  1. Final Score : 49-31 Mustangs Stats on the game for the Mustangs: Mallernee - 12 points (3/3 behind the arc) Pharr - 11 points, 3 rebounds Solomon - 10 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists Brock - 8 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks Mayes - 5 points, 11 rebounds, 1 block James - 2 points Wilson - 1 points The Mustangs made 18/27 free throws (most early in the 4th and late in the 4th). Just goes to show that Lipscomb can win even if Mayes and Brock don't score in double digits ... The Mustangs pretty much dominated from late in the 3rd and on. It also helps when you only turn the ball over 7 times ... looks like the guards are doing a lot better. GO MUSTANGS.
  2. At least he is not passing down the "weenie gene"
  3. Lipscomb hosts Ravenwood tonight. This should be a great game ... last year, Ravenwood came out and beat DL twice. I don't know who to pick, but the way DL has been playing the past 2 games, I'm going to go with them. Plus, it is at DL and hopefully the crowd will be more of a factor than it has been their past few home games. What does everyone else think?
  4. Ok, it was obvious that SC was not totally on against DL from behind the arc. They shot a lot of 3's and did make some, but they missed too many. If SC is on, which it scares to think of what the game would be like if SC comes out and is on, then they will hang with Greenbrier without a doubt. The only trouble SC will have is Greenbrier's big man/men(?). I know they got that Brant guy who has dunked several times. SC has got to rebound with Greenbrier (something they didn't do too well with DL late in the game) and continue doing what they do best - applying pressure and running the floor on offense.
  5. How has East Lit been this year? I heard they got a 6'6" guy who isn't too bad (could be wrong about him though)? Also, do they actually have a crowd for home games ... or does the student body still decide not to show up?

I am going to have to disagree with what you said that I put in bold. I by no means am an enormous fan of Doc's coaching style, but I believe he did the smart thing. I believe he wanted to win the easiest way, and not risk trying too much to score. So, he pulled his offense out of there and waited for Livingston to come out and play basketball. Sure, they would have beat them even if they played zone or man, but I'm sure Doc knew that he could score so much easier against a man defense because of MLKs quickness. Doc is very different yes, but he coaches to win and it seems to me that he will do whatever it takes to get his team to win ... whether it's calling timeouts seconds into the game and having story time with his players, or chewing on that huge wooden stick of his ...
  7. It was obvious by the game that the DL coaches had really worked with the guards handling pressure. SC pressured them all night, especially hard late in the game. Lipscomb did have turnovers, but with the pressure SC was giving them they handled it great. Great call by P in OT to get a lead and then just run offense. SC got tired after a few minutes of it and began getting anxious. The SC fans need to learn exactly what a charge is. The majority of the times the SC players tried to take charges, they were only falling. One of DLs big men would spin or get the ball and turn .. and down goes the SC player. Some of the ignorant SC fans of course didn't like that because they thought it was a charge. SC maybe took 1 ACTUAL charge all night and had plenty of times where they just flopped. DL on the other hand, let the offensive player make contact with them and then they would go to the ground. That is why you saw the refs calling charges against SC rather than the other way around ... but of course we will have a SC fan get on here and say that I'm only saying this because I'm a biased DL fan .. but I know what a charge is and is not, and falling backwards w/out an contact whatsover is definitely not a charge.
  8. Mustangs: Mayes - 17 points, 7 rebounds Pharr - 17 points Brock - 13 points , 7 rebounds Mallernee - 6 points James - 6 points Solomon - 5 points Station Camp did come out ice cold in the 3rd ... the Mustangs went on a 16-0 run to start it off, and outscored them 20-6 in the 3rd. All the Mustangs who shot free throws towards the end hit nearly every one. Solomon also came down and hit 2 clutch jumpers to keep the Mustangs ahead by 4 or so points ... With 10.8 seconds to go in the 4th, the Mustangs are up 54-52 and Mallernee goes to the line to shoot 2 free throws. He hits the first and misses the second. Mustangs are up 55-52. Station Camp gets the ball and brings it down and Manning hits a 3 with about 2 seconds to go. Nevertheless, the Mustangs didn't back down in OT, and it also helped that Station Camp forgot how to block out on free throws ...
  9. Exactly ... the only thing I think that could possibly keep Portland in the game is their crowd. However ... maybe we'll see if their fans were actually true fans and not just there to see Brewer play. How have their home games been so far, or have they had any yet?
  10. Speaking of meaningless posts ... Yea this game comes down to whether or not DLs guards can get it inside and get the ball to Mayes and Brock. The turnovers have to got go down as well , they did better against Livingston (14 TOs I believe) but that number has to go down more. Station Camp is too quick for DL to turn the ball over.
