  1. Baylor wins 29-21. Baylor led 29-6, but MBA cuts it to 29-21 and has the ball within the Baylor 20 at the end of the game but couldn't score. Same story for MBA - extremely porous rushing defense. One of the Baylor backs (Braswell I believe) had 300+ yards rushing; the team had 480 rushing yards roughly. The glory days of '99 and '00 are over for awhile for the Big Red! Congrats Baylor.
  2. For what it's worth, OSHSman, Brentwood Academy has been ranked in the final USA Today poll as many times (3) as Midland Lee, and MBA and Lincoln County have been ranked in the final USA Today poll as many times (2) as Cathedral Prep. I see where you are going, but Lee and CP are not as good as examples as CBW (at least historical ranking-wise). Also, both BA and MBA have been ranked in between 1994 (Riverdale) and 2000 (Red Bank). http://www.usatoday.com/sports/preps/footb...appearances.htm [Edited by rollredroll on 9-12-02 4:06P]
  3. He's in a prep school near Princeton, NJ. Not sure what the story was there. From the Nashville City Paper (Page Down a couple of times): http://www.nashvillecitypaper.com/index.cf...s&news_id=13085 [Edited by rollredroll on 9-11-02 3:08P]

  5. MBA's running defense is atrocious. Offensively, it seemed like Goodman (RB) didn't play until late in the game (is that correct, Big Red players?). Fisher also didn't seem to use TE Santi much. The "O" last night was stale somewhat, although Fisher had good numbers. I don't think the Big Red are that good this year, although if the offense is clicking, they may be able to outscore some of their opponents in a shootout. I am just baffled as to why the defense is so porous. Catholic probably isn't that bad, but I doubt they are going to compete well with a good team like BGA in their class.
  6. I saw bits and pieces of the game. The first Ezell TD was reminiscent of Florida @ UT two years ago when official Allama Matthews called the Florida reception in the end zone a TD (I think it was Jabar Gaffney who had it briefly then dropped it). The question on each catch was, did the receiver have possession long enough? In Ezell's case, I don't think it would have affected the outcome of tonight's game. They looked to be the better team. The Vols were hosed, though!
  7. MBA starts strong (14-0), fades in the middle (KC ties it at 14), and puts on a late TD drive to win 21-14. As with DB and BGA, MBA struggles with rushing defense. MBA also seemed to be very conservative offensively. I'm not sure what KC has this year, but MBA may be in trouble in Super 7 play if the defense doesn't step it up big time. Anyway, a win's a win.
  8. BGA wins 25-23. Wildcats rushing game decimating the Big Red defense was the key. BGA led 25-17 at the half. MBA cuts it to 25-23 and has game-winning 25-yard FG chance with about 10 seconds to go and misses it. Congrats, Wildcats. You deserved this one.
  9. Good article on Dwone Hicks in the Wednesday edition (8/28/02) of USA Today.
  10. Big Red players, hopefully you guys are up to the challenge this week and are going into this game with the right frame of mind. Specifically, I hope there is no letdown, after (1) a triple OT win at arguably one of the toughest places the Big Red has played in the past few years, and (2) memories of a 38-0 pasting of BGA last year at their place. I'm sure the BGA guys are ready to play this one, and they seem to have a good amount of talent returning. What is MBA doing to shore up its run defense after DB exploited some weaknesses last week? Despie giving up an uncomfortable amount of points (even excluding the overtime scores), I was really impressed with MBA last week, especially with not letting up after being down two TDs to what I think is still a good DB team. Hopefully that conditioning and new offensive wrinkles will continue to pay dividends this week. Good luck. Thoughts appreciated.

If it is dropped .......it is incomplete pass and not a fumble........thats why people like to run it. therefore it is a Pass sometimes called Utah Pass [Edited by iamoz on 8-27-02 11:48P] I would agree.
  12. I just reread OnlineLC's directions and his are correct, too. I thought he had the exit number messed up, but I forgot that there is another exit past the Bellevue exit which works, too. Either set of directions will be roughly the same amount of time.
  13. Exit 196 is Bellevue/Newsome Station. Turn right off of the exit ramp, and drive roughly three miles through Bellevue. Take a right on Old Hickory Blvd. You will see a McDonald's on the left and a Kroger just up on the right where the turn is. Go about 1 or 1.5 miles to a three way light (Highway 100) and turn left. Take your first right on Old Hickory Boulevard (this is a continuation of the other OHB) and drive about two miles and you will see CPA on the right. These are similar directions to OnlineLC's but amended slightly. The exit off of I40E is definitely 196 (the first exit from Jackson before 196 is 192, which is the Pegram exit), and the drive on the first leg of Old Hickory Boulevard is no more than two miles - probably closer to a mile.
  14. The Bruins could not beat CPA in Jackson last year, and my guess is that USJ is down from last year (although probably still the best in its region) due to some big graduation losses. My guess is that CPA is probably slightly better than they were last year, although it looks like they we be starting a young QB. I think USJ could win, but I think CPA is probably better. I'll say CPA 24-7.
  15. Nice try at what? By the way, "value" is not always measured in dollars and cents. [Edited by rollredroll on 8-26-02 12:51P]
  16. I put those people who get so worked up about one newspaper's football predictions - HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL, no less - that they feel compelled to dog those people who work in two professions which, despite their random shortcomings, as a whole add value to this world, in even a smaller boat that you, wizard, put your journalists and attorneys. Oh yeah - those readers' polls mean so much more than journalists' opinions. Case in point - look at the CoachT fan poll in DII-A. Some fans out there actually believe that a school which doesn't even have a football program (Lausanne) this year will actually finish ahead of a school (e.g., First Assembly) that actually does have a football program. Those readers know their stuff. Disclaimer: neither an attorney nor a journalist; neither a CPA fan nor an Ezell fan. Go ahead and make your snide comments, wizard - you've done it before; I'm sure you will do it again.
  17. I don't see anything in The Tennessean regarding radio coverage, although that doesn't necessarily mean there will not be. I would scan the AM dial if it's on the radio.

  19. 560AM WNSR - They will carry all MBA games this year. [Edited by rollredroll on 8-24-02 8:51A]
  20. 1-1 with Franklin County's win over Ryan. BA-BHS will be a big highlight on Saturday as far as Middle Tennessee private/public tilts are concerned.
  21. The Kingsport paper already has the story up on its website, less than two hours after the game ended. Some other members of the print media (not you, Dom; you set a good example, too, with your paper) across the state can learn a good example from Bill Lane and the folks at his paper by being timely. http://www.timesnews.net/index.cgi?CONTEXT...3661&category=7
  22. A quick summary: > MBA goes up 7-0 on a drive after a fumbled DB punt. > DB methodically drives on MBA a couple of times and goes up 14-7, then MBA ties it at 14. > DB scores just before the half to make it 21-14. > MBA fumbles early in the third at its own 2; DB punches it in to make it 28-14. > MBA then scores 17 unanswered points in the third and fourth to go up 31-28. > DB kicks a late FG to tie it at 31 and sends it to OT. > 1OT: DB scores TD first, MBA answers. > 2OT: MBA scores TD first, DB answers. > 3OT: DB held to a couple of yards, kicks FG. MBA pushes it to the one and scores on QB keeper on second down. Truly a classic. DB plays second half without star McMillan and suffers numerous cramps/injuries by what seemed like a dozen players. MBA, outmanned, outsized, and out-supported fan-wise, stinks it up and gets some sweet payback from last year. Both teams have work to do, but both should hang their heads high for entertaining the spectators and those of us who listened agonizingly on the radio. [Edited by rollredroll on 8-23-02 11:52P]
