as the both started as frosh at Vandy. The biggest factor, besides Ingle Martin and Barton Simmons, was the speed of both lines. These guys were not huge, probably averaging around 230-240, but they had great quickness for linemen
  24. I think the big red have improved a lot. ba 27 mba 17
  25. I don't see anywhere in my post where i said that east tennessee was sorry, but if you're gonna claim to be the best in the state bar none, you've gotta get out of your little portion of it and play somebody good to prove it. I think Melrose or Hillsboro will give you a run for your money, and in case you didn't notice, cleveland beat Knox Central worse than ya'll did, so i wouldn't get ahead of myself. Like i said in my first post, maryville is obviously a good team, but i do think that there are a few teams that could beat them.