  11. I guess I should go ahead and eat my words. Livingston supposedly shot lights out ... can I say that for sure? I hear they made about 70% from behind the arc? Pretty good if you ask me ... Mayes had 16 points, Pharr had 15, anddd Brock had 13 for Lipscomb. Those stats aren't 100% sure , check the paper tomorrow.
  12. I don't know too much about Livingston, but I think DL will take this one. The District 8-AA teams have been a bit stronger than the 7-AA (Livingston is 7-AA, correct me if I'm wrong) the past few years and I don't see that changing this year. I don't know if Livingston has the people down low to guard Lipscomb's two big guys - Mayes and Brock. However, if Lipscomb struggles with turnovers as they did last game against Clarksville, Livingston will have a very good chance of winning this one.
  13. Clarksville won this one 63-55. Clarksville was leading pretty much the entire game, or they were exchanging baskets for the lead. In the 4th quarter, Clarksville got up by 12 or so and Lipscomb came back within 2 points. They then had to begin fouling and Clarksville made the bulk of their free throws late in the game. Turnovers killed Lipscomb which pretty much decided the game.
  14. How tall is Harp and did he get varsity minutes last year or was he strictly JV?
  15. And you know that DL is ALWAYS well coached ... have been ever since I can remember. They aren't blessed with these amazing athletes, but the coaches always know how to get them to play and beat those kind of teams.
  16. I will be extremely surprised if Station Camp doesn't win by 25 or more ... Macon County lost Nathan Harris , who for the past 2 or 3 years has been their leading scorer/pretty much only source of offense ... correct me if I'm wrong. However, do they have any young players that can play? Their JV team last year did not have anyone that I can remember ... looks like another long and unproductive season for Macon Co.
  17. DL hosts Clarksville Tuesday night around 8:00 or so. Last year, Clarksville beat DL the first time they played, then DL put up an extremely good defensive game and beat Clarksville in Lipscomb's Invitational Tourney ... has Clarksville lost any of their key players from last year? I haven't heard much about them ...

I would love to ... MLK and DL both have good teams this year. Hume Fogg has Hobson. Period. Portland lost Brewer ... they are done. East Lit always starts off pretty good and then fades away by the end of the year ... discipline? Station Camp will run you to death and is always has the chance of beating any of the teams in the district. Macon County ... wellllll we don't need to worry about them. Greenbrier is returning most if not all (?) their starters so they will be up there with MLK and DL. I think it will come down to MLK and DL unless Greenbrier proves me wrong. DL has 2 strong forces down low and it will be hard for teams to guard both of them. MLK has Lee and other good players ... plus Doc is a good coach even though a bit eccentric at times ...
  19. I believe that the majority of the "DL fans" were in fact kids that had already graduated last year (they thought it'd be funny I guess) ... so don't think there was a ton of high school kids coming on here and talking smack about how DL was going to beat Alcoa. Anyway, I hope there hasn't been anyone posting about how DL overlooked Alcoa and wasn't prepared for them, because I don't think anyone could "overlook" Dustin Lindsay. DL knew the kid was ridiculous, they just couldn't stop him. And wow, Austin Rogers not playing a down at UT? You saw him play 1 game and you think he's not good enough. He's fast as lightning and he can only get bigger once he goes to UT. He is not built physically to be a running back, but DL had to put him there because teams know that he will KILL them on the deep ball so they are going to cover him with 2 or maybe even 3 guys. For most of the year, he did an excellent job at running back, Alcoa just found a way to shut down the sweeps. Congrats ...
  20. Is everyone forgetting Jamie Wilkerson - the RB for Lipscomb? Where is he on the list? Eh?
  21. I don't think anyone should pick either team (DL or Alcoa) to win big. On saying that ... everyone though Lipscomb and Goodpasture would be a "close" game ... eh? Has anyone said anything (maybe one or two) about the fact that the game is AT LIPSCOMB and not at Alcoa ... eh?
  22. Lipscomb plays Centenniel on Sat. around 7:30 or 8:00. Lipscomb is coming off a tough loss to Beech in which they played pretty bad and shouldn't have lost that game. Don't worry though, the Mustangs will be back Sat. night and look for the Beech-Lipscomb Homecoming game in the winter to be a LOT different.
  23. Ok, you could go back over 5 years ago ... yea ... and the Huntingdon thing, do you not think they learned from that? DL will never overlook another team for a long time.
  24. Do you not think that DL's coaching staff will take notice of everything about Alcoa? Obviously no one has figured out that DL is good and not just some chump team who plays awful teams all year.
  25. Lipscomb came out and killed Goodpasture. 35-7 was the final. Goodpasture didn't score until the middle of the 4th quarter. Now you could say that DL is overrated. You could say they play no one. You could say all that. But you'd be wrong. O yea, Rogers had 2 HUGE TD runs, Burton Elrod had a huge run, Wilkerson had 2 TD runs as well ... correct me if I'm wrong someone. Goodpasture's offense was shut down by DL all night ... even PT was.
